At first I thought that 20 years cycle is a little too long, but after playing the game for some time it seems to be just right. It vastly precedes all manner of personal computing and can even be broadcast via FM (which is what you get, on the radio, in your car). There are some engineering philosophies that bring stereo in toward the center to make the audio more robust across multiple devices, but I haven't heard a completely mono arrangement since 1988 at the age of 5, watching a giant radioactive 500lb TV in my Grandpa's basement. It's got a steep learning curve (I died like 5 times before I won a basic run and I have a lot of experience with turn-based strategy/deckbuilding games), but once you get the hang of it, it feels like the perfect mix of chance and strategy. The aesthetics are great, too, especially if you're tired of games that are all about fighting and weapons, and the wicked sense of humor adds some interest, too. Lastly, there is SO much to unlock and so many different combos of dragons and difficulties to keep you interested; I'm 14 hours in and still feel like I've only scratched the surface.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

yes, i know there are ways to prevent the scorching like selling certain buildings, but that is also part of RNG, have had runs where you die in the mid game and never was able to get tier 3 buildings. not to talk about recipe re-rolls.
all this seems to be a roadblock and once you unlock the deckbuilding aspect of the game seems to be where the real strategy starts. but i doubt i will keep banging my head against this game in his current state.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I spend 17 hours in this game, I finished one ordeal, easiest one I could find, from like 40... Its not like realy hard challenges for someone who want to get extra from this game, but basic unlocks.
You need too met conditions, like have build 3 buildings(late game ones that are hard to get, you need to roll them in shop) and then it gives you challenge you need to do, which you dont know beforehand even when you look into codex... So you miracuously met conditions, you are deep in late game so it is hard to feed the dragon and you need to do challenge for which you are not prepared. I met some random conditions without trying, and get to the challenge and didnt even attempt to finish it, because it was not doable in my current setup...

Only problems aree that you still rely on dice roling, which can turn nice run into nighmare when you roll really badly few season in row...
Also it isnt much balanced, some recipes are powerful that you get really easy run, some are unsuable and hard to use...
Same with dragons fury, it can be negligible, or it basically ends your run however goon you were doing, dont accept food type you are relying on too(which is necesearry in many builds), destroy building that bringed you most of score etc.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThe comparisons of Catan and Balatro are not quite right . . . this game is 90% Balatro with the board game aesthetic of Catan. There is almost nothing about Catan other than the shape of the board and that the board has numbers on it that respond to dice.
That aside, there is much to like about the game. The scaling potential in the game is pretty absurd. The potential for how to combo buildings and recipes is interesting. The game leans into the identity of there being a lot of ways to break the game, choose one and do the best you can to roll with it.
I will say that it feels like there are 2 different games going on here though. . . the core game ends after 20 years. It is well-balanced around this and the run-time and experience feels very good.

The mechanics are neat, the setting is novel, and the gameplay progression feels both polished and intuitive. Also the voice acting and art are top notch, especially with the low bar so many games set these days.
