\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI have a ton of fun playing this game, and I probably will well into the foreseeable future. But T17 should suffer some kind of consequences for release a game in this state. Just read their community updates. It's basic ♥♥♥♥ that's broken.
As someone else also noted: the player base is down from 30k to 8k in 2 weeks.
Cons:
- Do you want to be part of an Early Access game, or game that is still in Beta state that is lying about being a completed game.
I really enjoy playing this game, it's a lot of fun, but I can't say that it was ready at launch.
- Do you like Hell Let Loose (original) and Arma? Then boy do I have some snake oil to sell you!
- Bullets can't go through chain link fences.
- Mounting an MG is janky as all heck.
- This game comes complete with: unbalanced weapons systems, ever wish you gun took 6 shots to kill someone but the enemy gun takes 2; just pickup an M16 and your wish is my command.
- Have you ever wanted to be running though jungle cover that is completely neutralized by controller players having aim assist.
- - If you are using a controller all you have to do is drag you aim through the bushes. If someone is hiding and completely obscured your aim-assist will slow down near them. Allowing you to narrow down where enemies are.
- First think you have to do is set you draw detail to 0, and your draw distance to max. I seriously don't know why this is even an option. We learned this in the first game.
- This game is a Grade A example of what happens when you rush a game to launch instead of taking 2 more months to finish it.
- Do you enjoy being forced to play in cross-platform lobbies because the company that released it didn't create "default - non-cross-platform lobbies" this is the game for you.
- - No shade on console players, but most of them don't have mics, don't have time and are looking for a more relaxed experience, I'm glad that they can enjoy this game. But there should be dedicated console and PC lobbies.
- Do you want to fly helicopters in 'Nam but have limited to no ability to change their controls.
- - Did we learn nothing from any other game that has helicopters in it?
- How do you feel about spending 5 hours in game, to level up a role so that you can actually take out a tank, only to be face with the fact that no one else has spent 5 hours leveling up that same role, and you don't have enough rounds to destroy the tank yourself?
- I don't think Easy Anti-Cheat has ever worked.
- What is that hit detection on the flamethrower, Jesus.
- No traps, what kind of decision is that... it's like "Ready or Not" removing all the gore because of Consoles, boohoo. Looking at you Australia.
Pros:
- No DLC that gives an unfair advantage: looking at you EA/CoD.
- It's a great concept for a game
- I might have PTSD from this
- My K/D is through the roof, and I love the MG's
- There are helicopters
- The asymmetry is a fun element
- They finally fixed flares not permanently being bugged on the map.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI am a big fan of the original Hell Let Loose so i was excited for this game to come out. Sadly its so buggy and that i cannot recommend it in its current state. The game feels unfinished and untested.
Bugs i have frequently experienced.
-NVA not being able to build tunnels which essential hamstrings them. This seems to occur on some matches then in the next match is resolved.
-Squad leaders being unable to deploy posts without them instantly disappearing.
-Falling through or walking through walls and sand dunes.
-Bamboo fences and other objects that are see through are totally bullet proof.
-When exiting helicopters you are often thrown into the air and instantly killed by the rotor blades.
-Game often crashes on start up.
-EVERYTIME i close the game it doesnt fully shut down and the lobby sound effects continue to play until you force the game to stop. This invariably leads to a crash on the next start up of the game.
Pros
- I really like the maps and the way the game looks. Graphics are excellent and its very immersive and firefights are extremely intense.
- The new loadout system gives you way more customisation and choice in terms of weapons and equipment once you have leveled the classes up enough.
- Ability to drag downed teammates to cover is nice, makes medic role more viable.
- Boat spawns are a fun new feature that can work well when deployed properly.
Cons
-Not enough populated servers and terrible voice comms especially on cross play servers. Most console players dont seem to be able to or dont want to use push to talk so a lot of the time you join a squad and its either silent with no communication or you can constantly hear someones TV in the background.
- I hate the M16s gunhandling. The NVAs AK varient is far superior at medium range.
- Lack of weapon variety for USA. Would be nice to see some M14s introduced.
- Offensive mode feels rather unbalanced. Its often a complete walkover for the attackers unless the defending team are very good at organising their garrisons/tunnels.
- NVA Anti Aircraft 14.7mm Diskhas do way too little damage to helicopters. Its a very heavy machine gun it should shred a helicopter at close range. Instead it tickles them.

I can't stress enough how incompetent these devs are. Not only is the game pretty barebones and feels more like an early access game than a fully developed one, it's been plagued by various audio bugs since the beta. People have been unable to talk in-game because the VOIP is completely broken for some players, which has resulted in games where there's basically no verbal communication at all. That's a pretty big problem when communication is such a core part of the gameplay.
If the audio was the only technical issue, you might think I'm just a grumpy little ♥♥♥♥, but oh boy, it doesn't end there. Performance is also pretty bad. I kid you not when I say I'm unable to play this game at 90 FPS without DLSS upscaling and 2x frame generation on high settings at 1440p. If I turn frame generation off, I'm getting around 60 FPS. So in other words, the recommended specs are pretty misleading.
But the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ doesn't end there, because on August 28th the devs pushed out an update that completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the gun sounds. They now sound like they're being fired inside a concrete box, and somehow my performance got even worse. I'm now down to around 50 FPS with 2x frame generation and about 35 FPS without it. At this point the game is basically unplayable.
With that out of my system, I can now comment on the gameplay and the rest of the game. Gameplay wise, it's fun and feels a lot like the previous title, as you'd expect. But honestly, I expected more. This game could have been so much more than just a reskin.
And before you comment "it's not a reskin, there are new mechanics, jungles, rivers etc." just ask yourself, if you didn't know any historical context, would you actually be able to tell the games apart?
Nothing about HLL: Vietnam really makes you realise that it's set during the Vietnam War besides the visuals and the title. The game modes are basically copy-pasted from the previous game, with no Seek and Destroy or anything else that really reflects the Vietnam War in a different way. You don't feel the power and equipment imbalance between the different sides. There are no traps for the North Vietnamese or any other interesting improvised weaponry. If the South gets a tank, so does the North. Whatever one side gets, the other side gets an near exact counterpart to.
I understand that completely unbalanced factions is not fun, but in this case it just makes the game feel more boring and bland. It also ties into what I think is one of the biggest problems with the game:
it lacks a strong identity.
The tunnels are probably the only feature that genuinely impressed me, and it might very well be the only mechanic in the game that actually made me think "yeah, this is Vietnam."
I could keep going, but this review is getting long enough so I will just wrap it up with this:

Community servers that supposedly have mandatory comms don't and expect you to sign up to their discord channels to play.

Every gun is viable. There is very little difference in TTK across weapons. Even the pistol can one shot in the head or two shot the body. Anyone complaining about that in these reviews - what game are they even playing? I don't get it. I do like the NVA assault rifle iron sights more, but I am now used to the M16, so it doesn't bother me.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI was lukewarm on this when it first came out but I've actually really grown to like it and very rarely go back to original HLL which I have a good amount of time in. Yeah, people will complain about getting shot by people laying down in bushes constantly but that's literally part of the Vietnam experience....if you don't like getting picked off by people you probably won't see, you're playing the wrong game. This really isn't much different than original HLL, the only difference is now it is some dude laying prone in a bush 10m away you never see instead of some dude laying prone in a tree line 250m away you never see.
Comms are hit or miss, I generally avoid the official servers as there seems to be more comms on private/clan servers in my experience. Original HLL really isn't that different in that regard, this will most likely improve over time as players only casually interested in the game fall off and you're left with people who are regulars. My biggest complaint in regards to comms are the sheer number of players with hot mics. This isn't really a fault of the game itself but just idiots being idiots, I wouldn't be said if the developers removed open mics as an option or introduced some sort of functionality to auto disable open mic if a player was repeatedly reported for it.
Technically, I haven't had any major issues. The game runs perfectly fine for me, I think I've had 1 crash in my 33 hours or so of gameplay. It certainly runs smoother than original HLL did which still, to this day, stutters like crazy on some of the large, open maps. You still tend to get stuck on random ♥♥♥♥ moving around the map but overall, gunplay and general movement feels smoother than the original did.
Overall, I really enjoy the game and would recommend it to anyone who is tired of the bullet sponginess of Battefield but isn't quite interested in more milsimmy style stuff like Squad.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tHalf baked game. You are paying to be a beta tester. Console peasants have broken aim assist and will lock onto you through bushes and trees. You can't close the game without going into task manager and killing the process manually. You have to go into settings to toggle on the option to see the votekicking system and even then it only lasts for 10 seconds meaning nobody will ever get kicked if they are teamkilling, trolling, or griefing. You also have to go into settings to enable the option that will show who killed you and what type of weapon they were using. There is no ballistics system meaning a small piece of wooden or wire fence can absorb bullets. Conquest and domination in this game are the most boring game modes, it's literally a running simulator that is actively avoided by a large percentage of the playerbase.
