I will not be spending my money with Level 5 on further games or DLC as they are fully committed to using Generative AI now, despite claiming to have originally developed the game without it.

BUT if you're someone who cares about generative Ai being anywhere near your games I cannot recommend this game or any other current and future level-5 games. (and if you dont care? cool i'm not here to fight anyone on this you make your own choices and i make mine)
This isn't anything new, even back when this game was yet to be out, they had trailers for their other games full of ai or ai generated concept art (yokai watch and holy horror mansion as examples) but it was unknown if AI was ever involved with the creation of Fantasy Life i (specially considering the amount of years it took to even come out and it's many issues along the way)
But their new presentation was full of generative ai, things they claim were for the "spectacle" and said spectacle included a dragon slowly turning and losing one of its wings in the next frame. While this STILL doesn't confirm that AI will be in their PAID DLC it doesn't give me hope.
Their other games such as both the new layton and the series new remake have also been shown off with AI.
And their president has double downed on their usage, saying that "no simplistic generated content" will be in their final products and the ai will be used to speed up production from 5 years to 2!

This is one of the games that could greatly benefit from more story DLC and content however all we got so far is the base game and a mediocre end game DLC (It was free so I am a lot more lenient on it). We need something like Origin island in the original to expand more on the game. If you are thinking of buying it then just know that it is a good game but it will get a bit repetitive and you will be wanting more.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I can't recommend this game, not really. I really want to love it. I do.
Fantasy Life is everything to me, despite the relative simplicity there's something about it that kept, keeps me hooked.
...and this frankly falls flat on its face in comparison.
I could ignore the fact its vibes have changed; after all it's been over a decade since Fantasy Life released. I wouldn't expect it to be exactly the same.
At the same time, it just feels... hollow, I guess, in comparison.
The character models and customisation are lovely, and the rest of the game... eh, shrug. Look at other reviews; if you want to let pure RNG decide your endgame grind fate, feel free.
I'm not complaining about the grind itself, just the RNG nature of it.
But truthfully despite the fact L5 have not stated genAI was used in any part of development so far, I still can't trust a word they say (absolutely no trust for the upcoming DLC) and truthfully, that sours the entire game for me.

Fantasy Life i is a wonderful game with a lot of charm. The gameplay can be repetitive, but the variety keeps it fun. Just like in the original, you can be a knight one minute and a cook the next. There is a ton of fun to be had here. This entry in the fantasy Life serie also features a better story, and the "Legend" bosses can be genuinely challenging. I clocked 200 hours in the original and already have 113 hours in this one.
Regarding the AI slop issue:
I will be the first to denounce AI slop, and IF any future DLC turns into AI slop, I will 100% change my review. However, there is a responsible way to use AI. If it's used strictly for polish, it should be fine. In a 3D game, even individual blades of grass (and trees too) have to be modeled. If AI is used as a productivity tool to free up time for artists to focus on more exciting assets—without replacing the artists themselves—that shouldn't be a problem. The same logic applies to programmers and animators.
Something people keep forgetting is that the gaming industry is plagued by severe crunch and impossible deadlines. If LEVEL-5 maintains business as usual (no layoffs and keep hiring at a simulaire rate) and we start seeing reports of a healthier workplace environment, is AI assistance really such a bad thing?
Responsible AI usage is possible, but LEVEL-5 still has to prove they can handle it responsibly. (The livestream was a horrible example, and they are starting with a negative score in my book.) For me, it's going to be a "wait-and-see" situation with Professor Layton and the New World of Steam before I cast final judgment.
There's a big difference between using AI for a quick payout (Like the dumb AI slop on youtube) and using it to improve quality of life for your employees. I hope LEVEL-5 ends up in the second camp.
