and this is obviously still just the bare bones of the game.

I think the main dev challenge will be making sure the progression is fun, varied, and lengthy with out being tedious. So far the first three biomes are different enough to progress through and all feel unique enough (though they could be more unique), but some more enemy variety as well as progression variety (like how in Valheim the way you obtain each ore is drastically different per biome, or how progression in Terraria isn't always dependent on ores) will be very important to focus on in order to make the long term gameplay enjoyable and stand out.

Anyway, someone has actually made Terraria x Minecraft AND put their own flavor into it. Definitely already worth the price. Really excited to see where it goes.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tFirst came across Allumeria on r/goldenageminecraft a year ago, and I've been following the project ever since and played the game as part of its previous testing and demo periods.

Imagine playing Minecraft half way through 2011, but in between gathering resources to build cobblestone castles or woodland villas, you go on dungeon crawls exploring ever deeper caves seeking out ores, unique items, accessories and fending off a varied pool of monsters while preparing to battle powerful bosses.

Now imagine, after coming back from the cave with your haul of oddities, actually building that log cabin using a robust construction system, allowing any block to take on any form giving you unlimited possibilities and ways to customize.

Allumeria takes the core aesthetic values and voxel constraints of early Minecraft and harmonizes it with the gameplay and progression of Terraria all the while sprinkling little helpings of user friendly game design to make the final experience a joy to partake in.

I especially love building. Blocks are so malleable so you could turn maple planks into a slab or a stair or a carpet or like 4 types of fence of varying thickness. An absolutely genius design decision, especially when regarding inventory management. NO MORE shall I be organizing chests with rows of stairs, planks, fences and slabs!

Keep up the amazing development work Unomelon! This game brought back all the memories of playing Minecraft Alpha 1.2.6 on the home computer and I can't thank you enough for that.

\n\t\t\t\t\tStarting off, I'd like to say that Allumeria is a game I genuinely enjoy, but it is not without its flaws. Having played a past Alpha, the demo, and now the first Early Access build of the game, I'd like to voice my honest feedback.

Right now, to me, the game feels like it still needed more time in the oven, even for its first Early Access release. It is truly impressive what a single developer can do with such a vast project, but not every part feels equally cared for. My hope is that my feedback can be at least a small part of helping the game grow and realize its full potential.

Let me make a bullet list of the yays and nays, in my eyes.

First of all, I'd like to talk about what I enjoy about the game so far.

Building: Building in this game is incredibly fun. You are able to change almost every basic block type into a multitude of different shapes, eliminating the need to craft specifically shaped versions of each block. You are also freely able to transform the shape of most blocks at any time. This solves a lot of the inventory management issues that have always plagued me in another very popular block game. I also love the ability to freely change the hue of a block with a specific item you can obtain later in the game. The block variety is also amazing, and it makes me want to build big and elaborate projects.

Visuals: Visually speaking, the game is very beautiful. The color palette is vibrant, and the effects are clean, detailed, and well-selected without making everything look muddy. I also love the colored lighting so, so much. Biomes feel very different from each other in terms of visuals, and exploration is fun as a result.

Caving: Caving is one of my personal highlights in Allumeria as well. The cave generation, as mentioned in other reviews before, feels very rewarding and seems to expand into wider and more open tunnels the further you go down. It also feels very difficult to find a dead end in the caves, which makes exploration feel continuous. Finding little chests, structures, and crates is also very fun, but more on that later.

Now, onto the points that are currently preventing me from fully enjoying my time with Allumeria.

Bugs: I understand that this is the first Early Access release, but I've encountered so many bugs that I've reconsidered a dozen times whether I should continue playing or wait for a better version of the game to be released. Among the issues I've encountered are: being able to phase through blocks, NPCs not recognizing the room they are in and being unable to trade despite meeting their requirements, occasional random crashes inside the caves, the world not rendering from certain angles, animations not playing at the correct time (for example, opening a door and having it only show the animation a few seconds later), and clicks not registering on items in the inventory when done too quickly.

These aren't necessarily major gripes of mine, and I do hope these issues will get ironed out in the near future, but currently they are making my experience less enjoyable.

Monsters: Monsters feel very samey. While there are different monster types, later versions of the same monster often feel like reskins with a different model, with the only major difference being their health bar. I also feel like they spawn too often, and sometimes it makes me feel like I have to fight a horde despite having already cleared out an area shortly beforehand.

Balancing: Balancing feels a bit all over the place. I never really had a need to brew any potions, craft any torches besides my first few starting ones, or involve myself with most of the agricultural system. Another thing I obtained way too early was a very strong bow that allowed me to one-to-three-shot a lot of the enemies, also making the first forest boss feel trivial. Most of the different armor sets also feel irrelevant and I do not feel a noticeable different between them.

These are some of my thoughts about Allumeria. Overall, I do enjoy my time with the game, and I am sure that if Infinimelon continues working on it, it will overcome all the issues I've mentioned.

Right now, I would only recommend buying Allumeria if you are truly interested in the genre and want to see what new things it has to offer. The game still needs some time, but I am sure that in the near future, it will be a blast once these issues are ironed out.

\n\t\t\t\t\tVery neat little game. Visually it looks similar to Minecraft but structurally it feels quite a bit more like Terraria. Obviously Terraria is a hell of a game to try and compare anything to but for what it is and how early it is build wise I found it quite enjoyable. Sure there are design issues and an overall lack on content feeling to it but as of writing it is in early access. I played through it with my friend as the host so my experience had bugs here and there including the worm being invisible most of the time but honestly the fun with friends aspect really outweighs the issues I experienced. My only real gripe is just how much of a cluster ♥♥♥♥ the last two dungeons were (Snow and Desert biome). The enemy spawns are overwhelming for what the combat is paced for and specifically the snow biome, in the seed we ended up with anyway, took us forever to find the boss room and seemed to be broken up all over. Either way for what it is I had fun and look forward to returning to it every few months or so to play the new content with my buddy and see where the game goes.\t\t\t\t\t

More of a "3d terraria" than a "minecraft clone" its giving me the same feeling i had when i first played terraria :) the building options and inv management are great, theres stack to nearby chests, stairs and VERTICAL slabs (and others) can be selected from a radial wheel when placing any block. Every block is paintable in over 2 dozen colours. I just completed the first biome of progression and this is by far the best blocky game ive played, im glad i can do my blocky building on my deck without fiddling with MC/microslops external launcher. Mechanics-wise, it is a very well thought out game. There was no mechanic I was frustrated by, some do need improvement, but it's a solid foundation. Because of this, I think the game has immense potential, I definitely see it being able to become a 3D Terraria in the future.\t\t\t\t\t

I honestly love this game. People are naturally going to compare it to Minecraft, but once you play it for a bit you quickly realize it has its own charm. The building system is the best I've experienced in a voxel game. Inventory management is far superior to Minecraft. And caving is a lot of fun.

Its in early access at this time, so I'm excited to see where Melon takes it from here. But I see myself playing this game for years to come.

I have made both modpacks and mods for Minecraft; some with 600+ mods. Why so many? Well, after many attempts and failures to make the game more engaging for my friends and I, we all came to the realization that the game has many fundamental issues. These issues get in the way of making it a challenging survival and exploration experience for us. For us It had many lack luster mechanics and progression systems as well as contradictory incentive structures.

This game currently seems to fix many of the issues I have had with Minecraft and other 3d block voxel games such as vintage story. Allumeria actually gives me the same fun as early Minecraft and pre-hardmode Terraria does.

Here's some reasons listed below:

World gen:
I've been using the abstract preset. It generates the surface terrain in layers and honestly it allows for some of the most interesting engagement with traversal I've seen in all of the block voxel genre. I don't feel the need to build grindy contraptions but rather navigate with careful thought and planning for resource gathering.

Combat:
While not the most heart pounding, it definitely keeps my attention with the simple yet core enemy variety and their ability to swarm in various combinations. This makes overcoming them fun. I also enjoy the high spawn rate--it keeps the fight for survival going.

Building:
Honestly, chess master level thinking when it comes to the building system. I appreciate all blocks having different shapes (such as slabs and stairs) rather than each shape being their own independent block. This reduced much of the inventory fiddling and time wasting I would have done running to and from a crafting station to simply change the shape of a block from full block to a slab.

On top of this the dev actually gave the player an incentive to build. There are 'resident NPCs' like in Terraria that move into suitable housing. Honestly, this has me building like I haven't in years.

The NPC system is absolutely horrendous, so bad in fact, it made me quit several times out of frustration every time i started a session. NPCs bug out, dissapear, their demands for a room are so vague and hard to figure out, its almost impossible to make them a vendor for you. \n\t\t\t\t\tSo far, the game doesn't disappoint. It has a lot of QoL things both from games like Terraria and Minecraft, but also a few of its own. The game has a journal telling you where to go next and explore. There are 3 dungeons with a total of 3 main bosses, and the gameplay is pretty solid. Even though it looks a ton like Minecraft, calling it a clone is far from the truth. If anything, it would be more of a 3D Terraria clone. But even that is just not fair to the game.

It takes a few elements from both worlds, mixes in its own, and is pretty fun with potential. I look forward to updates in the future.

I really hope that they change, or rather add, a bit of variety to the boss's item pool. The good thing about killing a main boss is that in multiplayer, it drops double loot, but the thing I think should be changed is that the loot is always the same. There's no reason to fight any boss again, like at all. But that's just a minor inconvenience I had.

I had a ton of fun playing with a friend, and the game's price is pretty fair. Most people I've seen spent around 20 hours doing all the content, but even just those nearly 10 hours were enough to make it worth the money. I really hope the game improves on a lot of things, but right now, it's already in a pretty good state and you should give it a try.

1. torches bottom uv is the top of the torch texture
2. no multi-block breaking (like hytale, terraria, ext) which is really annyoing
3. no third person facing towards your face (bad for looking at skins and generally annoying that its missing)
4. shifting feels off without any more indication (crouching down a lil? would also be fun :3)
5. sprinting being the "yeah its an accessory ehehe" is... well its bad. as im working on a game myself, 3d games like this really benefit from spring being an innate part of the player, "but now all the balance of the enemies is goneee :<", thats the neat part, its not. its you can still run away, its just, slower and anticlimactic qwq tldr: sprinting being the way it is is just, bad

\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game so scratches the itch of the minecraft/terraria player who just plays modded experiences with dungeon crawling, bosses, exploration, adventure guides, etc etc. it's the game Mojang wouldn't dream of making, and that terraria is too confined in 2 dimensions to accomplish.

If you've played minecraft and hate the modern experience, this is for you. If you wanna play a survival dungeon crawler, this is also for you. highly recommended, espescially at the launch price of 10$. can't wait to see where this game goes.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tSeems like there is a lot of variance to Allumeria, and therefore your experience may vary immensely!

Many are saying how vast and open and unique their gameplay was... I spawned less than a minute from the world border and walking for around 15-20 minutes allowed me to see all of 2 biomes, a maple and a birch forest with almost no terrain variance.

The caving is just as bad, at least in the early game, and ends up feeling much less rewarding. 3+ hours of mining and I just narrowly got a mixed set of gold and silver equipment and tools, I ended up seeing a mineshaft towards the end of my session, so that was about the most exciting underground area I saw.

I got kitted out in silver, max HP with the beets(?), a gold sword and pick, and grabbed some projectiles. I spawned the first boss just to have it consistently be 20 meters higher than me in the air, its hitbox nonexistent or shifted, and lauching heat-seeking ghost deer heads that will hit you for a third of your hp even if you dodge them?
From what I can tell, you're expected to shoot/hit it with projectiles, which I was trying to do, but you can only get so far while the boss is pelting you with missiles that you have to evade while throwing/shooting, which has a charge-up/cooldown and inhibits your movement (compounding with controller gameplay)
These missiles also travel through blocks apparently. There is no feedback when you hit one of the deer heads, so I don't imagine you can send them back. And when right clicking to block with a sword, I was still hit for full damage. You have to summon it at night, it despawns if you die, and the item to summon it is mostly left up to chance. My first one took me 20 minutes as I got it seemingly from a chest underground or an enemy, and I couldn't craft another until the end of my gameplay just from drops.

The first boss might be significantly easier in multiplayer (and mouse/keyboard) from what I'm seeing in some other reviews.

I understand it's an Early Access Game, but for Early Access I really don't want to be stuck inside of blocks, going mach jesus down a ladder to my death, visual stutter and rubber-banding while going up ladders, visual stutter while using stairs, standing on air, look sensitivity settings not doing anything for your actual look sensitivity on controllers but instead increasing the speed of the inventory's virtual mouse, and numerous other bugs.
Speaking of controllers: Controller support was a considering factor when I bought this game, just to find out that the controller gameplay and default bindings by themselves were almost enough to ask for a refund. Crafting is miserable on controllers as well.
The initial boss fight seems much more doable on mouse and keyboard as well, but movement and fighting (or anything else) is not entirely fluid or good-feeling on controller.

The building is a mixed bag, the breadth of features in decoration opens up new possibilities other games don't provide by default, but mixed in with the repetitive bugs it just became an additional chore rather than a feature I was looking forward to.

There are a few QoL things that Allumeria does well over its predecessors, but otherwise it just feels really unpolished (Like most of the UI elements), buggy, and missing a lot of would-be QoL features. Would not recommend at this point in time, especially if you are looking at the controller support as a feature.

Edit: To clarify, I love the concept and I look forward to how this turns out. But Early Access isn't an excuse to have a nigh-broken game with numerous half-baked features while your paying playerbase act as your bug-checkers, that's what closed betas are typically for. As someone buying an Early Access title I expect rough around the edges, but I still expect a playable and fun title representative of the gameplay trailers and listed available features.
