Its environment is heavily UNIX inspired, and the Wi-Fi hacking sequence at the beginning is surprisingly accurate. Unfortunately, I quickly became frustrated by the lack of depth in both the systems and the wider world.
Give me a terminal, especially in a sandbox, and I am going to experiment. That is what I do in real life, and it is exactly what draws me to games like this. However, the developers do not appear to have accounted for solutions or actions outside the intended linear path through each puzzle.
For example, I removed the root directory and immediately triggered a Unity crash screen, which was a complete immersion breaker. Worse still, there was no meaningful fail state. After reloading, the operating system continued running without its root directory, leaving the player unable to progress because essential files were missing.
This could have been turned into a brilliant gameplay moment. A simple check could return the player to a BIOS or recovery shell, creating an immersive new puzzle. How do you recover the system after root has been deleted, whether by you or by somebody else?
Another issue is that the game’s world has not yet been developed enough to support the kinds of social engineering solutions that would make sense in real life. Some targets supposedly have an online presence or use social media, but those systems do not meaningfully exist within the game. This forces the player towards more obscure and less interesting solutions, even when a believable real world approach should be available.
Sadly, in its current state, HackHub feels less like a true hacking sandbox and more like a promising environment built around a series of linear puzzles. The foundations are excellent, but the game needs more systemic depth, better fail states, and a world that properly reacts to player experimentation before it can deliver on its potential.

Not entirely accurate, but close enough that you'll have college credit when you're done. Some things are made quite a bit easier than they would actually be, but for the most part the process is accurate and the visualization is spot on. There are even story lines to follow, so you aren't just hacking for no apparent reason either. I, personally am in love with this game. The soundtrack is the exact music I code to, also. 10/10\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

my only complaint is - i wish there was something like upgrades, PC parts, etc, to spend your money on. the game could have a lot more replayability with that addition imo.

I think its a pretty strong foundation for mod content and maybe more updates over time so it really becomes one of the better hacking sim games, if not the best. I found the journalists' sister plot to be pretty weak, I just learned some python scripts now I'm hacking the jihad. As a tutorial it's fine, I think it would benefit from taking things a little less over the top. People want clean social media usernames, some internet money, nudes of a girl they like, accounts to sell, idk. those small shady daily life stuff and you could still decide not to do these things and take some pen testing offers and find interessting little sidestories on others PCs you can choose to follow. So you have this little "ok lets just see if this leads to something" feeling when you found something and you discovered it yourself.
Greyhack also had the advantage that every website and host you found out about was hackable in some way or the other. Here it seems to be more scripted, lots of websites you learn about give 404, lots of pcs you hack feel pretty generic. Immersion wise it would be cool if it would just feel a little more real.
Like I said the foundation is really really strong. Maybe the community will do the heavy lifting with some pretty cool mods or the game will develop further, idk. It's still a recommendation. I think a lot of time already went into ui/ux and tech. Now stories, quests, tasks, worldbuilding would deserve some love imo.

Logging in and out of bank accounts makes it very easy to lose your password in the jumble. I even tried "hacking" into the bank system to get my account back but I was very disappointed when the domain name didn't return a result. Now my progress is stuck since I can't send the bird man any money!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I went through about 10 attack scenarios and there really isn't much room for completing missions outside of how it exactly wants you to do it. Namely on mission 12 you need to get the bank credentials of a target, log into their bank account, and transfer funds to another account.
