The slow build up with the music progressively building up, the meeting with quirrel on the bench as you watch the rain fall. All building up to descending the elevator to the outside and the main chorus starts to play. 10 out of 10 I'm a little disappointed i wont get something like that ever again, but i am glad this game gave me such a unique feeling. Truly a masterpiece.

Art style, music, and sound design is awesome. As you can see have only played for 6 hours so a lot can change, but I assume it'll only be for the better (get more abilities, more exploration, etc.) so feel confident leaving a review now.
Highly recommend! The ONLY gripe I have so far, and this is probably just because of being completely new to the genre, is the backtracking you have to do. Lots of different paths to take, so you do have to go down one, and oftentimes it eventually ends and then you have to backtrack to the junction and go down the next path. It's not unrewarding though, you still get stuff from going down every path, and I'm getting used to how it works now.
Update after finishing the main story: THIS GAME WAS SO FUN LMAO! Like seriously, perfect amount of being challenging enough without being a rage-fest, you get more and more game mechanics as you progress which are all awesome, and just generally such a good game and the story was even pretty good, plus the exploration did actually start growing on me a lot more than I thought it would. \t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I believe the game's difficulty is for everyone. It has a low skill floor and an immensely high skill celing. The speedruns, self imposed runs, game's own challenges, they all showcase just how deep the combat system can go.
Difficulty is highly subjective but I don't think it requires much to simply beat the game considering I was able to pick & play and do all its crazy challenges without any prior experience with a metroidvania, platformer (except Celeste) or even a sidescrolling real time combat system. But ofc, the deeper you go, the more it demands.
The story is vague and mysterious and you will likely have to use interjection to fill in the gaps, which depending on the people can either be annoying or (for me) empowering. The game doesn't hand you much in a silver platter, you have to work for its story and so much can be found & gleaned from the unlikeliest of places, hidden in secrets within secrets.
The great part is that the story that is here, it's all purposeful. It is not a mystery for the sake of it, There is enough intentionality put in that you won't feel the game is spiraling nowhere. I am in love with its story, characters, the setting and the presentation. You may not always know what's going on, in fact you may not know much in your first playthrough at all but you will feel the significance of your actions even if you don't grasp them.
I do not know much about music so all I can really say is that it's also some of the best I've heard. It's mostly sampled but still hits a very high quality bar. Highly melodic which I am all for and is key to the game's atmosphere. Even the sfx holds no punches. So many little actions, events have little sound cues, music stingers attached to them, it makes the world feel so tightly wrapped.
So much more I could say but for the sake of brevity I'll just wrap up by saying this game gets so much right. I can give it the highest honor I give to any game by calling it a masterpiece. I was just in the mood for some good ol metroidvania and this game is one of the most amazing metroidvania experience i ever had. What started as cute "little" game about bugs evolved in smth more that meets the eye at first glance. As a metroidvania I dont belive it gets better then this, I found myself constantly exploring area finding little secrets and side areas with items, exploration felt rewarding I wanted to explore everything out of my own curiocity, not lots of game can make me do that. I love how u cant teleport or fast travel right away, that makes u consider how u will move around and appreciate the Stag stations even more.
Combat and bosses are top lvl as well. The combat feels simple yet in this simplicty u have freedom to explore diff ways and styles to fight. U can dodge more throu enemies, pogo on them, the game doesnt hold ur hands on what to do, which is great. Only critic on bosses will be that some felt slighty too ez or too gimiky, but if somone looking for a challange they can find it in the "Godmaster" expansion, which brings me...
The game also have 4 free expansions, that add really cool bosses, personal fav is Grimm. And for the price I was able to get around 53 hours of content out of it, most modern AAA games barely have 10 hours.
The ost is 10/10 found myself listening to it even when not playing the game.
This game is 11/10 I wish I can be able to erasae my memory and play it again...
And the Radiance fight and the(imo good) ending are just... so climatic, u defeat "The Hollow knight" and then boom u fight the radiance and then slap him to death...\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Everything about this game is phenomenal*, if you're a veteran or even a new fan of indie/platformer games I couldn't recommend HK any more. Looking forward to Silksong 👀

Every death teaches you something, and every successful attempt feels earned. Definitely the hardest game I've ever played. But. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. The designs are excellent. The music is great. The characters are great. The mechanics all had a purpose even in combat. They were really good. I can't fault this game on anything that comes to mind. This game is definitely beatable but it requires patience. Made by Aussie devs which is awesome! I recommend Hollow Knight. It's not always hard and there are plenty of benches/hot springs around. And you get a second chance to regain your geo. Somehow, it never felt like I was replaying the game. I enjoyed it just as much, and exploring the world again was still an amazing experience.
The combat is incredible, and every boss has its own unique idea and fighting style. The boss fights are genuinely fun, and even the regular enemies have a lot of variety. Every area also feels completely different, with its own theme, atmosphere, and identity.
I also love how many Charms there are. They let you customize your build and play in whatever style suits you. The exploration is one of the best parts of the game too. It was amazing on my first playthrough, and somehow still just as enjoyable the second time.
Another thing I really liked is that some bosses can be fought again in the Dream Realm after defeating them, with stronger versions that make the fights even more challenging and fun.
And if you feel like you haven’t had enough challenges and want something even bigger, you can take on the Pantheons and fight a huge number of bosses back to back. It’s difficult, but also unbelievably fun. The challenge is insane, but the feeling of making progress through it is even better.
The story is also really good if you actually take the time to look into it and understand what is happening beneath the surface. There is a lot more to it than what you see at first.
And the final boss… probably the hardest boss in the game for me, but also one of the most enjoyable boss fights I’ve ever experienced in gaming.
