\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI've played a decent amount of previous games going back as far at Train Fever, and I was really hyped for this game. It seemed like this would be the perfect balance of a familiar base with huge upgrades to the simulation, providing way more depth and a much more nuanced challenge than TpF2.
At first, it really felt like they had delivered, there are some huge quality of life upgrades from the very start. I generally like the new systems; delivery times, subsidies warehouses, expanded trams, general quality-of life improvements make for a great time. But the more I dig under the surface, the more frustrating the experience gets. Traffic refusing to overtake is a constant frustration, and the cargo pick-up/drop off settings are really obtuse. Passengers get upset way too easily if they have to wait more than a couple minutes, which is fair on a crowded bus stop, less so for a town of 50 whose only connection is a port with a big waiting room.
But worst of all, the factor which caused me to write this review, the noise and pollution system is inexplicable and broken. The issue that got me curious is that the Roter Pfeil electric railcar is louder and more polluting than the M-300 "skunk" diesel railcar of a decade previously. I was having issues with pollution spiking after I introduced some commuter rail using M-300s, so was looking forward to the new, clean, electric train that would logically fix the issue! But the Roter Pfeil has noise of "Poor" and pollution of "Mediocre", both worse than the M-300 (Mediocre and Good respectively). How does the train that is described as "you can smell it before you see it" get a "Good" for pollution? Trying to understand the logic got me looking into the game files, at which point it gets so much worse. Noise and pollution ratings generally increase massively as vehicles get more modern - a "Good" from 2000 can easily be producing 5x the emissions of a "Good" from 1920. I assume this is meant to represent the modern world having less tolerance for noise and pollution, but the problem is that there's nothing stopping you from using older vehicles in the modern era and people are fine with that. The modern CAF Urbos 3 electric tram has a noise rating of 95, which is more than almost any other vehicle in the game (including jets). All train and tram wagons have pollution, usually 5, but the Junkers F13 plane from the 1920s has pollution of 3. When a freight train is on the move, the vast majority of its emissions (both noise and pollution) comes from the wagons, with the locomotive usually contributing a minor portion - 12 freight cars at 5 pollution each is more than almost any single locomotive. This is fairly accurate for noise, but not for pollution! Private cars seem to make very little pollution, so getting people onto public transport is the worst decision you can make, especially when stations and tracks seem to emit significant pollution even when unused. It also doesn't seem to matter where pollution happens, a depot right next to people's houses is worse for noise but the same for pollution as one in the middle of nowhere.
All this means that at this point, I have two choices. I can work within the parameters of the game, which would essentially mean using old, slow steam locomotives, and build more highways to reduce pollution and noise, and ignore any connection with reality. Or I could just accept that the system is completely broken, turn off pollution, and focus on building a sensible logistics network. Maybe someone will be able to figure out this mess and come up with a better system as a mod. Until then, one of the main features that differentiates TpF3 from TpF2 just isn't workable.
If there was a neutral rating, I would choose that. If you've played TpF2 and want to work with the revamped economy, it might be worth it, but at this point I would probably wait and see how it looks after a couple of patches. The value isn't great at this point.
Edit a couple of days later: After having played with noise and pollution a bit more, it seems like pollution in practice mostly comes from stations and industries, regardless of where they are. I like playing with sparse towns but normal / dense industries, so I can really focus on meeting every towns' demand and grow them big. If that town happens to be coastal, it'll have 10 oil rigs in its area before long, and pollution from that is basically game over before you've started. If you set up a commuter railway, 5-10 little train stations scattered throughout town, you're also immediately in trouble from the empty stations.
I've now started a new game with pollution and noise off and I'm having a much better time. It's removed what was a brick wall for me and let me face challenges that I can actually deal with, that force me to plan routes and networks carefully and adapt as towns grow. The logistics upgrades are superb, every production chain feels unique and fun to work with, and it's so satisfying when you get things working efficiently. It feels like this game is so close to being outstanding but instead is hit-or-miss due to really obvious (and fixable) issues.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I think a lot of the negative performance reviews come from the game wanting to launch in windowed mode which made my computer (i7 and a 7900xtx) unplayable. Once i switched to fullscreen though i was getting 130 fps + on 1440p medium settings. if you launch the game SWITCH TO FULL SCREEN. To be fair i dont know why the game doesnt launch in fullscreen anyway and i was annoyed and upset at first. once i figured out the game hates windowed mode its been a very addicting day. overall the game improves on everything the last one establishes and it has changed a lot of quality of life features for the better. the game is stunning and can see myself dumping an unhealthy amount of hours into it. if you do decide to get it remember SWITCH TO FULLSCREEN so the game is playable.

We can add TF3 to the list with Cities Skylines 2, Industry Giant 4, Pizza Connection 3 and to an extent Planet Coaster 2 (which pains me to say).
TL;DNR – This is not an allegedly $25 million game; stick with TF2. It’s more rounded, performs better, contains QoL updates that TF3 should have inherited and has more intelligence about it. This feels like a game the devs forgot to play themselves ported to PC from Console. TF3 is just a graphically polished worse version of TF2.
I wanted to recommend this game. I can’t. This is, at best, a TF2 reskin with new and returning bugs. The new, shiny stuff is just that, new and shiny – it is still deeply flawed. In fact, I am getting annoyed with developers who are making PC-intended games with a “console first” methodology. You can see that everything in the game is made with console in mind because consoles can’t have stacked logic like PCs can and it is "easier" to develop it together than to develop separately without realising that what works on console does not on PC (and vice versa). That’s why you are clicking single buttons for single actions, why all of the information is displayed at you in one go, why the UI is so clunky & chunky, and why every click feels deliberate and heavy.
There are so many other too. Let me list the current frustrations in no order.
1.\tThis list is fixed by mods. Not base game. That in itself is frustrating. Modders are not there to finish your game.
2.\tIndustry buildings don’t age
3.\tThere is no 1850 – 1900. If you try selling it to me as a DLC, I’m rage quitting
4.\tIf you upgrade a road with stops on it, the terminals don’t align to the path, they stay in the middle
5.\tThe capacities of vehicles vs demands and production is horribly unbalanced
6.\tThere’s a new collision bug introduced because of the new tunnel layer. You can’t upgrade track – or delete it in some instances – because of collision
7.\tThe game has lost its intelligence. You need separate lines for everything. You now can’t have mixed train cargo, multiple stops of differing cargo etc. One of the joys of TF2 was the ability to throw a truck at a line and it just picked up whatever and sent wherever. It also doesn’t correctly assign preferred terminals and changing them is not easy or intuitive.
8.\tTowns grow ridiculously quickly, see point 5 because good luck transporting all your new passengers in a modern bus carrying 12 people.
9.\tThe UI is horrible. There are so many overlapping messages, you are presented with EVERYTHING about the line when you select a vehicle (which itself is a nightmare), finding how to upgrade or replace is hard and there are a number of selectable overlaps too – try selecting a stop that is close to another, you will activate the hover menu of the previous stop and delete it.
10.\tMany, many vehicles are missing. Added back in with mods, but ultimately you are working with 1/3 of the stock from TF2. Granted, you can’t just make up historical vehicles to keep it fresh
11.\tThere is a massive misalignment of maximum speeds and availability times between locomotives and their wagons. Why are you making me wait 20 game years for a coach that is capable of speeds a locomotive can go in 1900?
12.\tThe entire game locks up and grinds to a halt in 1940 as the game tries to calculate the existence of highways.
13.\tThere is no way to globally upgrade your train tracks or roads to be modern (high speed, electrify etc). So, with the addition of the collision bug, good luck modernising your vast network or your dirt road network in 2020.
14.\tThere are many, many more – but you probably didn’t even get this far.

I saw people complaining about performance, for me it runs smoothly even on verly large map with a lot of trees. (Smoothly being between 60-110FPS, you cannot expect e-sport level FPS from game like this). Only thing that breaks my immersion is that many buildings are not period-specific, so seeing a factory with parked trucks and forklifts in 1900 is kind of weird. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tHonestly, I was mega hyped for this game, TF2 is one of my favorite Tycoon Games and I had such high hopes for this one. It still is a decent game overall, but SO many things are insanely inconvenient, I will list my problems at the bottom. There are no game-breaking bugs and the game runs well enough on a high-end PC, but the new features feel underdeveloped. Some features that are new to the game don't work well, but absurdly if someone would implement them in TF2 they would work, so it really does feel like the devs didn't play their own game too much. I sincerely hope they release a patch soon that addresses a few of the deeper issues.
My Problems:
Vehicles don't overtake at all, if you start a Very Hard game in 1900 where every penny counts, it hurts so much more to see vehicles go half of their max speed, on a four/six lane road, instead of just overtaking. It is better in later years, but it sure is frustrating. In TF2 private transport was usually faster than your vehicles so it didn't bother as much + there was no Passenger Satisfaction rating that you had to take into account.
You need a seperate line for EVERYTHING. Imagine you have a truck line, from a farm taking wheat and vegetables to some truck stop. So you build a truck stop with two terminals one for bulk and one for goods. Select both terminals as alternatives and in an ideal world, the trucks would choose the right terminal depending on their cargo. This is not the case, they treat both of them as equal, which results in slower unloading, so you NEED to make the exact same line, just with the different terminal selected. At least give me the option to have the trucks choose a terminal fitting their goods. This is one of the main features of TF3 why is it so cumbersome to use?
You can't choose which goods are being unloaded. If you have a train with mixed cargo, for example I have a train that takes wheat and vegetables, from the farm to some place, for the best loading speed, you need the right terminal modification, so instead of one terminal you build two, one for goods and the other for bulk, with one track in the middle, the train doesn't recognise that both terminals could load the train with better speed, so you assign a separate stop on the same track, just for the other terminal. In an ideal world, the train would stop at the station, load wheat from one terminal, switch to the other WITHOUT any movement because the track is in the middle and load the vegetables with the upgraded speed. But nonono, the train loads the wheat, switches to the next terminal THEN UNLOADS THE WHEAT, because you CAN NOT choose not to unload it. What the actual f***. The funny thing is if these specialized terminals would somehow be modded into TF2 they would work. *EDIT: Apparently this is my mistake the solution is in the comments. Thanks to CaptEggman, although it is a little unintuitive
This game can still become the greatest Tycoon game of all time, but it just isn't right now.

I want to clarify, this is still a very decent game: if you haven't played TF1 or TF2, this one is definitely the one to get, as I think they will update the game and make it truly the best in the series. But as a returning fan, I feel disappointed by the missed opportunities!
For example the difficulty just feels too easy, I play on the "Very Hard" preset, on a dry map with mountains, lakes and rivers all max, expecting to maybe fail or at least struggle, which I did not. A friend of mine plays on normal and has train lines with 10/140 passengers and still manages to make a fortune. Everyone can enjoy the game how they want, but that's not the behaviour I would expect from a normal or very hard difficulty preset. They tried to counter the exponential growth with the inflation mechanic, but it just doesn't hit hard enough imo.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tSorry, but this is quite disappointing but the game feels bit unfinished - I know some other players have issues with performance (I got it bit better after GPU drivers update) but actually what I really don't like is the anachronism in models like depots and factories. You start the the game in 1900, yet all stations, depot, factories has everything poured in asphalt and you can see modern machinery in factories, heliports on offshore oil rigs (which are itself looking modern - it is even a question if they should be available in 1900) - it is just breaking immersion.
Also the Trees and grass (at least in temperate maps) looks strange - actually worse than in TF2 imho. I also think that the new UI (especially for setting new lines) is not well designed.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI don't like giving a game a negative review when I am actually enjoying it, but Urban Games has a nasty habbit of making full price sequels for things that realistically should have been an update or a DLC. Transport Fever 3 is no different.
90% of the game is Transport Fever 2 with barely upgraded graphics. Bugs and weird stuff that go as far back as Train Fever are still in the game. It still runs on the same engine, using mostly the same mechanics, and you'll still run into the same clunky tools as you did with their previous 3 transit games.
The few things that are new are so small and insignificant that they could have been a free update to TF2. The new vehicles and industries could have been a DLC. None of these things waranted a completely new game sold at full price. Especially with the mess they made of the UI and game mechanics that actually got ripped out rather than expanded upon.
That's not to say that TF3 is a bad game. It's just that you could buy TF2 for a fraction of the price and have 90% the exact same experience with the benefit of a dozen patches and years worth of mods. I think Transport Fever 3 is extremely good for what it adds and does now, but there are things that are wrong with it at release here that others have mentioned. I will add to and change this as time goes on.

The big thing I want to say 1st is the fact that Transport Fever 2 also had the *same exact kind of initial release* as TpF3 here. Ya'll just forget because its been 8 freaking years now and you guys have the memory of a wet sponge. Transport Fever 2 was not as people describe it, "better", overnight and it took Urban Games around a year or 2 to get it to where it more or less has stayed for the past 5 years. In fact a lot of features weren't in the base game of TpF2 that it eventually got over time, and I think this will be the same. This is just the initial release after all and TpF2 was just as unpolished at release as this is. Most just don't remember and are looking at 2 with rose colored glasses.
For those not wanting to buy it now, well frankly if you're debating, just don't. Wait till later then. No one is forcing you to buy the game now and you can continue playing Transport Fever 2 for now.
Now onto the actual subject of what's currently needing to be changed here:
1. Yes the oil rig: I get it, it doesn't fit the era. They need to move this to only spawn after 1960.
2. Loaded trains not weighing more: This one is entirely valid and people saying "the physics aren't there anymore" literally do not know how to word crap. Currently the trains only take the number of cars/wagons behind them into account. Not really the end all for me personally, but definitely something that should be fixed in the future.
3. Towns growing way too fast: This is another entirely valid thing. They do grow way too fast. I myself am dying at the fact that "Fast" is like 200 more population every 5 minutes. Its a bit ridiculous and completely overwhelms the player.
4. Vehicle selection: Yes, there's a lot less base game vehicles and this genuinely is something that I was expecting to have more of. They eliminated a lot of things, including a lot of American locomotives and rolling stock. My hope with this is more is added back as time goes on, but what they did here for what people do not understand or get is the rework of the game for the 1900 start date. You start with very little and work your way up, this is why early game for like 20 years, there's not much available...the entire game start now just has been shifted forward 50 years. Don't forget the entirety of the 1800s in TpF2 only gives you like 5 or 6 locomotives each for the USA, Russia and Europe (there's no Asian ones). For America you only started with the freaking Baldwin 6 wheels in 1850 in TpF2 and you have that for like 20 years *as well* before you get the 4-4-0 American. So what's genuinely hilarious to me is you guys completely forgot this is how the game has always been structured with base game vehicles, its just now been shifted to 1900 as the start.
5. Vehicle capacities for passengers, maybe some cargo, are horribly imbalanced for the new game: Yes...seriously. Its so bad because the population density and whatnot has been increased so much that it doesn't even remotely reflect the new game. We still have the TpF2 capacities when we need new ones for TpF3 to suit the new town growth and map population.
6. Paved Road availability: 1940 is way too late for this as we should get some form of paved roads in the 1920s. It doesn't have to be full on highways, but at the least they could give us paved streets and 2 to 4 lane highways like we had in TpF2 as well frankly, I see what they did here. They are making it so you get highways around when the real life ones we still have today, at least here in the USA, started being constructed which yes, was around the 1940s if you do your history research. While in concept it might have been an OK idea, in practice its terrible for gameplay. I'll throw traffic lights in here as well, they need to come earlier too.
7. The GUI can be redone again since there's a lot of demand for it. Personally I don't mind it all that much, but whatever they do I can adapt to very quickly. I guess I'm just built different, lol.
8. How cargo is handled: Yeah...this needs to be improved as you can't set unloading now and vehicles just do this automatically without your direct control. The predictive load system when setting up a line is also a bit annoying and could be an option or eliminated. Cargo before having set destinations made it extremely easy to route everything as it would just more or less automatically do it for you after you set up the line and added vehicles. Now you have to manually route it yourself but they've not actually given us the tools at this stage to do that in an easy manner. You not being able to set any unload amounts for stops prevents you from being able to distribute cargo the way you want it easily.
Edit: I figured out a way around this for now and its using the "Max Stop Time" timer and setting it to like a few seconds. The vehicle will just drive on then without having fully unloaded. Maybe this is the way they intended you to use the new system, I don't know. But its not intuitive to the end user at all in reality.
Obviously this isn't a completely comprehensive list of everything wrong right now because to list everything would make this so stupidly long it would be ridiculous.
Summary: Realistically what happened here to me is that the Youtubers and other content creators provided no actual input to this game and were just a bunch of "Yes Men" to Urban Games. These kinds of people are the exact opposite of what you want to have test or provide feedback on a game. They do 1 of 2 things: Say absolutely nothing or recommend nothing, or go and say "its great!" with no constructive criticism whatsoever. Paradox from what I've heard was also part of the play testing and I think that goes without saying they just looked at the game, gave the thumbs up, and then that was it.
At this stage I will give Urban Games the benefit of the doubt in that they've had this trend since the beginning in fact with Train Fever. Edit: I figured out a way around this for now and its using the "Max Stop Time" timer and setting it to like a few seconds. The vehicle will just drive on then without having fully unloaded. Maybe this is the way they intended you to use the new system, I don't know. But its not intuitive to the end user at all in reality.
Obviously this isn't a completely comprehensive list of everything wrong right now because to list everything would make this so stupidly long it would be ridiculous.
Summary: Realistically what happened here to me is that the Youtubers and other content creators provided no actual input to this game and were just a bunch of "Yes Men" to Urban Games. These kinds of people are the exact opposite of what you want to have test or provide feedback on a game. They do 1 of 2 things: Say absolutely nothing or recommend nothing, or go and say "its great!" with no constructive criticism whatsoever. Paradox from what I've heard was also part of the play testing and I think that goes without saying they just looked at the game, gave the thumbs up, and then that was it.
At this stage I will give Urban Games the benefit of the doubt in that they've had this trend since the beginning in fact with Train Fever. They have oversight which is the thing that really shoots themselves in the foot with every initial release they do and them having to quickly scramble to undo the damage done by the initial release.
I think that now the actual player base has their hands on the game, they can give some real constructive feedback to Urban Games and subsequently fix all the various problems with it.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

the addition of warehousing and the ability to have trains wait at a station and calculate when to leave to balance the frequency on a line have revolutionised how i play. mainlines and multiple cargo trains now make sense. you can even choose what percentage of the train to unload so you can have it go to 3 stops and put it to 66%, 33%, and 0%, it will only unload the train to the set percentage which was was not previously possible in TF2 automatic supply and demand system. in this game you have to manage how much you supply and scale it to the demand unlike tf2 where the productions did that for you.
e addition of specialised platforms means there a reaon to have large intricate stations. Substadies break up the gameplay and give give you actual goals and objectives although many of them are too easy imo, like transport 10 workers from a city to a farm, 1 bus load and you get 7 million dollars lol.

I really, really want to sit down and say: "Yes, this is a great sequel to Transport Fever 2".
But I just can't do that yet. There a number of issues I feel need to be fixed first before I can do that. Performance is NOT one of them, I personally don't mind the stutters... it's a huge simulation game, it's going to happen.
It's small things like textures on sub-arctic having obvious checkerboarding / repeating on very high graphics, or a lack of vehicle options and detailing (this is fixable with mods which will come), or the grass under houses being a bright lime green compared to the unsaturated grass around them in climates like sub-arctic, or buildings being wildly out of date depending on when you start.
These all add up to make me feel more "meh." than "YEAH THIS IS AWESOME!" - (granted, some of these are more personal opinion, but there definitely some ACTUAL issues that need fixing, check other reviews!).

You now have to explicitly manage each lines stops by defining what each stop loads/unloads. Meaning that once you get to a specific point in the game where you have multiple towns and dozens of lines introducing a new product it's not going to just be picked up by the transportation system you've spent hours building because now you have to change every single line you have to support that new product.... \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI have more than 1200 hours in Transport Fever 2. I expected certain improvements from Transport Fever 3, but only found disappointment, and I will list why.
1. The cutting of the 1850-1899 section of the game is an insult to railroad/transit history, and to our intelligence as players. "It's too slow," they claimed. However, now you have the same problem of slow vehicles and a slow start in 1900 as opposed to an earlier time period. The problem was not, and had never been, the era. The problem is the developers did not properly pace the game, and treats the steam/early diesel era as something to "get through" in order to get to the "good stuff," instead of treating the eras with the respect they deserve. When the poll went out "what's your favorite era?" I had no idea they were planning on cutting one. This was singlehandedly *the* biggest slap in the face to someone who greatly enjoys the steam era, which has been cut short, quite literally by 75%, in a game that already had limited attention put on it's steam locomotives. "Oh, but modders will put it back!" F you. Be better developers. Fix the problems *you* made, don't punish players who enjoy an aspect of the game by cutting content that they like. Casuals who like the "go fast" rectangles of modernity can have that. I have no interest in playing past 1960.
2. Since train fever, steam locomotives have had steam blasting out of their cylinders, which is NOT how they operate. It ruins the visuals, and hides the animations of the valve gear & wheels. This is, and always has been, stupid. It shows a lack of knowledge and attention to detail that is unacceptable for a game that just spent $25,000,000 on development. This issue was addressed by a mod in BOTH TPF1 & 2, and that mod is not available for TPF3 yet, but it should not be up to modders to fix stupid nonsense put in by people who don't understand the basics of a steam locomotive. All you have to do is stop the particles coming out of the cylinders. That's literally it. Just turn it off. No steam locomotive runs above 5mph with the cylinder drains open like that. It just shows ignorance, and is related to my #1 issue above.

\n\n\t\t\t\t1. The cutting of the 1850-1899 section of the game is an insult to railroad/transit history, and to our intelligence as players. "It's too slow," they claimed. However, now you have the same problem of slow vehicles and a slow start in 1900 as opposed to an earlier time period. The problem was not, and had never been, the era. The problem is the developers did not properly pace the game, and treats the steam/early diesel era as something to "get through" in order to get to the "good stuff," instead of treating the eras with the respect they deserve. When the poll went out "what's your favorite era?" I had no idea they were planning on cutting one. This was singlehandedly *the* biggest slap in the face to someone who greatly enjoys the steam era, which has been cut short, quite literally by 75%, in a game that already had limited attention put on it's steam locomotives. "Oh, but modders will put it back!" F you. Be better developers. Fix the problems *you* made, don't punish players who enjoy an aspect of the game by cutting content that they like. Casuals who like the "go fast" rectangles of modernity can have that. I have no interest in playing past 1960.

This is, and always has been, stupid. It shows a lack of knowledge and attention to detail that is unacceptable for a game that just spent $25,000,000 on development. This issue was addressed by a mod in BOTH TPF1 & 2, and that mod is not available for TPF3 yet, but it should not be up to modders to fix stupid nonsense put in by people who don't understand the basics of a steam locomotive. All you have to do is stop the particles coming out of the cylinders. That's literally it. Just turn it off. No steam locomotive runs above 5mph with the cylinder drains open like that. It just shows ignorance, and is related to my #1 issue above.

I like the game, I like most of the changes they've implemented, though it still feels like a typical content update for TF2 with improved graphics.
If you've played Transport Fever 2 there isn't any real game changers in terms of gameplay aside from the new subsidies system and factories requesting more items + passengers and changes to how maintenance is handled (This is now more in depth).
Creating/Managing lines is relatively the same but you have slightly more control over what's picked up and you don't need to place down as many road stations/depots. For some of the heavy, general changes from Transport Fever 2

80 Hour Update
My initial review of "Super Mid" still stands after several more crashes once the world has had a chance to grow. The game seems to suffer from the same issue that Cities Skylines 2 suffered in that once you're far enough progressed in a game the performance starts to suffer at an exponential rate. Examples of this include: - Random crashing with no warning
- Setting up ship routes can take multiple minutes to figure out the path
- Stuttering and random FPS drops when a world population is greater than 20,000

OG Review
This is another game where I really, really wish Steam allowed for a "Mixed" review instead of a yes/no recommendation. This is based off of an hour of gameplay, give or take with one crash resulted from a memory leak of some kind. If you've played Transport Fever 2 there isn't any real game changers in terms of gameplay aside from the new subsidies system and factories requesting more items + passengers and changes to how maintenance is handled (This is now more in depth).
Creating/Managing lines is relatively the same but you have slightly more control over what's picked up and you don't need to place down as many road stations/depots. For some of the heavy, general changes from Transport Fever 2
- Gone away are the separate cargo/passenger dropoffs/street stations, these are now combined. Ports have had the same treatment which means less maintenance costs and overall less clutter.
- You can build warehouses which are just specialized cargo buildings that can attach to depots.
- There are additional roads and rails for dealing with noise which is a welcome change.
- Trams now have an underground station and can also deliver cargo instead of just passengers. Protip: Keep your horse trams and shove them underground later, where they belong
- In addition to planes we now have helicopters as well.
- When you level up your company you can bribe towns to found new industries creating raw resources.
- You can build landmarks by placing them down and delivering resources to them which given certain affects.
- Emissions has been broken down into noise pollution and general pollution which both influence town growth.
- You can influence industries to decrease pollution by shoving money down their throats or create a factory that sucks up pollution in a small area for a gorillian dollars and a load of noise pollution to piss off the locals further.
- Reputation is now a thing (again); If you want to bulldoze a town you'll need to make sure the people like you first or the NIMBYs will get in your way. Gotta appease the boomers.
- You can pay money to have the Hindenburg fly around a town to boost your reputation and make encourage people to use your transit so you can demolish their neighborhood efficiently and with a smile on their faces
A generalized list of pros/cons overall for Transport Fever 3:
Pros: - There's not much that changed from the tried and true of Transport Fever 2
- There are more tools for dealing with noise pollution
- The new subsidy system is kind of nice and gives, maybe too much of, a helping hand to nudging players in what towns need help where
- The map overall seems to be more alive than in Transport Fever 2
- The way vehicle maintenance is handled now is a little nicer
- Helicopters and oil rigs are nice
- It's graphically prettier than Transport Fever 2, maybe on par with modded Cities Skylines 1.
- Underground tram tracks essentially translates to a half-assed metro system
Cons:
- Train lines are still ludicrously simple and this results in lines getting backed up in one way or another
- Factories have the same look regardless of age; It's not nice seeing factories with modern day machinery during the year 1900's which just shows laziness on the developer's part.
- Random FPS drops and heavy stuttering. There is no reason I should be getting FPS or lag spikes with my current specs sitting on medium settings or lower. Paradox can be blamed for a lot but this is entirely on Urban Games, it's shameful really.
- The new UI system is a downgrade from Transport Fever 2 and it feels almost like AI was used to design the UI in lieu of a competent UX designer; Why everything needs to be shoved on a little baby bar at the bottom right is beyond me while having a large, open section around what is essentially a help popup.
- The music is incredibly generic and each track is very "Samey", almost sounding like something bought off of pond5; Even older games like SimCity had a more robust soundtrack than this. It's ♥♥♥♥. I had the music on with the game playing in the background for 30 minutes while writing this and it sounded like it was on repeat, it is just bad.
- No workshop support. This is outright a downgrade from Transport Fever 2 and there is no excuse for it.
- Highway congestion is still seemingly a thing it seems. Is your bus stuck behind a horse and buggy? Truck stuck behind grandpa? Sucks to suck. I guess their dynamic overtaking system isn't working as intended.
- The amount of vehicles and variation are a straight downgrade from Transport Fever 2.

And the game has been a blast so far, with many aspects being more enjoyable across the board.
However, several things have stuck our considerably which for me personally, means I cannot recommend Transport Fever 3 in its current state.
It all comes down to the absolute butchering of the vehicle selection and shortening of gametime by removing the 1850 to 1900 time period.
- Removal of many classic vehicles from Transport Fever 2. Remember the powerful Milwaukee EP-2? Or the super fast Hiawatha? Or let's not forget, the BR.103? And many more. All gone. Same applies to other vehicle categories too (trucks etc), and almost ALL pre-1900 vehicles. I understand that we have a net vehicle gain, the novelty being the helicopters and trams (cargo & light rail), but overall, coming from Transport Fever 2, this feels like a downgrade.
- Removal of 1850-1900 gameplay. In Transport Fever 3, sandbox games now start at 1900. I don't know if the majority of players in previous titles started with this date, but for me, starting in 1850 gave a whole different game dynamic, which you don't have later down the road. No more wagon conveyor belts or tiny little steam trains. The respective 1850-1900 vehicles have also been removed, but can be re-added as a mod (in turn, removing achievements, but there is a mod for getting achievements with mods). Starting in 1850 was more realistic for me as well, that's when transport and cargo distribution historically began, not in 1900.
I fear that my issues above might be fixed with pricey DLCs. If at all. In which case, they will leave it up to the AMAZING modders. If such is the case, I hope we can get a legacy modpack with missing Transport Fever 2 vehicles from either Urban Games or the modding community. Either way, this trend of letting the community fix your game for free while paying a hefty sum of money for the vanilla game is outrageous.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAs a Transport Fever 2 player, my first 16 hours with Transport Fever 3 were not very fun. After playing with the game settings and making my own map, my opinion changed entirely and I love the improvements that have been made to this game.
My standout favorite feature is the dynamic nature that industries have. Production levels now vary based on the number of fields, coal pits, animal pens, or other resources the industry has. You cannot plan for a flat 200 wheat from a farm, 400 iron from a mine, etc., as in TF2. Industry production can be boosted by bringing in workers or equipment from other locations on the map. This is so great, and adds a ton more fun and management to harvesting raw materials. Industry output can be significantly raised over what it was in Transport Fever 2, eliminating the clusters of duplicate industries I used to end up with in the old game. Also there are a ton of new industry types, a big improvement and challenge over TF2's lack of variety.
My dislikes with Transport Fever 3 are mostly related to the UI, and I believe these will be addressed by Urban Games, as I am not the only one complaining. The core mechanics and the game itself run great, the graphics are very pleasing and fun to watch, but the new UI takes a lot of getting used to. There are too many menus and popups, and many functions are hidden in difficult to find locations. I have to frequently Google where to find what I am looking for in the controls.
One example of a UI annoyance in Line Manager is the Configure Stop popup blocks access to Select Terminals and other controls. This popup has to be swatted out of the way multiple times while configuring every new line. If it were just moved an inch to the right, it could be ignored. Another frustration is that the vehicle depots and stations have no icon when viewed in the standard overhead view. I completely lose track of where my vehicle depots are, as they end up buried in cities and cannot be found.
It would be helpful in the City menu if you could just click on one of the city demands, Clothes for example, and have the goods movement indicator show you where this product could be brought in from. I find it easy to determine that a city wants Clothes, but not easy to figure out where Clothes come from.
My other UI complaint is that not all menus have memory for how you just used them. An example of this is the Visible Lines function does not remember if you had this on or off, so you have to click the eyeball icon every time you want to send vehicles on a visible line. Also Line Statistics and Vehicle Statistics do not remember that I like those displays expanded. Every time I open them, I have to expand.
Pinned Vehicles now have a huge box that takes up a lot of space. It would be nice if this could be minimized to just the vehicle itself. Also any pinned vehicles or stations immediately get covered up by the next thing you click on, kind of negating the point of pinning them in the first place.
The main reason this game was not fun for me when I first started playing was the compressed nature of the standard maps and overwhelming growth of cities from just delivering a few things. My first two playthroughs I connected passenger transport between two cities and started delivering one product, Fish, and the cities grew so fast that I spent hours micromanaging the growth in passenger volume and traffic jams. I never got to the point where I could bring in anything but Fish, because my cities turned into a mess.
Fixing this was easy, and even fun... I created my own custom map using the Map Editor, size Large, with only five cities. In Gameplay Settings I put Industry Target Density on Sparse, and Delivery Sensitivity on Very Low so my cities would not blow up in population right away. Just this makes the game much more enjoyable for me. I also set Subsidies Availability to Rarely, to eliminate so many notifications about subsidies. Some notifications can be turned off at the Notifications page.
The game runs very smooth for me on the default settings that were auto-selected, 2560x1440 all on High with 4x Anti-Aliasing. In 50 hours played I have had no game crashes. There was one UI error which the game recovered from by itself. I am impressed. I am playing on an i7-13700K with 32 gigs and an RTX 4070Ti, and TF3 runs better than TF2 on my system. I have 5900 hours in Transport Fever 2 (lol--I did fall asleep a few times, but still...). We'll see if I get that much time out of Transport Fever 3.
The only other thing, which will soon be fixed by modders, is that there are very few North American vehicles. Eh, nbd, I can play the European vehicles until more NA vehicles are available.

Sadly it isn't anywhere near as polished as Transport Fever 2 was on release, but it isn't as bad as C:S2
The graphics are really nice and the new features are really cool, like subsidies and light rail, but I found some of the changes in tools and UI from the previous game to be a pain, for example
- The road tool is just worse
- The line manager is cumbersome and I find myself often making accidental stop aditions, or creating lines when I didn't mean to
- Loading cargo settings via the line manager is a confusing mess
- The errors with lines not showing up on screen at all and having to dig through the line manager to find them (they should be with the other messages at the top of the screen!)
- Multiple times I've ended up in a state where I am placing a building and can't press N/M to rotate it without exiting the menu and selecting the building again
- I've had the UI just completely break on me a few times in a few different ways
- The lack of steam workshop just sucks, I get console cross-modding but the fact I gotta wait 5 minutes after every boot to let mods downloads is really annoying
- While the UI elements being hidden is generally good, I wish there was at least an option to show everything like in the previous game

- Heavy performance drops: Even on smaller, mostly empty maps, performance struggles, and accelerating the game speed tanks the frame rate to an unplayable crawl. If an empty map runs this poorly, a full-scale late-game network will be completely unplayable.
- Bad value at launch: It feels more like an unfinished beta than a polished sequel. Compared to a fully patched and modded TF2, this is currently a downgrade.

first of all performance is absolute garbage. fps jumps randomly between 40 and 60 on medium settings and stutters heavily whenever you move the camera or try to do anything. devs completely skipped the optimization phase.
on top of that, the game is full of bugs. trains just get stuck at stations for no reason with clear tracks ahead, trucks wont load cargo automatically at ports unless you manually fix their route, and building track junctions in tunnels is super glitchy (and the removal tool doesnt even work so you have to reload old saves).
what kills the immersion the most is the total lack of historical accuracy. they cut the 1850-1899 era completely, yet when you start in 1900 you see modern 1980s concrete buildings, asphalt roads, modern trucks, and offshore oil rigs with heliports... steam trains still blast steam constantly out of their cylinders which is not how they work at all, and there are no proper USA wagons for 1900.
to make matters worse, the new UI and controls are a downgrade. the one click placement replaces the old confirm button so you cant fix mistakes easily, and the tutorial is completely broken locking you into making truck lines when a train makes way more sense.

I just want to state that this game is incredibly stunning, and it deserves credit on that end for bringing the graphical fidelity. However I feel that everything else is the problem here...
First of all there are still bugs in this game all the way from Train Fever, I find it a bit crazy that the asking price is upwards of 50$ when you still have bugs that are from a 10+ year old game...
Second of all, the game feels REALLY clunky and the textures... my god the saturation burns my eyes on the desert map type and building ground textures don't adapt to the environment that they are placed in, massive oversight that kills immersion.
Third of all, and really this the biggest complaint and what ultimately is making me refund this, is absolutely NO Steam Workshop support. I feel like this is in part Paradox's doing because they have done the same to Cities Skylines 2 and it made me never want to touch that game ever again.
In conclusion, I am really sad that this is the state of this franchise, I do not feel they really understand what the community wanted and even for the part they wanted to cater to, they didn't really hit that mark. It's really a shame too because Transport Fever 2 impressed me quite a bit with it's ability to be stretched with mods and maybe this game will get that too, but like I said, no Workshop is a turn off. So for now I'm giving this a negative review. Sorry guys you really dropped the ball.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
