And as someone who doesn't skip a single release from them since at least Sherlock Holmes The Devil's Daughter, they aren't lying.
Frogwares are known for detective games, where you kinda can "fail", by making wrong connections, but not really by dying. They honestly have barely any combat at all, aside for Sinking City 1, which did have combat, but it was the most atrocious shooting I've experienced in a game where you do quite a bit of shooting.
Their games also don't really look fantastic, mostly because of animations being very janky, despite the overall look of these games improving over time thanks to UE.
So what's different here? Well, everything really. The combat while not reaching highs of Resident Evil Requiem, still delivers in intensity and the feel of impact. Visuals also give the game an incredible feel and atmosphere of Arkham. It's not just that the game is pretty looking technically, it's genuinely atmospheric (which isn't a surprise, cause Sinking City 1 also had incredible atmosphere).
Devs went not for detective game this time around, but for a survival horror one, and color me impressed. It's not often you see first foray into a new genre for any dev studio to be such a great and arguably successful attempt. It's not perfect, obviously, but the regular "collect items around the map, while having a limited inventory with looming danger around the corner" approach resident evil games are known for is here and it works. The game seems to be fairly linear, but there's enough to look for off the beaten path to get useful rewards.
There's still a mind palace clue connection "mode" from their other titles, but this one is not really that important for progression, but is important for skill progression, which I think is a great idea.
It's also not connected to the first game, so a safe bet to just play this one, without worrying if you missed something in the story up until this point (although I do recommend first game, just because I think it's a flawed, but good game).

None of that is really here. The city is already dead and empty, with nothing in it but zombies to shoot. Sinking City 2 is not a bad game.
It looks good, plays well, and if you want a Resident Evil-style survival horror game with a Lovecraft setting, you will probably have a good time with it.
My problem is that I don’t think it is a good sequel to The Sinking City.
The first game was a strange mix of detective game, exploration, story and third-person combat. It had problems, obviously, but I really liked its identity.
The Lovecraft atmosphere also worked much better for me. The horror was often more subtle. You explored the city, talked to people, investigated cases and slowly tried to understand what was going on.
Sinking City 2 feels much more like a traditional survival horror game.
Explore an area, collect resources, find keys, solve some puzzles and shoot monsters.
That’s not necessarily bad. Resident Evil does this extremely well.
But I already have Resident Evil.
What I wanted from Sinking City 2 was more of what made the first game unusual.
The investigation system is now reduced to a very small part of the game, and exploration feels much more linear and mechanical. For me, a lot of the personality of the first game is simply gone.
And yes, I know Frogwares announced beforehand that SC2 would go much more in the survival horror direction.

If you mainly want a Resident Evil-like survival horror game in a Lovecraft setting, you probably should give it a try.

It looks good, plays well, and if you want a Resident Evil-style survival horror game with a Lovecraft setting, you will probably have a good time with it.
My problem is that I don’t think it is a good sequel to The Sinking City.
The first game was a strange mix of detective game, exploration, story and third-person combat. It had problems, obviously, but I really liked its identity.
The Lovecraft atmosphere also worked much better for me. The horror was often more subtle. You explored the city, talked to people, investigated cases and slowly tried to understand what was going on.
Sinking City 2 feels much more like a traditional survival horror game.
Explore an area, collect resources, find keys, solve some puzzles and shoot monsters.
That’s not necessarily bad. Resident Evil does this extremely well.
But I already have Resident Evil.
What I wanted from Sinking City 2 was more of what made the first game unusual.
The investigation system is now reduced to a very small part of the game, and exploration feels much more linear and mechanical. For me, a lot of the personality of the first game is simply gone.
And yes, I know Frogwares announced beforehand that SC2 would go much more in the survival horror direction.

It had a genuine sense of a lived-in world that was ravaged by an Eldritch event. You got to explore and investigate and it was more about setting a mood and tone more than it was focused on combat. It had its shortcomings, but it was charming and large enough that I played through it twice despite knowing all the mysteries.
This trades all of that in for a very bland, linear, lukewarm Resident Evil 2 and 4 inspired game like 90% of survival-horror offerings out there. Charles Reed felt like he fit the tone, setting and story. Calvin Rafferty feels like a hollow character by comparison that comes across like an Indiana Jones wannabe more than anything else and it makes the entire tone feel incredibly off.
I feel like if we had more time with both Calvin and Faye, it would feel better because it would build a sense of familiarity with them or something; but as it stands, the game's story is far more...lighthearted and almost sanitized compared to the first Sinking City.

Unfortunately I can't recommend it, mainly for the following reasons:
- Misleading title: If you come here for a sequel to The Sinking City this is not it. It is a different genre and most things that were amazing about the first game are just completely gone here. Should've been a spinoff not a sequel.
- Price: It is to expensive for what it is. This game is about 10h of content for 50€ with nothing that is really "outstanding" compared to other games. There are plenty of games offering way more playtime and better gameplay for way less money. Better wait until it's on sale.
- Day 1 DLC: As explained above the game is really short for its price. Having a day 1 content DLC with new area and weapon is making this even worse. I don't see any reason for this DLC not being part of the base game.
The gameplay itself is entertaining but there are also plenty of flaws:
- Melee is janky; enemies often hit back even when it feels like they are stunned and there aren't even any melee weapons.
- Range combat is focused on hitting weakpoints that slowly spawn and re-spawn on enemies which becomes boring quickly. New weapons oftentimes feel underwhelming; for example on hard there are enemies that require 2 shotgun shots, but could also be killed by 2 pistol shots (or maybe 1 additional melee attack). Also, as in many games, submachine gun mostly feels inefficient and like a waste of ammo.
- Puzzles: There is no investigation similar to the first games. Puzzles are very straightforward (on high puzzle difficulty): Look for notes marked as puzzle relevant and combine them to groups (mostly 3 pieces). Then, with basic text understanding, the solution will be obvious by reading the notes. Nothing to really think about or investigate.
- Talents: You get talent points by combining puzzle hints to their respective groups and sometimes as puzzle or progression reward. Overall talents are mostly situational and low impact. There are not many interesting choices and you are very limited in the amount of active talents. The ones most useful are very boring like craft more ammo or heal more with healing items.
In terms of immersion the game was fine. I enjoyed the atmosphere in terms of audio and visuals. The story was okay, it was interesting but failed to really make me care about the characters. It feels like the lack of choices and player freedom makes you the watcher of someone elses story, similar to watching a movie. In addition the horror aspects felt rather mild, the game didn't really feel scary at any point.
The Sinking City itself isn't even a central part of the story. When the game starts the city is pretty much gone already, with almost no population left and how it got to this point doesn't really matter. So it's more like a Sunken Ruin than a Sinking City.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI know, you know, we all know -- this is basically a Resident Evil game with a Lovecraftian paint job. But here's the thing: that's why I enjoyed it so much.
I never played the first game; I'm not going to hold the sequel up to it and find it lacking. I can understand why those who loved the first game might not enjoy the second, since it apparently differs quite a lot. But for me, the survival horror and Resident Evil vibes are exactly what drew me in. The game has everything I love from survival horror games: exploration, item gathering, light puzzle solving, finding lore and notes, inventory management, creepy vibes. There's so much satisfaction in watching the room colors turn from red to blue when you've cleared all the loot and lore.
It's dark and moody and full of well designed, atmospheric locations. The visuals were seriously fantastic. The locations were also quite big and involved, so if you’re like me and you’re super nosy and want to look in every nook and cranny, it could take awhile. Taking out cut scenes and idling, my playthrough clocked in at 14 hours. It can absolutely be done faster, but I enjoyed taking my time and wandering around and snooping. Given the nature of the game, there’s a lot of backtracking as you discover new items, but I felt like the flow of the levels still made sense and were laid out well. The enemies are interesting (even though, for all intents and purposes, they’re mostly just zombies). They can take a lot of damage, and ammo is limited, so it’s often in your best interests to dodge and evade.
Something I didn’t like: the melee often felt clunky and ineffective. The stomping was fine (even if Calvin takes 3-5 business days to stomp, at least it felt like it was doing a good bit of damage). But hitting or swinging a weapon at enemies didn’t feel like it did much, and sometimes it didn’t seem to register a strike I felt it should have. I also found the Talents system lacking. I like that it exists and I like the concept, but I felt like most of the unlockable bonuses didn’t offer anything that excited me. You also don’t earn that many points per playthrough. There’s an achievement for unlocking all Talents, which will take at least two playthroughs; probably more if you’re spending points unlocking additional slots for Talents as well. Overall I felt like I was only doing the Talents for the sake of the achievement, and not because I was actually invested in them.
Also, the preorder bonus weapons become obsolete very quickly since you cannot equip upgradeable parts to them. This is a small complaint, but I’m kind of disappointed I didn’t get more mileage out of them. I think I was picturing weapons skins instead of entirely separate weapons.

\n\n\t\t\t\tI never played the first game; I'm not going to hold the sequel up to it and find it lacking. I can understand why those who loved the first game might not enjoy the second, since it apparently differs quite a lot. But for me, the survival horror and Resident Evil vibes are exactly what drew me in. The game has everything I love from survival horror games: exploration, item gathering, light puzzle solving, finding lore and notes, inventory management, creepy vibes. There's so much satisfaction in watching the room colors turn from red to blue when you've cleared all the loot and lore.
It's dark and moody and full of well designed, atmospheric locations. The visuals were seriously fantastic. The locations were also quite big and involved, so if you’re like me and you’re super nosy and want to look in every nook and cranny, it could take awhile. Taking out cut scenes and idling, my playthrough clocked in at 14 hours. It can absolutely be done faster, but I enjoyed taking my time and wandering around and snooping. Given the nature of the game, there’s a lot of backtracking as you discover new items, but I felt like the flow of the levels still made sense and were laid out well. Slick Character Control
Frogwares most slick game yet. They have a tendency to feel a little stiff. This will still fall short for Resident Evil or Silent Hill players. But the controls are leaps and bounds ahead of the predecessor and the Sherlock Holmes series. That along with some of the quality of life features made this a very smooth ride.
Dark and Beautiful
The drab colors and dilapidated look def feel the way the city is supposed to. But I wish they'd inject more dark beauty. I'm thinking something like the crime scene tableaus from the Hannibal tv show. There were a handful of spots that played with shadows and colors extremely well, reminiscent of the first Bioshock. And the opening of the third act looked fantastic, but then we walk right out of that beautiful chaos into another puzzle mansion. Wish there was more play time in areas that looked and felt like those first couple minutes.
Lacks Cinematic Flair
This could use a cinematic touch, I think Elden Ring did this well and from what I recall Doom 3 and Dead Space crushed the cinematic feel. When introducing a new area or boss, slow close up pans and cuts getting into the gritty details with some of that color/shadow play I mentioned prior before pulling back and the reveal. It'd just be for like a 10 second scene, but that polish really makes the game feel impactful rather than just running tasks and doing puzzles while dodging baddies.
Over Simplified Detective Mechanics
The only real negative is they dropped the ball on the detective part. The clues are extremely easy to put together even in "brainy" mode. And it's a very simple system. They cranked the dial up on survival horror too much. Just pull back on that a tad so you have room to bring back the interesting detective mechanics your games are known for. You're never going to beat Resident Evil or Silent Hill at their own game. Your strengths are detective mechanics and cosmic horror (I'm a sucker for Lovecraft and this game and the first one do it really well). You gotta stick to your strengths while you balance out your weaknesses. I'm okay with the crappy talent system you made for this game if you just crank the detective theme back up. For real though, don't lose the slick feel of controlling the character. Sherlock Holmes always feels like he's made of wood.
No Intro World Building
This isn't really a negative for me since I played the first one. It felt like we were meant to just jump right into this after playing it, and I kinda liked it, cut out the fat. But most sequels have at least a little bit of narrative and scenes explaining why the world looks and feels the way it does. There's a way to do this that doesn't feel redundant or like a lot of exposition of the first game. Again, look to cinema. Some pans through the flooded city, cut to newspaper headlines on the floor, maybe a news radio interview in the background. The beginning of the game felt like pieces of things stitched together that didn't quite fit and then we're just dropped into this world. I know amnesia and the whole Christopher Nolan way of story telling out of order is en vogue. But there are ways to do this and make it feel smooth rather than like a jagged pill.
Overall a terrific game in a sea of mediocrity. Far from perfect, but probably as close to perfect as a Lovecraft game has gotten.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The game is clearly designed so you shouldn't be fighting everything you see, but is CONSTANTLY FORCING YOU TO FIGHT (Not to mention there are no stealth mechanics, the moment you enter an area that isnt "safe" all the enemies in the area track you like a homing missile, have tested this in multiple different areas, they completely lose interest in you the moment you go outside of their zone) using enemies to bodyblock doorways, every map is chock full of chokepoints and small corridors, hitboxes are bad and inconsistent, the dodging feels incredibly unresponsive, not to mention all the weapon upgrades are absolutely useless. Worst grenade launcher I have ever used in a survival horror game, deep ones are one of the most laughably bad enemy design choices I have ever seen, and explosive barrels are useless. Oh not to mention enemies have invulnerability while spawning, so during sections like the one near the end of the game where they smash through the wall, you can literally blow their skin off with a grenade launcher and they will take no damage.
TLDR: Devs clearly aren't used to making survival horror games, needs a serious balance patch and combat overhaul, cant recommend the game for anything beyond the story. (My playthrough was on Sleep Demon, the hardest difficulty, but these gripes will show up on easier ones such as normal)\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Frogwares makes excellent use of the Lovecraftian setting: abandoned buildings, drowned streets, occult rituals and creatures that look like they escaped from a particularly unpleasant nightmare. The atmosphere isn't just visual. Sound design, darkness and limited resources constantly create tension.
Combat is considerably more important than in the first game. Weapons have weight, ammunition is limited and enemies can be dangerous enough that simply shooting everything isn't always the best solution.
The game introduces tougher creatures such as the Slither, which can manipulate corpses and force you to think about encounters rather than simply emptying your magazine.
The sequel adopts a much tighter, semi-linear structure. Instead of wandering through a huge open world, you explore interconnected horror environments with shortcuts, locked areas, secrets and optional investigations.
This is a very good decision. The original The Sinking City sometimes suffered from an open world that felt too empty for its investigative mechanics. The Sinking City 2 concentrates its design instead of spreading it thin.

Now, having beaten The Sinking City 2 (not 100%; having to do a New Game+ for one achievement and at least TWO New Game+ runs for another strikes me as utterly ridiculous and something I am not willing to do), here goes my review!
First of all, and as so many other reviews mention, The Sinking City 2 strays A LOT from the roots that gave the IP its name; this isn't an investigative game like the first one, but rather a third-person action title similar to survival horror games like Resident Evil. And I won't deny that, while I am ALSO a fan of survival horror... this wasn't what I was expecting from The Sinking City.
The first one captivated me with its settings, its stories, its attention to lore, and how brilliantly woven (if a bit predictable) its side stories were. The Sinking City 2 completely abandons the very premise of its title, dropping us into environments that, while masterfully detailed and very much fitting for a zombie-and-puzzle game, feel disconnected from the Lovecraftian premise of "the city sinking into the waters because something is rising".
In my original review back in the day, I pointed out how the combat and crafting systems felt redundant, because they were just there for the sake of it, and the game would have genuinely benefited from not even having them. Well, in this second instalment, those systems return massively improved, making both combat and on-the-fly crafting VERY smooth and engaging, but that is only because combat takes on a HUGE importance throughout the game; we spend nearly half the time fighting, and the other half roaming environments looking for keys.
I also missed having more NPCs to talk to SO MUCH... there are, literally, four in the entire game, and you don't even have a proper conversation with them; they are simply quest givers that I didn't empathise with in the slightest.
It might sound like I didn't enjoy the game after all that, but... I actually did, and I certainly recommend it to survival horror fans. If you like Resident Evil 4 or Requiem you will definitely enjoy this game, but if you are expecting a horror story with occasional combat encounters and a heavy focus on exploration... you won't find it here.

I’m having a hard time rating this game.
On the one hand, I‘ve been a fan since the first Sherlock Holmes games and I also like the Lovecraft genre.
Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this game - it was exhausting, and the story didn’t grab me either. Calvin was more of an extra than a main character, and Faye often came across as an annoying voice in Calvin’s mind, especially in the finale.
The zooming while shooting bothered me, as it made me lose track of where enemies were and prevented me from noticing other enemies behind me (plus, some of the weapons were really useless).
Another problem was that if you can’t clear an area due to a lack of ammo, all the enemies end up piling up like a horde as you progress. Even if you dodge, you still get grabbed, causing you to lose track of the situation again. The enemies also often stand in doorways, making it nearly impossible to escape.
In the end, I decided to just run through areas whenever possible, rather than facing the enemies or taking a closer look at interesting locations. So I’d run, check the map to see if everything was blue (indicating it was cleared), and keep going on this wild ride - until I completed a story objective, turned around, and new enemies appeared right in front of me. So the horror aspect of the game never really came through for me - it was more the exhausting feeling of “I have to run (again).”
What disappointed me the most was the fact that, even after the demo was released, the developers assured us that the game would still include investigation (albeit in a reduced form, but still present). In reality, however, this wasn’t the case. Since I’m a Sherlock fan and enjoy puzzles, I was so sad to realize that all you had to do was connect pieces of paper you’d collected - and you knew right away how they fit together because they always had the same symbol.
So basically, there was nothing else to do, which meant that as a player, you hardly felt involved. So the puzzles were… just there. Period.
The game didn’t feel coherent to me; but rather more like the offspring of Resident Evil and Alan Wake.
Lovecraft was only faintly hinted at in the final section of the story. What I also couldn’t understand was that the relationship between Calvin and Faye - which hadn’t been explored in any depth - was suddenly turned into a major romantic storyline for the player during a boat ride just before the end of the game. Then there was also a brief moment of mistrust from Calvin toward Faye, but that was quickly thrown overboard as well.
To me, Frogwares’ true craftsmanship lies in their ability to create authentic and relatable characters that you can empathize with and want to learn more about. Like the mayor and all the other characters you met in Sinking City 1. But in this sequel, I didn’t care at all about the characters or the ending.
Frogwares has been and remains a major part of my gaming history and has shaped me… but unfortunately, I can’t give a positive review this time, and I hope the team finds a suitable path forward if they want to continue with survival horror.
For my part, I need the puzzle-solving, investigation, and story - along with authentic characters - and this title just didn’t do it for me.
P.S. I get the impression that the game’s chosen genre divides opinion. People either hate it or love it.

Leider hat mir dieses Spiel nicht gefallen, es war anstrengend, da mich auch die Story nicht gefesselt. Calvin war eher ein Statist als ein Hauptcharakter, Faye war oft auch eher eine nervige Stimme Calvins Kopf, insbesondere im Finale.
Das Zoomen beim Schießen hat mich gestört, da ich so den Überblick verloren habe, wo Feinde sind und auch weitere Feinde hinter mir nicht bemerken konnte (zudem waren einige Waffen echt nicht zu gebrauchen).
Problematisch war auch, dass wenn man eine Gegend durch Mangel an Munition nicht freiräumen kann, sich im weiteren Verlauf alle Gegner wie als Horde ansammeln. Trotz Ausweichen wird man dann dennoch gepackt, wodurch man erneut den Überblick verliert. Auch stehen die Gegner oft in den Türen, sodass man kaum flüchten kann.
Am Ende habe ich mich entschieden eher durchzurennen, falls es möglich war, anstelle mich den Gegnern zu stellen oder mir interessante Orte genauer anzusehen. Also rennen, auf die Karte schauen, ob alles Blau (als erledigt) angezeigt wird und weitergeht die wilde fahrt. Solange bis man einen Storypunkt erfüllt hat, sich umdreht und neue Gegner direkt vor einem erscheinen. So kam der Gruselaspekt im Spiel nie wirklich für mich zu tragen, als eher das ermüdende Gefühl ,,muss gleich rennen".
Was mich am meisten enttäuscht hat, ist die Tatsache, dass auch nach Veröffentlichung der Demo seitens Entwickler versicherten wurde, dass im Spiel weiterhin Ermittlungsarbeit beinhaltet sein würde (reduzierter aber vorhanden). Dies traf aber faktisch nicht zu.
Da ich Sherlock Fan bin und Rätseln mag, war ich so traurig darüber zu bemerken, dass man lediglich aufgesammelte Zettel verknüpfen musste, bei denen man direkt wusste, wie sie zusammengehören, da diejenigen immer dasselbe Symbol aufwiesen.
Im Grunde musste man nichts weiter tun, was dazu führte, dass man sich als Spieler kaum involviert fühlte. Also die Rätsel waren… da. Punkt.
Das Spiel fühlte sich für mich nicht schlüssig an, es eher als das uneheliche Kind von Resident Evil und Alan Wake.
Lovecraft war nur im letzten Storyabschnitt leicht zu erahnen. Was ich auch nicht nachvollziehen konnte, war, dass die Beziehung der beiden Charaktere, welche nicht weiter groß behandelt wurde, aber kurz vor Ende des Games während einer Bootsfahrt dem Spieler plötzlich doch eine große Romantikstory aufgetischt wurde. Dann bestand kurzzeitig auch Misstrauen von Calvin gegenüber Faye, was aber auch schnell wieder über Bord geworfen wurde.
Für mich bedeutet das starke Handwerk von Frogwares eigentlich, dass sie authentische und nachvollziehbare Charaktere verkaufen können, die man nachfühlen kann und über die man gerne mehr erfahren möchte. Wie in Sinking City 1 der Bürgermeister und die ganzen Persönlichkeiten, die man getroffen hatte. Aber in diesem Teil waren mir die Charaktere und das Ende gänzlich egal.
Frogwares war und ist ein großer Bestandteil meiner Gaminggeschichte und hat mich geprägt... leider kann ich aber diesmal keine positive Bewertung abgeben und hoffe das Team findet für sich ein adäquaten Weg, wenn sie mit Survival Horror weitermachen wollen.
Ich für mein Teil brauche das Rätseln/ Ermitteln und Story, authentische Charaktere und wurde durch diesen Titel nicht abgeholt.
PS. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass das Spiel mit dem gewählten Genre die Gemüter spaltet. Entweder die Leute hassen oder lieben es.

Am Ende habe ich mich entschieden eher durchzurennen, falls es möglich war, anstelle mich den Gegnern zu stellen oder mir interessante Orte genauer anzusehen. Also rennen, auf die Karte schauen, ob alles Blau (als erledigt) angezeigt wird und weitergeht die wilde fahrt. Solange bis man einen Storypunkt erfüllt hat, sich umdreht und neue Gegner direkt vor einem erscheinen. So kam der Gruselaspekt im Spiel nie wirklich für mich zu tragen, als eher das ermüdende Gefühl ,,muss gleich rennen".
Was mich am meisten enttäuscht hat, ist die Tatsache, dass auch nach Veröffentlichung der Demo seitens Entwickler versicherten wurde, dass im Spiel weiterhin Ermittlungsarbeit beinhaltet sein würde (reduzierter aber vorhanden). Dies traf aber faktisch nicht zu.
Da ich Sherlock Fan bin und Rätseln mag, war ich so traurig darüber zu bemerken, dass man lediglich aufgesammelte Zettel verknüpfen musste, bei denen man direkt wusste, wie sie zusammengehören, da diejenigen immer dasselbe Symbol aufwiesen.
Im Grunde musste man nichts weiter tun, was dazu führte, dass man sich als Spieler kaum involviert fühlte. Also die Rätsel waren… da. Punkt.
Das Spiel fühlte sich für mich nicht schlüssig an, es eher als das uneheliche Kind von Resident Evil und Alan Wake.
Lovecraft war nur im letzten Storyabschnitt leicht zu erahnen. Was ich auch nicht nachvollziehen konnte, war, dass die Beziehung der beiden Charaktere, welche nicht weiter groß behandelt wurde, aber kurz vor Ende des Games während einer Bootsfahrt dem Spieler plötzlich doch eine große Romantikstory aufgetischt wurde. Dann bestand kurzzeitig auch Misstrauen von Calvin gegenüber Faye, was aber auch schnell wieder über Bord geworfen wurde.
Für mich bedeutet das starke Handwerk von Frogwares eigentlich, dass sie authentische und nachvollziehbare Charaktere verkaufen können, die man nachfühlen kann und über die man gerne mehr erfahren möchte. Wie in Sinking City 1 der Bürgermeister und die ganzen Persönlichkeiten, die man getroffen hatte. Aber in diesem Teil waren mir die Charaktere und das Ende gänzlich egal.
Frogwares war und ist ein großer Bestandteil meiner Gaminggeschichte und hat mich geprägt... leider kann ich aber diesmal keine positive Bewertung abgeben und hoffe das Team findet für sich ein adäquaten Weg, wenn sie mit Survival Horror weitermachen wollen.
Ich für mein Teil brauche das Rätseln/ Ermitteln und Story, authentische Charaktere und wurde durch diesen Titel nicht abgeholt.
PS. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass das Spiel mit dem gewählten Genre die Gemüter spaltet. Entweder die Leute hassen oder lieben es.

Took me about 12 1/2 hours and I searched every nook and cranny (still missed two or three things). Right after I jumped into the extra DLC quest and finished that in about 90 minutes.
The game is really well optimized and looks fantastic. Somehow they managed two seconds loading times when you jump back in and I did not encounter any bugs. I played on ultra settings and hit about 100fps most of the time.
The mood is dark and threatening, not really scary, but it's an exciting thrill. Ammo is a little scarce, so you need to know when to fight and when to run.
Best of all are the stories of Arkham. Every location is beautifully crafted. There are so many details, so much storytelling. Every piece of lore, every quest and every character you meet fits perfectly into HP Lovecrafts dark universe of the Ancient Ones and the grand finale had me on the edge of my seat.

As a huge fan of Lovecrafts work and a big fan of the developers previous game, I must say that this game has taken everything good about the previous "the sinking city", and thrown it in the dumpster to make way for another Resident Evil lookalike, with a halfassed try to give the game a lovecraftian atmosphere.
To start off, just because you've read and know Lovecrafts works, doesnt mean you have to reference every single thing in under the first two hours of gameplay. It makes it feel casual and ordinary which it isn't . Secondly, to simply make a Resident Evil clone, slap some cthulhu mythos on an call it a Lovecraftian Eldrich horror game, is the hight of lazyness. Third, to completely throw all kinds of investigation and detective work out the window is a huge backstabb for every fan of typical Cthulhu inspired games. Most good Lovecraftian games are typically focused on these things because it introduces the mythos in a good way , in which the main charater, and the player, gets to slowly unravel the mythos mysteries and along the way, become more and more scarred by it. Which brings me to the biggest lettdown of all... Where is the charaters sanity affected by all of the things that are happening!!?? No Sanity-meter, no exposure to the mythos in a gradually increasing manor, no significant hallucinations, at least not in the two hours i pained my way through this dissapoinment of a game. It is by far the biggest letdown i've had for a game. I hope I can get a refund for this game. If you love Resident Evil you should absolutly consider buying it. But if you are expecting something else than a generic suvival horror game, like I was, do not buy the sinking city 2.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This sequel is a linear game much more akin to the likes of resident evil and a much heavier focus on combat than its predecessor, so if you're expecting anything like the original then your expectations will surely be disappointed but if you go into it open minded, there is a really good game here, definitely recommended. The detective puzzles Frogwares is known for have completely vanished into thin air, replaced by some sort of zombie shooter.
The Cthulhu mythos is just a skin, which is quickly killed off by repetitive gameplay: enter a room, kill the monsters, collect ammo, and open the next door with a key found in the basement.
The open world is gone, replaced by a network of linear mazes. Interaction with characters (whose numbers you can count on the fingers of one hand) is practically non existent. Forget about meaningful choices...and the puzzles are designed to be solved by a five year old. Instead of the fantastic Cthulhu mythos atmosphere, we get constant jump scares and zombies.
To top it all off, we get our protagonist's annoying girlfriend. I would have abandoned her right where she stood ten minutes after she woke up. Whoever approved this script and dialogue for the final version of the game should be fired.

The Sinking City was great with its detective gameplay and Lovecraftian characters, the only weak part was its combat. I think it would have been a much better choice to drop the combat entirely and go all in on a Lovecraftian open world RPG with a good story, interesting characters, meaningful choices and dialogue options.
Unfortunately, they instead went all in on the combat, - and I'm really sorry to say this, but it's just terrible... I'd much rather replay RE2 or Dead Space another 100 times before subjecting myself to another 5 minutes of this.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The combat was bad, the detective portions were not very thought provoking, but the story was good and the city was pretty cool (though the more you were forced to run back and forth, the less cool it got and just became tedious). Sinking city 2 is very different game, its basically an RE game, but honestly I enjoyed it more. Combat, while not on par with other third person games, was much more enjoyable and the puzzles/detective work fit the new style of game with each level kind of being a puzzle on its own. My primary complaint would definitely be the inventory, the grid based system paired with the smaller levels really doesn't have me making in choices in what to carry and what to leave behind. Most of the time is just padding time cause I have to run back and collect anything I couldn't pick up before. Overall, a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 based on how into the story you get.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
