This feels like the first true "multiplayer" game I've played in years. I play a lot of games, almost all of them multiplayer but they feel like singleplayer experiences if that makes sense. We've lost a lot of the sense of community, everyone is in a private discord with their friends, nobody talks in games except for callouts or to trash talk your last play.

well this game felt like I had returned to early 2000's public lobby servers. 8 people with open mics, multiple conversations about nothing going on. beautiful noise of community.

My first game I spawned in alone and was scared, I heard a voice in the distance and made a friend. The guy taught me a lot of the basics, then we met a 3rd player and their mom was cooking in the background using every pan and pot in the house making as much noise as possible, it was awful. but an hour later as we were all getting on to the helicopter it was me and my first friend shouting at that loud pan noise player to hurry up as he weaved through the zombies at low hp towards the helicopter. A lot of games don't have moments like this anymore.

Also this game gets intense, the ramp up feels good. The first bit of a map is just running around doing parkour on the zombies while the last 15 minutes of a map feels like you just hope you can make it out.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tThe game is in a solid state now. It's finally hitting it's stride that it SHOULD have started with during it's initial release. Almost all complaints from 2 years ago have been properly addressed and have been ironed out legitimately. The shining elements that it did show back then, can finally truly shine brightly now. The game understands and completely nails what makes zombie games fun. The zombies. If you're a romero fan, you'll find a lot to love here with the zombies in this game. They actually improved alot of visual feedback on visceral gore and feedback on zombies. Depending on where and what you hit, it will be reflected. You can bash and crack parts of the skull wide open. Straight up unhinge and rip off jaws. This applies to shooting as well. Depending on the caliber of your firearm, it will reflect the type of damage you do. 22 punches holes in heads, 9mm cracks open skulls, 45 punches through skulls, and 357 blast holes behind skulls. Shotguns shreds and tears apart faces and chests, etc. The core gameplay of its combat is the best part of the game, as it should be. The maps are expansive and large but still maintain an incredible level of detail and environmental story telling. The visuals, sound design, and overall presentation are fantastic and very immersive. Speaking of sound, I'm very happy to hear ThOughTs OST finally getting the proper mixing it deserves. The new tracks are great and I can finally actually hear it now, as the music even when maxed out on volume was way too quiet in the past. The overhaul to the loadout system is a good change aswell. No more being able to eventually just be able to have the best weapons in the game at the very start, or straight up bring a literal cure to virus just on their person at the start of the match. The newest map Raven Rock is quickly becoming one of my favorite maps, right next to powerplant. Matchmaking is working as intended finally and I'm able to find matches quickly, though probably due to the renewed playercount and addition of crossplay. The game is solid, but I still do have some criticisms of it. The first thing that sticks out of my mind is the lack luster cosmetics that was promised to be expanded. It isn't. it's 3 upper and lower garments, with 5 new gloves and 2 new voicepacks. Most of the garments you can earn and spend credits to get, where already in the game previously and now have to earn again. There are also DLC outfits, which is just dirt in my face honestly. Could have just been 4 more cosmetics to actually grind and earn. Despite praising the presentation of the maps, mechanically and from a gameplay design stand point, not all maps are made equal. And half of the objective maps vary from being decent to kind of unfun and repetitive. Lewiston in particular is probably my least favorite map and ironically enough the fastest map to finish. Speaking of repetitive, I do believe that's another thing i will levy against the game. I don't believe even in its current state, there are enough alternating main and sub objectives that will keep the playerbase coming back to keep playing them. Some of the objectives can be pretty drab, boring to do, and sometimes only require one player to actually do it, rather than encouraging a team effort on everyone's part. Another criticism is the skill system. This is a personal grievance and distaste but I do not care for it. The whole risk of permadeath and losing the character and the skills gained is lost on me. The tension from the moment to moment gameplay is plenty enough. I'm not saying the skills aren't useful, but this whole system is just shallow and carries no weight in decision making or character building in any way. Could've been development time spent on more cosmetics if you ask me. This isn't my personal critique but I do see and have heard in game from other players that they are not running the game all that well despite the claim of optimizing the game in this update. I, myself am feeling the optimization improvements significantly. The game is running a lot more smoother for me since initial launch and the 0.9.0 update. So this could be an GPU/CPU specific issue. Also the new voicepacks are just cringey. And not in the fun, cheesy way. More like annoying. Trying way too hard to be quirky and relatable. I could compare apples to oranges and complain about the differences between the first game and this one. Really dive into small and niche things about what the sequel got rid off in removing minor game mechanics. The entirety of not having mod support, which just hurts the replayability that the first game had. However I'll judge this game on its own merits. The game is good. But it needs to continue it's momentum and add more. More of..well everything. Some weapons are still missing from the first game, like the fan favorite AK, SKS and the glock. All of which I fully assume will be added down the road. More unique infected can help add more variety to gameplay. More maps are obvious. Overall, after 2 years later, now in its current state, I give it a 7/10. Is this game a worthy sucessor to the original? Debately now, yes I believe so. It's not easy, if you're expecting L4D or a more arcade style game - this isn't it.

I suggest watching some vids if you're on the fence. Please don't go in blind and then give a bad review because you had 0 idea what you were getting into.

Also, you can mute players - there's a bad review saying you can't. It's wrong.

EDIT 2 (28AUG26): Still recommend, having a blast. Check out the devs known issues list and what they're working on - pretty exciting stuff.

New Player Recommendations:
1. Learn the maps on easier difficulties - map/objective variation knowledge isn't something you want to worry about on hard and nightmare.

2. If you're worried early on about losing a responder, keep one primary that always has a beacon. If you lose the beacon and can't buy another, use your other two responder slots to farm resources until you can go back to your primary.

3. Read the room - some teams are trying to work together and help, sometimes you have to fend for yourself. You'll have a better time if you're ready to go with the flow rather than getting frustrated because randos don't live up to your expectations.

4. Don't be afraid to early extract if you're in over your head. A radio message comes up on your screen - you have to open your map to find the locations. You don't lose anything, you just get a tiny bit of experience.

Disconnects & My Recommendations:
I've seen a lot of complaints about disconnects resulting in responder loss and wanted to add my input. I've disconnected twice now. One was a true disconnect and I was able to rejoin with no consequence. Another was my fault completely - I fat fingered something, went into windowed, and crashed. I was unable to reconnect BUT I didn't lose anything and my responder actually still gained XP.

I have also quit games to test disconnect functionality, closed computer, alt tabbed, etc. Each time I've intentionally done it, I've lost my beacon/loadout.

Now, if you are someone who routinely disconnects from online games, the game in its current state probably isn't for you.

If bad internet / routine disconnects aren't a problem - the game gives you several solutions to avoiding responder loss:
1. Beacons - purchase as insurance. If you die/disconnect, you don't lose your responder. 1-time use but can be repurchased.

2. Early extract - not a solution for true disconnects but if you're having a rough game, team is not experienced enough, or you get infected early and it seems like low drop rate for pills, etc. it will prevent you from losing a beacon & loadout.

3. Disconnect protection - devs have already made improvements and seem committed to working on it further. Seems to be working as intended with my testing.

EDIT (17AUG26):
To clarify, you cannot mute INDIVIDUAL players from the escape menu - you have to do it from settings. This seems to be a function that was lost in one of the recent patches, I've seen speculation that it might have to do with crossplay.

For the Devs:
-More progression (a safe room that has permanent enhancements for all your survivors that you build up would be cool), more cosmetics to unlock, etc.
-More maps
-Good job on the known issues - make it more visible for the duds in your community so they know you're working on stuff.
-Allow solo mode to be practice or for real (with better rewards?)

But my first two matches in a row, i was disconnected from the host and one of my characters loadout was lost for something that was not my fault - you would think they would just give you everything you owned and got up to that point seeing as it was not your fault. The second run, idk if i got anything back as i didint wait to find out. i quit right after that lol. I cannot imagine having this happen to me with a fully kitted loadout. \n\t\t\t\t\tI really like this game and the slow pace of it and the sluggish combat which is satisfying despite the fact that I usually don't like this type of combat, the inventory system is also smart and not overly tiny which would be annoying.

HOWEVER, I have two issues that are major that prevent me from recommending it to my friends who have been asking me about this game because they were interested in it:

Issue #1: The BIGGEST issue. Disconnecting from a match because of dropped internet results in your characters perma death. 100 hours on a character with lots of credits spent on an ideal starting loadout and great perks? OOPS, the devs think you deserve to lose all that hard work because you don't have perfect internet and had the audacity to lose your internet connection through no fault of your own. A friend I was playing with disconnected from a match we were doing duo because his internet dropped for a minute as his internet provider sucks. Once he regained internet he tried to reconnect but was unable to as we saw no option to rejoin or reinvite him and his character he had leveled up, and this was his starting game character, was gone. Progress lost because the devs have it so that if you disconnect, it counts as a death.

I'm assuming this is done to prevent cowards from disconnecting to avoid losing their high level characters. BUT I DO NOT CARE. Let cowards exist. I would rather there be too many maxed out characters in this game if it meant I didn't have to fear losing my hours of progression because I lost power or my internet dropped for a bit. If I lose a character I want it to be from zombies overwhelming me, or me making a mistake. Not because of outside real life influences. This one issue alone is having me tell my friends to not bother with the game. I can accept all other issues, but in a game with perma death, this issue is intolerable.


Issue #2: My second biggest complaint is another huge issue with the game. Zombies hitting me before their telegraphed attack actually visibly hits me. An example would be a zombie is going to swing at me to attack me and visibly you can see their arms still at their side, mid swing, but your character takes damage early. Melee I can see being an important part of this game for stealth and conserving ammo as I'm barely at normal difficulty and find myself using melee a fair bit to save ammo. But I find the only way to safely do melee combat is to kick down zombies and kill them while they're on the ground because if they actually perform their attack animation, there's a 50% chance the attack hits you early and you take unavoidable damage, or the attack goes through normally and you can try avoiding it as the game intended. My first death in this game was caused by chip damage from zombies getting free hits on me because their attacks were hitting me earlier than the game was telegraphing.

It's the equivalent of taking damage from an enemies gun AND THEN you see their gun fire. Imagine if Dark Souls had this issue? A boss attack hitting you and dealing damage before the attack actually hits you sometimes, players would hate it as you can't even even adjust your dodge for the early hit because it doesn't always happen. I wouldn't even chalk this up to lag either (unless servers are REALLY bad) as I was the host playing with only one other player and I'm on a good wired internet connection.

If the devs change character death upon forced disconnect, then I'll change this review to recommended because it really is fun... when it works. Even with zombies having BS hit telegraphing sometimes.\t\t\t\t\t

The core issue with No More Room in Hell 2 right now is the player base's complete misconception of what the game actually is. A massive portion of the lobby treats this title like a hardcore extraction shooter. They load into matches with a total "every man for himself" mindset, sprinting straight toward loot spawns, hoarding high-tier gear, and treating fellow survivors like temporary meat shields or competitors.

Because people are playing it like a battle royale or an extraction run, teamplay is practically non-existent in public lobbies. There is zero tactical communication, no sharing of ammo or medical supplies, and absolutely no coordination when handling horde surges. The moment things go sideways, your so-called teammates will abandon you without a second thought. If you get pinned, downed, or overwhelmed by a crowd of infected, don't expect anyone to turn around and clear the area, they will literally watch you bleed out, wait for you to die, and then loot your corpse for whatever you were carrying.

The tension, atmosphere, and methodical survival co-op that made the original game special completely fall apart in this environment. Instead of a tense, coordinated fight for survival where every player’s contribution counts, public matches devolve into a chaotic rat race where everyone is trying to speedrun their own progression.

No More Room in Hell 2 has the potential to be a great survival experience, but only if every player on the team is on the same page. Until the community mindset shifts or until developer design choices discourage this selfish extraction playstyle, playing with randoms is a deeply frustrating experience.

Verdict: Buy it if you have a few friends who understand actual co-op survival. If you're a solo player looking for good teamplay in public matchmaking, pass on this for now.\t\t\t\t\t

No More Room in Hell 2 is the perfect game if you’ve ever wondered, “What if Left 4 Dead had less hope, more panic, and teammates who communicate exclusively through screaming?”

The zombies are terrifying, the guns feel chunky, and every mission starts with confidence and ends with someone yelling “RUN! RUN! RUN!” while I’m trying to reload.

The best part is teamwork. Nothing builds friendship faster than watching your buddy get surrounded by zombies while everyone else debates whether saving him is worth the ammunition.

Pros:

Zombies: very rude.
Guns: satisfying.
Teamwork: occasionally exists.
Panic: 10/10.
Looting: surprisingly exciting for someone stealing my fxxking medkit during the apocalypse.

Cons:

Zombies don't respect personal space.
Your teammates may have the survival instincts of a potato.
You will absolutely say “I’ve got this” immediately before everything goes horribly wrong.
The guy who said “stay together” is somehow already 300 meters away.

Overall, No More Room in Hell 2 is a chaotic zombie co-op experience where survival is optional, screaming is mandatory, and your greatest enemy may be the 7 strangers you queued with.

\n\t\t\t\t\t TLDR The game's pretty good at the time of 1.0 after they ironed out what made the past get review bombed beyond dustbowl spam. Had a huge blast after giving the game a second chance as promised after it baked past early access.

I remembered almost 2 years ago this game had a very turbulent start with its optimization, zombie spawns, and the shopping list of bugs that would make any frog jealous. As promised by my word, I would make a new review if I gave NMRIH 2 a second chance after early access. I can't believe I already have over 100 hours in this game and almost forgot about reviewing it.

Besides the more realistic gameplay of having to check ammo, the game isn't COD or L4D and whatever else is plastered all over the reviews. It does a heck of job of really putting you on the edge of your seat with your typical romero zombies with a sprinkle of runners- or the whole seasoning packet if you're constantly running nightmare and nobody's bothering the screamers / skinny green stinkers.

I have not encountered any major bugs or disconnects thankfully yet, and the beacon is a thankful loadout eater of insurance to have. However, I have encountered a movement based bug here and there. I have not been able to reliably replicate it since it randomly happens and goes, but sometimes your screen thinks you're walking but the game says sprinting. Problem is that you will always slow climb ladders because of the game not being on the same page, and it makes your screen kinda choppy if you run so something to look out for.

Suggestions:

- Character disconnect / crash protection

- Choose map / region / max ping

- Make the beacon not take a loadout slot

- Only lose items from loadout slots, instead of the whole shop of items bought on death / rescue

- Hard and nightmare level gated or at least must play the tutorial first

- Draw on map or at least click to mark stuff that's looted / has horde / etc (Client and/or server side)

For New Responder:

- 50% or less HP is when your health bar has 4 pulses / blips from the EKG instead of 3, 20% or less is 5. At 50% or less HP you can become infected through zombie swipes besides your average bite or stink cloud.

- Stink clouds from screamers don't directly damage so no point in caring if you already have big brother rabies.

- Shoves and kicks have god frames and are extremely good time savers / breathing room.

- Abuse the doors and open windows, much easier time to fight or run away.

- Ideally upgrade from 22 LR when you can, or collect more as other players do since the ammo is easier to find. Zombies take normally 2 headshots on beginner and 3 headshots everywhere else compared to 1-2 shot otherwise.

- Early extract if the team's dying faster than expert realism and can't finish up easily, or you're infected and can't get pills within the next 1-3 mins depending how far the extraction is. Veins only come when you have 1 min on your death timer unlike at the start from original NMRIH, also a good time to take pills or wait out until that near death sound effect (12 sec left vs 5 sec use) to take if it's safe and really ultra valuing pills.

- Have a safe area in mind when dealing with hot objectives, an example is hospital ventilation. The second floor roof past the van / locked gate is good to camp for the 2-3 mins.

- Charged attacks will briefly stun runners including light follow ups, all lights will still make them hit you outside of sledge and other top melees.

- Sturdy body and thick skin is very good all the way, from starting off to nightmare fuel.

- Hold G or whatever your controller has and release to throw weapons if you got the thrown kills weekly assignment. Ideally do this after 1-2 light hits on loners to reduce headache.

I've 90+ hours in with 1 character at 100 and 2 in the 90s. All had beacons on Saturday morning until I spawned into the first game only to get disconnected as I got to the supply crate....character was saved but lost the 2000 credit beacon. Didn't have enough credits to buy another beacon so switched player. Spawned in...and it happened again. So 2 players lost beacons due to server disconnect within 5 minutes of logging into the game on Saturday and I haven't played since.

I'm not risking losing 100 level characters to this be, especially now when the game has become a fast sprint running simulation that speed runners are running every game, hoarding every single bit of loot, ammo and bandages then sprinting to the extraction as fast as possible and if you take 1 detour, you'll miss the extraction.

Speed runners and loot hoarders will kill this game and I personally won't be playing it again until a proper solo mode that allows us to earn xp and progression, is added.

A good game getting ruined by asshoes.
