also, knowing Bark Bark, the game will probably contain further content updates in the near future. I remember the first game consistently had added content for about 3 years post-release, so I look forward to hopping on steam to see a 'house 2 update pending'

The gameplay is great, the new artstyle is very visually appealing, and the story builds from the original in a way that makes you want to know more about the world and its characters. The only flaw with this game is that the combat isn't the greatest, but the game isn't mainly about combat so its not that big of a flaw. Yes, there were bugs I will admit, however due to the selfless efforts of the small developer team at Bark Bark Games these mere hiccups were addressed in mere hours of being discovered after I saw them being addressed in the forums. I want to acknowledge how this game took 6 years to make and it's better than most games that take longer than that period. I would like to give a whole hearted thank you to this amazing team for providing me with this astronomical experience. The main ending being the most important, fleshing out the lore of this world far more than in the previous. I had a great time playing, (except for the desert section, that was just tedious). Going in blind and using trial & error to advance is how this game is meant to be played and discovering new possibilities and endings through this experimentation is so rewarding that I eventually went back and played the first one again.
I for one love this fresh new artstyle for the series. On one hand I will miss the charming and simple pixel art that was incredibly effective at displaying the gruesome activity of the first. On the other hand, this Story Book Style art is beautiful, expressive and far more fitting for this series than even the beloved pixel art of the past. This display feels more like what the devs had intended for the series being closer to how the promotional and cover arts of the first game looked.
The many deaths you will experience strike a balance between absolutely horrific and cartoonish.
Multiple deaths will have to cut to bloody ribbons, while others will have you get your soul drained by some shambling husk leaving your deflated grotesque corpse in a pile before burping. The choice level of detail and comedic aspects to these deaths prevent the game from being too edgy and a far more charismatic presence.
Poor Tabby is put through the wringer again, this time with half as many arms and what feels like less
time to get things done per cycle. The idea that this place is slowly corrupting her if she does not escape is so engaging and having played the first, I want nothing more than for her and Melody to escape. As of right now, there is no Melody gameplay, but I am hoping that is rectified in some DLC. Though the true ending leaves me wondering if that is even possible as Tabby left her behind, but perhaps this is something Melody must do by herself to reunite with her sister again. My only slight complaint with the story is the paranormal element is less strong in the true ending of the game, but I am still very interested in where they will take this and will 100% be ready on launch day for House 3.
This game introduces real boss fights to the series, with large health bars and far more forgiving hitboxes for enemy attacks.No longer are you one shot from across state lines like in the previous, this time you are one shot from a much more fair distance. The devs were also benevolent enough to grace us with a checkpoint for one of the boss fights, which I really appreciate.
Getting the hang of things like managing stamina and your time are key to getting anywhere in this game but for the sake of your enjoyment, only consult a guide when you really hit a wall and can get any further without one, you will have a much better experience for it.

Playing the first game is a requirement to play and enjoy this I believe since this just drops you right in pretty much where the last one ends. Whereas the first one builds up mystery and unfolds slowly this one just hits you in the face right from the start. Honestly, I think it is trying too hard to be creepy.
Perhaps it gets better as it goes on but the reason I am giving up on this is along with a bad first impression I just cannot stand the idea of trying to do this combat. Janky animations to try hit enemies whilst looping them around hoping not to get one shot grabbed.

An outstandingly fantastic game in a sea of mediocre and derivative indie horror games. While it isn't the first to tackle the idea of a time loop in closed environment as the setup for a puzzle game, there's something uniquely satisfying about it's execution in this game. Each puzzle and discovery felt like an intuitive use of the ideas presented to me, I never felt handheld and nor did I ever feel the need to reach for a guide. The art too is some of the best I've seen in any game attempting this sort of hand drawn painterly look, and the fluidity of the animation is astounding. The Music is probably not going to blow your mind, but it's really brings the atmosphere together and has a lot of talent behind it. On top of all of that, the narrative tackles some pretty interesting subtextual themes if reading into things is your cup of tea.
My only concrete criticism is that the game launched with somewhat rocky QA, but any major bugs I've encountered so far have (seemingly) been squashed. In addition, the intro tutorial in the form of an in universe videogame is cute but it feels like it's a slow first impression. (Oh, also James lost his soulless eyes and silly walk from House 1. If they patch in the silly walk its GOTY)

The clever use of mechanics that subtly play with the limited time-frame of the loop clearly shows just how well thought out this game is. Is it for everyone? Not really. But if you think this might be up your alley, it definitely is. Try out the demo for a taste at the game's weird open ended puzzle-solving, but know the full game blows it wide open.

What about the price and quality? Just like the previous game, it offers plenty of interesting story branches, tons of ways to use items, various death scenes, and the art style is incredibly well done, perfectly capturing the game's atmosphere.
Massive respect to those who avoid Let's Plays and spoilers! I hope you enjoy your purchase and have a great time playing. Going into this game blind is way more thrilling!

1. the story has moved in a wildly different direction compared to the original game. The "conclusion" was very unsatisfaying to me and completely killed it for me. The mystery, haunted feeling and somewhat magic died at the end. It kind of felt cliche and that's really a shame.
2. It is far more combat focused and it is (to me) very challenging combat. Bosses take dozens of hits to kill, there is a very small hitbox to hit them, usually in a small room to manoeuvre in, and you die in 1 hit and start over from the beginning. To me that takes away from the story and just makes things very frustrating. For a story driven game, that is not the best combination in my opinion.

I think it’s way better than house 1, I like the art style more than the pixel art from the first game, and the boss encounters are more challenging and better designed.
