\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI don't understand how the game can feel so clunky. I think the game looks great, but navigation and moving your character feels so awkward. There are many games in this genre that have been released and one of the first games I played when I was a child was Harvest Moon on SNES. The Story of Seasons franchise has movement down-packed with minimal issues. I'm unsure why the creators don't follow the same standard and release a game of the same quality. I've been hoping of a new Harvest Moon to come out and surprise me with its quality, but this is basically the same quality in comparison to the last few years.
I will continue to provide updates as I play through the title. If there are any updates that correct any of these issues, I will be sure to provide them. Also, my desktop runs the game fine with no issues, but this game makes my laptop sound like a jet engine. That makes me believe something is going on in the background that isn't visible to the user, even though resource usage seems fine.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tControls are very clunky, crouching doesn't work properly, only works if you crouch in a straight line. when walking and turning your camera at the same time, the character stops moving? It's very jittery, and kinda annoying. Navigating the menu is absolute hell, and super sensitive, to the point where I struggle to pick options in the menu. You don't start off having a mailbox, not sure if this changes. ALSO you can't jump? After playing SoS Grand Bazaar, and being able to jump and glide places, the fact that you can jump in this game, but only on spots that have a red pole??? I'm not sure why they couldn't just let is jump. We can crouch but not jump????
The game is really pretty, I love how there is more detail in the sky, village, grass textures etc. Music is great too, it does feel more open world, so I will update my review as time goes on. I would buy it on sale only.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Unfortunately, XSeedgame are doing it better with their Story of Seasons games (from personal taste). I'm also sharing the same opinion as many others, the controls feels clunky the movement feels very awkward :/

I didn't think much of Echoes of Teradea, and found enough to dislike that I'm not going to continue playing as it managed to chisel away my goodwill and optimism in under four hours. Impressive, considering I love this type of game. Usually.
I don't need to see my character eat breakfast every day.
Conversations are painfully slow, as the character emotes play out in full. Press A all you want, it ain't moving on till it's ready.
Sneaking, as you would expect, is slower than walking, but required to get past wild animals, and if they see you, forget about it. You get "intimidated", which drains your stamina.
It also takes stamina to run, so bring a whole lot of food if you want to get much done in a day.
Unskippable cutscenes. That should just never happen in any game.

\n\n\t\t\t\tI didn't think much of Echoes of Teradea, and found enough to dislike that I'm not going to continue playing as it managed to chisel away my goodwill and optimism in under four hours. Impressive, considering I love this type of game. Usually.
I don't need to see my character eat breakfast every day.
Conversations are painfully slow, as the character emotes play out in full. Press A all you want, it ain't moving on till it's ready.
Sneaking, as you would expect, is slower than walking, but required to get past wild animals, and if they see you, forget about it. You get "intimidated", which drains your stamina.
It also takes stamina to run, so bring a whole lot of food if you want to get much done in a day.
Unskippable cutscenes. That should just never happen in any game.

But they seem to have a point with it, such as you aren't "supposed to" be at some places until they want you to. So I guess, sure.. But I 'd rather want jumping at free will.
I was kind of surprised how many features aren't well disclosed, I may be slow, but I found the button (press and hold RS) to stash everything into a storage very useful. They seem to have put a lot of effort into making good quality of life stuff. You don't have to switch from say, pickaxe, to axe, to watering can, it automatically switches to what is usable. So that's nice, especially when there isn't a keyboard to easily press 1-8 to switch tools.
I like that you can tame a variety of wildlife such as wolves, bunnies and regional specific wildlife, and they all have different skills that can help you in some way! Some more useful than the some and they can learn skills from each other, but perhaps that's a spoiler to expand on that? My biggest issue is I can't fit them all in my house.
The map is enormous (not at start) but as you unlock and progress it gets bigger and bigger so it's preferred to have a horse (you don't even have to buy one). You can also pick up mushrooms and whatever from the ground while you are mounted, very nice. It saves time as the map expands.
Anyway, I don't want to spoil for people who want to give this game a try, but know that the game takes a few in game days to pop off.

- There has been absolutely nothing about the controls or camera that feels clunky or felt off or bad in ANY way. I tried this out a lot just to see if I should just refund but NOPE, no issues. It feels smooth.
The only thing I changed in the settings was the camera-speed to max because that felt a bit slow.
If anything, I was surprised. To be able to strafe while doing chores and hold in the button instead of clicking for every plot, I really like it.
- As far as I know, only dashing (running faster) will drain stamina. The normal movement speed doesn't feel slow, so I don't even dash.
- If you want the chats with villagers to go faster, all you gotta do is hold down the button X or A depending on what kind of controller you have, and it will turbo through them. With the exception of their expressions after certain sentences, like gasping, laughing, looking scared.. you get it.
I really can't say much about this game so far as I also have little playtime,

So, if you liked Harvest Moon: Winds of Anthos, this game has the same open world system and engine. The game is very pretty, detailed, and feels a little less empty than Anthos. They definitely filled in the world with more flora and different terrain to make it less flat and barren. The farm animals and pets/wild animals are adorable and plentiful throughout the land. The map is massive, just like Anthos, but it doesn't feel like it's taking years to get through sections because, as mentioned before, there's a lot more flora and beauty to experience. The characters are friendly, charming, and engaging. I feel a bit more attentive when conversations are happening because there's multiple dialogue selections at times. The characters/townsfolk are all very sweet from who I've met so far! And for a prologue, they do a pretty dang good job pacing it out so that it's neither a slog nor something that just throws you in and expects you to know everything (you can skip the tutorials if you want though!).
Now, for the things I'll nitpick. Why does the stamina system still SUCK SO MUCH?? I get it. A lot of farming/crafting games have a stamina system, but I can at least get through an entire day without needing to worry much unless I'm grinding farming/fishing/mining/combat. Thought Natsume would learn from Anthos being almost unplayable from running across town or smacking a rock and OOPS half your stamina is already gone gg loser go shove some mushrooms and beets in your face to recover every 2 minutes. It's frustrating, especially because the map is stupidly big (in a good way this time) and they expect you to just be okay scrambling to make food (since resources are quite limited at the beginning of the game) or skipping half the day because you've no other choice but to sleep. The other thing I'll prod at is I wish time didn't go as fast as it does. A minute passes in game for every real life second passing, and since there's so much to do, so many people to talk to, so much to tend to on the farm and in the wild, etc. it feels like a waste of a game day sometimes with everything I expected to work on.
For all the reviews saying that this game is clunky and unplayable: I did not have that experience at all. For reference, I'm using a PS5 controller. The camera is fine. The movement is fluid. I did have to blast my camera sensitivity to max, but it works and I haven't had an issue at all. My crouch works. Strafing works perfectly for me (very sick and helpful as well). The only jank I've seen (twice) is a character's movement path being a little messed up in a cutscene, but it's very quick that you almost don't notice it.

The camera is slow and clunky, and you can't jump. I will try this on my steam deck, but if I am still having these issues, I am returning it.
EDIT: Got past at least the beginning issue by playing on the Steam Deck, but I should not have to do that. The game should not require a controller if it is not fully compatible, not to mention other issues that have continued, and others that have popped up. Random freezes, stuttery camera, etc.

As for the stamina thing that everyone complains about: it doesn't bother me much. There are plenty of mushrooms that you can forage and cook into meals that you can use for replenishing your stamina.
The farming in this game works similary to their previous titles, so if you have enjoyed that part previously (like I have) then you'll probably enjoy that aspect.
For representation, I think they have improved. The world has more detail compared to Anthos, so it's more fun to explore. And in cutscenes they play around with the camera and framing quite a bit - it makes the cutscenes more interesting to watch.
All in all, I'm having fun playing this. I did assume that I would, since I enjoyed playing Winds of Anthos (their previous game that is quite similar to this), so no suprise for me there. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tSo far, I haven’t had any of the controller or movement issues on the Steamdeck; it does seem to be performing well. I’d honestly rate this so far out 6/10. That said, my full review is below:
Pros:
+ farming is the same as the previous games
+ seems like material costs to make farm items like wood and stone was lowered; I really appreciate that
+ No Doc character in game except via a tablet interface AI. Trust me, that’s an improvement.
+ Gold sprite perks widely expanded (farm boost powers, stamina boosts, other skill perks like fishing). Definitely an appreciated overhaul
+ You basically get “happy power” to raise in each town you unlock, and it seems silly but it works for the world and plays into the old discover-and-unlock system for new towns and people.
+ you get 4 farm plots of varying sizes and a tree plot right away. You don’t have to pay for your initial barn. You unlock new farms in each village for free (so far at least). And I like free.
+ gameplay loop is pretty simple: farm, do fetch quests, explore/gather/fish
+ camping feature so you don’t have to rush home by midnight every nice. And it’s free once you get the tent.
Neutrals:
~ puzzles to get gold sprites. It’s neutral because the puzzles come with no guide or clues, and I still cannot figure some of them out. Some players might like this, but not me, not in a cozy game.
~ fishing is basically drag and fight the fish. It’s a small mini-game, not too hard, but I would rather have one click over messing with constant tap and release. Just my preference
~ I haven’t met all the LIs yet, but the ones so far seem pleasant, nothing to write home about, but okay. One did give me free fishing bait and another a free cow, so I guess beggars shouldn’t be choosers.
~ money isn’t super easy to earn, but not too challenging once you get into a rhythm (gathering foragables is my big one). Occasionally you can find harvest coins you can sell for big money. But getting money to start with can feel more challenging to get everything you need to get set up.
Cons:
- no accessibility toggles for fishing, day speed, etc. this just feels like it should be a basic option for players to me, for accessibility and coziness
- hairstyles and outfits are gender locked. In this day and age, that’s just silly. Also, only 4 default hairstyles (a ponytail, twin braids, a short hair, a medium hair). No curls, no POC hair, no other variety. That’s just…unacceptable from a big studio
- the outfits you can buy are just recolors so far, yet take a decent amount of wool and rare flowers. Why? Recolors should be cheap/easy to get; new outfits harder. And why can’t we pick between the recolors at character creation?
- no glasses options (so far at least). For some reason?? No other accessories either.
- why can’t we jump in a game full of ledges, cliffs, and other barriers all over the towns and landscapes? I keep having to take the long way around buildings and it’s very annoying
- seed sprites are more spread out and harder to find than previous games. I don’t understand this change
- why are wild animals charging you and making you faint and lose stuff? This is unnecessarily punitive for a farming game
- the mines got nerfed. Less ore, and now the wild animals can attack you in them. Nope. Don’t like that
- I wish the basic NPCs had a little info on their character cards, even if it’s just “So-and-so runs the general store. Xx’s wife. Has a cute daughter, YY.” Minor gripe tho as this is par for the course for HM series these days.
The game has potential, but I would probably not recommend it as it is unless it’s on sale, honestly. $50 is steep for what we’re getting. Overall I would recommend it, but more at the $30ish price tag unless you’re deeply committed to the HM series.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

- hairstyles and outfits are gender locked. In this day and age, that’s just silly. Also, only 4 default hairstyles (a ponytail, twin braids, a short hair, a medium hair). No curls, no POC hair, no other variety. That’s just…unacceptable from a big studio
- the outfits you can buy are just recolors so far, yet take a decent amount of wool and rare flowers. Why? Recolors should be cheap/easy to get; new outfits harder. And why can’t we pick between the recolors at character creation?
- no glasses options (so far at least). For some reason?? No other accessories either.
- why can’t we jump in a game full of ledges, cliffs, and other barriers all over the towns and landscapes? I keep having to take the long way around buildings and it’s very annoying
- seed sprites are more spread out and harder to find than previous games. I don’t understand this change
- why are wild animals charging you and making you faint and lose stuff? This is unnecessarily punitive for a farming game
- the mines got nerfed. Less ore, and now the wild animals can attack you in them. Nope. Don’t like that
- I wish the basic NPCs had a little info on their character cards, even if it’s just “So-and-so runs the general store. Xx’s wife. Has a cute daughter, YY.” Minor gripe tho as this is par for the course for HM series these days.
The game has potential, but I would probably not recommend it as it is unless it’s on sale, honestly. $50 is steep for what we’re getting. Overall I would recommend it, but more at the $30ish price tag unless you’re deeply committed to the HM series.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I finished chapter 1 and I really enjoy the farming aspect and caring for animals as always, but also the exploration, I think the world looks very beautiful and atmospheric and enjoy going out and looking at different parts o the map!
Yes animals do attack you, but honestly, it's not like you die. You can sneak past or offer a berry or food and run past. I think it gives the exploration a bit of challenge and honestly enjoying it so far.
I'm not aiming like others to rush through the game and get it completed quickly, I am enjoying every second and minute of the game and enjoying the npcs much more than winds of anthos or others.
I mainly like this one than Bazaar because they characters look a little more mature than little children and also your pets follow you which I always wanted in a farming game! A friend to adventure with by my side!

Can't move character and camera at the same time without my character stop and going like she's having a seizure.. No, it is not my controller as the controller works perfectly with every other game I have, including other harvest moon games. Hopefully they fix these things soon. Game is not worth playing as is. I like the fact that there are meaningful things to do when not farming, as nowadays the actual watering of crops and general farm maintenance takes very little time, leaving empty days if there are no other goals. E of T has plenty to do on the exploring front to make each day feel full. For me everything seems like an upgrade from the earlier games.
My only gripe is that we are still unable to jump, and as a result the open world can feel as if you are traversing a maze at times.
Definitely lots of fun and would recommend if you enjoyed the last two Natsume games.

I see tons of people giving this game a bad rep because it is not up to their standards. Yes needing a control is insane for a game you can get on a computer platform. Honestly its giving stardew vibes but WAY better graphics. I have played every Harvest moon since game cube days and yes they did start to slowly decline in quality but I feel like this is a step in the right direction. Harvest moon has gotten alot of bad reviews. Don't base weather or not you want to buy this game on someone else's review. Get it on sale if you are not sure.
