Excellent combat, memorable characters, beautiful cinematic direction and surprisingly good character development make this one of my favorite action games in a while. It does suffer from repeated bosses and fairly basic side content, but the core experience is strong enough that I rarely stopped having fun.
This was my first Onimusha game, so I went into Way of the Sword without any nostalgia for the older titles or expectations about what an Onimusha game should be. I can only judge it for what it is, and what I got was an incredibly enjoyable action game with one of the most satisfying combat systems I have played recently.
Combat is easily the star of the show.
Capcom gives you plenty of weapons and different ways to approach fights, and learning how to properly use everything is genuinely satisfying. Parries, deflections, counters and Issen attacks give fights a great rhythm where aggression and precision are equally important. At first you can get away with simply reacting to enemies, but the better you become, the more stylish and controlled the combat starts to feel.
There is something incredibly satisfying about standing your ground against a powerful Genma, reading its attack, deflecting at exactly the right moment and immediately turning defense into offense. The game rewards learning enemy patterns without feeling like it wants to punish you simply for making a mistake.
Weapon variety helps a lot as well. Different weapons are not there just to slightly change damage numbers. They give you different tools and encourage you to experiment with how you approach encounters. Even after many hours I was still enjoying fights simply because controlling Musashi feels so good.
And then there are the cutscenes.
Honestly, almost every important cutscene in this game is CINEMA.
The direction, animation, camera work and character performances are excellent. There were multiple moments where I simply put the controller down and watched. Capcom clearly wanted Way of the Sword to feel like a supernatural samurai movie, and in my opinion they absolutely succeeded.
Using Toshiro Mifune's likeness for Musashi could easily have felt like a gimmick, but it works extremely well. His facial expressions, posture and attitude give Musashi a huge amount of personality.
The supporting cast deserves praise too. The characters are colorful, expressive and often surprisingly funny. The game knows when to take itself seriously and when to let its characters breathe. That mixture of horror, violence, comedy and exaggerated personalities gives Onimusha a charm that I did not expect going in.
Musashi himself was probably my favorite part of the story.
At first the plot seems fairly simple, and honestly, on paper it is. Demons are invading Kyoto, Musashi receives power he never asked for, and now he has to deal with it. But underneath that simple premise there is a story about what strength actually means.
Musashi begins the game arrogant, selfish and obsessed with proving his ability as a swordsman. He does not see himself as some noble hero chosen to save everyone. He wants to rely on his own skill, and even the power of the Oni Gauntlet feels almost insulting to him because it gives him strength that he did not earn through the sword.
Watching that attitude gradually change was one of the things I enjoyed most about the story. He does not suddenly become a completely different person. He is still Musashi, still confident, crude and stubborn, but he slowly starts accepting responsibility and caring about people beyond his own path as a swordsman.
That simple character arc gives the story more depth than I initially expected.
The setting also deserves a mention. The combination of historical Japan, traditional folklore, grotesque Genma and almost theatrical samurai storytelling works beautifully. Kyoto is atmospheric, and some environments are absolutely gorgeous. The creature designs are especially good, with many Genma looking like something pulled directly from a disturbing old Japanese painting.
Performance on PC was also excellent in my experience. The game looks great, runs extremely smoothly and offers plenty of graphics settings. Considering how good some of the environments, effects and cinematic sequences look, the optimization deserves praise.
Unfortunately, Way of the Sword does have one noticeable problem: repetition.
Bosses are reused too often.
The strange thing is that I still enjoyed fighting them. Most bosses look fantastic, have fun movesets and work extremely well with the combat system. Fighting a good boss again can even be satisfying because it gives you an opportunity to see how much better you have become.
But there is a limit.
When the same bosses or minibosses start appearing repeatedly, some encounters lose the impact they had the first time. A creature that initially felt intimidating eventually becomes just another familiar obstacle.
The same issue affects some of the side content. Many side quests are fairly simple and exist mostly to give you upgrade materials, resources or another opportunity to fight. They are useful for strengthening Musashi, but if you are looking for elaborate side stories with deep characters and difficult choices, you probably will not find much of that here.
Lady Murasaki's requests are a notable exception. Her Curious Cases add more personality and context to the world, and I found them much more interesting from a storytelling perspective than most of the standard optional activities.
Some of the rifts and other recurring objectives also start feeling repetitive later in the game. The combat is good enough to carry these sections, but there were moments where I would rather have continued the main story instead of clearing another familiar encounter.
This creates occasional pacing problems, especially if you are someone like me who likes completing optional content instead of rushing through the main path.
Still, those problems never ruined the game for me.
The reason is simple: the foundations are just too good. Combat remains satisfying, Musashi is a great protagonist, the cast has personality, the bosses are visually fantastic even when reused, and the cinematic presentation is some of Capcom's best work.
As someone who had never played an Onimusha game before, Way of the Sword made me understand why people were excited to see this series return.
It has flaws, and I would love to see a sequel with more varied side quests, fewer recycled encounters and more unique bosses throughout the entire campaign.
But as my first step into Onimusha?

The enemy mob AI mostly attacks you one at a time instead of ganging up on you, though there are also mods that make the AI more aggressive for those who want to make the game harder. The boss fights are incredibly fun and challenging, and for better or worse, some of the mini-bosses are recycled.
And finally, I'll say this again: the English localization is really bad. Really, really bad. And the English voice acting? You'll either hate it or feign ignorance. This game was made by Japanese developers, is about Japanese samurai, and is set in Japan. The English localization fails to convey the emotional nuances of the original voice acting, and some lines are straight-up wrong or localized at a fanfiction level. If you really care about the lore and characters, please, just play it with the Japanese voice acting (or, better yet, learn Japanese).\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhat a game to start September with, every Capcom release this year has managed to top the last for me in terms of expectations. Pragmata surpassed RE9, and Onimusha has now topped them both.
It has exactly what a game should have: its own identity. It feels like a mix between Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro, with some elements from Nioh, yet it’s unmistakably Onimusha.
Going 3/3 with triple A games in the same year, while still putting out remasters and spin offs is no easy feat. I’m honestly blown by this company.
Now that Capcom can see how much demand there is for their older franchises, I hope this paves the way for Dino Crisis and Haunting Ground to return, and why not devil may cry too while we’re at it?

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tGreat atmosphere and a really strong start, but around 4 hours in, the regular enemies still feel way too easy. They often just stand there waiting their turn. I’m not saying this because I expected a Soulslike experience, but the fights start feeling repetitive after a while. Despite the great variety of skills, there’s rarely any need to use most of them.
I've heard the difficulty picks up later, so I'll update this if it does. Hopefully future updates can also sharpen up the basic encounters.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis is one of the Capcom IP, I’ve been waiting to see revived, alongside the Dino Crisis series & Breath of Fire series. After nearly two decades of dormancy, the Onimusha series makes a comeback with "Way of the Sword." Capcom has preserved the classic hack-and-slash DNA, focusing on combo execution, parrying, and the Issen mechanic which I personally find incredibly addictive.
The RE Engine's excellent optimization for linear games certainly deserves praise particularly its smooth performance on handhelds and UMPCs at High to Ultra settings as Capcom has demonstrated this year with releases such as RE9, MHS3, Pragmata, and now Onimusha WotS.
Miyamoto Musashi’s character design is charismatic and lifelike, from his facial expressions to his overall demeanor. The sword combat system is highly responsive. Features like "Dynamic Dismemberment" (where sword strikes sever enemies based on the angle of the swing) and "Break Issen" give every bloody duel a real sense of weight.
Animations for deflecting, parrying, and dodging feel authentic like a "real-life deflect & parry " rather than relying solely on satisfying sound effects. The designs for the Genma "Oni" are impressively varied, and the boss battles are challenging, furthermore, the dark fantasy atmosphere of Edo-period Kyoto is brilliantly realized.
However, the semi-open world exploration feels somewhat stiff certain areas of Kyoto resemble elongated linear corridors, and the story pacing drags a bit in the middle due to an abundance of cutscenes. The enemies and NPCs are too easy to defeat, even on the "Action" difficulty setting they are often passive rather than aggressive. I would have liked to see more challenging difficulty options available right from the start of the game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

From the combat system to the options menu, you can really see that the developers have poured their heart and soul into making it. I'm even willing to postpone other games that are almost 100% complete just to play this one first.
This game is well worth playing.

If you've played the original four Onimusha games (Warlords, Samurai Destiny, Demon Siege, and Dawn of Dreams), you will find that this game has almost completely discarded all of the backstory built up by those games. it doesn't directly refute them, but it completely omits any reference to them. the only nods to the original four games are one enemy, the gauntlet and souls mechanic, and some non-canon dlc weapon skins. that's it. I am really disappointed in this decision, as it makes me feel alienated as an original fan of the series when I was growing up. The original, almost alien, design of the genma was iconic, and the Shakespearean names of the genma leaders was so memorable that I can clearly remember each one by heart. now we have another Japanese historical fiction with extremely similar visual and design styles to it's contemporaries (Nioh 1-3 is the biggest example). it feels like the best parts of what made Onimusha interesting and unique have been stripped away. Old Onimusha was dark fantasy with a layer of historical fiction to make it more grounded and impactful. now it's so focused on being based in reality that I can't suspend my disbelief of all the insane events happening right in front of limp, lukewarm intelligence Japanese villagers. \t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Really enjoyed the demo & that pushed me over the edge to pick up and ultimately platinum this game! Kudos to the devs for putting out a solid pre-release experience. The story actually surprised me with how good it is… and the combat is my favorite part about the game. The system they created feels insanely good, especially with boss fights. My first playthrough was done on Action difficulty (normal) and obviously my second was on Carnage (hard) which you unlock for beating the game once. The first playthrough went super smooth…and Carnage wasn’t bad until the second half of the game. Expect to perfect boss movesets and attacks, especially late game. There’s a crazy final boss fight that you’ll never forget. NG+ doesn’t carry over your equipment upgrades so be ready to do side quests again for a good source of upgrade mats…and just enjoy the world around you! The reward for Carnage completion definitely helps out with boss rush mode which was the final achievement I unlocked. Take the role of Musashi as he searches far, wide, and within himself to find his reason to fight.

I was very excited for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Capcom has been on an incredible run for almost a decade now. Especially after this year's amazing Pragmata and the pretty good Resident Evil Requiem, my excitement was at an all-time high.
That excitement took a hit when I played the demo. The game felt mindlessly easy, and I really didn't like the washed-out, desaturated visuals. Still, I couldn't stop myself from getting the full game.
So, how was it? Let's find out.
The first 30-40% of the game is honestly an extremely boring button-mashing experience. I was very negative about the game until I reached that point. Thankfully, things started getting much better afterwards. The combat opens up, and the boss fights become easily the best part of the game. They are fun, challenging and very satisfying to learn. The problem is that everything between those boss fights feels like a complete waste of time.
The gameplay outside of bosses is braindead, and so is the challenge. Normal enemies barely attack you, then suddenly the bosses go grazy. Especially after the second Benkei fight, the difficulty spikes become very noticeable. It feels like the game can't decide how difficult it actually wants to be.
On top of that, every boss has to be fought 3-7 times (closer to 7 usually) 70 dollars you said? Yeah, the game can't last only 10 hours, right? The enemy variety isn't much different either. I fought the same two bosses six or seven times each which is just crazy and lazy.
The charms were also disappointing. They never felt interesting enough to build around. If you can't do it like Hollow Knight, don't do it.
The hub/open world design is interesting at first, but completely unnecessary. The biggest problem is what they decided to do with it. The side quests are terrible, and the open world is full of boring fetch quests and Ubisoft-style checklist design.
From Dead Rising turning a shopping mall into an incredible sandbox where you could interact with almost everything, to Onimusha: Way of the Sword using Ubisoft open world design... unbelievable, Capcom. There is almost no real exploration. You simply move from one checklist activity to another.

The worst part is that it feels like everything outside the boss fights exists only to waste the player's time and artificially extend the game's length to justify the 70 dollar price tag. That even includes the main quests. Most of the main quests are boring too, except when you finally get to fight a boss, and that's assuming it isn't another repeated boss.
Come on, Capcom. I didn't become a fan of you because of this. I became a fan because you made gameplay-first 10-15 hour games that respected the player's time.
Another thing that surprised me was how much talking there is.
Too many cutscenes. Too much yapping. Capcom is supposed to be a gameplay-first studio. If you're going to tell a story, it has to be meaningful, well paced and worth the player's time, just like you guys did with Pragmata.
Even though I have many complaints about the game, I genuinely loved most of the boss fights. Almost every boss took me between one and five tries, which felt fair and rewarding.
Then came the final boss. Just when I thought I had mastered the game's mechanics, the game suddenly throws a completely different kind of fight at you. It has nothing to do with why the previous bosses were fun.
Right before it, you even go through a boss rush. Those bosses are all enjoyable. Then suddenly the final fight has three phases, long cutscenes during the battle, and if you die in the last phase, you have to start all over again from phase one.
What is this, Capcom? Is this Malenia? The final boss also feels heavily inspired by Radahn, but that style simply doesn't fit this game. Can you at least let me heal? The healing is already unresponsive and reminds me of Dark Souls 2, where you have to completely stop doing anything just to use a healing item. I had immense fun with almost every boss before this one, but the final boss left a bitter taste in my mouth.

The visuals are washed out and desaturated. I honestly have no idea why nobody is talking about this. Do people actually like colorless games with a white filter over everything? Performance is good for the most part, although I still had two crashes on my high-end PC.
The camera is another major issue. At least 30% of my deaths happened because of camera problems in corners, which became very frustrating during boss fights.
The music is also pretty average. I finished the game and honestly can't remember a single track.
This is probably my biggest mixed bag with Capcom in recent years. When the game lets you fight bosses and enjoy its combat system, it's genuinely excellent. But almost everything around those boss fights feels like filler designed to stretch the game's length rather than make the adventure better.
I still had a very fun time because the combat system and most of the boss fights are excellent. But I really hope Capcom goes back to making tighter, gameplay-first experiences instead of trying to justify a 70 dollar price tag with repetitive content and unnecessary padding.
Dear Capcom, I am going to forgive you this time because you made a good combat system, great boss fights and a very fun game overall. But if you do this again, I won't turn a blind eye.

The charms were also disappointing. They never felt interesting enough to build around. If you can't do it like Hollow Knight, don't do it.
Level Design and World Design
The hub/open world design is interesting at first, but completely unnecessary. The biggest problem is what they decided to do with it. The side quests are terrible, and the open world is full of boring fetch quests and Ubisoft-style checklist design.
From Dead Rising turning a shopping mall into an incredible sandbox where you could interact with almost everything, to Onimusha: Way of the Sword using Ubisoft open world design... unbelievable, Capcom. There is almost no real exploration. You simply move from one checklist activity to another.

The worst part is that it feels like everything outside the boss fights exists only to waste the player's time and artificially extend the game's length to justify the 70 dollar price tag. That even includes the main quests. Most of the main quests are boring too, except when you finally get to fight a boss, and that's assuming it isn't another repeated boss.
Come on, Capcom. I didn't become a fan of you because of this. I became a fan because you made gameplay-first 10-15 hour games that respected the player's time.
Story and Pacing
Another thing that surprised me was how much talking there is.
Too many cutscenes. Too much yapping. Capcom is supposed to be a gameplay-first studio. If you're going to tell a story, it has to be meaningful, well paced and worth the player's time, just like you guys did with Pragmata.
Boss Fights
Even though I have many complaints about the game, I genuinely loved most of the boss fights. Almost every boss took me between one and five tries, which felt fair and rewarding.
Then came the final boss. Just when I thought I had mastered the game's mechanics, the game suddenly throws a completely different kind of fight at you. It has nothing to do with why the previous bosses were fun.
Right before it, you even go through a boss rush. Those bosses are all enjoyable. Then suddenly the final fight has three phases, long cutscenes during the battle, and if you die in the last phase, you have to start all over again from phase one.
What is this, Capcom? Is this Malenia? The final boss also feels heavily inspired by Radahn, but that style simply doesn't fit this game. Can you at least let me heal? The healing is already unresponsive and reminds me of Dark Souls 2, where you have to completely stop doing anything just to use a healing item. I had immense fun with almost every boss before this one, but the final boss left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Presentation and Technical Issues
The visuals are washed out and desaturated. I honestly have no idea why nobody is talking about this. Do people actually like colorless games with a white filter over everything? Performance is good for the most part, although I still had two crashes on my high-end PC.
The camera is another major issue. At least 30% of my deaths happened because of camera problems in corners, which became very frustrating during boss fights.
The music is also pretty average. I finished the game and honestly can't remember a single track.
Final Thoughts
This is probably my biggest mixed bag with Capcom in recent years. When the game lets you fight bosses and enjoy its combat system, it's genuinely excellent. But almost everything around those boss fights feels like filler designed to stretch the game's length rather than make the adventure better.
I still had a very fun time because the combat system and most of the boss fights are excellent. But I really hope Capcom goes back to making tighter, gameplay-first experiences instead of trying to justify a 70 dollar price tag with repetitive content and unnecessary padding.
Dear Capcom, I am going to forgive you this time because you made a good combat system, great boss fights and a very fun game overall. But if you do this again, I won't turn a blind eye.

Wasn't sure about it when the game started out and especially not in the english dub but after switching to Japanese VO and as the story progressed, he got so much charisma, style and swagger with a lot of emotion and brilliant character development. It didn't feel like any other character from other games and the mix of humour and moments of extreme AURA just pulled me in.
COMBAT: This is the star of the game. Parries, deflects, perfect dodges, Issen (insta kill by attacking at the same time the enemy hits with an extremely tight window) and special Oni armaments are all part of it. Once these click, the fights get SPECTACULAR! Lot of people saying the game is not as difficult, that might be true early on but the difficulty ramps ups well but its also not like a souls game, more along the lines of wukong with some of the tougher bosses taking 2-3 attempts to clear. The Boss designs and movements are extremely cool! Their movesets and animations actually make the fights fun and retry worthy (which you can do thanks to the practice arena they have given in game to replay boss fights as many times as you want).
Also the character animations, facial expressions and voice acting is probably some of the best I've seen in a game. The level of detail is insane and brings out SO MUCH emotion so well!
The World is a really good linear but explorable balance, side quests and stories are quite intriguing and not AS repetetive as i thought. They are bosed on rumours, curses and demon stories/lore of japan which were very cool to follow along with. The end of the game leaves the door open for more, probably an expansion or sequel potentially.
What I didn't like was some of the collectibles needed me to revisit older boss arenas once the fights were done and I think there could have been a few additional weapon types.

If you think Capcom has been having a phenomenal 2026, you're probably not alone. As for me, though, I've found Capcom's recent output a little stale over the last few years. Whatever went wrong with Pragmata and Requiem (yes, you heard that right) ultimately ties back to a running gag that's been around for a while: Capcom's tendency to fumble the closing act (compared to how stellar the rest of their games are). And, to be fair, that's not exactly an unfair criticism all things considered, especially in the context of RE games. Those games often open with incredible tension and atmosphere, only to gradually devolve into a familiar checklist of tropes that leave the final act feeling bloated and exhausting. That said, it also reached a point where I felt many of Capcom's internally developed games were beginning to bleed into one another.
Onimusha: WotS, much like DMC5, delivers a strong opening before settling into a more restrained rhythm. Then, just when you think you've seen everything the game has to offer, it completely goes wacko, leaving you wondering, "How the ♥♥♥♥ did we end up here?"
Although its level design isn't quite as intricate as the classic Onimusha games, WotS features a central hub in corrupted Eastern Kyoto alongside several mission-based regions that become more explorable over time. Kyoto allows you to farm endlessly respawning Genma, pick up side quests, and explore a reasonably sized open area. It's by no means massive, but compared to the older games, WotS is a considerably longer experience. Most side quests aren't particularly deep, but the Mysteries of Kyoto are an exception. They're slightly richer in presentation and often serve as loosely fictionalized takes on various myths surrounding Buddhist deities such as Yashijin and Dakiniten, as well as folklore like the Three Worms and the Night Parade.
There's quite a bit of micromanagement involved. The older Onimusha titles certainly had their own distinctive difficulty. I still remember struggling against Nobunaga when I first played the original, but that challenge usually came from limited resources, fixed camera angles, or mechanics like Onimusha 2's notoriously strict gift system. WotS, by comparison, constantly tests your reflexes and your ability to make split-second decisions on the fly. These moments don't happen too often outside of boss encounters, but even so, I believe Onimusha earns its place as one of the more demanding games in Capcom's modern catalog, even if it isn't quite on the level of DMC5. One thing worth mentioning is that the bosses escalate dynamically, and on Carnage difficulty they punish you severely. Taking too many hits early on causes bosses to become more aggressive ahead of schedule, removing the breathing room you would desperately need. This ties directly into the gauntlet economy, as bosses can siphon your souls and barricade you out of using your armaments/true form. Speaking of ''true'' form, Musashi's oni transformation is fascinating in its design but it's given somewhat late.
With so much action happening at any given moment, keeping an eye on your souls can be unforgiving. On top of that, when you die you respawn directly inside the boss encounter rather than at the checkpoint beforehand, so you often need a brief opening to reapply consumables or swap equipment if necessary. From what I observed —at least on Action difficulty— most bosses give you that opportunity, but it can still feel overwhelming.
While some bosses are reused, nearly all of them —excluding the optional overworld bosses designed primarily for farming upgrade materials— return with significantly revised attack patterns. Before the final boss, the game has you fight nearly every major boss again in the last area. By that point, you genuinely feel how much stronger you've become, giving you a satisfying confidence boost before the game knocks you back down. And then comes a certain bastard... I absolutely loved the twist there. As far as I can remember, this is the first time in the series that two Onimusha engage in a proper duel.
Yoshitsune is up there as one of the coolest HnS bosses. His first phase feels like a Cavaliere Angelo-style duel, where it's just two men slugging it out. Then things get... excessive, but it still looks totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool. Another highlight is Dokyo, whose creative design more than makes up for its gimmicky nature. Ifuu & Burai are a fantastic spectacle as well.
The Genma designs are excellent across the board. Yoshitsune is both intimidating and charismatic and, in my opinion, an even more compelling antagonist than Nobunaga. The supporting cast is colorful and memorable, while Musashi himself is a wonderfully entertaining protagonist. To my taste, a better Ichiban preserving some of the familiar traits: street-smart, self-assured, cocky and loud, can be goofy and can be serious, whatever the moment calls for. Teases people, is playful and runs headfirst into impossible odds, having a sort of hidden compassion beneath all that bravado.
Speaking purely for myself, I found him more engaging than either Jubei or Samanosuke. A charismatic and skilled swordsman who follows your typical Campbellian Hero's Journey. Not every narrative thread lands, but they are still enjoyable in their cinematic delivery, offering a healthy mix of comedy, drama, weirdness, and Kabuki dance.
The facial animations are excellent, and both the cutscenes and gameplay are packed with incredibly expressive animation work. There are an impressive number of contextual animations throughout the game, as well as post-encounter dialogues where your "gauntlet lady" congratulates you for emerging from combat unscathed, or Musashi takes pride in himself for relying solely on his bow. While repeatedly triggering some of those animations could have become tedious, they're animated with such fluidity that I honestly can't complain. They're simply that good. Perhaps not as much while farming souls but that's ok.
It's true that WotS doesn't feel exactly like the classic Onimusha games. It borrows plenty from them, but its level design focuses less on collecting keys and puzzle items and more on dropping you into larger combat spaces filled with crafting materials and consumables. There are puzzle sections, but they're generally unremarkable. The pacing, however, is far more relentless than in the older Onimusha games. Then again, this game lives and dies by its combat, so if you enjoy engaging with its mechanics, you're almost guaranteed to have a decent time.
With DMC absent for so long (needless to say, DMC6 is long overdue), this is exactly the kind of game the genre needed. Folks who wanted an RE-like Onimusha, I hear you, but that's the last thing Capcom needs right now. In that regard, Onimusha certainly succeeds as a reboot.

It borrows plenty from them, but its level design focuses less on collecting keys and puzzle items and more on dropping you into larger combat spaces filled with crafting materials and consumables. There are puzzle sections, but they're generally unremarkable. The pacing, however, is far more relentless than in the older Onimusha games. Then again, this game lives and dies by its combat, so if you enjoy engaging with its mechanics, you're almost guaranteed to have a decent time.
With DMC absent for so long (needless to say, DMC6 is long overdue), this is exactly the kind of game the genre needed. Folks who wanted an RE-like Onimusha, I hear you, but that's the last thing Capcom needs right now. In that regard, Onimusha certainly succeeds as a reboot.
As Takamura goes: "To live is to suffer, and I loved every damn minute of it."

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tcapcom saved its best game for the last. the combat system and the bosses are perfect. the story is both funny and interesting, but it also has a serious side. the parry parts are so much fun. when i parry at the right time, the sound of the swords hitting each other feels so satisfying.
the npcs are too easy, but the bosses are very hard. for people who have a hard time, they also added an easy mode that shows you on the screen when you should parry.

The combat was incredibly satisfying, the boss fights were easily some of the biggest highlights, and the presentation was top-notch. The final boss especially was pure cinema. Capcom absolutely delivered with this one....

The animations, along with the balance between parrying, attacking, and defending, feel great. If you get the timing down, fighting becomes extremely rewarding.
The game generally is easy, but if you aren't careful, you can still die quickly. I didn't have much trouble with most of the game, except for the final boss, which felt surprisingly difficult for me. After finishing the game, higher difficulty mode unlock, but it still aren't terribly punishing. Once you master the parry timing, everything becomes a breeze—though that timing is the real trick.
When I first started playing, I found the main character a bit goofy. However, as the story unfolded, he really grew on me. The overall character dynamics are well-handled.
Unfortunately, there are only 2 or 3 meaningful side quests; the rest are basic fetch-and-kill missions (go there, kill this guy).
While the main boss fights are good, you end up encountering the same boss types over and over again. Even if you struggle with parrying at first, seeing the same bosses so many times makes them easy to read. They reuse the same attack patterns, which takes away the challenge and excitement of fighting them.
There is a mechanic where you can choose which limb or part to cut off a boss, but except for one specific boss fight, it doesn't really affect anything. It would have been much cooler if severing an arm actually changed how the boss attacks.
NG+ is disappointing. You have to redo all the side quests (which aren't fun to begin with). While your skills carry over, your gear/stat upgrades reset, which is pretty frustrating.
