The ascension feature tries to add more depth to the game, however, after the 8th ascension there isn't really any motivation to keep going as Incremental Infinity lacks many typical aspects to keep the player engaged.
As barely any player activity is required due to a lack of minigames and overall features, it becomes very repetitive and bland fairly quickly.

Unfortunately, this game just isn't very interesting. After 18h, I had 100% achievements. I had unlocked ALL unlocks after abour 10h. Very short for a pure idle game.
As an Idlegame, there is no gameplay, the game runs (except for one upgrade) on its own. While it's doing it's thing, it's not particularily interesting to look at, mostly you are waiting on it to farm skillpoints or diamonds.
The gameplay must be the choices on the skill tree, but apart from choosing which basic mechanics you want to be even able to get, there is very little variance in the skill tree. You cannot navigate to multi-shot-side or something like that, each little blob of skills is 100% random. This defeats long term planning.
The update that adds some rarer nodes helps a bit, but it pretty much just gives a bit more stats.
The skills you can get on the skill tree basically affect one of the mechanics. Firespeed, base damage, knockback, and then each mechanic has ONE variance of upgrade you get for it. Multishot gets +20% chance of multishotting, turrets have +1 turret, and so on.
Each of the added mechanics aren't very deep. Balancing wise, some feel mandatory, and some feel absolutely useless. Bounce regularily misses the bounced target and is 100% useless against single bosses. Shield ALWAYS completely resets all enemies encrouching to the furthest point. This is mandatory. I found most success with ignoring most mechanics, just picking things that DIRECTLY multiply my damage (multishot, critchance, crit dmg). Thats fairly boring balance.
I 100%ed the game without killing the boss for wave 220, which has a few billion HP. Far from infinite.

When you come at this game new, at first it seems like a wave levelling game (and it is), but then when you have all of the Ascension tree you then realise there is another type of Ascension levelling required if you want to progress which like everything else gets harder and harder to achieve. Now you need to create resource strategies for your Skill Points and Diamonds.
I like games that make you think and Incremental Infinity scratches that itch. I also like that there are times when you can stretch your legs and have a break while the game is still playing as you try to recoup those much needed resources (of which later you really, really need).
This game like many others also brings moments of frustration (e.g. Wave 216, then later 266), but then you'll reach a point where you fly past those waves without even noticing.
The YouTube playthroughs don't really do the game much justice as the core gameplay comes after the Ascension Tree which the videos do not cover. I've seen YouTubers avoiding certain sector upgrade types, like explosions or mines.
So top tip - nothing is off the table. Everything is useful, especially when you learn which items really go well with other items.

Do you like strategy-focused idler games that fully play themselves, where you only have to check in occasionally and click a few things to make number go up again and then check back out? This game is for you!
This game boasts an infinite skill tree, and the way they keep that from getting out of hand is with two currency types, one gained linearly and one gained logrithimically. The skill tree expands from a combination of both types, so at some point, progress grinds to a halt for hours, nudging you to do a prestige and reset everything back to 1, with persistent upgrades to make progress go faster. With time, I'm sure some dedicated players will push the skill tree to the limits of their CPUs and we'll surely see some mind-boggling screenshots to prove it!
There is an optional mechanic of 'quests' which pop up in the bottom left, and you can simply minimize and ignore them. You get 3 options and can only complete one, then the list refreshes. The quests can guide you to min-max one stat specifically for a while, so you get to really see the impact it has on the gameplay. i came to really appreciate multi-shot from that!

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tIt was a lot of fun at the start, I had it running in the corner of my laptop, but you very quickly figure out which weapons/upgrades are worth it and which ones aren't, and it just becomes the exact same maze of selectively choosing upgrades, planning out your Expansion gems, Ascending with extremely minor changes to actual gameplay, and doing it again. It's not very Idle, since after a few Ascensions you basically need to spend an hour on upgrades, or you're just spinning your wheels. A lot of potential, currently lacks depth, but I'm always happy to see something new(ish) in the Incremental world.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This title I feel is for any of the 'tistic individuals. It definitely scratches a certain itch for me. My goal is to get all achievements :D
To the Dev(s): When a not yet purchased "Expand the Skill Tree" node(s) have both paths to them lit up on them aka it'd waste a diamond click them since it'd do nothing, I feel the 1 cost should change to costing zero OR get you a Skill Point from them, but only when all paths to the Expand unclicked node are lit up. It'd be a nice QoL thing.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
