\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI went into The Sorting Bureau expecting something a little closer to A Little to the Left. And to be fair, the beginning is really cute. Sorting things, clicking around, putting everything neatly where it belongs... very satisfying.

Unfortunately, at some point “cozy sorting” turned into “please move these 100 tiny objects into different boxes”, and that’s where it started losing me. The controls also aren’t quite smooth enough for a game that relies so heavily on dragging lots and lots of little things around. The game itself is very much built around sorting hundreds of objects across different desks, so repetition is definitely part of the experience.
I did have fun at first, but after a while it simply became too repetitive for me.
If you genuinely love sorting games and just want to switch your brain off and organize things for a while, you might absolutely enjoy this. But if you’re hoping for something with the variety of A Little to the Left or Storyteller, this doesn’t quite get there for me.

Like other negative ratings already posted have noted, there are just too many things going against it. Items are way too repetitive, hit boxes are funky, and there are only two “level” designs. It got boring really fast.

There's been a lot of thought put into different methods to do this - stack items in little piles, slide them in or a traditional click and drag - plus you can move the boxes around. The background sounds and view are cosy and pretty. I think the sounds of the items being moved has some room for improvement, this would have been a perfect game for some really nice object specific sounds and I find myself thinking it would really elevate the experience if you could hear the clink of the sea glass or the rustle of the sweets.

Don't get me wrong, I had fun playing it.. well atleast for the first hour of gameplay but after a while, it becomes such a drag especially for me, as I like to 100% games.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tIt's... okay in small bursts, like when I'm drinking a cup of tea so I only have one hand available. But once the tea is gone, my patience quickly dries up with it.
Item pick up, a core part of the game, is finicky. I'll have my cursor hovering over the side of a coin that's under a cog, with a decent amount sticking out, but it refuses to grab the coin. And trying to pick up a paper clip is just... ugh. I cringe every time they show up in a level.
I don't know what all goes into the random generation of the levels, but I got one level where they gave me 'freedom' to sort the items however I wanted, but there was only one box... so everything just went into it to complete the level. In another level of that type, I had 6 types of pasta in 4 different colors but they only gave me 4 boxes... It doesn't really feel like 'freedom' to sort when I can't choose how many boxes I get.
Aside from that, the categories started grating on me. The more I played the game, the more I noticed.
- A box labeled 'candies' only wanted the wrapped candy. The gummy bears and pillow mints were supposed to go in the 'everything else' box.
- A level with 'small', 'tiny', 'large', and 'huge' categories wanted stamps in the 'huge' category. But the rectangular crackers that were slightly larger than the stamps went to the 'large' category.
- In a level where you sort everything into boxes and then sort the individual boxes into boxes, the first categories were 'seashells' and 'sea glass'. But then the 'seashells' category was broken down into 'seashell' and 'everything else'. It was scallops and clam shells vs sea snails and cone shells.
- Colors: They call magenta 'purple'. Light yellow noodles go in boxes labeled 'white'. Light pink pearls also go in boxes labeled 'white'. There is an 'orange' pillow mint that I can only figure out is supposed to be orange when put next to the light yellow one - they both look yellow to me.
- When given 'freedom' to sort, the game tries to figure out a name for the category based on what you're putting in. In the level with the 6 types of pasta, I stubbornly sorted by type rather than color (squishing a couple spiral ones in one box and the two smaller ones in another box) and was rewarded with the box labels 'pasta', 'pasta', 'pasta', and 'pasta'. They HAVE category names for types of pasta, so why wasn't it figuring out in that instance to at least name the ones with only one type of pasta under a more specific name?
So yeah... small quantities okay, but at the same time, there are other games I can play while drinking tea that I enjoy. I'll probably just play this 'til I get the final achievement and then uninstall it. :/

I enjoy putting all the objects on the paper far more than in the boxes but both are so fun.
