As it stands Iron Blight is a pretty decent game. It's gameplay loop is reminissent of something like No More Room in Hell where you run around shooting zombies while solving immediate problems like opening new passages or collecting X number of Y to progress the story. However this is all you are getting. Game lacks enternainment value because all you'll be doing througout your entire 4 hour playthrough is walk around big empty maps, solve kindergarten level "puzzles" while shooting zombies.
If anything Iron Blight gave me massive deja vu, like I'm back in Ravenholm. But Ravenholm had way more going for it than just spoopy zombies. You got to properly utilize your gravity gun, make use of traps and enjoy the crazy monologues of Father Grigori. Here you don't ever see anything happening in the world. You constantly keep hearing other people dying or fighting zombies, but you barely see any corpses, there are almost no signs of struggle and it just looks like the city was dead for a VERY long time. For a tense zombie game it's very tame.
Don't get me wrong, game sucks you in instantly due to its very good looking visuals and artstyle, immersive elements like diegetic UI and detailed animations, outstanding work when it comes to sound design that brought me memories from RE7 as well as tense gameplay sequences where game throws a bunch of zombies at you. And on higher difficulties with additional modifiers you gotta keep an eye out on your inventory space, ammo, infection meter, melee weapon durability and surroundings to not get sandwiched. Highly recommended to start on the hardest difficulty with all the modifiers on (besides iron man).
Exploration is rewarded with new guns and gun mods, but that's not enough. You never find yourself on an arena where you can utilize verticality or physics to your advantage to spice up the battle (hell you can't even jump in this game). You never find yourself on the high ground that would allow you to properly utilize that sniper rifle with a scope and suppressor I kept carrying around HOPING something like that would happen. You never get to avoid danger by sneaking past zombies or distracting them. Yes, sometimes you can instakill a zombie with melee if you sneak up on them, but it's a VERY rare occasion. And for a game that claims to be a survival horror, you do very little when it comes to struggling and surviving and more pew-pew boom-booms, essentially cleaning out dozens of zombies.
This feels more like the proof of concept rather than a proper game. Something you usually get in early access, get impressed by and say "welp, see you around in a couple of months". I really like what you did here, so I can only hope you expand on this and make something better.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Where the game really shines is in its atmosphere, gunplay and exploration – qualities I’d already noticed and appreciated in the demo.
The gunplay is solid overall. The bolt-action sniper rifle fires slowly and has a strong recoil, but it packs an extremely powerful punch. The pistol is our first weapon; it fires quickly, reloads quickly, but doesn’t deal all that much damage.
Then there are shotguns, SMGs and a few melee weapons. Melle weapons break after a few hits. The selection is solid, perhaps even a little too large for the comparatively small inventory.
The fact that weapons sometimes jam, shotguns need to be manually pumped and, if you prefer, there’s no magazine integration, are all nice touches that naturally blend into the gameplay.
You can also find gun mods, such as scopes, magazines and silencers, and it feels really satisfying when your rifle has a scope for easier aiming on long ranges or your revolver has a muzzle brake to reduce recoil.
The atmosphere always feels pleasantly eerie. An enemy could be lurking round every corner; you have to be on your guard, only to realise that sometimes you’re all alone and your mind is playing tricks on you. The comparison with Cry of Fear is definitely apt here.
Exploring is also fun thanks to the map; you always know where you’ve already been and, thanks to the markers, where there’s still an obstacle to overcome.
What the game really doesn’t do well, however, are the story, the enemies, a few minor bugs and inventory management.
I don’t want to say there’s no story, because that would be completely wrong, but you can sum it up in two or three fairly short sentences. The ending is also strangely abrupt and the two chapters also feel as though two different games have been glued together.
Chapter one, which made up the demo, is really great, and exploring the building complex is fun. Chapter two, set in the realistic modelled city, plays more as if you were in an unnecessarily big hub world and, ultimately, just head off to smaller – far too small – levels. No surprise here: the apartment block works best in this one too.
Of course, there are plenty of games that are carried by their gameplay, with the story serving merely as a justification for it all, but that’s not the case here – unlike the devs’ other project, Aquametsis, where I’m not sure if there’s a story, though I also really enjoyed the demo.
I only really came across a few bugs. Towards the end, when you’re fighting military units, a couple of them spawned quite close in front of me, and on one occasion the game saved my character in a hollow from which I couldn’t escape – due to the lack of a jump function – and had to reload a state, which was about 30 minutes before that point.
Unfortunately, ammunition doesn’t stack either. For example: I have a box with ten rounds, one with one, and one with nine. This takes up three inventory slots, although I think it should simply merge into two boxes of ten rounds each. Perhaps it’s a deliberate design choice.
From chapter two onwards, the enemies leave a lot to be desired. Whilst in the first chapter there were three or four types of enemy that were fairly balanced, here there are seven or eight, half of which simply feel like bullet sponges.
Then there are also sections where enemies only spawn once you’re close enough to them. At the train depot, for example, you could in theory snipe the enemies from a good vantage point, if you have the ammo, but in practice these enemies only spawn once you’ve gone down the stairs and are just about five metres away from them.
There are also sections where you’re suddenly bombarded with enemies, for example when you’re walking through the warehouse in the supermarket. Usually you’re fighting a maximum of two or three enemies, occasionally four, but in such sections there are easily eight to ten or even more at once storming towards you.
I hope that my purchase has helped support the development of Aquametsis and that the developers have learnt from this game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The gunplay is solid overall. The bolt-action sniper rifle fires slowly and has a strong recoil, but it packs an extremely powerful punch. The pistol is our first weapon; it fires quickly, reloads quickly, but doesn’t deal all that much damage.
Then there are shotguns, SMGs and a few melee weapons. Melle weapons break after a few hits. The selection is solid, perhaps even a little too large for the comparatively small inventory.
The fact that weapons sometimes jam, shotguns need to be manually pumped and, if you prefer, there’s no magazine integration, are all nice touches that naturally blend into the gameplay.
You can also find gun mods, such as scopes, magazines and silencers, and it feels really satisfying when your rifle has a scope for easier aiming on long ranges or your revolver has a muzzle brake to reduce recoil.
The atmosphere always feels pleasantly eerie. An enemy could be lurking round every corner; you have to be on your guard, only to realise that sometimes you’re all alone and your mind is playing tricks on you. The comparison with Cry of Fear is definitely apt here.
Exploring is also fun thanks to the map; you always know where you’ve already been and, thanks to the markers, where there’s still an obstacle to overcome.
What the game really doesn’t do well, however, are the story, the enemies, a few minor bugs and inventory management.
I don’t want to say there’s no story, because that would be completely wrong, but you can sum it up in two or three fairly short sentences. The ending is also strangely abrupt and the two chapters also feel as though two different games have been glued together.
Chapter one, which made up the demo, is really great, and exploring the building complex is fun. Chapter two, set in the realistic modelled city, plays more as if you were in an unnecessarily big hub world and, ultimately, just head off to smaller – far too small – levels. No surprise here: the apartment block works best in this one too.
Of course, there are plenty of games that are carried by their gameplay, with the story serving merely as a justification for it all, but that’s not the case here – unlike the devs’ other project, Aquametsis, where I’m not sure if there’s a story, though I also really enjoyed the demo.
I only really came across a few bugs. Towards the end, when you’re fighting military units, a couple of them spawned quite close in front of me, and on one occasion the game saved my character in a hollow from which I couldn’t escape – due to the lack of a jump function – and had to reload a state, which was about 30 minutes before that point.
Unfortunately, ammunition doesn’t stack either. For example: I have a box with ten rounds, one with one, and one with nine. This takes up three inventory slots, although I think it should simply merge into two boxes of ten rounds each. Perhaps it’s a deliberate design choice.
From chapter two onwards, the enemies leave a lot to be desired. Whilst in the first chapter there were three or four types of enemy that were fairly balanced, here there are seven or eight, half of which simply feel like bullet sponges.
Then there are also sections where enemies only spawn once you’re close enough to them. At the train depot, for example, you could in theory snipe the enemies from a good vantage point, if you have the ammo, but in practice these enemies only spawn once you’ve gone down the stairs and are just about five metres away from them.
There are also sections where you’re suddenly bombarded with enemies, for example when you’re walking through the warehouse in the supermarket. Usually you’re fighting a maximum of two or three enemies, occasionally four, but in such sections there are easily eight to ten or even more at once storming towards you.

I want to preface this with making sure everyone reading this review knows that i played on the hardest difficulty for my first playthrough so some of the issues i mention might or might not be because of my choosen difficulty.
I played this game under the illusion that it is a survival horror game and the first chapter does offer such an experience to a degree but the second chapter which is a lot bigger than the first chapter turned out to be more of a horde shooter at times combined with puzzles at the worst of times.
The game is also quite bugged, be it your weapons becoming invisble or straight up being unable to do anything anymore because my weapon said so.
Doors where removed locks respawn and become impossible to open.
Ending the game also doesn´t reward you with the proper achievments.
Its sad because the idea of the game and the bones it provides are incredible good but its currently so unpolished so i would wait for a few updates and then think about getting it.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Again, I only got an hour in the game, I hope that's not the case (that we have only one way to go (also since the game was kind of advertised (at least from the YouTuber that I watched who covered it) as an immersive sim, and I'd assume there are multiple ways of doing things))
- That's a personal thing, but at the main menu you could select chapters. (I do not like games that show you, "Hey, look, there's x chapters until the end of the game." - Idk, I feel like that gives me FOMO, and I rush the game then.)

Now, after about an hour of playtime, I can comfortably say that they’ve done a great job. I really liked the game's atmosphere. Combining retro graphics with modern gameplay mechanics was handled brilliantly. The game plays smoothly without feeling clunky—a critical point, as it solves the lack of fluidity that I consider one of the biggest flaws in modern indie horror.
You can find inventory expansion items throughout the game, and locating them is crucial—make sure you don't miss them!
The concept of connecting the map through unlockable shortcuts, commonly seen in similar titles, is present here as well, and the level connectivity is executed well.
The weapon jamming mechanic seemed a bit risky at first, but I realized it fits the survival aspect perfectly. Having zombies rush at you forces quick thinking without making things feel impossible. On the contrary, it acts as an element that keeps you on your toes and adds positively to the experience.
For certain weapons, you need to manually rack a new round into the chamber after firing. It's a great design choice that really heightens the realism. The zombie variety in the opening chapter felt sufficient, and I expect it to expand further as the game progresses.

They took what worked in the enclosed spaces of the first part and made it even more enjoyable here. As expected, enemy variety increased, with more Left 4 Dead-style zombies starting to appear.
The game features a bicycle-riding mechanic that speeds up travel through the city significantly—a fantastic addition.

From a narrative standpoint, it delivers solid quality for an indie title. Without spoiling anything, they opted for a straightforward, plain story, so it's best not to expect deep narrative twists.

There are some good ideas here, and I think the foundation could make for a much stronger experience if expanded upon. This game is genuinely amazing, and I haven't even finished it yet. I believe I have a bit of a ways yet which is awesome. The art style is that retro kind that everybody loves and the music, though subtle, is beautiful. The levels are extremely well thought out and are full of loot and secrets to find. The whole game feels inspired by Resident Evil and similar survival horror titles while still making its own identity. The guns feel great to use and the mutants are genuinely disturbing. I haven't seen them all yet but there are different kinds of mutants and I've loved them all so far, some are seriously intimidating though I won't spoil any. The looting is a really addicting loop and actually does make you decide what you should and shouldn't take with the storage that's given to you, which you can upgrade by finding larger backpacks as you journey. One of my favorite things about Iron Blight is the simplicity of your goal: survive and get back to your beloved wife. Its the kind of single-focus you would really have in a situation like this and I appreciate that simplicity in a genre that's usually throwing all kinds of plots and great evils to be vanquished at you. In Iron Blight, you just want to keep breathing and find your love safe and sound. Something else I noticed is the ambient screams and gunshots going on around you in the town. The work done on these are some of the most genuine and creepy audio bits of its kind that I've heard in a game. Those people are out there around you and fighting just like you and they're dying horribly. There is actual fear and pain in the way they sound. The creepiest part isn't how real and off-putting they sound, its the fact that none of those people sound like they're winning. Eventually, as far as I can tell, the screams and fighting lessen a lot. Fewer and fewer people left in the city. These background sounds do wonders in keeping you on edge and creating a sensation of hopelessness. A final detail I'd like to highlight, when something terrifying happens your character's hands will begin to shake and his breathing gets heavy. His first mutant kill or facing the horrors within Apartment B (have fun in there lol) all cause this effect and its extremely immersive. Shells and discarded bullets actually fall to the ground, everything physical has a 3D model that takes up space in the world and is never relegated to a flat image in a menu. Iron Blight is very accessible as well, giving you a variety of difficulties and customizable settings to choose from to make your playthrough as difficult or easy as you would like, even including an Ironman mode to play with. For my first time I've chosen to do Normal difficult, pick whichever you'd like, but I HIGHLY recommend turning Iron sight aiming and ammo loss on. By default your character just zooms with crosshairs when aiming, whereas iron sight aiming makes you actually use the weapon's sights. The default reload just puts more ammo into your gun and that's it but ammo loss makes it so reloading a magazine will lose whatever ammo was still inside. These settings make the game more difficult in a genuinely enjoyable way while also boosting the immersion and strategy massively. A quick tip with the ammo loss setting, if you unload any ammo that was still good you can pick it up off the ground to put back in your backpack! The initial area was a bit rough around the edges and the jank was noticable, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The game earned its price tag with chapter 2 and all the great level design and encounters. The jank didn't prevent the fun. I'd happily come back for more chapters.
Some feedback: improve perf, I had a few sections of chapter 2 drop to 50fps on my beefy rig when 4+ enemies were active and some physics objects were active. I'd strongly recommend doing a polish pass on the opening 30min of the game as I was debating a refund and that would've been a shame with how awesome the back portion of the game is. (smooth out some of the zombie death anims, the UI has some oddities where menus trap input or don't close, I almost locked my game up when trying to replace a pipe and the ui became unresponsive).

I'm only on the second level as I write this so perhaps it'll fade but the hairs on the back of my neck stand up whenever I'm playing, the sounds of the infected always being close by and having to manage limited inventory space certainly makes for intense gameplay!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tDespite a few noticeable bugs, this game was very fun and immersive and as an enjoyer of zombie games and movies, I had to give it a shot. Iron Blight had very good performance on my PC and I thought that despite the retro graphics, the game had amazing clarity. The graphics resemble some earlier PS2 era games, and they add to the overall tone and atmosphere of the game. I found the sound design to be very good, and the main thing that kept me on the edge of my seat. The sound design is really good, and the gritty, cold, dark setting is enough to make you start sweating. Despite the great atmospheric horror, there were some cheap jump scares and some annoying bugs I encountered.
Another thing id like to point out is that the two chapters can feel like separate games. I really enjoyed the zombie combat and the zombie types encountered in the first chapter, this chapter made me pretty fearful and avoidant of the zombies. Rather than feeling like a traditional end-game character that shoots and bashes their way through everyone and everything, this chapter makes you feel like a normal dude trying to survive and being dealt the short end of the stick. I enjoyed this differing take that zombies are best avoided, and the combat kind of reminded me of the no more room in hell series, since it felt a bit slow and clunky. In the first chapter, these zombies are pretty slow, but these slow stumbling zombies slowly accumulate, next thing you know you're surrounded! In chapter 2 the game tries to just throw different stuff at you, and rather than being silent and sneaking past zombies you end up mostly shooting your way through zombies (or struggling if you don't find ammo).
Further, the story was pretty good (wont spoil it) overall the story is what does it for me, and I enjoyed the various puzzles and searches needed to complete objectives to further the story. I would like to note, that this game has some serious replay potential. I had to end my first playthrough since i picked the hardest difficulty, and I got stuck after the first chapter when I couldn't get past some harder zombie types that start to appear. I finished the game on easy, and I am pretty excited for future updates, I see myself coming back to play on a harder difficulty sometime in the near future.
