RimWorld is one of those games where you can easily lose hundreds of hours without noticing. The base game is already fantastic, but with all the DLCs it becomes an absolute sandbox of endless stories, chaos, and creativity.
The colony management mechanics are incredibly deep. You are not just building walls and farming resources, you are managing people with different personalities, traits, skills, relationships, moods, addictions, and mental breaks. A single mistake, harsh winter, raid, disease outbreak, or badly timed fire can spiral into complete disaster, which makes surviving feel genuinely rewarding. The difficulty can be brutal at times, but that is exactly what creates memorable stories instead of simple victories.
The storyteller system makes every colony feel different since each AI storyteller changes the pacing and flow of the game entirely. One playthrough can feel calm and focused on growth while another becomes nonstop suffering and desperate survival against impossible odds.
The DLCs expand the experience even further. The colony management mechanics are incredibly deep. You are not just building walls and farming resources, you are managing people with different personalities, traits, skills, relationships, moods, addictions, and mental breaks. A single mistake, harsh winter, raid, disease outbreak, or badly timed fire can spiral into complete disaster, which makes surviving feel genuinely rewarding. The difficulty can be brutal at times, but that is exactly what creates memorable stories instead of simple victories.
The storyteller system makes every colony feel different since each AI storyteller changes the pacing and flow of the game entirely. One playthrough can feel calm and focused on growth while another becomes nonstop suffering and desperate survival against impossible odds.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tOkay, so I waited intentionally to give this game a review until I had some hours in it. And let me tell you, it is GREAT. The best colony sim I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It does a really good job in creating a story. For example;
I had a colony of 4 people. We got raided. I captured one of the raiders alive, converted him, and recruited him. He ended up falling in love with one of my colonists. He is a great crafter, so he kept leveling up and up. One day, he made a masterwork weapon. It told me the engraving he put on the weapon, and it was basically a portrait of his lover, sitting in front of a tree tending the other colonists (she was the medic).
Little moments like that are everywhere in this game, and they make the world feel alive! I never thought I'd care about these little people in my computer as much as I do. Its devastating when one of them dies.
Now onto the DLC. I bought the base game, then soon after bought Ideology, Royalty, Biotech, and Odyssey. I must say, Biotech, and Odyssey are basically native gameplay. Both add so much to the game and it feels like they should be in to begin with, but I'm glad they're not because I can support the dev more. Another example;
One of my original colonists was older when we crash landed. Over time she aged obviously. Eventually she got a bad back from old age (she was our farmer). Wasn't a gamechanger, she just slowed down movement speed wise, no big deal. Years(?) passed, and eventually she started falling. Needing someone to go out to the field and pick her up, and bring her to the hospital wing. Where she would stay for a bit, then go back out. It started happening more and more often. She wasn't getting anything done. So you know what I did? I removed her spine! And replace it with a bionic spine. Since then, she moves around like she's 23 again. Has never fallen since. And this same premise applies to someone who's arms or legs were cut/shot off. Just replace the missing limb with a better bionic upgrade! They'll get better performance out of it. But! With the traits in the game, someone can dislike bionic body parts being placed on them, or others. Or furthermore, with the Ideology DLC, you can set up your ideology (religion) to despise bionic replacements. Or go the opposite way, and have them LOVE it, and get upset if they're all flesh and bone.
Also, the progression in this game is so smart. Another example;
There is a caravanning system. Traveling to other colonies to trade or raid. But I was scared. I was happy in my little bubble colony, and I didn't wanna leave. Until I had to. A mechanoid cluster formed about 10 or so tiles away from my colony. Who cares, they're far away right? Well, no not right. They have a toxic spewer, poisoning the entire region. I had to go and kill them, before everything died. So I was forced out of my bubble, and eventually successfully defeating the robotic menace at the cost of one of my better melee combatants. Had a funeral for her, and traveled back. The game made me step out of my comfort zone in a natural way. Forced yes, but I had a reason to go. From that point on, I've been more comfortable traveling out.
Oh and MODS! MODS galore! All from the steam workshop. No double doors for some reason? Mod. Medical system is a bit too dull for you? Mod. Want multiplayer with modded compatabilities? Mod. More hair? Mod. The community is GREAT.
I only have 2 gripes with this game. One is an annoyance, and another is a design choice(technical limitation?) I don't really agree with. First, the annoyance. Not sure if my mods caused this, but every winter it snows. And the snow KILLS my frames. I have an amazing computer, and the game runs at 180 frames at all times. Except for when it snows. I will literally go from 180 frames at 3x speed, down to 10 frames. But if I set it to 1x speed, back up to 180 frames. Idk. And my other gripe, veterans of this game will know what it is. Multiple layers. In this game, you are restricted to one layer. No basements, no attics, no prisoner dungeons underground. No way to shoot over your walls without a mortar. And honestly it bugged me for longer than it should have. And it still does to be honest. Like, why? Im not talking about Dwarf Fortress. I'm talking one up and one down. You could even make a lore accurate reason for this. Bugs will detect if you go further than 1 layer down, and mechanoids will detect you if you go further than one layer up. But I digress. People have been moaning over this feature for 10 years. I hope its added. I really do, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. If it gets added through a DLC costing $50? I'll gladly buy day one.

Не знаю как эта игра прошла мимо меня, учитывая что она вышла в 18ом году, а я большой любитель стратенгий. наверное, пропустил из-аз графики. но так или иначе я 1й раз запустил игру в 26ом году. супер, очень глубокая и продуманная.

I personally enjoy naming my colonists after close friends or family to make the things that happens to them seem more consequential. There is basically no two of the same Rimworld run. I find most of my colonies get stale before I get to hydroponics though. Managing their mental health is exhausting.
The world is downright ugly, and some of the choices behind the graphical representation put me off a bit. I have to say, when your peers are Dwarf Fortress, Prison Architect, and The Escapists, I personally would try and create something a bit more captivating on the visual side to push the envelope. We will just have to be cautious in the future before buying games on launch, to wait and see how exorbitant they'll become. Ideology DLC isn't worth it, should've been patched into the game, and add new ideologies with the other DLC's.. You shouldn't need a DLC for pawns to have kids. But Biotech definitely adds enough flavor to almost justify paying $30 for an indie game DLC.. No way should this game cost more that triple A games on release... The DLC's shouldn't be more than $15 for a game like this. I won't be looking forward to a Rimworld 2 or any paradox games in the future. Goodbye rim world\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
