It has better art, better animations, better ui, a nice lore compedium that is being filled out, multiplayer, new characters, new enemies, and lowering of the number of ascensions so it doesn't feel as daunting to get full ascension on all characters. It has a great amount of polish already and feels like a game worth its price tag.
All that being said, the game is in early access right now so many things are up for potential changes as they try to get the game balanced for what they would like. Enemies will changed to be harder/easier as they see fit. Cards can and will have their text rewritten and become something else entirely. If you like a style of build right now and it's very easy to achieve a win with it, chances are it will get nerfed by the time full release comes around. If that sounds like something you'd hate to experience to the point that it makes the game unenjoyable for you, do not buy the game right now. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tDropping a review to counteract the chinese players review bombing the game, because their way of playing the game (trying to get an infinite every run) is getting nerfed for a legitimate reason (infinites are too easy to get and too braindead to execute, which has now been partially fixed), alongside some insanely easy bosses being buffed to be actually threatening, which also displeases the chinese players because they want to win every Ascension 10 run. (the current max difficulty, meant to be extremely challenging) If you like turning your brain off while playing a card game that requires more than ten neurons hooking up to each other, you can skip this game I guess. Go play Honkai Star Rail or something, heard it has an auto mode.

The new classes are a lot fun and I really love the changes to the older classes like the Defect having more temporary focus options instead of permanent ones.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI was reluctant to leave a negative review due to the game's current status as early access, but after careful reading of various positions regarding the game and listening to arguments from my friends who have also extensively played the game, I feel compelled to weigh in on this. Let me first say that I adored the first Slay the Spire game, when it came out I played the game quite a bit unmodded, as the developers intended, and then later explored the modded experience for many years. When the new game was announced I was excited to hear the team was making a sequel (more of the amazing game I love), and, to my surprise, co-operative gameplay was going to be a major focus for development! To be honest, I probably would have bought the game eventually even if co-op hadn't been a focus (after it went on sale, as a I do with most single player games I'm interested in), but as a primary co-op gamer this was a huge selling point to me. So, instead of waiting I purchased the game as soon as it was available on Steam. This is something I rarely do these days due to how frequently early access games are scams and disappointments, so for me I was taking a risk based off a brand and developer that I trust.
I've played a lot of this game, both in Co-Op and in single player. I'll even secretly put Steam in offline mode late at night/early morning so no one can see me sneak in a game or two when I should be sleeping. It is, by and large, a blast. Its more Slay the Spire, I love Slay the Spire, so what could I possibly have to complain about? But throughout all of my games, the more I play it, there is this pervasive, nagging doubt that I can't quite shake. It finally crystalized with the Doormaker change, after which all of my friends quit playing: this is just a bad Slay the Spire mod.
Slay the Spire 1 has a large modding community. It even has multiplayer mods. It has several different versions even, you can do assistive coop like this game, or you can do competitive multiplayer where you compare results. It has tons of boss mods, relic mods, card mods, character mods, tons of options to kit out and customize you game. Basically, anything this game has you can find a Slay the Spire 1 mod that's already done it, and if its good I've likely already played it. I'm not suggesting that a game studio should have to compete with its modding community when they make a sequel, like I said I was already aware of the StS1 modding scene game when I purchased a copy of StS2. That's not the point. The point is this is a BAD mod. If someone put this on Steam workshop for the first game, it would get downvoted to oblivion so quickly that I would never had even seen it.
This isn't to say that its buggy, or broken, or offensive in any way. Its just, I guess I want to say, boring. It isn't innovative, it isn't clever, its the same assets reshuffled in ways that make fights more annoying. Okay, now the Three Sentries are visually small and can show up in normal fights, annoying but whatever. Spire Shield and Spear are a crab now, okay, fine. Gremlin Nob is a big bird that you can't play around, it just gets stronger no matter what, okay, cool. On and on, every fight, every Elite, every boss is kind of, okay, you are just re-hashing the first game. Except when they aren't. And when they aren't is where the game is plain annoying. Here's this event that can in no way be skipped, its going to ruin your deck and there is nothing you can do about. Sorry! Here's this enemy that punishes you for playing power heavy decks, hope you aren't playing a Defect build explicitly built around playing powers. Oh, did we strongly imply that was a viable build? Sorry! And then the Doormaker rework.
Here's the thing. He's beatable, he isn't even exceptionally broken or hard. Its just that in order to beat him, you can't build you deck in a number of ways, ways that are generally the most natural, fun, and enjoyable way to experience the game. One thing is you just can't have an exceptionally thin deck. Only the game supplies with with ample tools to thin your deck, shop removal, events that remove, the cook ability that can rapidly get your deck to razor thin card count... all a trap now so you can lose to Doormaker. So you built a thick deck to not die to the exhaust portion, but you added a bunch of draw effects to get you to the relevant block cards so you can live? Too bad, you can't draw cards on his scrutiny phase. Playing some sort of low cost combo deck? Hope you have some way to beat the Grasp mechanic. The new Doormaker is just such a pile of annoying Stacks/Floodgate mechanics that its clear the developers are both unclear on how to balance their game in a fun, fair way and also are unclear on what makes Slay the Spire fun in the first place: it isn't a super challenging, ultra balanced game where all strategies equally struggle to be viable, its a fun popcorn game where you plan out or luck into a powerful deck that wins the game in a surprising or interesting way.
And this is what I mean when I say that its a bad mod. If anyone else but Mega Crit had put this up on Steam they would be blasted for making a poor imitation of Slay the Spire. They'd be rightfully called out for missing the mark on what made the first game fun, they'd be lambasted for just making a bunch of uninspired knock off bosses. They'd be called out for general balancing issues, that in Coop enemies have too many stacks of relic and their health scales poorly to the amount of players. Most importantly people would attack them, viscously, for the new bosses that punish otherwise powerful, fun, iconic builds. It would be endless screaming and gnashing of teeth in the comments about how stupid and unfair and against the spirit of the game these fights are. If you doubt me, go look at poorly rated mods for StS1, go see what those comment sections look like.
