Driving is somewhat enjoyable once you get used to the fairly realistic controls, but combat is far too simple and regularly glitches around… it’s just not exciting!

Missions repeat far too often (sometimes 1:1!). You do the exact same thing, in the exact same place, with the exact same sequence—that’s just lazy from the developers and unacceptable in a game that’s fundamentally built on repetition.
Even worse, some missions completely bug out and nothing works anymore.
Chapter 12 of the story missions is still bugged to this day (5 months after release) and cannot be finished because very basic triggers don’t fire, so the game simply doesn’t progress.
How the developers haven’t fixed this until now is a real mystery to me.
Workaround for the broken mission
The solution to the problem: You must NOT start the mission at midday! It has to be at least evening; only then does the cutscene trigger.
This is an issue the devs could have easily fixed, especially since this kind of restriction already exists for regular missions.
Story and characters
The story just drifts along and is also far too short! There’s a single plot twist, and you can see it coming from miles away.
The sister barely shows up, even though she more or less calls you. Beyond lines like “Remember when we used to fart in each other’s faces?” nothing really comes of it—she stays just as bland as all the other (handful of) characters.

Whenever there’s a mission to kill 11 people, the last guy often fails to spawn, forcing you to restart the mission. Plus, there are some really stupid bugs.
At one point, I saw a mobster with a nice blue car and wanted to ram it, but an NPC slammed into my vehicle and sent me flying off the map!
Or when you're fighting people—they suddenly vanish and then reappear right in your face.
It’s impossible to play this game.

I wasn't expecting anything super big budget or groundbreaking, but between the studio's Avalanche DNA and the lack of modern open world crime games I was honestly expecting more from Samson.
I ended up giving the game another shot with its recent 50% off sale, and I'm really glad I did. Combat feels better, the performance is solid, and the more time I spend playing the more I am able to appreciate the features Liquid Swords have chosen to prioritize with their smaller AA game budget. Driving, car combat, and general navigation of the cramped urban setting feels excellent. POIs and NPCs that flesh out the city and its history are abundant. Even combat can feel really good when the ragdoll physics and environmental hazards come together. The voice acting for main characters and random NPCs is solid, and the soundtrack/ city ambiance works great to make you feel like the city is alive around you. I'm not far into the story, but what I've seen hasn't raised any red flags. It's an action thriller about paying off your debts and surviving a dangerous city. I'm not expecting the story to deviate far from that core concept, and that's perfectly fine with me.
For 12.50 Samson is a steal, but after all of the recent updates I think the game is also worth grabbing for full price. Major props to the devs for the improvements and content they've been consistently churning out.

But this game is beyond fixable.
I really love the ideas and the thoughts behind it, but the way they were executed is the reason this game is worse than Gollum. I’d probably love this game if I had never played it, because the screenshots and description tick pretty much every box for my taste.
But once I launch the game, every single pixel and every single button press clearly shows me how poorly this game was made.
Do not play this game.

What is a charm at first turns into a technical handicap. Missions will fail for the jankiest reason. The combat is janky and repetitive and the missions are just rinse and repeat. My car gets damaged so much with the takedown missions and ♥♥♥♥ driving controls that I basically make no money since I have to repair it all the time, which in turn makes upgrading it a pain in the neck. Some of the beatdown missions feel almost impossible with the amount of people you have to fight at once. There is so much potential here and I want to see it improve but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, so much stuff needs amending.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There's really only two things here, fighting and driving.
- Driving is a slog because there's MASSIVE latency on the steering, it feels like they tried to do GTA 4 driving by making your inputs feel slow rather than giving cars actual weight. It completely kills the feel of it and you'll want to get out of the car as soon as you can.
- Combat is completely broken. Not like "oh it's unbalanced", not like "It's janky". It's b r o k e n, as in it doesn't function.
Animations stop, start and skip randomly.
Your inputs get ignored, most of the time.
Damage isn't dealt, is inconsistent, or is dealt instantly with a skipped animation
You'll constantly be staggered from animations that just started
You don't counter by pressing the counter button when an enemy hits you, but when his animation *starts*
Everybody will fall over and/or instantly die from the tiniest physics object they walk into.
You can't hit anybody during an enemy's staggering animation, which means there's no reason to stagger them
Subsequent dodges will leave you stuck in place
Adrenaline rush/corny hulk rage will win the game for you, and is constantly given to you.
There's so many more problems with it, but no way to actually communicate how horrible it feels to fight in this fighting game, if you're curious, do yourself a favor, buy the game, try the combat, and refund as fast as possible. The driving feels solid and something about the AP system is neat too but not perfect by any means. For me the only thing this game needs is a way better feeling combat system (my god is it janky and dull), a better perk/skill tree, a bigger map/ things to do in the open world, and a bit of big fixes. A lot of missions I had to abort and try again (wasting an AP) due to a bugged out NPC or something similar.
Would love to see a more expanded and polished version of this type of game. 7/10 for the 10 bucks I paid while on sale.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
