Gallipoli has a solid foundation with much promise. However, as much as I want to see it succeed, I cannot recommend it in its current state. Even after the latest content patch, the game is plagued by imbalance and several critical bugs. There are also dubious design choices in the core gameplay loop that need substantial work. All this, coupled with the limited content, is quickly degrading the concurrent player count. My honest opinion is to wait for fixes and additional content before committing.
I gave the game until after the first major content patch to see whether launch issues would be addressed (most of them weren’t) and to give the game a fair chance. After 200 hours and hundreds of matches, these are the prevailing issues I still find:
Critical game bugs are difficult to overlook
The most egregious bugs are hit registration and desync. Enemies can survive multiple center-mass shots, even when stationary. You can be killed after you've turned corners or reached solid cover despite having low latency and good hardware. Or an enemy can be facing a different direction yet kill you.

Some include: weapon optics blacking out at random, players flickering while prone or on mortars, HMGs and their operators disappearing once occupied, objectives or spawns being constructed and deconstructed through walls, server crashes, bots walking through barricades and building beacons within an active objective, and the sentry beacon displaying without its diamond box on the map.
The game’s imbalance works against the experience
The defensive mechanics are one of the biggest problems with Gallipoli. The base game mode, Expedition, is largely attacker-favored, and this is caused by several compounding factors.
The concept of foothold, while interesting, lasts for far too long and requires only one attacker in the objective to trigger it. I also believe the designers intentionally tried to make the final objectives of maps turn into a circus by being more susceptible to prolonged footholds, which is good in theory but plays out poorly in practice. In contrast, earlier objectives, once infiltrated by attackers, more often than not collapse extremely quickly. Once an objective is lost, retaking it often feels nearly impossible. The lack of meaningful contesting over these objectives makes them feel like a point of no return rather than something even worth fighting over.
Add to this the distant spawns for defenders while attackers can build spawn points directly next to objectives. There is also no minimum distance between attacker beacons, allowing them to stack spawns around objectives and ensure that there is almost always someone spawning in the area, making those spawns extremely difficult to remove.
The objectives themselves also contribute to this imbalance. Building and TNT objectives can be completed far too quickly. Instead of creating prolonged fights over an objective, they often result in short-lived engagements.
The ticket system further compounds the problem. Defenders can completely dominate an earlier sector and inflict heavy casualties, only for attackers to recover enough tickets after capturing it to negate much of the advantage of an attritional strategy. The game doesn't adequately reward defenders for successfully trading territory for enemy casualties. This makes it especially frustrating when attackers perform poorly, suffer heavy losses, and still manage to take sectors or even win the entire match.
Defender beacon placement also feels overly predictable. Defenders can’t place beacons of their own to allow for dynamic battles; instead, they are static and always placed in an arbitrary line, making it possible to memorize or even anticipate where the next one will be regardless of whether you have played the map before.
Matches often feel formulaic rather than dynamic
While the aesthetics of some of these maps are intriguing, map design must be paramount. Players naturally gravitate towards the path of least resistance, and because there aren't enough alternative routes with adequate cover or strategic tradeoffs in most of these maps, matches frequently play out in the exact same way. If the game imbalance doesn’t bore you, the meta for each map eventually will.
The maps themselves need more variety. Too many are narrow, linear corridors without enough creative routes, interesting bends, or strategic choices for attackers. They offer limited opportunities for meaningful flanking. Some are visually flat, dull, or monotonous. Their latest map is a large improvement. However, with only 50 players on such a large map, it can make the front line feel stretched and empty. Some maps even have issues where you can shoot defenders directly as they spawn by the last objectives.
Classes are scatterbrained and amorphous
The class system has expanded from 6 to 10 without making them feel meaningfully distinct. This is particularly apparent in the redundant abilities shared across classes, as if players cannot be relied upon to perform their assigned role. Classes would be better served by merging some or turning them into sub-kits. The result is a game that feels far too casual, with players able to operate independently rather than relying on one another and working cohesively as a team.
Classes are also difficult to distinguish from one another at a glance. They need stronger visual identities so players can quickly understand what they are facing and adjust accordingly.
The progression system, while streamlined from Isonzo, is significantly more grindy. With no bot farming, it took me 200 hours to max all 10 classes in Gallipoli versus 60 hours to max 6 in Isonzo. Weapon levels are also unnecessary and create an additional balance concern when new factions and their unleveled weapons are introduced.
Things I’d nitpick on
• The HUD has too many large, intrusive elements that aren't sufficiently opaque and frequently obscure targets and your FOV.
• There aren't enough ways to capture objectives beyond planting TNT and building.
• The music is intense and unique, but lacks Isonzo's grandeur.
• You move like molasses after nicking but a toe on barbed wire.
• Suppression is well represented, but its penalties should be toned down.
• There is too much artillery and too many pistols.
• The Lewis hipfire is ridiculously powerful.
• Players can steal the HMG you built, even if it’s your class specialty.
• Build placement is limited and finicky, causing you to waste absurd amounts of time trying to find a valid location while under fire.
• LMG bipods are automatically undone when you move, making redeployment unnecessarily tedious.
• 25v25 feels small, and player departures are especially damaging without server mergers.
Conclusion
There is a good game underneath all of this, and Gallipoli has improved the franchise in many ways. The tactical-realism niche is appealing, the setting is interesting, and the underlying gunplay is satisfying when everything works. But right now, its systems repeatedly undermine the experience, and the combination of attacker-favored gameplay, formulaic map flow, confused class system, and game-breaking bugs makes Gallipoli feel more frustrating than fun once you’ve become accustomed to its patterns.
However, if you are patient and feel $30 is worth 20 hours of gameplay before it becomes repetitive, then go for it. It occupies a niche middle ground among team-based realism FPS games; it’s not as arcade-like as BF/CoD, yet it’s not as hardcore or milsim-oriented as Squad/ARMA. If you’re a fan of the RO/RS franchise, you will find yourself at home here, but it won’t fully scratch the itch left behind by the absence of a true successor.

When it works, which is rare, It's great, but most matches are riddled with the aformentioned issues. I'm hoping that the devs pull a miracle out of their asses and fix the bugs, but until that happens, I'd suggest staying with isonzo\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

- you will never win if you defend
- when defending, attacking team has "overtime" even though they run out of people, so you have to defend against an infinite number of enemies as long as they are at the objective, and even more. time is stupidly high
- you will respawn at the furthest place possible from the objective when defending
- you will be constantly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by airstrikes when defending
so basically it is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ miserable game if you defend. attacking is okay

PROS
-So far my pros are that the movements and un handling feel weighty and clunky. I feel like a soldier which is what I'd expect from a realistic WWI shooter. People are too cozy with their fluid movements, but in reality, you are not as fluid under 10-50 pounds of gear and equipment.
-The suppression system has a purpose and some may complain about it, but I like it. You try not panicking while you are actively being shot at. I doubt many can, especially as a Ottoman or British conscript. Which leads into your reactions, the fumbled reloads and shaking. It forces you to either move or hide. I wish more games had a suppression system like this.
-HMGs actually have more utility which I love because in Isonzo they are death traps.
-Barbed wire stops you in your tracks instead of allowing you to jump through it.
CONS
-My biggest complaint is the hit reg. It is frustrating to have a guy in your sights at basically 15 feet in front of you. Only...you miss all your shots, dude notices you and you get domed while reloading.
-I could complain about the classes, but I think they are okay. Though some are more useful than others.
-Melee is extremely inconsistent. Image yourself and the enemy is out of ammo or just you. You run in and start bashing away while your enemy is likely panicking, only you get one hit, miss five times because buggy hitreg, and get stabbed or shot. Shovels or tools also do not one hit, which I sorely miss from Isonzo.
-Characters both friend and foe are also super inconsistent on location. I had two guys dead to rights, missed them both, they suddenly teleported to where they actually were, I panicked, hipfired at close range and died. Why? Extreme desync despite decent ping. And quite frequently I will have a guy pinned and get domed by them, even though I cant see them. Isonzo, Tannenburg, and Verdun were better about this. If they see me, I should be able to see them, no matter what.
-Trade kills are aggressively excessive. Like in Isonzo it's a haha funny moment. In this game it is OBNOXIOUS. Like I shoot a guy, kill them, only for me to die a second after because they killed me. Trades just happen more frequently which I assume is also tied to the extremely aggressive desync issue this game has.
-Maps feel rigged if not unfair. Kut and Suez feel the most balanced of the five, though Suez is very open and very treacherous in some spots. ANZAC Cove is basically prototype D-Day which can get very rough, though after the first area, I noticed that it can swap over to favoring the attackers. V-Beach is in a similar vain to ANZAC Cove, but favors the attackers more once they hit the beach. Ctesiphon )or however you spell it) is by far the worst map for attackers. VERY open. craters too far apart, and easy to lock down. It is a MG team's wet dream and very consistently you will not win on this map as attackers.
-Excessive amounts of LMGs.
-No Ottoman LMG like a Hotchkiss, Madsen, or 08/15.
-Pistols. Pistols everywhere.
-No incentive or a way to force people to use revolvers. I personally don't mind the use of pistol weapons, but Isonzo had a better trade off between pistols and revolvers.
-Ottomans have less ammo than the British.
-Overtime music doesn't hit as hard as Pushing Forward.
-Overall a sense that there is a extreme lack of polish.

Aiming: The front blade of the sight is consistently not aligned with the back V sight.
Movement: It's like running through molasses.
Suppression: This mechanic is immensely overpowered.
Hit registers: Just really bad.
Beacons: The players don't understand these, and the forward spawn mechanic of Isonzo was better. There's no quality control from stopping a dumb player from building a beacon 50 m behind the existing one.
Spotting: Binoculars and spotting scopes are not nearly this difficult to focus in real life, nor do they have such a narrow range of focus. It's a blurry mess.

I especially love the suppression mechanics that machine guns create. When you're pinned down under sustained fire, it really gives you a sense of the tension and terror you would imagine in a scenario like Gallipoli.
You can clearly tell the developers put a lot of time into the map design. The maps are well thought out and are honestly some of the best I've seen in an FPS. They do a great job of creating intense fights around objectives without making the battles feel repetitive.
I've also been pleasantly surprised by the amount of teamwork in most matches. Most players seem to be using their respective roles properly, which leads to a lot of back-and-forth fighting over objectives. It gives the battles that push-and-pull feeling that I think fits WWI combat extremely well.
Performance has been great on my end, although I do have a pretty high-end system, so your experience may vary depending on your hardware.
My only complaints right now are the occasional hit-registration issues, scoped weapons sometimes glitching and causing the scope not to function properly, and the need for more content. I haven't gotten bored with the current content, but a few more maps and perhaps another game mode would be great additions.

I wear glasses and having about 100-120 FOV is how I see the world. I own and have used many of the weapons in game and they don't look like that at all. It's nauseating and I don't know how this wasn't an issue in a game like Isonzo but its an issue for this game. I wanted to like and enjoy this game like I have all of the previous games but it's not worth making me sick. I am regretfully asking to return this game.
