There was a demon king who got slain by a great hero 200 years ago, and now the lands live more or less in harmony, adventurers roaming them to slay wandering monsters. But peasants aren't very good at identifying monsters while running for their lives, so verifying these adventurers' quest results before they get their rewards falls to you.
The gameplay loop is one part Paper's Please, and one part Mastermind - that old board game about getting the right colours in the right order. By day, you'll be making sure adventurer licenses are up to date, quests haven't expired, and monster loot matches the monster the quests asked for. By night, you'll be cooking for the same adventurers you just put through bureaucratic hell, using the same loot they brought home as ingredients in the right order to create a la carte recipes on demand. Chapters after the first also have their own little gameplay gimmicks added to the mix, linked to whatever story you're dealing with today (for example, you may be asked to compile rumours adventurers have picked up from across the continent, to help the search for a princess who fled her home). The loop is fun and engaging, if you have a mind for light puzzles, but the gameplay isn't the focus here. It's moreso the characters and the story.
Cliché though the world may be, the characters come off as passionate individuals instead of cardboard cutouts, and the minor events of their lives are fun to follow as they get into the rough-and-tumble of adventuring - with all the glamour, and grime, that implies. This game isn't high literature, and it's not a puzzle to keep you thinking all day, but it is a fun romp through a cozy fantasy setting. I would compare the feeling to A Hat In Time.
The only downside to this game in my time with its first few episodes is that the script can be rather misleading sometimes; for example, in the first cooking segment, a character asks for shaved ice when really she's just asking for any cold dessert - shaved ice is its own dish, so I got stuck on this one for a while.
Unless you're following a guide, you will almost certainly run into a moment where you feel like reloading a save because some miscommunication caused you to make a mistake. Doing so will cost you some time (because loading a save takes you to the beginning of the entire gameplay sequence, not the point the save was made at), but if you can stomach that, there's a fun game here. I would recommend Galvatein, if you're looking for a casual, lighthearted experience in a fantasy world that feels comfortable and familiar.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Its disappointing that every single thing from story, character, background art and music was AI generated. The developers say they hired artists to redraw but sad that not one original thing went into the game. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tFinished the game rn (it has 6 chapters so far) and i really enjoyed the papers' please type of gameplay and at the same time the characters each have their own personality that i really enjoyed reading. The cooking is also quite fun but its really limited rn so i hope we get more chances to cook dishes. What i would suggest next is to have some kind of character stories added to know there past because currently there's only like 1 character that i would consider to be like that. overall this was a fun experience and i would gladly continue playing when new updates come.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAfter finishing the game twice, this game feels like a visual novel with gameplay mechanic similar to Paper Please. Recommended, if you are like visual novel game mixed with puzzle gameplay. You play as a guild receptionist and have to review quest for each adventure. Sometimes the adventure completely confuse the quest target for different monster or the quest come with confusing riddle style. Right now the game is very linear with little variety, so each run feels the same, though there are a few different endings.

It truly makes you feel like a guild receptionist, and that's something I never knew I wanted to experience. Sure, you're not the one heading out on dangerous adventures, slaying monsters, or exploring dungeons, but don't we all need a break from being the hero sometimes?
Instead, you get to experience the world from a completely different perspective. You're the person behind the desk, helping adventurers along their journeys, listening to their stories, and becoming a part of their lives. You may not be the one writing their adventures, but you still get to play an important role in them. There's something surprisingly satisfying and wholesome about that.
This is actually the first game like this I've ever played. I never imagined I'd enjoy something like this, but what initially caught my attention was the art style. It's cute, beautifully drawn, and—did I mention cute already? Seriously, the art direction deserves some appreciation. She gives off the impression that she can't stand you as the receptionist, constantly making faces, throwing insults, and acting annoyed by your existence. But I get the feeling she doesn't actually dislike you nearly as much as she'd have you believe. That contrast is part of what makes her so entertaining.
And honestly? I could keep going, because I genuinely enjoy the entire cast.

The game mentioned using AI for concepts, although I would have preferred that they use more original human-based art as there have been some inconsistencies with the artstyle. The vibes of the game can sometimes make you feel like playing on a powerpoint presentation, but I like the graphics. Maybe an option for autoclick on the dialogue can help with the game. The game reminds me of Quarantine zone but this game is less of a hassle for me since I liked the gameplay more since each characters have different stories while I review their quests, and also the nightime of handling the guild tavern at night I enjoyed that a lot too where I'd have to guess the (???) ingredient based on the description of the recipe and find the specific ingredient that does what the description says in the sub ingredients. Except for the part where the adventurers already accepted a quest of a higher rank than their own, cause normally you would have to confirm with the guild receptionist if you can take the quest to asses if you can handle it based on your ability and rank, but in this game the adventurer already took the quest and has defeated said monster and I have to review their quest but reject their quest reward when they had already did the job and returned alive so would that should be props in and of itself cause they took down a dangerous monster that is above their current rank only to be turned away cause they have a lower rank so they risked their lives for nothing which would dishearten anyone. and the riddle quests can go ahead and shove it but those are the only grief I have of this game really other than that I like casual games like these that doesn't have to be dark but enjoy the ride.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

With that out of the way. Galvatein is, as its name suggests, set in the fairly standard JRPG style adventurer's guild of a high-magic fantasy world. You are a quest handler by day and a cook by night.
The quest desk gameplay will make up the bulk of your time here. There's the by now unavoidable comparison to the famed Papers, Please - although I feel like this game's interpretation of it is fresh enough to feel distinct without being as gruelling. Check quest details, check loot, check validity dates, all the stuff you'd expect from this sort of thing. Each chapter puts a new spin on things, as you might expect - although some spins work better than others (I'll get into this later).
The other major part of the gameplay is running a little restaurant after guild hours. You use the loot you've collected at the desk to make food and drinks for the adventurers - but rather than asking for a specific thing, they'll give conditions for what they want and it's up to you to figure out which dish is best and how to cook it, using a main loot ingredient, then several sub ingredients that process it. The process is charming, but... quite simple. The game all but spells out for you what the right answer is. Still, I quite like this part of the game and would like to see it expanded upon in future chapters.
To get back to the deskwork part of the game: each chapter has its own additional requirement. Some of them, like collecting stories from the adventurers that drop by or the addition of a herb guide, I quite liked. The one that drove me crazy was the riddle quest chapter - first because it ignores the rules of every other chapter (all the checks you normally do are handwaved; the ONLY thing that matters are the riddles) and because some of them just don't make sense (looking at you, pirate 'map').
This then leads to my main complaint about the game: save states. You're not allowed to save DURING a desk or restaurant phase; the game autosaves at every checkpoint between. This means, if you get something wrong and want to go back, you have to start all. Over. AGAIN. This isn't too bad if it's obvious what the right answer was, but in the riddle chapter I had to try four times over to get a riddle right near the end, which meant clicking through every single riddle on the way there. Just let us make manual saves whenever we want, for crying out loud. This is my only major complaint.
Aside from that, I very much like what the game is doing here. The art is very good and has a clean, anime-style aesthetic that I quite like. The characters are all very memorable and charming and I'm glad to see that the women aren't all wearing revealing outfits. The stories are... somewhat predictable, but honestly I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary here: it tells the sort of tale you'd expect, and honestly I'm fine with that. Does what it says on the tin.
The only thing I'd warn against here is that the game is fairly short, even taking into consideration that this is still in development - if you don't care about getting a perfect run like me you'll probably blaze through it in less than two hours and there is almost no replayability. There are separate endings, but you can just reload a save from before the branch point and pick the other ending, so it doesn't make much of a difference to the overall gameplay loop. And, unlike Papers, Please, there is no endless mode (yet).
The introduction of the adventurer grades was interesting, but the matchup knowledge was used... only once, I think? I'd REALLY like it if future chapters introduced a way for us to be allowed to choose who goes on what quest, maybe even construct parties balanced around taking down certain monsters - but I guess that's more guild *manager* than quest handler. Idea for a sequel, perhaps...?
Overall, a pleasant enough experience if you're into this sort of thing. The devs seem to have a clear idea of the kind of game they're trying to make and are sticking to it, so I hope that future updates bring it even closer to that vision.
