Skill tree
The skill tree is impressively large at first sight, until you realize that each node is a binary 0/1. Normally, you'd see one node grow more expensive to grind its levels up. But here, the same node is placed in multiple nonsensical paths, so you end up with a +gold upgrade mixed in between +shaman damages. And even the final, most expensive upgrades, only give you +10% to the base values. What a weird design.Heroes are dead
Your "chieftain" units are almost completely useless. There are some that unlock fun mechanics (domino effect connecting 5 enemies, or a poison cloud at the clicked point), but most of them only work centered at the chieftain's sprite. The chieftain is so weak that he doesn't even survive running up to the enemy. So you can't use the freezing or blast skills.Grid
There's a mechanic of arranging your units on a grid, but it doesn't really matter - your allies run to the center anyway to attack the enemies there. On levels where it truly matters, e.g. where a proper placement would let you avoid a beam attack, the boss uses his big succ to pull everyone to the center anyway. So what's the point of this?Player to the rescue?
The only thing you can actively do is shoot weak fireballs from the left side of the screen. They are awfully slow, their upgrades are super expensive (obviously), and the only way to make them useful is to use a rapid fire spell that takes ages to refresh. In an idle game, manual input from the player should be much more powerful, otherwise there's even less incentive to interact with the game's window.Ehhh
Disappointing. They may try with more balance upgrades - there have been a few now - but I feel the game is just destined to be boring after one hour. Numbers go up, very slowly, and you can buy one upgrade every once in a while, so the numbers go up 1% faster. After 4 hours, the game seems to be the type where you simply buy the least expensive upgrade, then wait if you aren't strong enough yet. Rebirth, buy the least expensive rebirth upgrades, then repeat. If there is variety, it takes too long to unfold. Balance is bad between units and "totems" which are unit buffs. There's a half-baked "gacha" mechanic to pull for units, which attempts to incorporate pick-3 roguelike elements into each run but just feels bad.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The early game/first run is fun, learning all troops, after this it gets really boring. Most of the troops seem too weak and tend to never pick them, like the assassin that has weird ai that wastes time or the kamikaze machine that explodes once and thats all. The game released with missing mechanics (last rarity doesnt exist or at least couldnt get it). Progression really weird and pointless, basically one strat can carry you the whole game, you just need to spam it for a hundred runs. Meta progression farming feels like a chore, i guess its only bearable if you try a new build every run, but that doesnt even guarantee that you will beat your record. The tree is (or at least it feels like) 95+% just number increases. The trials are either really easy or just annoying to the point of giving up that 5% damage incease that it gives (at least they should unlock bigger mechanics like troops, but only if all trial gimmicks are scrapped and remaked and tested). The lack of troops and especially useful troops is disappointing, like there is the tag for "creatures", but only dragons are part of it. I understand that the main bosses are on stages incremented by 100, but this just means that you can count them on one hand. The minibosses are also lacking, only 2 that just fluxuate between them. Also of course the reason for the rant, what is the point in releasing the game with achievements, so you can add more achievements 20 days later covering already existent content?
Conclusion: I will think to replay the game only for 2.0/re-release, if the devs dont drop it until then.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t🪓 I Thought 26/28 Achievements Meant I Was Nearly Finished... Oh, How Wrong I Was
Orc Incremental is one of those games that starts off looking relatively straightforward and then somehow manages to keep finding new ways to make you say, "Right, I'll just do this next bit..." before several more hours disappear.
At its heart, it's exactly what the name suggests. You build up your orc army, improve your strength, unlock upgrades and gradually push further as the numbers get bigger and your little army becomes increasingly capable. If you enjoy that steady incremental feeling of starting with very little and slowly turning it into something considerably more powerful, there's plenty here to keep scratching that particular itch.
What I particularly liked was that progression rarely felt like I was simply repeating exactly the same thing for the sake of making a number larger. New mechanics and challenges kept appearing, and I regularly found myself having to rethink what I was doing rather than simply waiting for enough resources to accumulate.
Then there were the achievements.
I managed to unlock 26 of the 28 Steam achievements within roughly my first couple of hours.
"Excellent," I thought. "I'm nearly finished."
That was adorable.
More than 40 hours later, those final two achievements had turned into something of a personal mission.
One involved shooting 100 birds, which eventually led to what can only be described as the Great Orcish Avian Economic Exploitation Programme. Birds occasionally fly overhead carrying chests, those chests contain useful coins, and I discovered that farming them could help fund the upgrades and additional units I desperately needed for one of the game's trials.
So there I was, supposedly commanding an army of orcs, while increasingly excited whenever another bird appeared on the screen.
COME ON, BIRD. TOM NEEDS ANOTHER ORC.
The trials themselves were where the game really pushed back. One starts you with practically nothing and your own damage gone, just a healing arrow and it asks you to build yourself into something capable of surviving increasingly difficult waves, with bosses appearing along the way. Progress that initially seemed impossible gradually became manageable as I worked out how the systems fitted together and where I could squeeze out another advantage.
Eventually I completed all of the trials I knew about.
No final achievement.
So I completed it again.
Still nothing.
I even did it a third time and started wondering whether something wasn't triggering correctly.
It turns out the game knew exactly what it was doing.
There was another trial, on page 2 of the trails, that had completely alluded me.
A not but very HIDDEN trial.
And the achievement quite specifically says to complete EVERY Trial.
Fair enough, Orc Incremental. You got me.
That final hidden challenge was an absolute nightmare, I won't throw spoilers out, so yeah, if you play, you'll see it eventually and go "oh yeah, this one", but by this point there was no possibility I was walking away. I'd come far too far for that. Eventually it fell too, the final achievement appeared, and after an absurdly long journey I finally had all 28/28.
And strangely, that's probably one of the biggest compliments I can give the game.
Despite the amount of time I spent with it, I still wanted those last achievements. The repetition generally had a purpose, the challenges gave me something tangible to work towards, and discovering little mechanics and ways of improving my runs kept me engaged long after I originally thought I'd be finished.
It's certainly not going to be for everyone. There is a lot of repetition, some goals require considerable patience, and if you're someone who needs rapid progress every few minutes, some of the later challenges may test that patience considerably.

Orc Incremental took considerably more of my time than I ever expected when I first started playing it, gave me one of the more stubborn achievement hunts I've had in quite a while, briefly convinced me that something might be broken when it was actually hiding another challenge from me, and somehow turned shooting birds into a legitimate economic strategy.

\n\n\t\t\t\tOrc Incremental is one of those games that starts off looking relatively straightforward and then somehow manages to keep finding new ways to make you say, "Right, I'll just do this next bit..." before several more hours disappear.
At its heart, it's exactly what the name suggests. You build up your orc army, improve your strength, unlock upgrades and gradually push further as the numbers get bigger and your little army becomes increasingly capable. If you enjoy that steady incremental feeling of starting with very little and slowly turning it into something considerably more powerful, there's plenty here to keep scratching that particular itch.
What I particularly liked was that progression rarely felt like I was simply repeating exactly the same thing for the sake of making a number larger. New mechanics and challenges kept appearing, and I regularly found myself having to rethink what I was doing rather than simply waiting for enough resources to accumulate.
Then there were the achievements.
I managed to unlock 26 of the 28 Steam achievements within roughly my first couple of hours.
"Excellent," I thought. "I'm nearly finished."
That was adorable.
More than 40 hours later, those final two achievements had turned into something of a personal mission.
One involved shooting 100 birds, which eventually led to what can only be described as the Great Orcish Avian Economic Exploitation Programme. Birds occasionally fly overhead carrying chests, those chests contain useful coins, and I discovered that farming them could help fund the upgrades and additional units I desperately needed for one of the game's trials.
So there I was, supposedly commanding an army of orcs, while increasingly excited whenever another bird appeared on the screen.
COME ON, BIRD. TOM NEEDS ANOTHER ORC.
The trials themselves were where the game really pushed back. One starts you with practically nothing and your own damage gone, just a healing arrow and it asks you to build yourself into something capable of surviving increasingly difficult waves, with bosses appearing along the way. Progress that initially seemed impossible gradually became manageable as I worked out how the systems fitted together and where I could squeeze out another advantage.
Eventually I completed all of the trials I knew about.
No final achievement.
So I completed it again.
Still nothing.
I even did it a third time and started wondering whether something wasn't triggering correctly.
It turns out the game knew exactly what it was doing.
There was another trial, on page 2 of the trails, that had completely alluded me.
A not but very HIDDEN trial.
And the achievement quite specifically says to complete EVERY Trial.
Fair enough, Orc Incremental. You got me.
That final hidden challenge was an absolute nightmare, I won't throw spoilers out, so yeah, if you play, you'll see it eventually and go "oh yeah, this one", but by this point there was no possibility I was walking away. I'd come far too far for that. Eventually it fell too, the final achievement appeared, and after an absurdly long journey I finally had all 28/28.
And strangely, that's probably one of the biggest compliments I can give the game.
Despite the amount of time I spent with it, I still wanted those last achievements. The repetition generally had a purpose, the challenges gave me something tangible to work towards, and discovering little mechanics and ways of improving my runs kept me engaged long after I originally thought I'd be finished.

Orc Incremental has a great mix of idle progression and actual strategy. Building your army, messing with Totems, hunting for good cards, pushing bosses, and deciding whether to Dark Rebirth or stubbornly squeeze out five more levels is dangerously addictive.
The dev has also been pumping out updates, fixes, balance changes, and QoL improvements at an impressive pace.
Great incremental game. Lots to experiment with, plenty more content coming, and somehow my Orc military doctrine is becoming increasingly sophisticated.

The mechanics and premise do show promise and I will not elaborate on the various things that have been described in the other reviews. Instead I will talk about my experience with 100%ing the game. At the time of writing I have yet to do this, though the only achievement I am missing is the 10 dark rebirths which would only require one more from me.
The various achievements are rather disappointing, none relying on interesting unit combinations or strategies and instead being tied to progression or just doing something a lot in a short span of time that you will likely get by accident while playing and grabbing totems. The exceptions to these are the trials, which I did have a fun time completing (aside from the drunken master trial).
The bird achievement was the opposite of fun. Birds are rare, somewhat annoying to get, and something you will typically do by accident. Given all that 100% is far too much as I had to dedicate nearly 5 real world hours to getting this achievement just sitting and waiting in the fireball trial and using an autoclicker to keep the fireball stream in.
Overall, I wish the game was done better as I enjoy the concept. I hope to see it improved in the future.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The RNG card drawing only really serves to pad the game out and make it slower to last longer without really making the game fun. You're just stuck waiting for the right pieces to fall into place and when they don't it's frustrating and boring. Even when you have a "good" build it's just sitting around waiting for the levels to clear while you bounce around the upgrade pages looking for the next one to click on. The trials are also just slow and boring with all of them just being "farm until you can beat it" because you can pretty much just ignore the modifiers since you can just sit and farm indefinitely but they are so slow becauase you start from 0 with none of your prestige bonuses active. The bonus they give is hardly worth it so they're really only there to pad your achievements. All in all, I wouldn't buy this knowing what I do now. The only reason I have so many hours in this game is because I just left this running for the grind, not because I've been playing a lot and having fun.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Finding synergies that work is the most fun part of the game for me, just the pitiful range on some totems makes them hard to justify using since increased range from rarities or traits often separate your short and long range units.
My main complaint is how slowly the income scales compared to the cost of new units and upgrades and how expensive sacrificing is.
Higher rarity units being worth more than 1 sacrifice or affecting the output rarity, or some system to restrict the pool or "clone" existing units would be cool.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
