The game is puddle deep, and there aren't any memorable or creative mechanics. Every crafting system is just a vending machine. There are no minigames for cooking, ale pouring, chopping vegetables, or anything that you might expect from a tavern running game like this. You do not stir soup, gut fish, or butcher meat, and in my opinion this is already enough of a let down to not recommend this game.
Instead of giving depth to the mechanics that support the game's core theme, there is an open world with quests, bosses, and challenges. All of which are let down by an incomplete feeling combat system.

YES, the gameplay is good. It's fun to run the tavern and to have some variety fighting monsters and collecting ingredients. It's really something that stands out from other games.
BUT
1. They've really got to make a choice in the design and vibe they're going for. You've got the cute trading cards, but the ingame equivalent of these characters do not match; the characters in game are unnecessarily sexualized; scarcely dressed women and hulky muscular men, which does NOT suit the vibe at all.
2. The animations are all very rudimentary; blocking looks like attacking, dashing doesn't have an animation, walking looks ridiculous. The base gameplay works, but it has to look better than this before adding even more content; flesh out what you've got first!
3. Then there is the storyline; the voice acting is blatantly bad, at least one of the characters I even suspect to be some kind of AI or Google Voice. The dialogue script itself is horrible. The jokes are like they're written by a couple of teenagers. Again, this really ruins the vibe. References to sex, pubic hair, and furries. It doesn't fit the cute vibe at all.
TL;DR - On the one hand you've got a very cute game with a fun gameplay loop, on the other hand you've got a horny teenager art style and dialogue. If you can ignore the entire storyline and unfitting character design choices, then the game is pretty enjoyable already in early access! Ale & Tale is a cute little game about running a tavern in the middle of nowhere of a fantasy world. Work your way up the tavern levels, unlocks, new recipes and complete quests for the various NPCs.
Overall I'd give it an 8/10 taking into account playtime, pricing, availability to sales & gameplay. Its something you can pick up on the cheap, sink a couple evenings or a long weekend into and complete.
Its came under one of my 100% achievement games, but I "completed" it (max tavern level, all quests complete) in around 20 hours.
Super cozy game, go at your own pace, enjoy the funny dialogue and all of the voiced NPCs, make your tavern pretty and enjoy!

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game has been really fun to play, especially with friends. Essentially, you start the game having bought a tavern and you have 500 gold to start the business. Each storyline quest acts as a mini tutorial, but not every function in the game is explained. Anything not explained isn't too hard to figure out if you have played RPG and farming games before.
Why I would recommend it: if you like cooking games and creating a well-built restaurant machine. I personally loved the cooking aspect of the game. There are tons of recipes to learn, from stewed and boiled on a stove, grilled, baked goods, ground up foods (like tartar or apple sauce), and drinks. Making drinks from scratch was the most tedious, so I just buy them when I have enough money to and it is still quite the bit of a net positive. You can hire two types of helper owls (helpful alone or when playing with friends), one takes orders and serves prepared food on serving tables and the other cleans up. The best way I found to play was to serve a variety of food and drinks. It makes it so the exp doesn't drop as fast for the item being served. If you do want a variety, it is important to stock up on supplies and complete quests that can give you useful banners and access to more foods (like from raising animals and farming).
Some extra advice/observations if you are wanting to buy it:
DON'T FISH! - You'll have to use a fishing pole for the mermaid quest, but once that is over, sell that rod back to the shop keeper and use fish traps and the crab traps. They get worn out over time, but they are the best.
ALWAYS FARM WITH FERTILIZER - it give you an extra plant for the harvest. Farming is really tedious because you have to hoe the ground and you start with a hoe that doesn't do as great of a job. Get the hoe pro ASAP which works a lot faster. One thing I did to make it a little more bearable is to harvest then hoe the ground of that plot, and then put down fertilizer even if I wasn't growing anything right away. It was nice knowing I can grow whatever I wanted whenever I wanted to.
BE AWARE OF YOUR EQUIPPED BANNERS - These give you different advantages in the game. You get one per quest completed. I honestly wouldn't recommended worrying about these quests if you are focused on building wealth: the alchemist quest, hermit quest, the fairy quest and the final boss quest. To some people, the alchemist and hermit quest might be worth doing for their banners, but I don't use them hardly at all.
BEST QUEST BANNERS ARE: Fluffy's banner, the Deer's banner, the Cows banner, and the Wagon banner. If you play the game, you'll see why.

ONE LAST NOTE ON WEAPONS: you can upgrade a weapon using something called reforge stones. The have a chance to make the weapon better or worse, and a chance to up its rarity. Rarity doesn't make something more powerful in and of itself. I personally never used a reforge stone until after defeating the "final boss". It was honestly super fun fighting the final boss with a ton of resurrection stones and muskets that were barely doing any damage. What made it fun was that I was playing with my best friend.

As others have said, could definitely use some extra polish but gameplay in and of itself is repetitive enough to not require too much brain power if you want something that is easy to get into the flow of after a stressful day (or while also listening to audiobooks), but still requires enough attention to keep things interesting and engaging. In terms of small qualms, the characters that enter the tavern lack any semblance of diversity or even really, well, character. I would love to be able to interact with them to flesh out the world better, as well as get at least a few non-White characters.
The biggest thing that ruins it for me is the, as someone else put so well, "horny teenager art style and dialogue," which I could not agree with more. Nearly every woman (if not EVERY woman) in this game is wearing very little, which is fine on its own because I love crop tops and shorts myself but it reaches a point where you wonder what's going on in the minds of the developers, especially when paired with constant references to porn and sex throughout the game. None of it is tasteful, just crude and at times disturbing.

This is Ale & Tale Tavern, and its pretty ok. This game is a busy work simulator disguised as a restaurant sim. Most of the features of this game feel done just enough to be passed on as game play, however after a few hours of solo play it really does get quite tedious. Playing this in coop in short hour long bursts is the best way to enjoy this game. If you have friends that play Viscera Cleanup Detail, Power Wash Simulator, Traveler's Rest, Stardew Valley, etc. etc. you will probably have a good time together in this game.

-Minimal livestock and farming.
-No Beef recipes, no milk recipes.
-No ability to construct extra rooms or anything aside from what is available, and you cannot build outside the shop.
-Pretty sure the voice acting is AI generated. Whether or not it is, the acting has a feel like it was recorded without the actors talking to each other. Just speaking at a script. I have no proof it was ai, but it really just is uncanny like ai.
I know I listed more cons than pros here, but I also edit these reviews when features are updated/added. I really recommend this game as a good coop experience for couples, and I really recommend this game overall. I'm very excited to see this develop into a direct competitor to Traveler's Rest and Stardew Valley, but in 3D.

I've always wanted a role-playing tavern sim that isn't overhead management, and I enjoy the aspect of "open-world" no matter how limited that may be.
