+ Very charming in it's artstyle , every character and sprites is well designed and recognizable , with the exception of some enemy characters which i couldn't tell at ALL what they were supposed to be lol The bosses and the (very few) cutscenes in particular were pretty impressive visually !
+ The OST (which i bought :D) didn't blow my mind necessarily, but it was still pretty good and very in touch with the pirate theme of this game, special mention to the final boss ost which is a pure BANGER ! Some dungeons were also pretty memorable like dungeon 3 or 4 ... Dungeon 6 and one island that has a 15 second loop were pretty meh, but these were the 2 exceptions really...
+ On the gameplay and progression side, i'm genuinely SUPER impressed at the transition between on foot/on ship. It's extremely well done and uses various puzzles and level design elements to constantly make you switch between the two, and it's very clever ! My favorite being dungeon 4 which felt really cool with it .
The progression in this game... the game felt pretty slow/meh at first until i got to the midway point where things started to pick up and interest me more , i was constantly wanting to know which upgrade would be next, and it very often surprised me ! I was originally skeptical when you get a gun in the tutorial dungeon , i was like "we already have a ranged attack? thats gonna trivialize everything..." but surprisingly no ! You get really fun and unexpected upgrades that really works yet again with the pirate theme.
My favorite being the bird, which was really cool to use all the time.
The dungeons were pretty linear but in a fun way that made me really enjoy myself, albeit sometimes a tad confusing later on but nothing you can't solve on your own (i didn't use a guide whatsoever to 100% the game).
I really loved the bosses (for the most part) as they really felt epic and unique in the way to fight them , switching back from on foot to on ship , it was pretty neat.
+ The fishing minigame. I won't lie, this was my favorite part of the game by far, and it wasnt even a real fishing minigame!! but more of a pokemon battle/puzzle to solve to get the fish ... i kinda don't really want to spoil too much of it cause it was just *really* fun to figure out how to solve each fishes !
The neutral
= The exploration is ... well it's okay i guess . You collect ♥♥♥♥ around , and it's pretty fun to get new quests items , new fishes and stuff but i can't say i felt like it was enough to satisfy me... nothing was inherently wrong but the overwold map felt pretty boring to go through ... again still fun ! But wish it had more interesting side-stuff to do ...

- You have two maps inside a dungeon,a map on foot and a map on ship, and the map on foot has a glaring issue i genuinely don't understand why it was designed that way ... suppose you're finding a dock to land on the bottom left , you enter it and you open the map and you're ... on the top right??? yeah it makes no sense . In the end it doesnt matter for people who have some good sense of navigation like i do , but i bet many people are gonna get lost switching back and forth between the two maps ... if you land on the bottom left , you should see yourself on the bottom left ... it's not like there isnt enough space on the map either !! So yeah that definitely ruined my immersion a bit ...
- The story felt ... kinda mediocre ? i feel bad cause it wasn't *that* bad either, it had memorable moments, but i can't say i cared about the characters at all ... Henny was the most interesting and really it was more because i was doing a voice acting of him as a pirate than his character (shameless plug i did a full playthrough on youtube) . The ending also felt pretty flat and confusing, which left me feeling "that's it? ok" . Again i don't want to say it was *bad* but it definitely wasn't griping me whatsoever ...

The music is goated. The final fish battle music is going to be playing on repeat for me as i work.

The overworld is well designed too. It felt large enough that there was mystery, but small enough that i didn't feel overwhelmed by it. Getting from end to end was pretty reasonable.
Player tip: go to paradise dungeon as early as you can - the power up you get midway is 10/10.
It has a really beautiful balance between replication and originality, where the references feel like love letters and the originality feel like creative twists.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tA love letter to the Gameboy Zelda games and other top down adventure games. Really loved how it kept with the Gameboy feeling but was able to stray from it as well.
As a person who has played a lot of top down Zelda games (With Link's Awakening DX being my fave), the dungeons and puzzles and bosses still gave a good enough challenge without any major issues. So I expect someone who is newer to such series to still clear such challenges without needing to be a die hard fan of the genre.
My only main gripe is sometimes the wording for some in game hints, in particular the temples and how you need a companion (Which it means your Macaw) which I took to meaning you needed an NPC to handle the puzzles with you and searched around for if there was one to join me. Perhaps reword it to "feathered companion" which might help those reading it. I know the dev has addressed a few of these wordings within some updates though.
Overall completion time for me to do 100% took 10-11 hours but with the current price point its worth it for its price and you can tell a lot of work went into the game as well with both the art and story writing as well. Its a game that you can enjoy in a sitting or two and doesn't overstay its welcome, keeping the entertainment for the time spent on it as well.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
