Claptrap is annoying as usual and the first boss has the most annoying "fake wrestler"/"Russian" accent I have ever heard. Not a fan of the voice acting or art style(it's atrocious). The guns have some of the worst aim and damage of any shooter I have played. The gameplay and the way the game feels is pretty good at least. If you are to buy this game then do it when it's on sale because it isn't worth full price.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I have not played Borderlands 4 yet, but the gunplay, movement, weapon variety, and build crafting here are easily the strongest the series has felt to me. Sliding and mantling make everything flow much better, the weapons are constantly throwing weird new gimmicks at you, and the skill trees give you a lot of room to experiment. The enemy variety is also pretty good, and while some bosses are great and genuinely fun to fight, others are surprisingly bad.
The side content is a bit more mixed. There are a lot of side quests, but quantity definitely does not mean quality here. A few of them were really fun, but many still felt uninspired enough that I eventually stopped doing most of them and focused on the main story instead, because the main missions were simply more entertaining. The same inconsistency applies to the writing. Borderlands has never really been a series I played for the story, outside of maybe Borderlands 2 being relatively strong within the series, so I did not expect anything incredible here either.
The bigger issue is that the villains and humor are often just bad. There are absolutely some great moments, especially the BALEX mission and the sections involving Rhys and Katagawa, which I genuinely loved. But around eighty percent of the humor feels forced. The game is constantly trying to be funny, and when every single scene wants to land a joke, it becomes exhausting pretty quickly. The villains suffer from the same problem and rarely feel threatening or interesting enough to carry the story.
One thing I really could not understand was how the player character is treated during cutscenes. You do everything during gameplay, defeat everyone, solve every problem, and then a cutscene starts and suddenly your Vault Hunter may as well not exist. Someone walks in, takes control of the situation, and you just stand there watching. It happens often enough that it becomes genuinely distracting.
Side note: Legendary drops are also far too common, which makes finding one feel much less special than it should.

On paper, Borderlands 3 should be fantastic. You have guns lots of guns. You have ridiculous enemies, colourful environments, explosions, skill trees, and enough loot to make your inventory look like the aftermath of a particularly violent yard sale.
And yet, somehow, the biggest thing I wanted to shoot by the end wasn't an enemy.
It was the skip cutscene button.
The Story Is Absolutely Painful
Let's address the biggest problem first: the story is awful.
The Calypso Twins are presented as these terrifying new villains, but instead of feeling like intimidating threats, they often feel like two obnoxious YouTubers who somehow gained access to a galactic broadcasting network.
Troy and Tyreen spend an enormous amount of time talking at you, shouting at you, livestreaming their villainy and generally making you wish your Vault Hunter could simply walk over and unplug their router.

This is especially frustrating because Amara is actually fun to play.
Amara feels powerful, satisfying and properly suited to the chaos of Borderlands. Her abilities make you feel like you're playing a ridiculous space-powered badass rather than someone who accidentally wandered into a firefight carrying a slightly better assault rifle.
The other characters, however, just didn't click with me.
Moze has a cool concept with Iron Bear, but the character can often feel like you're playing Iron Bear: The Occasional Human. There's plenty of potential there, but I never found her gameplay loop as satisfying as Amara's.
FL4K is probably the most interesting conceptually, especially with the pets, but the gameplay never quite gave me the same feeling of controlled chaos that Amara did.
And Zane...
Zane feels like Borderlands 3 looked at every possible character gimmick, threw them into a blender, and said, "Sure, that'll do."
Obviously, character preference is subjective, and different builds can completely change how each Vault Hunter feels. But for me, Amara was the only one who consistently made me think, "Yes. This is exactly how I want to play this game."
The Weirdest Part: The Game Is Still Fun
And this is where Borderlands 3 becomes difficult to review.
Because despite all of that...
It's still incredibly fun to shoot things.
The gunplay is excellent. Weapons feel satisfying, enemies explode in increasingly ridiculous ways, and there is always another piece of loot waiting around the corner.
Borderlands 3 understands the ancient gamer instinct:
"I don't need this gun, but what if the next gun is slightly better?"
So you pick it up.
Then another one drops.
Then another.
Three hours later you're standing in Sanctuary staring at your inventory wondering why you have 47 guns when you only actually use three.
The gameplay loop is basically digital hoarding with explosions.
And annoyingly, it works.
The Real Villain Is the Dialogue
Every time the gameplay starts getting really good, the game seems to remember:
"Oh ♥♥♥♥. We wrote a story."
And suddenly you're standing there listening to another conversation while your character stares blankly into the middle distance.
It's especially frustrating because the environments, shooting and loot systems are good enough to carry the game almost entirely by themselves.
I don't need a cinematic masterpiece.
I just need the game to stop interrupting me every five minutes to explain why I should care about someone I've already forgotten.

Borderlands 3 is like ordering an enormous pizza and discovering that the toppings are fantastic but someone has replaced the cheese with a three-hour podcast.
The gunplay is great, the loot system is addictive, the environments are colourful and chaotic, and Amara is an absolute blast to play.

The characters are bland and uninteresting. The story is far too long yet at the same time nearly devoid of anything noteworthy or fun whenever you are out of combat. And you're out of combat a LOT. Every single quest has at least two-thirds of its objectives such thrilling things like: "Follow," "talk to," "observe," "wait for," "go back to." God the amount of quests that boil down to "Go here, talk to this guy, listen to him talk for 90 seconds, go there, shoot some things along the way and start threatening to have a good time, follow this guy, talk to that guy, go back to sanctuary, talk to Lillith, go somewhere else, TALK TO A GUY AGAIN." It'd be better if literally anyone in this game had anything interesting to say, but they just yap and yap and say the most unfunny, millennial-ass, MCU-style reference humor for several minutes while the next objective hasn't even appeared on your map, so you can't even move and continue the game while you listen to them talk. You just have to ♥♥♥♥♥ stand there and listen.
The writing is atrocious. Maybe once, ONCE every 400 jokes something will make you chuckle, but you feel bad about it. The game demands you care about its story, demands you get emotionally invested, but it's genuinely so bad and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ melodrama completely falls flat. The writing team for this game needs to be flung into orbit.
Whenever you're in combat the game is fast and fun, but combat is so short and far, FAR too easy. There are two difficulty settings: "normal" and "easier." No hard mode at all. If you clear the main campaign, you get to do a kind of New Game+ which ups the difficulty, but demanding your players beat your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story once before telling them to go through it AGAIN so they can actually have fun this time is insane.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tSix years later I decided to review this game. Why? Well, because every time I think of the COVID-19 pandemic, I think of this game. It was released in March 2020; the very beginning of quarantine when everyone panicked and closed their doors to remain inside for weeks on end. I was in college at the time and we got sent home to complete classes online for the remainder of the spring semester. While I understand the pandemic was a terrifying experience for some to say the least, I can also respect everyone's unique experiences with it. For me personally, it was a time of bliss and fond memories. Every morning I would wake up, workout, go to my online classes, and play this game for the remainder of the day until three in the morning with my friends. That was practically all of our schedules for weeks on end as there were no outside commitments holding us back. It was awesome. The story of Borderlands 3 is honestly ass and I can barely remember any of it even after watching a story summary video. What I do remember though is the awesome typical gameplay loop of Borderlands as a “looter shooter”. At first I thought the characters you can play as were kinda lame, but they grew on me and became some of my favorites in the series.
Borderlands 3 is also the only game I can think of where I stopped playing because it was so easy that it was not fun anymore. Sometime soon after the launch, there was an event that boosted drop rates of all legendary weapons and equipment. I tried to look through the game's updates and news to find when it occurred or what it was called, but had no luck. Since my friends and I were playing practically 24/7 due to the COVID lockdown, we basically got every legendary weapon in the game including their different elemental variants in a matter of days, maybe even hours. However, there was no better weapon than The Lob: a rifle that shot a slow travelling elemental orb, killing any enemy instantly and shredding bosses like melted butter. All of our weapon slots were just different elemental variants of The Lob. Once the first DLC rolled around, we started the first mission and quit after an hour in because it wasn't a challenge at all. I'm not joking when I say everything would die in one hit with the lob and it required ZERO brain power to use.
Since then, my friends and I never returned to the game. Does that mean the game was bad? Not at all. I think we had a blast with it for what it was, though we never did get to experience the later DLC’s. Maybe it's time to travel back to experience those new additions and find the new broken gun. I haven't touched Borderlands 4 and probably won't until all the DLC has been released in a package at a discounted price similar to the Handsome Jack collection of the past. From what I have heard though it is more of the same with a slightly improved story. While Borderlands 3 is a great looter-shooter with improvements to gameplay mechanics and other systems, I don't think it beat’s Borderlands 2.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I expected Borderlands 3 to be a normal shooter game, but it blew my expectations. The looting and shooting are incredible; the game is super addicting because of the looting system rewarding you to get legendary weapons that shred enemies.
There were some problems: the story was very cringe and bad. Side missions are much better than the story, but they got repetitive near the end. Also the end game take down missions unlocked after completing the campaign are extremely difficult, I only did the Maliwan one as it was so frustrating and took me hours to complete + I checked that the guardian takedown were even more harder.

\n\n\t\t\t\tI expected Borderlands 3 to be a normal shooter game, but it blew my expectations. The looting and shooting are incredible; the game is super addicting because of the looting system rewarding you to get legendary weapons that shred enemies.
There were some problems: the story was very cringe and bad. Side missions are much better than the story, but they got repetitive near the end. Also the end game take down missions unlocked after completing the campaign are extremely difficult, I only did the Maliwan one as it was so frustrating and took me hours to complete + I checked that the guardian takedown were even more harder.
Anyways, the gameplay loop is very fun, and it's what makes this game so good.

It is not AS replay-able as BL2, but it's still a great game overall, to the point where I'd feel guilty for not leaving a good review after enjoying my solo playthrough. The story has a questionable plot, but the gameplay is still fun and I had a good amount of laugh-out-loud moments. I enjoyed seeing previous VHs return and the 4 new VHs seem likable & unique enough that I cant wait to start new playthroughs to try new builds and characters\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
