The base mechanics are simple and easy to learn, but allow for a very deep and diverse gameplay. It also has huge replayability and the battles are relatively short, so you can jump into the game at any point, complete a mission in a couple of minutes, and continue at another time. And for those with the patience and skill for planning each move carefully, the hard difficulty setting will provide a worthy challenge. The art style is also unique and was handmade by the solo developer. Overall a charming, lightweight and very interesting game that's definitely worth a buy\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I was skeptical at first. In launch week I had to buy two other games and return them before I finally dared to try Panzerdeck. My worry was that the abstraction from the collectible cards and puzzle elements would be too great to sustain the "military strategy game" immersion. I was both right and wrong. I was right that the classic feel of keeping supply routes open, commanding units and so on is barely there. But the card-collecting mechanics and the geometric puzzles more than make up for it.
Maybe I'm easily excited, but I spent the entire weekend mentally placing and rotating fuel barrels, supply crates and ammunition so that they matched the pattern on the "Heavy Tank" card, just to take out that damn Tiger. And it turns out I'm much worse at spatial reasoning than I thought. Sometimes it takes me several minutes just to work out the layout of the supplies, before I even plan how to send them to the right spots as quickly as possible.
So Panzerdeck gives me the happy-hormone rush, plus those "this time I'll get it sorted" moments. Whether you like strategy games, puzzles or collectible cards, I guarantee Panzerdeck will win you over.

There’s a lot to think about, and the arrangement of objects as well as the board itself in each mission is random, so it doesn’t get boring quickly. There are plenty of cards to unlock, and once unlocked, they stay with us permanently, even if we start the campaign from the beginning. Besides choosing new cards after completing a mission, we also have additional bonus tasks during the missions, and completing them also rewards us with new cards.
There are 12 missions divided into 4 theaters of operation, which determine the map’s appearance and thus the advantages and disadvantages of the terrain. I assume that completing all 12 missions once won’t unlock everything, but this is the kind of game you simply play rather than just finish. Overall, a very nice concept for a logic/puzzle game, and the graphic style is really beautiful.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The randomness of your starting supply locations and the cards in your hand ensure that every turn is a different puzzle, and the first two or three turns really feel like a desperate struggle to assemble some sort of force before the first enemy units reach your lines. The destruction of your supplies if they are surrounded for too long adds time pressure and I often worried a lot about running out of what I needed to build. Often the key resource holding you back is the number of manoeuvre cards in your hand - if I had any criticism, I would say that the number of turns you are allowed in each battle is slightly too high, as I didn't feel like there was much trade-off, certainly in the later missions, of drawing two new manoeuvre cards once I ran out each turn. That said, my playthrough was on Normal Mode so maybe fewer turns are available in Hard.
The cards are brilliant and all of them feel like they have disadvantages to go along with their advantages. Maybe a manoeuvre card has 4 tiles of range, but the pattern your units have to be in is awkward and so you may struggle to use it. A card may deploy a high-strength unit, but it costs a lot of supplies, or those supplies have to be arranged in a pattern that may take you many manoeuvre cards to assemble. A card may be cheap, but the unit you deploy is weak and will need reinforcement. Picking a deck before each battle feels like a dilemma, although it really helps if you check what sort of units you will come across - at least one battle was spent failing to defeat heavy tanks using infantry and machine guns, as I had left my tank destroyers at home.
Units feel balanced around each other and the terrain, and the support units are strong enough for them to feel worth using - arguably you would struggle to win if you ignored them, but I never found myself relying on using the same supports to win each battle. The different unit abilities are interesting and allow many opportunities for trying fun strategies, like digging in your force around a well-placed fortification that covers advantageous terrain. Perhaps the minefield feels a little powerful (?), but I think reducing the support range might even this out. Terrain is impactful and you are strongly incentivised to make sure your units are well-placed for both defending and attacking. Often you will have to move certain units to avoid those enemy units that can counter you, i.e. keeping your artillery away from mechanised infantry is essential.
Overall, the game requires thought and lots of difficult decision making - it feels a bit like Into The Breach in this regard, although on the whole is a lot less punishing of mistakes. I have beat the game on normal difficulty in about 3.5 hours, although I had a few hours practice playing the demo pre-release. I will definitely be playing the campaign on Hard mode to see how the difficulty changes things. I would wholeheartedly recommend playing and I hope that the game continues to be updated with more missions - perhaps longer missions with more enemy units or with more complex terrain to work around?\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Panzer Deck is a clever little indie that feels fresh. It takes the idea of a turn-based WWII tactics game and mixes in geometric puzzle cards so you’re constantly looking for patterns on the map to recruit units, reposition them, and set up stronger attacks. Spotting the right shape of resources to call in a Sherman or shift your infantry into better terrain is genuinely satisfying.
The hand-drawn art has real personality — gritty and comic-book-like without feeling cheap — and the units have distinct roles beyond pure stats. Sessions stay focused because battles are relatively short, yet there’s enough deck customization and scenario variety to keep things interesting across the campaign. It's impressive for a solo-developed project as it punches above its weight in polish and originality.

You can play it as a series of tactical matches with random cards, or you can go for strategy determined build deck.
