Simple, yet surprisingly deep mechanics, a good amount of build variety, a fun progression system for unlocking the different buildings and recipes, and achievements/completion requirements that don't feel like utter bloat(I greatly appreciate not needing to beat every dragon on every difficulty to 100% complete the game).
The game certainly isn't flawless, with some buildings and recipes being pretty much useless, while others you want to find every run. But I do appreciate the difficult, with the early runs being quite easy, and insatiable runs being genuinely quite difficult if you don't know what you're doing. 9/10 game for this genre.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Just like many other similar roguelikes this game takes a known tabletop game (Settlers of Catar in this case) and puts a spin on it, making you create clever item combos to score huge numbers and meet an ever-increasing demand while adapting to constantly changing board conditions.
The presentation is top-notch, all art and music were meticulously created to fit into a fairytale-ish medieval aesthetic, every ui element clicks and clacks, dragons react to your cursor, you can even play around with some things on the board. It all gives the game an oldschool feel, in a way.
It's definitely not a shallow game too, there's a BUNCH of things to unlock, Dragons and "appetite ascensions" are pretty straighforward, but there's also a second layer to unlocks that require you to meet certain conditions in a run.

The different Dragons really change up the rules of the board, so when you think you mastered one, you are forced into another playstyle when you switch over. There are 10 levels of difficulty for each dragon. 8 dragons, which have to be unlocked and each have different variations to the mechanics. Deckbuilding, which I haven't gotten to.
