I haven't been so excited for a game release since the remake of Dead Space. I've been following this game for years and I'm not in the least bit disappointed. It may not be "AAA Quality", has some bugs and choppiness here and there, but man this is a labor of love worth supporting. Not enough good dinosaur games out there. Thank you for bringing this to life.

The designs, the music, the ideas behind this game are all very unique and it legitimately was a very fun time. Now I will warn, this game is JANK. Capital letters jank. This isn't to be discouraging or discrediting, this was made by a very small team and seemed to be their first time making a game. It has some weird hit boxes, very severe frame rate drops at important times, empty levels, and some frustrating design choices. This is not a game you play for a Dark Souls like experience; this is a game you play because you think dinosaurs are cool and you love the premise behind the game. The aesthetics carry. I was excited for each and every boss. Some fights and designs are better than others (Speed, you're awesome but you destroy my PC). But overall each boss was a joy to combat against, and hit that child-like wonder of "Wow a triceratops with a giant whip, badass". That's why you buy this game. It's far from perfect, but it's imaginative in just the way I wanted it to be. With some experience under their belt, I hope Team Spino continues to use their imagination to push out more games.

Don't change the difficulty. That's all I'm gonna say... The rush you get when you take these bosses down is solid. I beat the game in 10 hours. Yes its short, but considering its a game made by 1 person with this level of mechanics I will give credit where credit is due.
It is fully worth the 20$ knowing the developer has put everything into it and from what it sounds like will be probably releasing additional content along the way. All the boss fights feel unique, are solid and the levels look amazing.
Are there bugs, yep what game doesn't have them. The dev is actively fixing them though unlike some other games where you wait months for something to get fixed.
I've played ds3 and elen ring and some of the fights are very much on par with those fights. So for anyone complaining about how hard the game is... Get gud kid cause I can't parry to save my life and I beat it.
I look forward to this devs next project or the expansion to this one. Honestly would love if he took these concepts and did a multiplayer game like a zoids type game. The dev has all the basics covered.

The Good
- Dinosaurs (Really Cool) + Blades (Really Cool) = Dinoblade (Hell Yeah)
- Obviously animations are the main selling point, and imo they do in fact hit. Attacks from the player and bosses are a combination of dinosaurs attacking with tails and stomps, but mostly different ways of swinging the sword, and let me tell ya, watching different dinosaurs swinging swords and other weapons in different ways does NOT get old. Finishing kill animations are also epic, though not every boss has a really cool one
- The models from the dinosaurs themselves are just really cool, and with the variety of dinos and the weapons they use, really gets you excited for what the next boss will be
- Boss movesets vary from fast and blinding, to behemoths coming in like a truck, and they all feel extremely impactful and actually got me moving in real life
- I was scared at first seeing the upgrading, worried that it may make the game too easy, but honestly the difficulty is pretty solid so far
- You can both play parry or dodge playstyle, however I think getting used to the parry is extremely satisfying to get right
- The special moves and summons are simple, but absolutely EPIC
- The Dark Form is actually a pretty well made ability, extremely powerful, but leaves you with no stamina
- The different weapons providing small changes and buffs are cool, but not so significant, they visually look sick though
- Specific combinations of abilities being able to take out 80% of a boss' hp is pretty fcking sick lmao (Discovered during boss rush, didn't break my main playthrough)
The Bad
- This game is very obviously NOT a triple A or even double A title, whatever is not the main focal point of the game, can seem clunky or straight up ugly, however I think the resources did go to the more important parts of the game
- Environment can be bland and for the most part look like lower quality textures, especially the terrain. Though far away/background visuals on the horizon don't look half bad
- UI is the most UI looking UI to ever UI
- Space between bosses seem kinda bland, you're just running, picking up resources and defeating normal enemies, which are honestly quite insignificant to fight, you don't really need to put much effort into them, and mostly feel like padding
- There are also some pretty important items scattered around the map, though there are no exploration mechanics, just running around, which is pretty boring, and more padding
- The titular "flashing red attack that can't be blocked" is present in this game, however some of them can be parried, which can cause for some confusion, needing trial and error to figure out what can or cannot be parried
- The Therizino boss fight can get a lil clunky due to how the boss attacks + the camera
- Stamina upgrades increase max stamina, but don't increase stamina regen rate (I don't think it does?), causing for long waiting times for stamina to regen back
- Spoilers ahead, but imo the dumbest decision the devs have made for the game. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU MAKE THE DEMON BOSS 2ND PHASE A HUMANOID, IT DEFEATS LIKE HALF THE PURPOSE OF THE GAME. Not only that, the lore ends up being just some guys trapped in dinos, which is SO FCKING LAME, just make the funny absurd dino with weapons game have some over the top dumb, dopamine hit lore, it's just baffling to me. Honestly it's a damn shame cause the first phase of the boss is my favorite in the game
- The 2nd phases of the final 2 bosses are both pretty bad imo, some of the attacks feel like they were made just for the sake of being difficult, just need to spam dodge or block and hope you don't get stunlocked
The Random
- Tank's passive is so OP that i just chose to not use it for most of the game lol
- I honestly don't know what to think about the upgrading resource of this game, it's really easy to get, picking it up in the world + defeating normal enemies, but the increases in strength and the other attributes don't seem too strong as to make the boss fights trivial either
- Idk what to feel about the demon dino speaking in English, feels like noises and subs would've been just fine
- Boss rush mode is meh
- This game does NOT need fall damage lol
Overall Thoughts
Personally, I had a blast with the game. The game is honestly just a dopamine rush, and a fun time watching dinosaurs just duke it out, with solid combat to master. The Good:
- The atmospheric setting of each section of the game feel appropriate, immersive, sometimes beautiful sometimes spooky.
- Using abilities feels quite powerful
- Getting proper parries rewards consistent timing patterns that you expect from any Souls-like game
- Cinematics are enjoyable, bosses look intimidating. (Most of the time.)
- Boss fight music is fun
- Dinosaurs
- Swords
- Need I say more?
The Bad:
- Finnicky environment hitboxes can be frustrating. Small rocks and thin shrubs or trees can completely block your movement.
- Getting lost- It is EASY to lose track of where you are in the map, and where you need to go to progress the game. There is no map feature or function that allows you to keep tabs on things.
- There are multiple areas of lack in the UI- You cannot even see how much XP you need to level up, it only keeps track of your current XP level, so every time you're just grinding blind.
- THERE IS NO AMBIENT resonant regeneration. (Mana) You only have a couple options for getting it back. 1) You kill things or find blue orbs, and you get a miniscule amount back. 2) You perfectly time parries, and you get a miniscule amount back. 3) You die and start over, or 4) You visit a save stone. That's it.
- The benefits of leveling up do not feel appropriately linear, either. I quickly determined that upgrading strength falls off hard. Upgrading resonance and health has much more tangible benefits. Sadly, basic attacking seems to be the worst possible way to play this game so far.
- Staggering bosses does not give you a proper punish system, like in other Souls-like games.
- Bugs can consistently or crucially ruin your gameplay experience. Losing to a boss fair and square is fine. Losing to a boss because their attack FX were INVISIBLE is quite annoying. Losing to a boss because they're input reading you and perfectly counter what you were trying to do, feels unfair.
To my knowledge, these bugs have been fixed within the next two days from when I wrote this review.
- There is a boss in this game that completely robs you of a significant mechanic/part of the character that you can upgrade. When you incorporate this mechanic into your strategy for killing bosses, you get completely punished for having spent your points for that mechanic.
- There was not a single way to upgrade or reduce the charge speed throughout the entire game, which feels bad.
- On the very last boss, after I BEAT THE LAST PHASE, I somehow DIED during the quicktime cinematic? And I had to do the entire boss fight over. I actually had to take a 20 minute break, check whether or not that was how that event went for others, and when I got enough confidence it was just a bug, I did it over again. The second time I BEAT the final boss, the quick time event happened, and I can say with confidence it was indeed a bug. There were moments where the prompt to press just flat out disappeared and all progress was halted, and I finally got the bar filled. But it refreshed the bar, so I kept mashing. I finished the cinematic, but the quicktime bar never went away. Clearly a bug that made me fail the first time. Felt absolutely AWFUL.
To my knowledge, this bug has been fixed within the next two days from when I wrote this review.
Concluding thoughts- Really not bad for someone's first game ever. I enjoyed it. I think it was worth the money I paid for it, on sale or full price. I think the game can be polished into something even better with some updates that address quality of life. If DLC came out to expand the boss fights, or introduce new mechanics, etc. I would consider buying that.

Patagotitan in the room, the game needs polish. The presentation and combat doesn’t always do the game’s incredible concept justice. But you can tell this was made by a VERY small team that believed in what they were making. HOWEVER.
I can’t help but think the game would’ve been even more fulfilled if it had fully embraced its over-the-top nature instead of going for another slow and grounded Souls-like with light attack, heavy attack, dodge/parry and cooldown abilities. You’re playing a dino sword fighting game. That’s such an insane premise that I kept wishing the gameplay leaned into that energy with an over the top, stylish hack and slash game, air combos etc. I’m not necessarily talking about DMC levels of depth, but something flashy closer to PlatinumGames where pure "rule of cool" let such a wild concept truly shine. (there’s an insane PS2 era action game here I can’t help but see hiding underneath!!)
I feel the same way about the environments. This could’ve fully embraced epic prehistoric fantasy, but instead many areas feel like places you could find in any FromSoft game. (still found the final boss arena to be very cool) To the game’s credit, every new area gets noticeably more fun, and by the last 2 areas I was genuinely having a good time.
The boss designs all look incredible (big fan of Horn), but I often felt the camera work and presentation didn’t let me properly appreciate them. If there’s ever a crowdfunded artbook, I’ll be first in line. Back to the boss presentation, the little finishing blow animations lack weight, impact and proper camera work, i couldn’t even tell what’s happening most of the time, i can’t tell when an enemy smaller than me is about to attack, there’s clearly a visibility and camera problem.
Ultimately, despite my mixed feelings about the genre the game chose, the vision the developer had matters the most, I still beat it and genuinely enjoyed myself, especially during those later areas. I really hope the game keeps getting updated because there’s obviously something special here and I hope its ongoing success allows it to fully become what it wants to be. I’ll check back at every major update & i’ll be here for hopefully future projects !!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Is this game perfect? Absolutely not.
Have I stopped having fun since I started playing? Absolutely not!
The game is pretty, especially when you get out of the canyon. The combat, while not perfect, is fun and not overly difficult. So if this being a souls-like puts you off, allow me to say that I'm terrible at Souls games and I've beaten most bosses so far on at least my second try. Except for Shield.
My biggest complaint is the music. Most of the time it's tranquil and then switches to metal when you're in a boss fight. The dev should've just leaned hard into a metal soundtrack for the whole game because the tranquil stuff isn't doing it for me.
All in all, it's been fun so far and money well spent. I'm also super proud of the dev for starting with a bomb animation on YouTube and turning it into this great game. Here's hoping for Dinoblade 2!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

A couple of days later, after coming home from my final exam, I decided to finally launch it and DAMN. This was so peak. Easily the best decision I made this month.
At first, I thought it was going to be Dark Souls with dinosaurs. Turns out... IT'S SEKIRO WITH DINOSAURS. The moment the game introduced the deflect mechanic, I knew it was gonna be so good.
The gameplay feels amazing, and the variety of skills and swords is really cool. The game's vibe really reminds me of SPORE in a way. It's unique. One of the things that I struggled with is the lack of a map because there were many times when I was not sure if I had explored the whole area. A map would be a really nice improvement imo.
Would I recommend it? Are you kidding me? A souls-like game with dinosaurs? How do you read that and not buy it immediately?

But seriously, I generally avoid souls-likes because I'm trash at them and I like my games easy. This one drew me in with dinoswords, and kept me in with its simplicity. Solid graphics aside it feels a lot like this game would've been something released in 2001, but heavily lauded for being ahead of its time, which doesn't sound like the compliment that I intend it to be. The gameplay itself invokes a sense of nostalgia, mixed with souls-like combat and dinosaurs. This would CERTAINLY have been a "pass the PS2 controller around with your friends on a school night and create a formative memory" type of a game.
While the level designs are a bit flat, the variety of assets (especially after the first level) add a lot of interest as you make your way through the game. However, the developers' skills as character designers and animators REALLY comes alive with the bosses themselves. The styracosaurus boss, Horn? Absolute peak design. The sound design is okay, but the soundtrack itself is great. The boss music is legendary, very Mick Gordon-esque with a primal flare to it.
The controls aren't the greatest but they're not bad, certainly not a deal breaker. It took me 6.5 hours to beat (again, suck at souls-like. I spent about 50 or so deaths on Akai), and it was fun the whole time. Not every boss had a perfect kit (the sty may have been gorgeous, but he was also annoying), but there were more fun mechanics than frustrating ones.
11/10 ending, it's the perfect way to wrap up a game that takes its story seriously for... well, for being what it is.
If you want a game where you can go in, have fun, and get out, it's worth the $20 easy.
