\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI've been waiting for another solid indie horror in this vein for too long. For me, the last decent ones were Nightmare of Decay and Night at the Gates of Hell. Lost in Vivo and The Lacerator I put in a league of their own. I tried plenty of demos recently and came to the conclusion that most games of the current "PSX" (i.e. lo-fi) trend are poorly made and have no direction, taking their trashy roots too literally. Despite the trend, good indie horrors are more rare than meets the eye. Cry of Fear 2 ain't happening, not during this wave. I didn't hope for it, although, Iron Blight has broken the upsetting combo of mediocrity using an offbeat approach. Let me explain why I think these 7 hours were worthwhile.
Speaking of appearances, Iron Blight is extremely neat. Maybe too much so, the gore could be messier. I'd settle for a darker, thicker blood. But it's not like this game tries to be disturbing by these means, opting for a cartoony comicbook look. At that, it's like well-laid parquet or a wall painted by perfectionists. Not a single spot missed, no place to stick in an inconsistency across a refined artistry of this rock-solid arrangement. As far as low-poly stylisations go, this one is executed diligently. The same prostrates to sound design. Shooting is fine, damage feedback could use some additional oomph, but it's a nitpick. Background soundscapes steal the show. Screams and moans echo in the halls, working in tandem with the weather, and ghostly whispers coming from behind a locked door keep you guessing. It rains. Through the rain, you can hear a storm drain pouring. Look for the sound source - it's exactly there, not just background noise. That attention to detail is admirable.
Exploration goes strong and has a good flow, not least thanks to being separated into big seamless segments free of loadings between interiors and exteriors. It really helps with immersion. You mostly look for tools to open doors to get to other tools, etc. It's a natural part of your typical Rezzy agenda, on par with light puzzles and resource scarcity. The latter is expressed in temporary droughts rather than a constant struggle. To drip-feed a player right is a balancing act. Playing on Hardcore, every other smack I took half of my health, teaching me to value my loot... kinda. I like bigger difficulties in horror games, they give your finds more meaning, making exploration hit harder. That said, here scarcity was done fine for the most part, until the game gave up closer to the end. Pity. Anyway, you look for food, ammo, backpack upgrades, even gun mods are present. Laser sight, longer barrel, all that good stuff. Most of the mods are hidden away from the main path, so being thorough is encouraged.
To boot, Iron Blight consistently dispenses imaginative little features and artistic strokes that improve on everything. Take fine detail like having to physically pull out your map or have space to put down your bag and rummage in it, all in real time. Seeing your body is always a nice touch pertaining to tangibility, seeing how our man's arms start trembling when things get heated without the game ruining the moment by trying to explain it away is even nicer. He just gets scared sometimes, is all. A horror game can always use some of that flavour and an odd ripe trope, sometimes barely noticeable things create suspense that keeps you on your toes. Like when you see a zombie's shadow behind a corner or them banging on the door and eventually breaking it down when you shut it in their face to catch a breather. Your flashlight blinks for a second - just enough to distract you. Subtle and effective.
While I thought the hordes were WAY overused and soon lost their appeal as a suspense device, I still didn't mind since combat mechanics shined during massive encounters. As a difficulty option, you realistically drop a magazine with remaining ammo while reloading, which you can then pick back up from the ground (if you could find it). I recommend turning it on, it makes you sweat. A gun can also jam in the middle of a scuffle, and these moments of panic are simply priceless. Bullet casings realistically roll downhill, heads go splat, and weapon drawing animations are a song. This is how you elevate an otherwise average combat system. When all the features come together, it becomes more than the sum of its parts. That can be said about Iron Blight as a whole. I didn't see the appeal before it started to bloom after the first chapter, then it grabbed me firmly. There's nothing innovative or particularly impressive technically, none of the things it does is a revelation on its own. Regardless, resourceful people from Ronesans Interactive managed to combine mundane bits and bobs lying around their garage into a tank engine of a game. I hope to see more from these guys.

The story is minimalist. The prologue shows our main guy having a loving wife. Everyone knows you're not allowed to have a loving wife after an apocalypse kicks in. That it does. She might still be alive, though, so the goal is to find her by fighting your way through hordes of zombies infesting a post-apocalyptic Muhosransk. I call it that derogatory term as a joke, a provincial town in Russia can't be that tidy no matter the season. Oily sludge or black snow, there gotta be some substance covering the streets. And air conditioners? Yeah, right. It's an idealistic model reminiscent of something like Saint Petersburg, with its scenic promenades and low-rise architecture. I've been there once when I was 17... Such a cultured place! A couple of locals smashed a guitar over my head and broke my nose after mistaking me for a gopnik. They weren't wrong, we all looked like one where I'm from. Eventually Iron Blight's world opens up, which I didn't expect to see. I thought the action would always take place in cramped spaces, maybe a set of alleys, but then you're given a town to explore. It's an abridged miniature, however, even that abstraction is extra compared to the usual scope of garage horrors. In spite of an ambition way grand for the budget, the feature was competently implemented. Nothing broke on my watch, nothing felt half-assed, the brutal simplicity of the scenery worked in Iron Blight's favour. And hey, you can ride a bicycle to travel faster! It has peculiar physics, too. They didn't have to do this, yet they did. This is a trend with this game. Environments get better and better as you go, I particularly appreciated the haunted gigapanelka. Combat
Combat got the same treatment, being enhanced by fun features and a big arsenal, which includes a pistol and a magnum, 2 shotguns (one you gotta pump manually and it's the best thing ever), 3 machine guns, a rifle, several disposable melee weapons. When all else fails, you've got a janky kick to rely on. For enemies you have nasty spitting zombies, leaping gopnik zombies, tall zombies, hulking blind zombies. I also met a couple of fat megazombies who were supposed to be my stalkers at one point, but sneaking here is inconsistent, so I killed both. And I appreciated being allowed to. As for encounter design, Iron Blight is a one trick pony. Aside from rare interesting sequences, it mostly relies on unleashing overwhelming hordes on your ass. You'd think those would leave you no choice but to wrap up and run. Nope, often you actually have to fight those, it seems as if the game knows it's too generous and this is its way to enforce ammo sinks. Thankfully, you can run through enemies. One of the gems I discovered during Steam February Nextfest 2026. Iron Blight is an amazing first-person retro survival horror. Taking inspiration from the early Resident Evil series and indies like Cry Of Fear, the game features a unique diegetic menu and semi-realistic gameplay to help it stand out among its peers. I do have some gripes towards the key items and the story, but overall this game is a short and sweet package for the retro horror lovers!

\n\n\t\t\t\tImmersive Retro Survival Horror
One of the gems I discovered during Steam February Nextfest 2026. Iron Blight is an amazing first-person retro survival horror. Taking inspiration from the early Resident Evil series and indies like Cry Of Fear, the game features a unique diegetic menu and semi-realistic gameplay to help it stand out among its peers. I do have some gripes towards the key items and the story, but overall this game is a short and sweet package for the retro horror lovers!
Things I Like About Iron Blight:
- Simple Aesthetic, Great Atmosphere: First of all, I dig the Eastern European/Soviet-like bloc town in a cold, rainy night setting. As a complete foreigner, this kind of half-industrialized, half-utilitarian small town exudes a weirdly calm vibe, even after the zombie apocalypse occurs. The simplistic art style not only helps establish the tranquility but also gives room for the lighting and sound effects to create all sorts of horrifying encounters. Whether it be the shadow of a mutant shambling around the corner or hearing several feral mutants breaking through doors and charging towards you from the darkness, Iron Blight relies solely on the immersive atmosphere to keep you on the toes.
- Diegetic UI: Now it's been a while since I saw this design. Amnesia: The Bunker and Dead Space series are the immediate examples that sprint into my mind. This design easily makes the game feel more natural and immersive. Not having a UI constantly hovering over your head means you have to pay close attention to your health status and your surroundings. Opening the inventory or the maps does not pause the game, so you need to be extra careful when you decide to stop and have a quick sort. This design also plays incredibly well to my next compliment.
- Semi-realistic Combat: Besides the classic healing items and ammo management, Iron Blight takes on the survival horror combat with a semi-realistic approach. Guns can jam, and most guns require you to operate them after each shot. Imagine facing several mutants charging towards you while your guns are either not loaded or jammed; the tension can become extremely nerve-wracking. There are also no ammo counters. The only way to check how many are left in the magazine or in the chamber is to hold the reload button and count the actual bullets. Be careful though; reloading magazine-fed guns discards the whole mag on the ground. You can retrieve it, but it's better to memorize the number of bullets left for an efficient survival. All these mechanics single-handedly change the dynamic of the rather simplistic combat.
- Mutant Design & Variations: Mutants (commonly referred to as zombies) also have several interesting tricks up their rotten sleeves. They are relatively fast. They can drop dead after a single instance of damage and claw back at you when you least expect it. They are also attracted to loud noises such as gunshots or running, so there are some stealth elements in the gameplay as well. Here's a quick tip: bodies with flies never wake up. There are special mutants as well. Their designs are distinctive among the regular mutants, and their capabilities easily make them a target priority for your survival. My favorite one is definitely the hulking brutes in the apartment. Their footsteps are heavy enough to shake the ground. They can only be deterred by dumping hefty amounts of ammo on them. Their ruthless search around the apartment easily makes the situation anxiety-inducing and memorable.
Things I Dislike About Iron Blight:
- Key Items: Don't get me wrong, though. I do like this type of "collect the right items to proceed" gameplay, but I feel like the key items are underutilized. Many of them serve a single purpose and nothing else, which makes sense in the first chapter since The Dormitory is a closed level. However, chapter two gives you a whole town to explore. Suddenly this design philosophy feels more like a missed opportunity. The Town should offer you more obstacles or bonus areas to access with the key items you collect. Even puzzles with multiple layers of unlocking or special escape sequences that would test your knowledge of the key items would be welcoming additions. I also think giving key items their own separated inventory slots is a pretty redundant design.
- Other Complaints:
- If you run or move when the protagonist is using the key items, you can potentially soft-lock yourself out of any menu.
- Melee and kick still feel awkward to use, mostly because of the weird delay between your swing and the hit registration.
- The story is unusually straightforward. There are no visible ups and downs in the narrative to contribute towards the ending.

- 意外的滿喜歡這種東歐/蘇聯式場景設計，強調簡潔效率及半工業化的小鎮在冷雨中散發著一股奇妙且平靜的氣息，即使爆發殭屍災難也絲毫不減這分靜意。
- 簡約的畫風成功襯托出光影與音效的重要性，遊戲很多駭人的場景都是透過兩者互相搭配，打造出恐怖氛圍讓你胡思亂想，無論是轉角步履蹣跚的詭異身影、時不時傳來的慘叫聲與槍響、甚至是殭屍試圖破門而入的橋段，各個都讓遊戲緊張的氣氛直衝天際。
- 很久沒看到這種融入世界觀的道具選單了，《絕命異次元》系列與《失憶症：地堡》證明如此不只能讓你更加沉浸在其中，沒有抬頭顯示器也意味著你必須隨時警惕自身周圍是否安全，畢竟開這種選單不會暫停遊戲，把背包拿下來放地上查看的設計格外有臨場感，充分體現生存恐怖步步為營的要素。
- 本作採用了許多半寫實的設計為讓你在戰鬥的同時需要留一絲心眼：沒有血條或子彈數量顯示器，需要長按換彈(R)檢查彈夾裡剩餘子彈數、手槍射一射會卡彈、諸多槍枝都是單發式每開一槍都需要手動復位、換彈會整個彈夾直接拋棄所以切記不要射一發就急著換彈、近戰武器也有耐久度，搭配手槍及你的踢擊節省彈藥才是上策。
- 普通殭屍也藏有許多花招，走路速度比很多同儕快，受傷時有機率假死，會在你最意想不到的時候爬起來偷咬你一口，它們也會被你的槍聲及跑步聲吸引，倒地的會爬起來，也會主動打破門鎖朝你襲來。這裡給個小提示：屍體上有蒼蠅在飛的都不會爬起來。
- 特殊殭屍造型特別顯眼，攻擊方式棘手不說，混在屍群裡非常考驗你的準度及應變能力。印象最深刻莫過於公寓裡的巨型殭屍，沉重的腳步足以撼動整個樓層，來回巡邏的非常勤，需要耗費大量彈藥才能擊退，躲在門後聽那此起彼落的腳步聲絕對能讓你心跳加速，恐怖至極。
不喜歡的點
- 我覺得工具的運用可以再靈活些，「一個工具對應一個坎」的設計或許在第一章較狹小的宿舍中問題不大，但到第二張整個半開放式的小鎮就不一樣了，沒有多設計些額外上鎖的房間或逃脫環節讓你多加利用手中的工具實屬可惜。工具自成一欄的設計也相當多餘，應該要與其他消耗品共用同一個背包，讓每一分取捨更加重要才對。
- 如果在主角用工具的動畫未結束前移動很容易卡bug，讓你什麼介面都打不開。
- 近戰打擊感依舊詭異，傷害成功判定到敵人作出反應之間有個奇怪的遲鈍，特別是用腳踢的時侯更嚴重，攻擊動畫跟攻擊判定幾乎連不起來。
- 遊戲故事有點平餔直敘，沒什麼鋪陳，結尾感覺也匆匆了事。

You'll scrounge for ammo, track down tools to help you unlock a variety of doors, and, of course, fend of the living dead with whatever guns you can "borrow" from your neighbors -- they won't be needing it. After an introductory area that gets you used to the game's mechanics, you're spilled into a larger urban environment and tasked with hunting down parts to repair a getaway boat. Here, you have a bit of freedom to search each section of the map in the order you want (unless you're impeded by a very specific door type). I greatly appreciated the non-linearity of the town. It really made me feel like I stepped into a Romero scenario in progress.
There's a purposeful clunk to the game's mechanics that makes the relatively simple undead AI feel more threatening. Reloading is methodically slow, and your guns are prone to jam, causing for mild palpitations mid-fight. You also need to check your inventory in a safe space since the game doesn't pause while you do, and your character physically needs to unshoulder their backpack to dig through it. Nice little touches that make you feel vulnerable (even though, eventually, you're able to gather up a small weapons locker of guns).
Admittedly, the gameplay is pretty straightforward. Everything you learn in the opening 30 minutes is everything you're doing for the rest of the game. The only variation are the different types of zombies you encounter, but their patterns are not likely to trip you up, and the only consideration you have to worry about is how much more ammo they eat before they lie still. I don't think survival horror vets will sweat normal mode, but there's multiple difficulty options and even a perma-death mode available if you're looking for a harrowing time.

The initial area was a bit rough around the edges and the jank was noticable, but I'm glad I stuck with it. The game earned its price tag with chapter 2 and all the great level design and encounters. The jank didn't prevent the fun. I'd happily come back for more chapters.
Some feedback: improve perf, I had a few sections of chapter 2 drop to 50fps on my beefy rig when 4+ enemies were active and some physics objects were active. I'd strongly recommend doing a polish pass on the opening 30min of the game as I was debating a refund and that would've been a shame with how awesome the back portion of the game is. (smooth out some of the zombie death anims, the UI has some oddities where menus trap input or don't close, I almost locked my game up when trying to replace a pipe and the ui became unresponsive).
Storywise for future content: I found the enemies in the final minutes an OK twist and decent way to shake up the ending. Please keep 'mutants' the focus in future content though.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

O jogo é extremamente imersivo, assustador e como ele tem mecânicas de survivor horror você precisará gerenciar melhor o seu inventário em dificultades maiores. Deu pra ver que os desenvolvedores ou desenvovedor tiveram um carinho imenso com os detalhes nesse jogo fora que deu pra ver a inspiração em stalker.
O pessoal está falando que o jogo é curto, realmente você não vai passar mais de 8hrs nele porém o fator exploração e o level design desse jogo é muito bem feito fazendo você visitar vários tipos de lugares na cidade dando a sensação de grandeza no mapa, sinceramente acho que ele tem o tempo de jogo correto pois acredito que os desenvolvedores também pensaram que se adicionacem mais tempo iria ficar massante devido a história ser direto ao ponto.

Surprisingly, I was made aware of the game by people talking about it on Social Media and the gameplay/graphics in their clips was just about right up my alley, so I didn't hesistate to buy the game.
Finished it in a single four hour session and I can safely say that it was money well spent. The game is very atmospheric and does well to portray the initial hours of an apocalypse that has already consumed a city which now lays in silence with the exception of the occasional scream or police siren blaring in the distance. To add onto that, there were plenty of times during my playthrough where I shrieked from a Mutant hiding in a corner or unsettling ambience down a dark corridor.
The gunplay feels satisfying, enemies aren't meat sponges and can be realistically killed in a few targeted shots to the head. Ammo is distributed equally around the map and doesn't give the player too much either so I was in this constant state of rationing ammo in hopes of finding more.

Before I vomit negativity, I want to say that my opinion doesn't matter nearly as much as your own. This is still a game that was made with an amount of effort that I've likely never once in my life exerted. It is an achievement, regardless of how I whine and complain below. I just didn't like it, and found the description of this game to be comparable to snake oil.
The atmosphere? Fantastic, best part of the game. Sound design is good. Weapons feel good to fire. The first section of the game is proper survival horror.
All those elements this page says it has? I has them, but maybe a quarter of each.
I'll quickly get this over with, as I don't think it's that important. The levels in this game are simply boring to me. Unexpressive, lifeless, flat square rooms and corridors. There is no character to nearly any individual level. I did enjoy the art style, however it feels like a blueprint that's missing anything to make levels look interesting. (There are a few standouts. Two, to be precise, that have some sort of direction that makes them feel unique other than the brand new prop! strewn around the level. Those levels are an overgrown factory as well as an apartment tower that offers impressive views that overlook the town you're trapped inside.
This, on its own, is definitely not a major flaw, hardly more than a nitpick. Levels can be boring to look at but interesting to play through, which is another staple of the genre. These levels, unfortunately, are not. Beyond the first level you will play through a series of linear pathways that might trick you into thinking you made a choice, but you never actually do. One of the biggest disappointments was beginning a new chapter and opening the map to see a gigantic, open environment that I imagined I'd be planning routes through, or exploring for upgrades, going on hikes to find medicine, strategizing, THINKING.
This level has one diverging path (I might be wrong, and there are actually none). Either path will take you through a sequence of linear paths with enemies you cannot rarely sneak past while collecting what loot you can. Until suddenly in the distance some nondescript LOUD BANG alerts every mutant in a twelve mile radius, all of which immediately hone in onto your location, and all strategy goes out the window.
From my own attempts to experiment, you cannot hide. You cannot escape. You can only kill every zombie or try to speedrun the level until you reach a barrier that requires you to pull out one of many tools from your (not diegetic) inventory and perform the ever-immersive left click to move past.
This game is a linear sequence of corridors that lead you to one encounter to the other with no meaningful way to strategize or make your way through them in your own way. Preserving ammo? If you have a melee weapon, but you probably don't. Melee weapons feel forgotten through the middle of the game, until the end when I became quite loaded on them.
Mutants will run at you and you will have to shoot them. The enemy AI is alerted to you, and it makes a beeline for you regardless of lighting, sound, or distance. Don't worry if you're trapped in a corner or they're blocking an exit; you can sprint directly through their models and they won't be able to hit you in time. Otherwise, find an open space (of which there are quite a few) and pretend you're playing CoD Zombies and train them until they die or you run out of ammo.
These on-rails, scripted moments are what killed the game for me. For me, they are too frequent, too predictable, and the opposite of dread-inducing. They're just annoying. Tedious shooting galleries that get between me and the much more enjoyable slow, meticulous room-by-room progression. It's so repetitive that it would be funny if it wasn't so disappointing. A loud crash from somewhere, your character will let out three. naughty. words. and then you will be forced to play an entirely different game until the horde is dead.
Now, I mentioned that the inventory is not diegetic. This is probably overly nitpicky, but I feel like saying it anyway. The immersive nature of this inventory is the animation that plays when you open it. Which is you taking your backpack off and looking at it. Otherwise, your inventory is a collection of floating screens. However, you need space to pull your backpack out, and the game doesn't pause. Meaning that opening your inventory is impossible if facing a prop or wall that's within a few feet of you, and it's not a good idea to do so when an inescapable and un-interactive horde of mutants is after you.
That locked door that demands thought, as mentioned in the description of the game? Here's the thought: have I alerted an enemy? Yes? do not try to open. No? Open. Otherwise, you click on the locked door and it unlocks after an animation.
Unique weapon system? Yes, sort of. The uniqueness comes from having to hold a hey to manually check your ammo. The weapons can jam. There is a setting to make it to where magazine-fed weapons will, upon reloading, drop the magazine on the ground with whatever ammo was still in it. Which you can crouch and pick back up.
Reload round by precious round? Yeah, just like every other game actually. You press the reload button and then you can stretch your fingers or exercise your wrist while an animation plays. Or you can "time" your reloads by pressing the reload button at the exact time your character places the bullet in the weapon, which will make the next bullet reload faster. You can repeat this, or you can just close your eyes and mash the reload button as hard as you can and your character will reload at Mach-5. Guess that wasn't tested.
The story? See what it says in the description? That's all you're getting.

Resources are scarce but you have no choice but to spend them when the game tells you to. You can approach situations your way by attempting to sneak but that never felt intuitive, possible, or even intended at any point beyond a single moment in the beginning of the game.
You can pretend the weapons are unique by putting in the extra effort to make the reload timing system meaningful yourself, but no effort is required. There is no health bar or Hud of any kind, but that doesn't really mean anything. The inventory didn't feel immersive, the combat didn't feel immersive, the emergent gameplay wherein you need to care about your health or ammo did not feel immersive. Because I was just too annoyed..
You will not find any unique way to approach most, if not any encounters. The goal-by-goal flow of this game is nonsense with new objectives popping up that never reflect anything intuitive or that could build upon the world or characters beyond "go to place you haven't been to." It feels like you're told where important items are through magic. In fact, you are if you use the map. You will be able to see what doors are locked before you see that they're locked. You will see where tools are before entering the room and finding the tool yourself.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tHere we have a game clearly inspired by classic horror zombie games taking a swing on its own and I have to say, I enjoyed it a lot. Guns feel decent to use, I like that some require an extra action to pump/bolt/♥♥♥♥ the relevant mechanism and the reload mechanic to make it faster via timing adds a bit of tension in close encounters. The zombies or "mutants" are varied enough for the game time you get but I wish they did more with the MUTANT name, the only unique mutation you see is the guy's who have a cleaved head and can't see anything, otherwise you just have generic zombie, faster generic zombie, big fat zombie and crawling leapy zombie. Hardly anything I'd call a "mutant" in this.
Pacing in the game feels a bit off, specifically the first zone is linear, sure you COULD back track to rooms and find little side bits but ultimately there's only 1 path, then you get to the second zone which LOOKS like its gonna open up more, your introduction to this place is being face to face with a map and several locations to check and... its still pretty linear with no choice. I think just being left on my own to figure ♥♥♥♥ out as I went around a city would've been a great direction to take this, not necessarily "open world" type stuff but an... "open environment"? of sorts.
Difficulty also felt a bit off, I immediately started on hardcore and the only issues I had were at the first zone, once I hit the second zone I started getting more ammo and weapons to deal with issues, I ended up having enough magnum ammo to clear house at the last quarter of the game without caring and I went into the ending with a full inventory of every weapon and plenty of ammo for the strong stuff, if there was a final boss he would've been deleted.
On that note there was 1 problem area in zone 2 that wasn't difficulty based, those fat zombies I mentioned? yeah they are unkillable, or at least hyper durable as an achievement i didn't get mentions killing something, and chase you quite quickly too. When I did try to kill them they just ran and the other one showed up then I saw him despawn which was apart of the chase mechanic but still. They aren't hard to kite and eventually make them lose you but their pathing is so irregular and I've had them aggro onto me from a different floor because THEY stepped on some destroyed boards from a door they broke. I think a stealth section when the game's "stealth" isn't really all that setup was probably not the play, especially with an enemy that randomly decides to just run into a different hallway or room.
