What I Liked
My problem with games like Mount and Blade is that they are too complicated. What I like about this game is that it focuses on the combat most of the time, leaving me to do things that I like to do. The base building, more like camp building, is also pretty fun. It is nice to go from a few small tents to a fully decked out camp that looks neat almost anywhere it can be placed.
What I Did Not Like
While I do like the game, there are just some minor issues that prevent it from being great. While the combat is good and the game attempts to build on to it, the layers end up being boring. Eventually a new weapon type is unlocked, or a new building to attack, but it just never adds to the game. I am still going to point to point zerging until I win.
The initial load time is bonkers. It slags up my entire PC, and a couple times I had to force close the game.
Why I Stopped Playing
I enjoyed what I did over the 12 or so hours I played, but I wasn’t interested in doing the same thing for the next 12 hours.

But before that let me get into the positive sides of this game:
This game has a somewhat better UI and I did not feel like my screen was getting cluttered, unlike in the previous game made by Darkmatter Games;
This game is more approachable for newbies and developers try to introduce new mechanics gradually (unlike in "Britannia");
I like that NPCs are now actually stilized "people" instead of some figurines inteded to represent "people";
There is a bigger variety of weapons to choose from, though it doesn't mean that there is a lot;
Now onto why I can't recommend this game right now (and, probably, ever, which is unfortunate):
Approachability of this game is accomplished not only by polishing the introductory aspects of the game, but also by dumbing down every aspect of managing your "warband". While the Japanese in their "medieval" period did not wage wars like romans of antiquity did — it doesn't feel like developers tried to introduce players to a different approach to warfare. It feels like "Warlord: Britannia" was stripped of many features and moved to a japanese island ten centuries in the future. This is my biggest issue with the game and I have no hope that developers will change this, as it seems like a game-design flaw made in the earliest stages of development;
While UI is not as cluttered as in "Britannia" it still sucks ass. Especially army management. I hope that somewhere down the line developers will add additional QOL features regarding the army-management and distribution of weapons/armor;
The game is far too easy and unbalanced. After the first hour in-game I no longer felt like there was any campaign-wiping level of threat left for me. In "Britannia" you eventually reach a snow-ball stage, but it happens much later into the game.
So while I will not call "Warlord: Awaji" a bad game: I can not recommend it. I wish developers best of luck with maintaining this game and developing a potential next installment in the series and hope that others players may enjoy this game more than I did.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game was a genuine nothing game. What you see in the trailer is it. There's nothing to actually do unless you like building bases with only like 30 tiles gifted to you. The progression tree for troops is tiny, the stats barely matter since you get the estates and farmland back after they die and the weapon play is so uninspiring it's a wonder you don't just go to sleep or look at insta while putting your soldiers on battle charge mode until they're done. I was never once challenged during the entire game and the only times I died were when I tried to kill forts all on my lonesome, or when I clicked off for half a second and drowned in the water because I ended up forgetting I was playing this game. I guess if you like walking simulators with the sounds of people blowing up and stacking sounds whenever you alt tab and come back to your ears getting hit by a "RAAAGH AWWOOOO AUGGHGHHH MOSHIWAKENAI KOROSUWAKEARU!" all in half a second, then buy the game. The Formation editor is a cool feature but it's trivialized by the fact that the orders can only be given to the entire army so the only strategies available are either to maintain position or full frontal charge making clever manouvering impossible (such as manouvering only the cavalry behind the enemy army). The camp creation is fun but there's no real management involved. Diplomacy and trading are very barebone. This game has a lot of cool ideas but delivers none.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

While not immediately obvious this game dose have some strategy where you can attack certain settlements that are protecting others, or go head on and take both the settlements garrison and a raid from a neighboring Samurai Mansion, as well as the ability to customize the position of your troops when you go to combat, this game can be both simple or complex depending on how you look at the combat.
I would also ask you to ignore most of the negative reviews, while there are some occasional performance issues and the load time into the map can be lengthy, the ones that seem to be the least insightful are the ones about repetitive gameplay, in which thins game is not, the starter region evolves as you go north, and when you venture south into the 2nd region the combat switches up with both the enemies and you getting new equipment, with 10 regions the game is constantly evolving as you progress, it feels as if a lot of reviews have only been spent walking around the 1st region with no idea of the havoc that is available in the later regions.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game is so magnificent and fun. The developer is highly responsive with the community and the combat is amazing. I could tell this game would improve a lot. The upgrade system is great. Although I might have some suggestions that can improve the game.
1. It may just be me but moving around is a hassle even with fast travels at checkpoints or mansions. Especially before you get a horse. I also found at that if I raze a checkpoint, I can't fast travel to it. I would like it if I could fast travel to hamlets at least.
2. I've noticed how important coins are for resources and diplomacy actions. I have a suggestion where you could generate passive income from your free lands. With free estate lands producing more income. Of course once you give those lands away you would not be able to have income from it since it now belongs to your promoted warrior.
3. When I paid for an allied army to support me I cannot believe how unbelievably slow they were once you get into fighting. Most of the time the battle would already be done before the allied party could even help. One time they just stood there watching me massecure the militia or monks. I definitely suggest an allied party speed up though I'm not sure how complicated the code really is for ai parties.
4. Maybe it is a bit of a stretch but can fancy shelters/food also supply regular needs? Like make the shelter also support regular troops like Genin if no more fancy warriors are available. I just want to replace my huts with tents since they look much cooler.
In general I completely enjoy this game still. I really don't want to bash on what the developer can do to their own game. I have just finished conquering the northern part of Awaji.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

However, I wished the game had more depth. Once I had around 20 troops the game loop boiled down to walk to a settlement, hold R, wait for troops to easily kill 3-18 people, repeat. I love that there are options for treating captured settlements like in Total War and Bannerlord, but only raze/capture seemed to have real repercussions.
Another issue is the combat. One major moment in my playthrough was the first clan sending an army of 20 men to my camp after I had captured enough of their farms. I only had 12 troops at the time so it was a complete slaughter and honestly it was really cool to get some consequence for my actions. Once it was just down to me though, I realized how easy the AI was to cheese and my camp kept giving me 100% health, on the off chance I was careless enough to actually get hit.
Within 3.5 hours I was able to wipe out the first two hostile clans, trade with the nearby neutral factions, and grow an army of 30 high level troops with high ranking officers. I'd love to keep playing and unlock more equipment, expand my camp and territory, and interact with more clans but the main loop isn't enough for me to keep playing unfortunately.
So I can't recommend the game yet, especially at this price. Better combat, deeper diplomacy with settlement choices that carry real consequences, and maybe even more camp building (which is already really fun) would easily change that.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I kept playing hoping new regions would somehow change things but there's nothing substantial, you've seen everything after fighting a few battles.

When the AI from what I seen, will send raids after you or your camp after you upset them enough. I never seen AI take back lane so far. Also due to how camps work, you can skip a lot of the content and rush to the end game area but you will lose out on upgraded dudes and gear but after 7 hours I feel like I'm near capping out my dudes, I just need more end game weapons and armor and it's basically maxed out\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I was really excited for this game but it feels like nothing more than improve graphics with a setting reskin to japan. The gameplay seems the exact same and there feels like there is no point in building things except for what your army needs. The only gameplay loop is going from town to town, pressing charge, and then sparing everyone and everything so you can get more land to get a higher tier troop. The progression loop is non existent and I feel as though its actually worse than Brittannia. I feel as though I played the first 20 minutes of the game endlessly. After 20 minutes there was no new content. I kept playing in hopes that i might find something new or exciting but I haven't. I know there is guns and horses in the game which I have not gotten yet but it feels in its current state like a massive downgrade form Brittannia. Brittania had siege weapons, and in depth upgrade trees, and while it was still very repetative and boring after a couple hours it felt more in depth.
