He helped explain some of the nuances to the game and why my understanding of the game was wrong. After that everything clicked and I was able to really start to enjoy the game. I am really thankful for the experience I got to speak with him, and I genuinely believe this is a team of people who created something they loved and wanted to share. Keeping my original section of my review just for the lore, but this game rules.

Imagine the combo system from Forza Horizon, take that, add roguelike elements like Balatro with a great driving system controls and you have it. This is much more fun than I could ever imagine. The controls are challenging and satisfying to master, you'll enjoy breezing through traffic as you drift pass at high speed.
The gameplay is really creative as well, you need to balance between scoring points (your main goal), reaching the checkpoints in time and keeping the health of your car. Sometimes you have a perfect run, scoring SSS all the way, but you loose to a boss that is faster than you.
There's lots of visual customization on your cars as well, just like Need for Speed Underground. You can change all the parts of your car, the colours of each one and add vynils as well.
The cherry on top is the possibility of customize your track list. Use any song you like. This is a dream feature, I'm playing with my Forza Horizon + Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks, it's amazing! Those songs fit perfectly with the game.

Upgrades are pretty cool and you can actively feel their effects on the gameplay. Drifting is good and thankfully very arcadey but does not feel like you are completely out of control. Sometimes the turning or lane move indicators on the traffic lies but usually due to an object just appearing in from of them. Other times they move wildly over 3 lanes right in you way ( a bit of realism that I respect but hate). A lovely game for the price and very fun. ALSO ADDING YOUR OWN MUSIC IS DOPE. The base soundtrack is good, there's a stream in radio station but you also get to put in your own tracks and make the game a little bit more of your own. The car customization isn't going to change the world but it's nice to have in a project like this and you can recognize the inspirations pretty easily if you played driving games from the early 00s. Aesthetic is pretty great with a mix of different influences and the manga panel transition when you pass a section is a great touch.

I’ve been playing Driving Rogue since the early demo, so I’ve actually watched this game grow into what it is now.
The first thing that attracted me was the design style. It has its own identity. Stylish, clean, slightly retro, but not trying too hard to look 'cool'.
But the biggest difference between the early demo and the release version for me is the driving itself.
I’m 100% a keyboard player. I’ve basically never been a controller person, which is one reason I usually don’t get deeply into racing games.
In the early demo, I spent half my time absolutely murdering the car against walls. 😂 Sometimes I felt like I was fighting the car more than driving it.
Now? Completely different.
The steering feels responsive, the speed feels good, and especially the drifting finally gives me that feeling of:
I’m controlling this car. I’ve got this thing under control.
And that feeling is ridiculously satisfying.
One thing I didn’t expect was how much this game would wake up old childhood memories of playing games in arcades.
Back then, a game was just a game. You stood in front of a machine, put your hands on the controls, and the whole point was to actually learn how to control what was happening on the screen.
That’s what Driving Rogue gives me.
You have to get the car under control. You have to feel the timing. You have to learn the drifting, the speed, the corners. And once you start getting it right, that feeling is incredibly satisfying.
It reminds me why I liked games in the first place.
The game itself is the fun.
What I also love is that Driving Rogue doesn’t ask me to reorganise my life around playing a game.
I keep it on my laptop or desktop, I’m working, I need a break, I open it and drive for 15 or 20 minutes. Sometimes that turns into a lot longer because 'one more run' becomes another one.
It’s easy to pick up, it doesn’t demand some ridiculous PC setup, and you can play it at whatever level you feel like playing that day.
Want to just drive and enjoy the speed? You can.
Want to drift, chase scores and get competitive? You can.
Want to experiment with cards, builds and upgrades and start thinking about how to squeeze more out of every run? You can do that too.
That flexibility is probably one of its biggest strengths.
The soundtrack is genuinely good as well. It fits the driving really nicely and helps keep that sense of speed and flow without getting in the way.
And then there is one very specific thing this game triggers in me:
Initial D.
Maybe this is an age thing, but somewhere in my brain there is apparently still a tiny Akina downhill racer waiting to wake up.
Driving Rogue does that.
It doesn’t make me think, 'Right, now I’m sitting down to play a big racing game.'
It makes me think:
I want to drive.
I can take that corner better.
I can drift that properly.
I can beat that score.
One more run.
For me that distinction matters.
A lot of racing games have always felt like too much game for the amount of driving I actually want. Driving Rogue feels compact and focused. It gives me the fun part without making the whole experience feel like homework.
It’s engaging and relaxing at the same time, which is surprisingly difficult to get right.
And as someone who is both a female player and a keyboard-only player, I think this deserves attention from people who normally assume a racing game probably isn’t for them.
You don’t need to be a hardcore racing-game person. You just need to enjoy the feeling of getting a car under control and wanting to do one more run.

Driving Rogue is a fine-tuned machine of reactions, precision, and decision-making that comes together so shockingly well I'm left wondering why I'd never gone looking for a driving roguelike before.
The goal of the game is to drive as cleanly and stylishly as possible through procedurally-generated levels peppered with blissfully ignorant commuters. And that sounds simple, until you're going 120 mph into a hard right turn with three vehicles blocking up various lanes at once.
The game is not complicated, but it is challenging and incredibly well-designed. When I first started playing I thought the roads were too small and the drifting made my vehicle too big. Then I realized the car only kicks out its rear end dramatically while I'm holding the throttle through a drift; this knowledge unlocked a surprisingly robust system for sneaking as close to walls and traffic as possible without making contact. Add strategic braking to this formula, and you will begin to realize that yes, while RNG can screw you, almost any situation can be neatly dealt with if you get the execution right.
Between levels you get a breather and a chance to purchase upgrades which enable some neat builds. There's about as much variety as you can squeeze out of a score-based driving game, with the ability to emphasize different scoring actions and tune your vehicle to handle the challenges ahead. It's not rocket science, but it's fun to gamble for good mods and put together a powerful racing machine by the end of the run.
A single run seldom lasts longer than half an hour, making this a decidedly bite-sized game, but I found myself coming back for several more rounds each time. Dancing through traffic is way more fun than I ever expected, and generates the kind of raw skill-based satisfaction a lot of modern games sorely lack.

Driving Rogue is a fine-tuned machine of reactions, precision, and decision-making that comes together so shockingly well I'm left wondering why I'd never gone looking for a driving roguelike before.
The goal of the game is to drive as cleanly and stylishly as possible through procedurally-generated levels peppered with blissfully ignorant commuters. And that sounds simple, until you're going 120 mph into a hard right turn with three vehicles blocking up various lanes at once.
The game is not complicated, but it is challenging and incredibly well-designed. When I first started playing I thought the roads were too small and the drifting made my vehicle too big. Then I realized the car only kicks out its rear end dramatically while I'm holding the throttle through a drift; this knowledge unlocked a surprisingly robust system for sneaking as close to walls and traffic as possible without making contact. Add strategic braking to this formula, and you will begin to realize that yes, while RNG can screw you, almost any situation can be neatly dealt with if you get the execution right.
Between levels you get a breather and a chance to purchase upgrades which enable some neat builds. There's about as much variety as you can squeeze out of a score-based driving game, with the ability to emphasize different scoring actions and tune your vehicle to handle the challenges ahead. It's not rocket science, but it's fun to gamble for good mods and put together a powerful racing machine by the end of the run.
A single run seldom lasts longer than half an hour, making this a decidedly bite-sized game, but I found myself coming back for several more rounds each time. Dancing through traffic is way more fun than I ever expected, and generates the kind of raw skill-based satisfaction a lot of modern games sorely lack.

It seems like it's too easy to get SSS score and make a ton of cash in between rounds. It's rare that I go a stage without getting an upgrade, so they feel less meaningful/impactful when you get them. I flew through the first few bosses, but the fourth boss Nova has a ton of rubber banding to keep them ahead of you, even when building for speed/handling. The bosses can also be annoying because the traffic AI seems to break whenever the bosses get close, the cars stop moving or move unpredictably into your path. I was having fun until I hit this wall, losing to the same boss over and over and making no progression makes the game not fun. The customizations seem out of place as well. I have more money than I can spend on customizations and unlocking them takes a very long time. I'm a big house/jungle/Eurobeat fan, and its pretty clear to me and several other people in these reviews that a large portion of the music in this game, especially from the 'artist' Filipe AGB, is either completely AI generated or massively assisted using AI. The developers already admitted to using AI music in the demo, claiming to have removed it, and they deny that music currently in game uses AI- however, looking into any of Filipes accounts, they are flooded with AI thumbnails and terrible AI vocals. If the devs were mislead by the artists then i understand, but denying any AI use and failing to double check their artists isn't an excuse.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

It has a great premise, it uses roguelite mechanics well, it applies them in a new and different way, there's a ton of polish put into the way the game feels in the hands, it's visually engaging, there's a lot of customization options, it's taken the best parts of other games and put them into a blender to get something really tasty as a result.
On the other hand, that blender wasn't cleaned very well beforehand. There's bits in this end product that are only showing up because someone in the development side of this project is absolutely laser-focused on making the game they think is cool without considering what a game like this requires in order to not be a frustrating mess that cheapens its own impact.
Enemies don't telegraph changes in behavior, they just telegraph what they're already doing in the moment. The "reckless drivers" that run up behind you aren't an actual threat you can mitigate, it's a thing that hits you whenever it feels like it, and it feels like it whenever you start earning points by doing well. The vans that throw objects at you do so immediately with next to zero windup, so your ability to react mid-drift is nearly nonexistent. The bosses get to hit walls, hit cars, hit you, make mistakes that would kill you within seconds, with absolute impunity. You just get to get slapped around, and if you drive like they do, then you're going to lose. You get strapped to point quotas to clear, but you never get to complete combos because of everything listed above, and then some.
Don't even get me started on unlocking cosmetics. You unlock something, then get the ability to unlock something else? You'll have to re-buy the things you originally unlocked once you pay to equip the new things you just unlocked. Which is *insane.* Nothing works like this.
There's also no way to save mid-run. You start playing, you're committed to the whole run. No saving between stages. No ability to resume from where you left off. You'd better have nothing going on in your real life for a while, or you're playing on a Steam Deck et al and can put it in sleep mode. Otherwise, you're gonna lose everything you worked for in a run.
It's a great game, even with all that said. It's got the bones of something truly special, and I hope it succeeds. But I can't recommend it to other people the same way it was recommended to me. There's too many glaring flaws to ignore.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Driving Rogue provides a fun arcadey racing game that is enhanced by roguelite elements, but not carried. The driving itself is fun enough that I would play a game that used it with a more traditional structure.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game is crack for those who love arcade drift racing games. there is no other game that makes you truly FEEL like a badass while taking tight corners around oblivious npcs. I could talk and talk about the gameplay mechanics but truly I think the short tutorial is all you need, the tutorial lays down all the mechanics and at the end it pretty much says good luck it only gets harder from here.
It's hard to put exactly what I think about this game into words but I am actually addicted and you can take that at face value as I have had REAL addictions in the past, so I know what im talking about in that regard.
