\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tnot sure if this is the developer's latest game but it seems like it is. the UI is much better (though maybe less flavorful for the time period but whatever) than in previous games. this game plays like a more in-depth balance of power, you allocate funds to do different things like sending economic aid to a country and then signing a defensive pact to boost your prestige. more prestige by end game year means you win. invasions are possible but discouraged and war mechanics are greatly simplified. that's fine, you are a high ranking bureaucrat and not a general, this is not a wargame.
it starts off really almost mind-numbingly simple and then as you try to outcompete your rival and stop them from flipping some key strategic nations it starts getting a lot more complicated overall while still being easy to understand which is good. unfortunately this game does suffer from the same issue this developer's other games suffer from, which is a lack of info.
i can see the end of month reports but none of them seem to explain why sometimes im up almost 1000 prestige and then the next month its -170 other than a vague "relationship change". invasions aren't really clear either, especially the korean war event. i can't actually tell if the troops im sending are impacting the war or its all narrative based. you get a thing that tells you "government forces victory is certain" and some updates on the conflict like if one side seized land and what impact it has, but actual troop losses don't seem to be included in the reports.
i see there's an option for mod support which is great, i know the browser version has stuff like an MGS mode and a trump world one so that's fun. the game right now could use some more polish, there are some UI glitches here and there like with "key not found" being displayed in french, i had one CTD in the menu when clicking on start new game while in a game. more content would also be nice, but what's there is decent. i like the addition of national focuses that adds more strategy but also a bit more realism if you want that.
i'd recommend it overall but the price is a bit high for a simple early access game at the moment. maybe like $8-$10 would be more accurate for now imo.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI would definitely recommend this game. It's a unique play that is both simple and difficult. I love history, but this is an era that I had not really ever done a deep dive on. I of course know the highlights, like just about everyone else, but that was it. Here recently, I had been learning about The Great Leap Forward (terrible name for such a great leap backwards), Vietnam, and Cambodia with its "Killing Fields" during this era which sparked my interest in this game (man what an evil, bloody, and tumultuous time!).
This game has not only entertained, but enlightened me through introduction to events and concepts, which because I have an inquisitive mind, induced me to research in more detail for myself. Things I can definitely appreciate. The small business creator, whom you would be supporting, takes pride in his work and is both responsive and interactive with his base. Very cool!
Lastly, my personally philosophy is if a game can give you more hours of play from it than you paid for it in dollars, it is well worth it. I bought the collective bundle and crossed that threshold already, with many more hours I want to sink in it.
Bonus: if you do try and like this game, I would also recommend his other works on Barbarossa and Stalingrad, which I also own.
