They drop an update almost every Thursday with QoL and overall game improvements, continually refining an already enjoyable game. They also have an extremely enthusiastic Discord community, with a suggestions section where people can share ways the game could potentially be improved.\n\nThe Game Loop:\nYou, either by yourself or in a lobby with up to 7 other people, are Storm Chasers, and your van breaks down in the middle of a town. From here, you have around 20 minutes to scavenge the parts you need to repair your van, repair it, and locate APEX documentation before the entire town is destroyed by an EF5 tornado.\nThe APEX items aren't necessary to survive, but you get a hefty chunk of experience for collecting them.\nAlong with the threat of tornadoes coming to get you, there can also be status storms bringing acid rain, hail, and lightning. It will only ever be one variety per level, but these massively affect the way you play.\nTo do any degree of repairing, you'll need to complete a minigame, which also increases in difficulty with the difficulty of the level itself.\nWhile you're in-game, you can also collect APEX coins, which enable you to use the vending machine in the van to purchase various healing/energy restoration items, along with items to assist in your scavenging, such as umbrellas and crowbars. These coins don't carry over and are for that game only, but even so, they can be the difference between life and death on the harder difficulties.\n\nThe Progression System/Unlocks:\nAs you level up, you gain access to the harder difficulties. I think it was level 10 for Hard Mode and level 20 for Nightmare.\nWhile levelling, you also unlock colours for the Default Outfit and are given a different Storm Chasing title.\nThere are special challenges to unlock each of the alternate outfits, which all have their own individual perks: The Lawkeeper (a sheriff), The Lifeline (search and rescue), and The First Ember (a firefighter).\nThere are also a bunch of achievements in this game, and it's pretty easy to 100% these currently.\n\nThe Current Map:\nYes, there is only one map currently, but it is randomised each time you play, so the houses, POIs, and items are all randomised.\nThe locations where the items appear do tend to remain the same currently, so you can get very used to where items tend to spawn in each location.\nThe item randomisation does tend to pick between a handful of items each time, so there is a high probability of finding healing items in bathrooms, defibs in master bedrooms, and at least one van repair item in a garage.\n\nMy Only Issues:\nMy first minor issue with the game is the status weather conditions.\nWith Hard Mode or above, you are guaranteed to have a status, and, bar the lightning storm, the other two can be literal run killers.\nIf it is Acid Rain or Hail on a Hard or above difficulty and you start without an umbrella in the van or in a nearby house, you are pretty much guaranteed to lose.\nWith these status conditions on Hard Mode, you can make it to pretty much 2–3 houses at most, depending on the healing supplies you find.\nEven with a team behind you trying to defib you, so much time is spent resurrecting the team that fixing the van becomes an afterthought.\nEven a minor damage nerf would make it seem a lot more fair.\n\nMy second issue is with doors. Some corridors and areas of houses are quite narrow, so when you open a door into one, you need to wait for the door to close before you can get past it and into the next room. It's not a massive hassle, but after doing this a couple of times along the same corridor, it can start to get a little annoying.\nJust a mechanic that allows you to push past these open doors would be nice.\n\nTop Tips:\n*The amount of repairs needed scales with the number of people you have in the party, so the larger the lobby, the more repairs the van needs.\n*You cannot win if you don't get out of the van. Yes it can be helpful to navigate people over the walkie talkie if they are lost, but staying in there will make it harder on the rest of the lobby.\n*If you hear a sound akin to someone having kicked a bee hive, start looking for shelter, a tornado is starting to spawn. \n*Use your Walkie Talkie. Make sure it's kept on and tell your team what you've picked up. If someone doesn't respond, they might need to be defibbed, so you can check your Doppler/monitors.\n*Don't just check the inside of houses. There is a ton of stuff outside, next to cars in the street, and usually at least one item in the back gardens of houses.\n*Crouch if you feel yourself being pulled towards a tornado. Yes I know it might feel counter intuitive as running away seems the best move, but it will give you extra time to get away...at least as long as the tornado isn't following your path.\n*Adjust your sound settings. The sound settings are all pretty high, to the point of realism, but if you like to hear the people in your game or you happen to stream, these can be exceptionally loud. I would recommend the following:-\n+ Master Volume 100%\n+ Music Volume 50%\n+ Sound Effects Volume 50%\n+ Weather Effects Volume 20%\n+ User Interface Volume 50%\n+ Tornado Volume 10%\n+ Cutscene Volume 50%\n\nThe Future:\nThere is going to be a big update on the 26th of October for the new biome, which means there will be two maps.\nThe new map promises to bring its own challenges, unique tornadoes, and substantially less shelter.\n\nOverall, I genuinely think this game deserves more attention. It's still in Early Access, so obviously there are things that can be improved, but the developers clearly care about the game and are actively working on it.\nAs a fan of the genre, I also feel it stands on its own when it comes to co-op survival games, as there are surprisingly few that aren't heavily horror-focused. Often you find spark plugs in children's bedrooms or tools in the kitchen instead of where you'd expect - I suppose that's part of the thrill being unable to find what you need and maybe it would be too predictable if everything was just in the garage.\n\nI also thought maybe you'd be able to take them from a vehicle on the street or in the garage, but there was no interaction with other vehicles. \n\nTurning the CRT effect to 0% didn't actually fully remove it, which was a bit annoying.\n\nEdit: adding this feedback after playing some more, there's too many piles of \"Apex tokens\" around that are distracting from finding the actual items we need. This game should be in that category. There is going to be criticism because the game is only one level currently. But it brings a lot of fresh ideas to the table. This game is super fun with friends, but lacks content. It has a lot of potential, but needs better graphics, more objectives, rescuing people, clean up the button response, etc. For all it needs for improvements though,  the game does a good job of immersing you into what it would be like if you were in the midst of a tornado. The sound design is awesome. I found myself trapped in house yelling to communicate to my friends were my location was over the sound of a tornado as it ripped the roof off the house. We had a blast rooting through houses trying to find key items, and then trying to make it back to the truck to fix it in time, before the big F5 tornado comes through and destroys the entire town. We found ourselves quoting the movie twister through the play through. The devs have a great start here and the game has so much potential and is unlike anything we have played on steam. I think it's not even that the gameplay should be significantly changed as it can be fun but the fact there's no progression is what turned me off it.\n\nLike, dying vs surviving doesn't really matter. The only change is how fast you level up, but you can still level up while dying every run if you do enough which means you can buy more from the vending machine or get the skins. But beyond that it's a fresh start every time, like playing the same level over and over.\n\nI'm sure the game is better with others, I was only playing solo.
