Despite the name, it's not really a light-hearted "woman simulator". There's a much darker story underneath it. You play an Eastern European woman who is essentially treated like a house slave by her husband, and the game deals with control and abuse. At one point I decided I wanted to explore the neighbourhood instead of doing what I was supposed to be doing, and my husband literally put an ankle tracker on me. 😭
He also has a habit of randomly turning up at unexpected times just to "watch" you. JUMP SCARE ALERT. I'd be happily getting on with my virtual housework, turn around and suddenly THERE HE IS.
I understand the issue the game is trying to highlight and I sympathise with the character, but weirdly... I actually just really enjoy doing all the household tasks. I want to cook, clean, go shopping, organise the house and generally live my little virtual housewife life without my oppressive husband making everything miserable.
The random water and power outages are probably intended to make the game more challenging and fit the setting/story, but I personally find them more annoying than enjoyable. I'd LOVE an option to reduce these events or turn them off altogether.
My biggest issue is the longevity. The game only progresses to Day 7, and if you don't pursue one of the endings, you essentially end up repeating the final day. I'd really like the option to simply continue living and have the game develop beyond that point, rather than escape being the main goal. There could be more life stages, having children, new household responsibilities, upgrades, different events, etc.
I'd actually love a less "forced housewife" and more "housewife by choice" mode alongside the existing storyline. Keep the darker 7-day story as the main campaign, but add an endless/sandbox mode for those of us who genuinely enjoy the simulation side of it. You could even have the option of playing a male character as a stay-at-home husband. Although, I appreciate that Woman Simulator would then need a bit of a name change.

You're constantly managing things you have very little grasp of and it's almost impossible to communicate with your husband. Instructions are vague at times and you'll forget what you're doing. It's almost like you're meant to fail and that's the point I think a lot of people are missing. This feels like more of a social commentary than most people will give it credit for.

The gameplay loop is brutally uncompromising. You pick up dirty underwear, wash clothes, iron them, pay bills, clean the house, and generally assist your husband as though someone accidentally turned a shared household responsibilities spreadsheet into a first-person video game. Forget dragons, intergalactic warfare, or surviving a nuclear apocalypse. Your greatest enemy here is a pair of underpants that someone has apparently decided belongs on the floor. After several minutes of carefully collecting laundry, I experienced something games rarely make me feel: the overwhelming desire to close Steam and check whether my actual washing machine had finished.
There is a strange brilliance to the commitment, though. Most simulators let you live out fantasies you cannot experience in real life. Flight Simulator lets you pilot a Boeing 747. Farming Simulator gives you millions of dollars worth of agricultural machinery. Euro Truck Simulator lets you peacefully transport industrial equipment across Europe. Woman Simulator gives you an electricity bill and tells you to deal with it. At one point I was ironing clothes while mentally questioning whether I had paid my own internet bill. Few games have achieved this level of psychological immersion.
Helping your husband adds another fascinating layer to the experience. Other games give you companions with elaborate skill trees, combat abilities, and branching dialogue. Here, your primary co-op objective appears to be making sure a fully grown adult continues functioning while you simultaneously deal with laundry, cleaning, finances, and whatever biological disaster has occurred inside the underwear basket. I kept waiting for a boss battle, only to realise I was already fighting it. The boss was domestic administration.
Technically, Woman Simulator may be one of the most realistic survival games ever created. There is no health bar, no ammunition counter, and no invading army. There are simply chores. Endless, regenerating chores. You can defeat a demon in DOOM and know it will stay dead. You can wash every item of clothing in Woman Simulator and understand, with quiet horror, that tomorrow there will be more.
Verdict: Woman Simulator is an unexpectedly compelling glimpse into the terrifying endgame of adulthood, where the ultimate achievement is reaching the bottom of the laundry basket before someone generates additional content. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAlright... controversy and idiotic naming aside: I weirdly love doing chores so I thought I'd be into this. Even if you focus on that facet of the game: it falls apart almost immediately. Here are some basic thoughts from my small time with the title:
I honestly can't think of a better way to encapsulate this title other than, "the culture war version of Hatred".\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
\n\n\t\t\t\t- The overall vibe spins between house wife being forced to do chores against her will and just a constantly surprised maid. Like your husband will just randomly ninja teleport behind you to check on your status of... being a housewife?
- The gameplay is weird and floaty. Everything is mostly "pick up tool or place items in cleaning area", but nothing feels particularly satisfying to use. The most depth you get is using the right detergent for the laundry and assembling different arrays of delis and cheeses for a sandwich.
- You're constantly hounded by a MOOD meter. Doing chores drops this rapidly, since you seem to be held here against your will, so you'll need to raise it throughout the day. I genuinely didn't get to this part of the game so I have no idea what does it. Probably something low hanging fruit like listening to True Crime podcasts or shopping online.
- I will say I like the song that plays on the title screen. It's pretty fun. Very early Avril Lavigne.
- I've never done this before but I'm going to list the Discussions and Reviews section of this game as a net negative. It just can't be worth anyone's energy.
