\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tTLDR: The story and character writing are meh. The actual gameplay, however, is very fun and there’s a ton of different things to do. If you don't mind a lighthearted (forgettable) story but prioritize fun gameplay + variety, FLi is a good choice.
- Good character designs. The characters they introduced in this game have good designs, ranging from cute to cool to edgy. There's some decent variety of character designs in your teammates as well; not everyone is a generic cute anime girl/boy, which I liked to see.
- Good postgame content. People will disagree with me on this point, but I find the postgame content (after you defeat the final boss) very time-consuming in a good way. There’s numerous different things you can focus on: Treasure Groves (which give you goddess fruits, which you can use to unlock a variety of customization, recipes, and items), Ginormosia (where you can explore, fight and grind to your heart’s content, and unlock around 30 new characters to join your party), Snoozaland (which unlocks a large amount of cool new outfits, armor sets, weapon sets, furniture, and emotes), and more. Just maxxing out all of my Lives to lvl 100 took a large amount of time, but I found the grind enjoyable.
- Multiplayer. The Multiplayer in this game is very fun and easy to get into. You have a variety of different game modes to choose from, and you are actually REWARDED for completing games in multiplayer. The more people play together in Treasure Grove, the more goddess fruits your entire team will receive. The more people play together in Snoozaland, the more items you'll receive via the alchemy bots. (More items = More dream points)
- Island building. Speaking as an Animal Crossing fan...I LOVE that we get an entire island to build. You can terraform it to your hearts content, and terraforming in this game is insanely convenient thanks to your robot helper. There’s a good variety of items and furniture that you can decorate with, and your teammates can live on the island with you. If you’re an Animal Crossing fan (or any ‘cozy game’ that allows you to build a town and decorate), you will love this feature.
- Lackluster and boring characters. Don’t get me wrong, I think the new characters they introduced are very cute and cool design-wise. The issue is that everyone is so one-dimensional that there’s literally nothing to their characters aside from their painfully basic backstories. They have no additional dialogue upon going out of your way to speak with them; they’ll just keep repeating the same lines over and over until they happen to be relevant to the plot and show up in a cutscene.
- Barebones character dialogue. This is specifically regarding the characters that can live on your island and join your team. The issue is these characters barely have ANY dialogue. At most, they have maybe 10-15 dialogue lines total (1-2 greetings, 1-2 help requests, 1 when its raining, 1 for nighttime, 1-2 when they’re in their house). The ‘conversations’ they can rarely have with other characters are painfully bland.
The conversations are always a variety of A: “I like this thing!” B: “I don't care” A: “Oh okay!”
A final Fun Fact: Apparently this game was originally intended to be a MOBILE GACHA GAME until the ex-director stepped down, and the dev team scrambled last second to try and turn it into an actual decent game despite their time constraints. Bosses tend to be reskins with the same 3 abilities. I should not be able to defeat a level 50 boss at level 15. I remember getting my ass kicked on 3ds for not being geared up enough or being roughly the same level as a boss. Monsters to kill for each combat Life are also about 80% the same. What happened to variety?
After ~38 hours (and grinding every job to Expert, mind you, I'm probably halfway through), story is still bland and rather boring. And I love dragons, I'm all here for dragons. The dragon is the most interesting part of the game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The game scratches the itch its predecessor left behind and the multiplayer is very fun (the dream thing is the best thing in there for sure) BUT. The beginning and early middle of the game are incredibly boring. The story is consistently bad and they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the entire point of ranking up fighting Lives + the quests you need to get done to get there. A few ways they did that :
- quests aren’t contained to a zone or a theme anymore (ie. in the 3ds game, expert quests happen in Al Maajik and paladins deal with dragons while mages deal with spirits etc - in FLi, expert quests happen all over the place and different Lives deal with the same bosses and monsters, so there’s no cohesion)
- no ranking up dialogue from Life NPCs (those basically don’t even exist anyway) so you don’t feel like you’ve really progressed or accomplished anything and the NPCs are completely flat with basically no discernible personality
- no special king dialogue and gifts when you reach Master :( I loved going to get Erik’s congrats in the 3ds game

The visuals and crafting stuff sort of reminded me of a more fantasy-flavored version of games like Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar, but the RPG stuff was more on the vein of Zelda or some action RPG of that style. I'm roughly 10 hours into the game and I realize that not much has actually happened from a story perspective and despite the fact that I've so far been flung 1,000 years into the past, gained the ability to travel back and forth from the past to the present, and found another alternate world inhabited by a few huge eyes on top of towers that seem to be Sauron's much nicer relatives, and I can also travel there freely. But since I've been busy learning the different jobs and stuff like that, I don't feel I haven't done much in those 10 hours. It's an interesting game for sure.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I played Fantasy Life on the Nintendo 3DS and even that game is still fun to play. This game is like a big upgrade to the 3DS version. It's a different story than the 3DS version, so don't think it's a remake. It is still in the same universe and the gameplay is very similar. Because it's on PC, there are better camera control, more content, and better graphics. This game is definitely great for those that like open world adventure and is a fan of Fantasy Life.

I know I played like 120 hours but I had to finally realize that the pay off would never come and I was wasting my time.
