Its warm lighting, rich colour palette and finely detailed environments bring the Wyoming wilderness to life, and the unhurried pace invites you to linger in it rather than rush through. The voice acting is the standout. Henry and Delilah's radio exchanges feel natural and believable, and the dialogue choices let you shape a relationship that feels like your own. The gameplay is deliberately modest, built around exploration, navigation and interaction. That restraint is its strength, because nothing competes with the characters or the mystery that slowly unfolds around them. The blend of exploration, conversation and slow-burning storytelling held my attention from start to finish. For anyone seeking a short, emotional and memorable experience, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This game has very pretty visuals and an interesting unique art style, the games plot progresses quite intriguingly and makes you forget you are playing a walking sim at times. As the story progresses the plot weakens, instead of "thickens" and presents a very anticlimactic ending. Gameplay wise it can get frustrating as this game has terrible mechanics and lacks any "theory of affordances" surrounding the inconsistent interactions with its surroundings. Finally, the characters don't really develop into much, like the plot itself. They have a few interesting moments, but nothing too memorable to be emotionally invested in.
Honestly, this whole game could've had so much more potential if it weren't for the mediocre ending and fumbled plot progression, it genuinely feels unfinished and rushed.

Afterwards, things begin to become strange and you end up having to work out what's really going on there. I quite enjoyed the way the mystery developed gradually since it made you start making connections and begin to think that there must be something much larger going on.
I believe it is in the conclusion that the game actually makes its main point. Since you spend such a large part of the game becoming absorbed in the mystery, it's easy to forget why Henry was even out here in the first place. There isn't instead some grand conspiracy or a perfectly clear explanation for you to discover. The focus is rather on Henry using this place as a means of escaping from his actual life and having to come to terms with the fact that he can't remain there indefinitely. I found that message to be very good and it made the ending have a different impact on me.
The music is also very good and matches the game well. I probably prefer the landscapes too. The entire forest has a pretty pleasant atmosphere, and it never grew boring just to walk about and enjoy the views.

The game is very relaxing, and it never really gets stressful or hectic. However, it's also a bit short. You have a certain amount of freedom of movement, though this is limited to the areas relevant to the story. You spend a great deal of time walking, which isn't a problem given the beautiful scenery. I love it on what I call the "unknown side," when there are still many possibilities for what the answer to everything actually is. The mystery, the not knowing, creates the best atmosphere and is when the story feels the most gripping.
But when the reveal arrives, it can be so disappointing that it ♥♥♥♥♥ on the entire story.
I usually have this problem with stories that seem supernatural, where there is an entire exploration and debate over whether something supernatural is actually going on. And then, in the end... it turns out the supernatural really does exist! That's the recipe for a story I'll 100% hate and call ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, albeit purely because of personal preference. If you don't establish that your story is fantastical, or that fantastical elements are genuinely possible within its world, don't make that the big reveal!
All of this is to say that Firewatch indeed has a mystery narrative, and many times I feared it would disappoint me, especially with the larger conspiracy surrounding the story.
But the reveal, which I won't spoil, is so human. So anticlimactic. So soul-shatteringly real. It breaks you. And I absolutely applaud the narrative for that.
Firewatch understands something about mystery that I think a lot of stories get wrong: Sometimes the answer doesn't need to be bigger than the mystery. Sometimes reality is more devastating precisely because it isn't supernatural, conspiratorial, or fantastical. The mystery works because of all the possibilities you imagine while you're still on the "unknown side." And when the truth finally arrives, it feels painfully human.
It is true that this is a walking sim. Don't expect much "game" beyond an interactive, roughly three-hour story where you walk around, explore, and occasionally get lost for a while. But I bought this game because I knew I needed exactly that: solitude, walking around in nature, and a quiet place to exist for a few hours.
The game provides that beautifully, with gorgeous scenery and an environment that makes the story hit even harder. Especially at the point in life I'm currently in, and with the feelings I've been grappling with during this time, that aspect of the game hit me much harder than I expected.
So I think I'll review Firewatch less as a game and more as a piece of writing. And as a piece of writing, I applaud it. Standing ovation.

Firewatch is a nice cozy game with a nice story you can just sit back and play the environment is really nice with a nice soundtrack to go with it achievements wise its not that hard to get and not that long of a game all the achievements are pretty straight forward and just require you to roam around some and you can pick up most of them in free roam after beating the game. If you are looking for a nice cozy story game to sit back relax and 100% you will like this game it's not hard and its a chill game it took me about 5 hours to 100% so it doesn't take that long and you can do it in less time if you wanted to. Would I pay full price for this game? \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tReplayed this game again recently to 100% the achievements because I missed the Shoshone tape earlier. This game is an amazing gem that I'll continue to think back on fondly. The story is engaging with an unexpected, and sad, plot twist. I know a number of people have finished the game wanting there to be a more conclusive ending, but I personally believe that's just one of the other ways the game attempts to craft a realistic story. As in daily life, we don't always know what the ending of something is and may never know. Overall, 10/10 game, would highly recommend. It's a fun ~4 hour game to play through to relax and enjoy.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

i went into this game hoping to finish it with some life-changing message or wisdom, which even though i didnt get, it was still a really good game / experience and i genuinely enjoyed this game a lot until the very late part of the game, and to be very specific when the cassette tape reveals ned did everything. i feel like before that was revealed, the game was really enjoyable and i was really eager to know what was going on and everything and it was hinting to all these different things but then when the big reveal happens i was just kinda like "wut? thats it?"
like many others, i think the ending and later part of the game was really lackluster, and a lot of people believe this is intentional but even the meaning the ending is "supposed" to portray didnt really hit for me and i think thats partly because its not really obvious (at least to me) its an intentional ending so you dont understand it in the moment. the ending of the game also doesnt really seem intentional to me but more kind of randomly thrown together BUT "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", so maybe its not the games fault but mine. lots of other people think the ending is good and can find meaning from it so i think its really just up to who plays it. i guess the ending isnt really ass, its more just subjective?
id recommend buying this game if ur a bit bored and want something kind of casual and short and sweet to play because it is a walking sim. if u dont like walking sims, u probably wont like this game and its really odd that people complain about this in the reviews when its literally in the game tags and its what the genre is. personally, i didnt find it boring.
