Let’s be realistic here: the story is good, the graphics are fantastic, the combat is satisfying, and the entire game is technically very impressive.
But I also think we all know that a significant number of players noticed something else very quickly:
EVE.
The character design, animations, outfits, body physics and attention to movement are very clearly part of the game’s appeal. Stellar Blade doesn’t exactly try to hide that, either. It embraces an openly attractive female protagonist, and personally, I have absolutely no problem with that.
In fact, for me, having a female protagonist is a huge plus.
The game was developed by SHIFT UP, a South Korean studio, and honestly, Korean and other Asian developers have a particular talent for creating games with incredibly polished character designs, stylish aesthetics and protagonists that are memorable for more than one reason. 😄
But reducing Stellar Blade entirely to EVE’s appearance would also be unfair.
Underneath all of that is a genuinely good action game. The combat feels responsive and stylish, boss fights are satisfying, the environments look incredible, and the post-apocalyptic science-fiction world has enough mystery to keep you interested in what happened and where the story is going.

Story, setting, aesthetic, music and almost everything is a giant homage to Nier, and almost all of the aforementioned is an inferior copy but the combat is its one redeeming quality. It surpasses Automata's by quite a margin. Stylish, satisfying and fun. You can get the game just for that and you will have a blast. 9/10.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The game puts a lot of stock in the visual presentation, and boy. It does deliver on this front. EVE is certainly made to be quite beautiful from head to toe. Plus, there is so much emphasis on her body as she does her athletic flips and maneuvers on the battlefield. It's no surprise that a highlight of the game is finding outfits (skimpy ones at that) to dress her up as many times as you want.
EVE is a very pretty character, but she lacks a bit of charm. I found myself just changing her outfit (because you find so many of them) just to mix up her look.
Still, I wish the combat and story were better executed. It's a beautiful game (with a visually stunning main character), but it leaves a bit to be desired beneath the surface.
Combat is flashy. Lots of flipping around and whatnot. It all looks COOL (when it works), but it all comes off as clunky. What do I mean by that? Well, for one thing, you do TOO LITTLE DAMAGE. Like, it feels like you're swinging around a wet noodle instead of a sword.
Regular enemies take too many hits to take down, and this is further emphasized with boss fights. Yeesh, it feels like I am tickling foes down with every little sword swing. Even your special moves typically aren't doing enough damage. Like, congrats, you can do every perfect parry and dodge counter at your disposal, but it's not like it deals significant extra damage as a little reward for doing so.
Maybe it's just a me thing, but I was just wondering why I felt so darn weak throughout the game (even as you get more upgrades). I think they just made the enemies to be giant HP sponges. Fighting them became quite tedious (I even experimented with Story Mode at parts to see if it sped things up, and it was just marginally faster).
Fighting mobs is extra tiresome because a lot of the moves were evidentially geared for 1v1 combat. There were so many points where I was dodging one enemy's attack, but my counterattack hit someone else. This is what I mean by clunky. It looks neat, but it could have been cleaned up a bit more to feel less awkward.
As for the story, it's OK. Just OK.
It's not bad by any means, but so much of the mystery was tied to finding corpses on the ground that would leave behind a tidbit of info. Here's the thing...
When you have most of your corpses basically saying the same thing, it gets old fast. Like, I get it. The world is grim. Most of the corpses just basically repeat the same doom and gloom with their little clue.
Not to mention, I think the plot could have been spruced up a bit more. It only got somewhat interesting toward the end, but the rest of the plot hides behind uninteresting sidequests that just tried to paint the world as desolate and sad.
By the time the mystery is solved, it's like. OK, and?
But yeah, my friend described this game in the best way. It's a "B" game, and that's all right. It's not bad. It's not great. It's at least a decent game in its own ways.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I was originally going to give this a reluctant "Recommend" at 4/10, but looking at the price history, this game has never dropped below $40. This is a $15–$20 game at absolute best.
I gave this game 45 hours and did a 100% run just desperately waiting for it to get good. How I felt at hour 10 is exactly how I felt at hour 45. Here is exactly why this game is garbage:
The "Assets" Wear Off Fast
Even the novelty of staring at the MC’s ass wears off after 10 to 15 hours tops. I swear half the "hidden gem" reviews for this game are written by people who exclusively play hentai games.
The Combat is an Illusion
- The 4 points I gave this game are entirely for the combat visuals and the satisfying sound of the parry, but it cannot carry a 30+ hour game.
- Abilities ruin the game: The second you start using your Beta/Burst skills, you break the game. They have practically infinite uptime and act as free, instant poise-breaks that interrupt any boss animation. The only way to find actual friction or challenge is to artificially handicap yourself and pretend your skills don't exist.
- Bloated mechanics: You have three defensive options (parry, blue dodge, purple dodge). Why do we need 2 dodge types!!!? Only one boss in the entire game actually forces you to chain them together.
- Zero impact: Hitting enemies feels like cutting styrofoam. There is zero weight to the weapons.
- "Super Saiyan" Mode: Halfway through, you get a super mode that barely does enough damage to kill a single elite trash mob. Against bosses, it’s just another free stun-lock tool.
Hard Mode is Artificial Garbage
- I’m not a difficulty elitist, but the scaling here is a joke. Hard Mode doesn't change enemy AI; it just gives everything 300% more health while you do 50% less damage. A fight that takes 2 minutes on Normal just becomes a 5-minute slog on Hard. It doesn't make you a better player, it just wastes your time. Out of the entire roster (DLC included), there are maybe 3 bosses that are actually fun/challenging on Hard.
A 5-Hour Game Buried in Padding
- When I did my NG+ boss-rush run, I realized how empty this game actually is. If you strip away the endless, tedious fetch quests and the "run around collecting 1,000,000 corpses" open-world filler, the actual core game is about 5 hours long. It feels more like a demo.
Everything Else
- The Story: Absolute garbage. No character makes any emotional impact on you. Every time a character died or I had to fight someone, I felt the exact same way I feel about killing a random trash mob.
- The Music: Why is mellow pop music playing while I'm in combat/exploring? I turned the music off 10 minutes into the game.
- I really wanted to like this game, but when the combat is your only redeeming factor and you can't even balance that correctly, the game falls apart. It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game with the potential for cool combat. If you feel like you have to play this game then wait for a massive sale or skip it entirely.

Stellar Blade is an amazingly executed game with some of the most fluid and unique combat I have seen from a hack and slash in a long, long, long time. What I like the most about this game is the gear system which really can modify the gameplay experience and even your own playstyle in the form of bonuses to attacks, combos or even the amount of damage you take. It really encourages you to look around everywhere you possibly can to basically minmax and powerhouse your way through the whole time, it became super fun and rewarding once I got used to the parrying and realizing how fun this combat really is. Story in Stellar Blade is surprisingly good. The only note that I have is that I never had a "wow" moment due to overabundance of clues and foreshadowing but that's just a storytelling choice, not a blunder.
Music in the game is really good. To the point that I wanted to turn camp music off so I could continue listening to world soundtrack but camp music was good too in its own right.
Combat is a well implemented basics of action game combat and it held up very well till the end of the game. But if you are to enter a fight with several enemies with stunlock attacks it might be a bit frustrating. Some bosses also have invulnerability at some HP thresholds, which can make you to waste abilities/resources. Also some of the posture break attacks are available only in one small linear section for no reason which felt really weird.
Visually game is not my cup of tea. We have USSR-French sections, your-basic-sci-fi sections and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ open world-ish deserts. Yes, plural, two of them. Two plain, boring, huge deserts. But there was always a nice butt on screen, so it wasn't a problem most of the time. Even in navigation puzzles devs gave us so much yellow paint that I needed to take only a quick peek into the world to understand where to go before focusing back on main attraction.
And yeah, there is too much yellow paint. Like the only available path forward is highlighted by 3 separate decals. (Maybe overabundance of story clues reflects devs expectation of players' cognitive abilities...)
That said I really enjoyed linear sections of the game, they felt well designed and exploring them was interesting enough.
Deserts are the whole ugly beast on their own. They are so yellow that even yellow paint was not as obvoius there. They are 90% boring plain sand with too many enemies near every POI. Navigation is so bad that devs invented some speed boost that you have only in deserts just to reduce travel time. Quests there are mostly fetch quests where you run back and forth and needed object only spawns when you are at required quest stage. Btw some side quests made me run back into first linear section like 5 times due to being "chained quests" with nothingburger reward.
That said I enjoyed the game and late game where it's all just linear sections made me forget all the frustration and burnout I felt after doing solid amount of side quests in deserts.
I recommend this game only if you either rush the story or play the story + the side quests that expand the lore (even if some side story lines were clearly abandoned or half designed)
And maybe search for some nano suits. Sucks that the best looking and most "nano" ones are locked behind NG+ and NG++\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Slight learning curve when moving through the first zone but lots of checkpoints make it forgiving.
Despite giving the player the option for some 4-5 button combo attacks they aren't necessary to take down bosses and can be used at players discretion. (Which I enjoy)
Large amounts of side mission content.
The games art style, while not hyper realistic suites the playstyle well and offers many cosmetic options.

Some parts of the worldbuilding are a little silly or simplistic, but even with all of that the overall atmosphere is quite cool. It is quite obvious where the developers drew their inspiration and what references they used, but I don't mind—games of such caliber don't come out very often.

If you are looking for a Souls-like or Devil May Cry like experience, it is neither. When I played through it in the hard mode from the start, the game made you play really defensive way and made you use your attacks very conservatively. There are 3 difficulty settings that you can choose from and these are rather weird.
I haven't tested the easy mode, but I suspect it to be easy enough that anyone can get through the game.
I tested the normal mode on my NG+ run and that was rather easy too, but I wouldn't judge the normal mode based on my NG+ experience and I've heard from my friends that it is quite good on your first time playing through the game. If the normal mode gets too easy for you, you can bump up the difficulty to hard mode.
The hard mode is very hard when you first start the game. You die in 1 combo or 2 hits and enemies take a lot of punishment. Later in the game this is not a big issue, because you get very powerful abilities and then the hard mode may get rather easy if you do your build right.
So I would recommend any new player to start the game at the normal mode and change the difficulty when the game feels too hard or easy. The jump between different difficulty settings is rather large, so it might be hard to find a good balance between normal and hard mode.
I played through the game in the hard mode the whole time and I can tell you that it took quite a while to get the first boss down, but I'm stubborn and I didn't want to change the difficulty down at any point. I still found the game fun even though it was maybe unnecessarily frustrating at times.

The story might not be the strongest part of the game. It is serviceable, but nothing super special.

Which in fact they did sold it to me with this free advertisement and surprisingly, its a really good game with rich characters and story that you grow attached to quite quickly.
This game is another LEGENDARY S tier.
