\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tFirst came across Allumeria on r/goldenageminecraft a year ago, and I've been following the project ever since and played the game as part of its previous testing and demo periods.
Imagine playing Minecraft half way through 2011, but in between gathering resources to build cobblestone castles or woodland villas, you go on dungeon crawls exploring ever deeper caves seeking out ores, unique items, accessories and fending off a varied pool of monsters while preparing to battle powerful bosses.
Now imagine, after coming back from the cave with your haul of oddities, actually building that log cabin using a robust construction system, allowing any block to take on any form giving you unlimited possibilities and ways to customize.
Allumeria takes the core aesthetic values and voxel constraints of early Minecraft and harmonizes it with the gameplay and progression of Terraria all the while sprinkling little helpings of user friendly game design to make the final experience a joy to partake in.
I especially love building. Blocks are so malleable so you could turn maple planks into a slab or a stair or a carpet or like 4 types of fence of varying thickness. An absolutely genius design decision, especially when regarding inventory management. NO MORE shall I be organizing chests with rows of stairs, planks, fences and slabs!

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI want to preface this review by saying that I think this game looks very cool and has a lot of potential. I didn't get very far in the game but I'm not refunding it and I will definitely give it another shot of some of these issues get addressed. I just think right now it's a bit too rough to recommend and I want to share the experience I had in hopes that it could be helpful to the developer.
- Inventory management is ok, it's huge and the sorting option is much appreciated, I just think a shift-click + drag option to quickly move items between containers would be huge.
- I'm not really a fan of how mining works I fear... Instead of block damage being slowly but constantly applied like Minecraft, it's only applied when your tool hits the block, which means that certain tool upgrades are just useless because it still takes the same amount of hits to break a block, like it hasn't passed the damage threshold to break it in 1 hit instead of 2.. Does that make sense? Like planks take the same amount of time to break with a flint and copper axe.
- I don't like the carpenter NPC being the only way to get beds. I think it could be fine if not for the next two issues.
- The minimum house size feels way too big. I made a 9x9 house which feels PRETTY roomy to me but apparently it wasn't roomy enough. On top of that, all the terrain I've seen has been pretty hilly, so I feel like you'd have to do A LOT of terraforming to build a good sized house.
- The mobs... kind of just suck tbh? They are very beefy (at least with a flint sword) and SO MANY of them spawn ESPECIALLY on the surface when it turns nighttime. They also don't take knockback so they're just impossible to deal with on night 1.
These past 3 problems led to me feeling pressured to make a house before the first night, so I could skip it with a bed, but being unable to because of the terrain and the house size requirement, forcing me to just wait out the night in a cabin.

I honestly love this game. People are naturally going to compare it to Minecraft, but once you play it for a bit you quickly realize it has its own charm. The building system is the best I've experienced in a voxel game. Inventory management is far superior to Minecraft. And caving is a lot of fun.
Its in early access at this time, so I'm excited to see where Melon takes it from here. But I see myself playing this game for years to come.

More of a "3d terraria" than a "minecraft clone" its giving me the same feeling i had when i first played terraria :) the building options and inv management are great, theres stack to nearby chests, stairs and VERTICAL slabs (and others) can be selected from a radial wheel when placing any block. Every block is paintable in over 2 dozen colours. I just completed the first biome of progression and this is by far the best blocky game ive played, im glad i can do my blocky building on my deck without fiddling with MC/microslops external launcher. Early game is kinda slow, but it picks up a lot after the first boss. Game has incredible amounts of future potential and is already quite fun. Has a fantastic building system that isn't overly complex, so it's really fun to experiment and see what you can build. Love that you get access to paint quickly. some annoying probably bugs:
if an enemy hits you from under you you get launched HIGH
enemies can hit you through walls.
when you die enemies still attack you. and if you are breaking something while you died it will display you breaking any block you look at while dead, but not break it.
some criticism: i suggest automaticially pausing the game when switching tabs and reducing enemy damage. 20 damage from the start means instant death if you dont have a house. and even if you do, they can punch through walls.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
