But in my opinion, this game is also not as good as people hype it up to be. After reaching the endgame, and (painfully) getting to the highest treasure grove difficulty available (900 years) I'm not having a fun time and I can't be bothered to grind the top tier endgame stuff. I feel like I'm missing something that might have clicked for others - let me explain.
The game markets itself as having 14 lives. I would argue there are only 8 lives, because for most of the crafting skills, you do the exact same minigame. There is practically no functional or gameplay difference between them. To break it down:
Unique lives which have actual gameplay differences:
Paladin - Unique ✓
Mercenary - Unique ✓
Hunter - Unique ✓
Magician - Unique ✓
Angler - Unique ✓
Farmer - Unique ✓
The two following classes are basically the same. Essentially instead of a rock, you hit a tree and vice versa:
Miner - not so unique
Woodcutter - not so unique
The rest of the lives are literally the same gameplay wise and even equipment wise (like a cooks armor set doesn't do anything mechanically different to a blacksmiths armor set). You get ingredients and do the same annoying button mashing minigame hundreds of times. If you hate the minigame for one of the classes, you will hate it for the rest of them. Even the quests to obtain the lives follow the exact same structure - there's like a class master and a irrelevant pupil and you have to help them do something. I would definitely recommend skipping the beginning quests for these classes after you do one of them, thankfully they give that as an option.
Cook - Not Unique X

This is definitely one of my main gripes with the game as I hate the damn minigame and you're basically forced to do it to progress. Otherwise, the issues I had continue:
The game doesn't FLOW smoothly. It's purposefully drawn out - As an example, to rank up your combat life, you get quests where you have to fight X amount of enemies. Some enemies only exist in a certain zone or dungeon, and there's always just a few enemies LESS than the amount you need to defeat, so you have to leave the dungeon, then go back in to defeat the rest of them. Sometimes it can take 2/3 trips. You have to do this again and again for each quest, and also for EACH combat life if you wanted to rank them all up. This feels artificial and a chore to get through as you have to go out of your way to do this rather than something that flows naturally as you play the game.
You can't ride mounts in towns for some reason which gets annoying - like why.
Actually terraforming and building bridges and such in your town is annoying - you have to have the bridge in your inventory as an item and then place it down in which it has to be constructed in like a minute or two. Like just let us use the robot to immediately place/remove buildings and such - again with the artificial slowness. I can imagine that if I had a huge town with tons of items placed everywhere and bridges/slopes, it would be a huge pain to remodel it if you felt like it.
To equip an item as a cosmetic (transmog), it has to be in your inventory. Items don't get added to a general transmog wardrobe, meaning you have to clutter your inventory with useless items you just use to transmog yourself. On top of this, there's a system in the game where you have to sell items to get points to reroll stats on gear, but there's not really a filter system, so you could just end up selling gear you wanted to keep for transmog purposes by accident (kinda hard to explain over a review but bottom line is this could have not been an issue if they just made all items you collect get added to a cosmetic wardrobe or something).
Ginomorsia feels out of place, like an excuse to copy breath of the wild for some reason. It even has the botw puzzle shrines. I didn't even interact with this place until the very end of the story where it forced me to so I could fight the final boss.
Finally, combat is too spammy. You just spam your charge move and then drink MP potions when out of MP and that's about it for the entirety of my playtime - I'm not kidding.
I could go on but that's my main points. Otherwise uh the story in the game did actually feel like it was written by AI lol, it sucked. All in all, I rate it mid.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The Kernel Anti Cheat to play this game on PC. Now recently embroiled in AI controversy. I was not an informed consumer prior. I will not be supporting this or games that do this going forward. The roll out was messy also. The digital rewards and codes sweetened things and active social media presence but all of this soured it. Compared to the original 3DS game (2014 I'm old!), Fantasy Life i feels less thoughtfully designed, with excessive grinding, arbitrary progression restrictions, frustrating building mechanics, and limited cooperative features (and more issues below!).
I wish LEVEL-5 would prioritize player convenience, meaningful progression, and removing unnecessary restrictions rather than artificially extending gameplay.
More grinding doesn't mean better progression, leaving me less enthusiastic for the "Celestial Express DLC".
I can recommend Fantasy Life i, but only if you're comfortable with its shortcomings. You know yourself and your wallet better than I do.
Issues
#1 Limited to a single save
You can get around this using Steams family system / other steam account.
#2 Early-Game Progression and Strangeling Restrictions
The introduction is designed for younger audiences; However, there's a noticeable lack of options to skip tutorials and cutscenes. Sitting through roughly 15 minutes of forced introductory content is frustrating when you've already experienced it.
My biggest complaint about early-game progression is the forced Strangeling requirements, with Story and content progression locked behind collecting a certain number of Strangelings. Your homebase also requires specific numbers of Strangelings to remove obstacles.
IMO any restriction to player creativity and fun, is bad game design. I would much rather progress through the story naturally instead of being told I need to collect more companions before I'm allowed to continue.
The original Fantasy Life had a much more satisfying progression structure, in my opinion.
#3 Ginormosia, A Massive Grind
Ginormosia is probably my least favorite aspect of the game's world design.
You explore different regions, defeat enemies, gather materials, complete activities, and earn points to upgrade regional towers which increases the levels of enemies and the rewards available in the region. Other than collecting companions... there is no story or interesting content to keep engagement in this mode (except flashbacks). Just a poorly designed grindfest, Ginormosia feels like a missed opportunity.
#4 The "Free Major DLC The Sinister Broker Bazario's Schemes".
In COOP play, I never see anyone playing it. You experience temporary progression leveling and completing challenges to earn points that can be exchanged for rewards benefiting your actual character.
The original Fantasy Life DLC introduced endgame towers where you challenged increasingly difficult content using the character and equipment you'd spent the game developing. That felt much more rewarding.
#5 Treasure Groves
Treasure Groves somewhat capture this idea, but they introduce another problem: equipment aging and optimization.
If you want a perfect piece of equipment for just one Life? Such as a hammer?
Expect to Remake the item 5-20 times for the perfect roll (requiring redux stones) using stickers to boost the chances of success, and then complete 1-15+ Treasure groves (1 hour time limit tower sessions basically) to try to obtain the desired results of the item.
Now imagine doing this for all your character lives. And then your companions. there's a total of 50 of them, so choose your favorites.
Personally, I think equipment aging should have been incorporated directly into the end of Grove boss encounters, providing a more consistent sense of progression.
I've noticed that many players join Groves just to obtain the free Strangeling soup and leave. Newer players who stay often do so because I can defeat practically everything and power-level their Lives. They change to tailor or alchemist and say "Thanks" or "You are so POWERFUL".
I'm happy to help them, but it does demonstrate how easily the system turns into another repetitive leveling grind.
There is a difference between meaningful progression and simply making progression take longer.
#6 Homebase Building. An Unnecessarily Complicated System
I enjoy decorating my island, modifying the terrain, and arranging buildings.
Unfortunately, the interface makes doing those things far more complicated than necessary.
On PC, when using the Hagram building system:
Press H to enter building mode.
Press B to open your building options.
Select and place an object.
Realize you want to move it.
Press Escape twice to leave the placement interface.
Press E to pick up the object.
Press B again and navigate back to your building options.
The most atrocious failure of game design, just add a pickup option in the build mode!
The building camera and placement controls also make keeping everything consistently aligned more frustrating than necessary.
Then there are Boyle and Cooke in the Homebase Guild Office, these two soulless Plushlings have inflicted more psychological damage upon my patience than any boss in this game.
You can only relocate one building at a time, and you need enough empty space to put it down before moving anything else.
Want to redesign your island?
Prepare to run back and forth from the Guild Office repeatedly just to adjust the terrain and relocate your buildings.
I found myself making roughly 20 trips sorting out my general island layout, followed by another 10 getting things positioned where I wanted.
Now consider doing that for your farms, houses, gallery, personal house, and everything else you've constructed. And your decorations, and landscaping...
The biggest missed opportunity was not allowing players to relocate buildings directly through the Hagram building interface.
Why can't I simply select a house or farm and move it like an ordinary decoration?
Why is there a number restriction on slopes, Bridges, and Stairs?
Why is Terrraforming waterfalls locked behind strangeling related number count progress?
My recent Island took six+ hours to change the terrain and place everything where I wanted.
I only recently decided to build up my island after achieving partially full sets for all my companions.
# 7 Multiplayer.
Treasure Grove bugs. Only once but having a friend ascend the mortal plane or fall underground fighting alone against enemies can be entertaining but not being able to help is annoying. Less than 1% of chance happening to my understanding.
Gifting an item, why can't I gift people the aged items of the best gear? Why does them being in a menu prevent the item from being gifted to them?
Why is there no form of friend list? Most players I will never see again.
Even with my PC Specs, my homebase and game can stutter in my homebase. RTX 4090. 128 GBs of RAM.
Remove/increase the item number counts. It's currently 20 limit for life cures, 99 for consumable items, and 999 for materials.
#8 TOO MUCH GOLD, SENT TO TRIP
If you have to much items and your dosh is maxed out (99 million I think) you will endlessly be spammed with

Popups, which block your view and it shows you an OK button. that you need to press to keep playing the game. It happened every 3 seconds I picked up an item.
My only solution was editing and removing all my gold of my save. Or else just stop playing.

Autocraft, once complete kicks you out of the crafting menu... to reopen and find the item again...

Compared to the original 3DS game (2014 I'm old!), Fantasy Life i feels less thoughtfully designed, with excessive grinding, arbitrary progression restrictions, frustrating building mechanics, and limited cooperative features (and more issues below!).
I wish LEVEL-5 would prioritize player convenience, meaningful progression, and removing unnecessary restrictions rather than artificially extending gameplay.
More grinding doesn't mean better progression, leaving me less enthusiastic for the "Celestial Express DLC".
I can recommend Fantasy Life i, but only if you're comfortable with its shortcomings. You know yourself and your wallet better than I do.
Issues
#1 Limited to a single save
You can get around this using Steams family system / other steam account.
#2 Early-Game Progression and Strangeling Restrictions
The introduction is designed for younger audiences; However, there's a noticeable lack of options to skip tutorials and cutscenes. Sitting through roughly 15 minutes of forced introductory content is frustrating when you've already experienced it.
My biggest complaint about early-game progression is the forced Strangeling requirements, with Story and content progression locked behind collecting a certain number of Strangelings. Your homebase also requires specific numbers of Strangelings to remove obstacles.
IMO any restriction to player creativity and fun, is bad game design. I would much rather progress through the story naturally instead of being told I need to collect more companions before I'm allowed to continue.
The original Fantasy Life had a much more satisfying progression structure, in my opinion.
#3 Ginormosia, A Massive Grind
Ginormosia is probably my least favorite aspect of the game's world design.
You explore different regions, defeat enemies, gather materials, complete activities, and earn points to upgrade regional towers which increases the levels of enemies and the rewards available in the region. Other than collecting companions... there is no story or interesting content to keep engagement in this mode (except flashbacks). Just a poorly designed grindfest, Ginormosia feels like a missed opportunity.
#4 The "Free Major DLC The Sinister Broker Bazario's Schemes".
In COOP play, I never see anyone playing it. You experience temporary progression leveling and completing challenges to earn points that can be exchanged for rewards benefiting your actual character.
The original Fantasy Life DLC introduced endgame towers where you challenged increasingly difficult content using the character and equipment you'd spent the game developing. That felt much more rewarding.
#5 Treasure Groves
Treasure Groves somewhat capture this idea, but they introduce another problem: equipment aging and optimization.
If you want a perfect piece of equipment for just one Life? Such as a hammer?
Expect to Remake the item 5-20 times for the perfect roll (requiring redux stones) using stickers to boost the chances of success, and then complete 1-15+ Treasure groves (1 hour time limit tower sessions basically) to try to obtain the desired results of the item.
Now imagine doing this for all your character lives. And then your companions. there's a total of 50 of them, so choose your favorites.
Personally, I think equipment aging should have been incorporated directly into the end of Grove boss encounters, providing a more consistent sense of progression.
I've noticed that many players join Groves just to obtain the free Strangeling soup and leave. Newer players who stay often do so because I can defeat practically everything and power-level their Lives. They change to tailor or alchemist and say "Thanks" or "You are so POWERFUL".
I'm happy to help them, but it does demonstrate how easily the system turns into another repetitive leveling grind.
There is a difference between meaningful progression and simply making progression take longer.
#6 Homebase Building. An Unnecessarily Complicated System
I enjoy decorating my island, modifying the terrain, and arranging buildings.
Unfortunately, the interface makes doing those things far more complicated than necessary.
On PC, when using the Hagram building system:
Press H to enter building mode.
Press B to open your building options.
Select and place an object.
Realize you want to move it.
Press Escape twice to leave the placement interface.
Press E to pick up the object.
Press B again and navigate back to your building options.
The most atrocious failure of game design, just add a pickup option in the build mode!
The building camera and placement controls also make keeping everything consistently aligned more frustrating than necessary.
Then there are Boyle and Cooke in the Homebase Guild Office, these two soulless Plushlings have inflicted more psychological damage upon my patience than any boss in this game.
You can only relocate one building at a time, and you need enough empty space to put it down before moving anything else.
Want to redesign your island?
Prepare to run back and forth from the Guild Office repeatedly just to adjust the terrain and relocate your buildings.
I found myself making roughly 20 trips sorting out my general island layout, followed by another 10 getting things positioned where I wanted.
Now consider doing that for your farms, houses, gallery, personal house, and everything else you've constructed. And your decorations, and landscaping...
The biggest missed opportunity was not allowing players to relocate buildings directly through the Hagram building interface.
Why can't I simply select a house or farm and move it like an ordinary decoration?
Why is there a number restriction on slopes, Bridges, and Stairs?
Why is Terrraforming waterfalls locked behind strangeling related number count progress?
My recent Island took six+ hours to change the terrain and place everything where I wanted.
I only recently decided to build up my island after achieving partially full sets for all my companions.
# 7 Multiplayer.
Treasure Grove bugs. Only once but having a friend ascend the mortal plane or fall underground fighting alone against enemies can be entertaining but not being able to help is annoying. Less than 1% of chance happening to my understanding.
Gifting an item, why can't I gift people the aged items of the best gear? Why does them being in a menu prevent the item from being gifted to them?
Why is there no form of friend list? Most players I will never see again.
Even with my PC Specs, my homebase and game can stutter in my homebase. RTX 4090. 128 GBs of RAM.
Remove/increase the item number counts. It's currently 20 limit for life cures, 99 for consumable items, and 999 for materials.
#8 TOO MUCH GOLD, SENT TO TRIP
If you have to much items and your dosh is maxed out (99 million I think) you will endlessly be spammed with

Popups, which block your view and it shows you an OK button. that you need to press to keep playing the game. It happened every 3 seconds I picked up an item.
My only solution was editing and removing all my gold of my save. Or else just stop playing.

Autocraft, once complete kicks you out of the crafting menu... to reopen and find the item again...

I LOVED THIS GAME. And honestly, I could probably leave the review at that, but apparently Steam expects me to use actual words instead of just screaming affectionately into the void.
Fantasy Life i is the gaming equivalent of being wrapped in a cosy blanket, handed a cup of tea, and told you can do absolutely whatever you want. Want to be a mighty warrior? Go for it. A wizard? Absolutely. A humble gatherer collecting sticks and rocks like the fate of the universe depends on it? YOU DO YOU, BESTIE.
And these things are, OF COURSE, equally important to my happiness.
The beauty of this game is that it lets you live approximately seventeen different lives without ever making you feel like you're doing something wrong. You can spend hours fighting monsters, gathering resources, crafting equipment, fishing, cooking, mining, or wandering around picking up things off the ground (because apparently I have the resource-gathering instincts of a particularly enthusiastic raccoon)
You know what I mean. You set out to do one simple quest, spot a shiny rock, decide you need to mine it, realise you're missing the right materials, go hunting for those materials, discover a new area, get distracted by a monster, remember you need better equipment, spend an hour crafting said equipment, and then completely forget what the original quest was.
And somehow, this is the BEST TIME EVER.
The Life system is brilliant because every profession feels like it has a purpose. You're not just choosing a class and sticking with it until the end of time. You're building a whole collection of skills that complement one another, and the satisfaction of gathering your own materials, crafting your own gear, and then using that gear on your next adventure is ridiculously rewarding.
It's the circle of life, except instead of a majestic lion standing on a rock, it's me standing next to a crafting station wondering why I've spent forty minutes making furniture I absolutely did not need.
The world itself is gorgeous, full of charm, colourful environments, adorable characters, and enough things to discover to keep my curiosity permanently switched on. There's always something else to explore, something new to unlock, or another little task that somehow becomes the most important thing in the world.
And the quality-of-life improvements make everything feel so much smoother. The game understands that sometimes you want an adventure, and sometimes you want to spend an unreasonable amount of time organising your resources and making your character look fabulous. Both are valid lifestyles, and Fantasy Life i supports them equally.
The customisation is another huge win. Getting to make your own character and shape your own adventure makes the experience feel personal. This isn't just someone else's fantasy story you're watching unfold. It's YOUR little world, YOUR adventures, YOUR collection of increasingly ridiculous activities, and YOUR responsibility to explain why you've spent the last three hours gathering materials instead of progressing the story.
The game also has that dangerous quality where you keep thinking, I'll just play for another ten minutes.

You blink, and suddenly half your evening has disappeared. You've leveled up three different Lives, crafted enough equipment to outfit a small army, filled your inventory with things you swear you'll need later, and somehow achieved absolutely nothing you originally intended to do.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
Verdict: Fantasy Life i is an absolute delight. It's cosy without being boring, adventurous without being stressful, and packed with so much charm and variety that there's always something you'll want to do next. It's the perfect game for anyone who loves RPGs, crafting, exploration, character progression, and the freedom to play at their own pace.
But more than that, it's a game that makes you HAPPY to play it. There's no pressure to rush, no need to follow one particular path, and no shame in spending an entire afternoon doing something completely unnecessary simply because it's fun.
Five stars. Ten stars. Give me all the stars. I would happily abandon my real-life responsibilities to go fishing, become a master blacksmith, fight some monsters, decorate my house, and then spend another six hours collecting rocks because apparently I have become one with the mountain.
