I have been playing **7 Days to Die since ALPHA 7**. I was there when this game was barely anything compared to what it is today. I was there when The Fun Pimps were digging into their own pockets, trying desperately to get people to give their game a chance, asking the community for support and trying to build something from the ground up.
And I supported them.
I fell in love with the idea behind 7 Days to Die. I saw the potential in it when it was still rough, unfinished, buggy, and nowhere near the game it eventually became. I put countless hours of my life into it. I promoted it. I talked about it. I recommended it to friends and other players. I defended it through years of development and changes because I genuinely believed in the game and the people making it.
That is exactly why I am so unbelievably pissed off writing this now.
After all these years, I am finally DONE.
Not "taking a break." Not "maybe I'll come back next update."
**DONE. Uninstalled. Finished.**
And I'm uninstalling it with one gigantic middle finger pointed directly at what The Fun Pimps have turned this into.
The Twitch integration situation was already a massive blow for me. Twitch integration was, by far, one of the most entertaining features I had ever experienced in this game. It added something completely different and made playing with a community absolutely hilarious and unpredictable. When the legal situation surrounding that feature happened and it disappeared, I was furious.
But you know what?
I swallowed it.
I dealt with it.
I moved on because underneath all of that, I still loved 7 Days to Die.
Then came the direction the game started taking with costumes and cosmetics. Whether this is because of partnerships, business decisions, or whatever direction The Fun Pimps have decided to take the game, I absolutely hate it.
I didn't spend all these years supporting a brutal zombie survival game because I wanted to watch it slowly start feeling like another Fortnite-style costume showcase.
What happened to the gritty survival game?
What happened to the atmosphere?
What happened to the game that made me think, "Holy crap, imagine what this could become someday"?
Because this sure as hell isn't the direction I imagined when I supported it all those years ago.
And now comes the situation involving **JaWoodle**.
Based on what I've seen and heard about the dispute and legal action involving him, that was the final straw for me. If the circumstances are as they've been reported, I cannot support that behavior. JaWoodle has spent YEARS creating content around this game, entertaining players and helping keep people interested in 7 Days to Die.
That makes **THREE STRIKES** for me.
And you're out.
I never thought I would reach the point where I would actually uninstall 7 Days to Die permanently. This wasn't some random game I bought six months ago. I've watched this thing grow for YEARS. I've watched it go from something tiny into something huge. I've invested thousands upon thousands of hours of entertainment, excitement, frustration, building, surviving, restarting worlds and waiting for updates.
I was one of the people cheering this game on when it needed players cheering for it.
And now I feel like the company I supported all those years ago isn't the same company anymore.
Maybe The Fun Pimps won't care about losing one longtime player.
Maybe this review disappears.
Maybe nobody from the company ever reads a single word of it.
But I'm writing it anyway because I want it on record that somebody who has supported this game **SINCE ALPHA 7** has finally had enough.

I’ve built ridiculous bases, survived hordes that should have wiped us, played with friends for hundreds of hours, experimented with different builds, and come back after major updates more times than I can count.
That’s what makes leaving a negative review after all this time so disappointing.
My biggest problem isn’t that the game has changed. After this many years, change is expected. My problem is that the developers have increasingly felt adversarial toward the way players actually enjoy playing their game.
7 Days to Die has always been at its best when it gives players a problem and lets them come up with their own solution. Here’s a horde. Here are some blocks, traps, weapons, and tools. Figure it out.
Some players build fortresses. Some build elaborate trap bases. Some exploit pathing. Some dig. Some build towers. Some come up with completely ridiculous contraptions that somehow work. Finding those solutions was part of the fun.
But over the years, it has increasingly felt like whenever the community finds a creative way to deal with the horde that doesn’t match the developers’ intended way of playing, the response is to change the mechanics to stop it. Instead of asking, “Is the player having fun?” it often feels like the question is, “Are they playing the way we want them to?”
For a sandbox survival game, that attitude is incredibly frustrating.
For a long time, mods kept me coming back. The 7 Days to Die modding community is fantastic. Modders have added features, quality-of-life improvements, mechanics, content, and fixes that breathed new life into the game for me repeatedly. In some cases, the community implemented features years before anything comparable appeared in the base game.
At a certain point, though, you start wondering why the community has to keep carrying so much of the experience.
Then the Jawoodle situation happened.
Jawoodle is probably the single content creator most responsible for bringing me back to 7 Days to Die over the years. I would stop playing, eventually stumble across one of his new series or ridiculous experiments, and before long my friends and I would be reinstalling the game and starting another world.
His content represented exactly what I always enjoyed about 7 Days to Die: experimenting with the mechanics, finding weird interactions, testing the limits of the AI, building unconventional bases, and seeing just how far you could push the sandbox.
So seeing the situation between him and the developers unfold felt like the culmination of the problem I’ve had with the direction of the game for years.
It reinforced the feeling that creativity is welcome only as long as it stays inside the lines the developers have drawn for you.
After nearly ten years and almost 800 hours, I finally uninstalled 7 Days to Die. Several of the friends I’ve played with over the years have done the same. At this point, I don’t intend to come back.

Sometimes with early access you have to accept that the game you pay for, or even the promise of the game you pay for is not going to be the game you end up with. As the developer made this game more linear they seem to have an open antagonism with the community that played the game. I held out hope that the end product would still have enough of the bones of the original game I bought 6 years ago where I could still have fun with it.
I cannot recommend this game to anyone anymore for a variety of reasons that ultimately boil down to a lack of respect – both on the community’s side and the side of the Developers. [This is the TLDR]
On the community’s side I have seen growing concerns over the changes to the game. I too have some of those concerns. Some of the ways the community has lashed out on the forums and in chats to the developers is a little aggressive.
Which brings me to the developers. Over time they have literally changed the game completely from the one I bought into the linear new single player experience with an endless hunt for magazines while bugs that have plagued the game years now have gone unaddressed. They have time to put out over a hundred dollars’ worth of DLC costumes – but zombies are still phasing through the floor on horde night and killing people.
The one reason I have played for this long has been the modders. They are a group truly devoted to the game fixing as many issues as they can while adding additions to the game for people to enjoy. They are an amazing bunch of people who truly love this game in a way I just can’t anymore.
I came back to 7days for update 3.0 and the promise that the developers were going to course correct on a few things. I’m not expecting the moon. I know they have their own vision for the game and it’s not the same vision I purchased 6 years ago. I came into the experience with an open mind looking for anything that I used to love about this game while looking for new things to love.
What I found has been heartbreaking.

But the lack of acknowledgment for these mods from the Fun Pimps is not a great look from what could have been an easy public relations win for developers mired in an antagonistic discourse with their community.
The last three updates [3.1, 3.2,and now 3.3] broke the games for modders to the point where some people who have been modding this game for the last 10 years are leaving the community –Its endless thankless work to constantly wrestle with a game that has not finished releasing a stable product. These are people modding the game for fun- they are your biggest fans- and they don’t even get a thank you [and some of them as I’ve come to learn, get cease and desists]. Creators in the space are not exempt from this toxic behaviour from the developers either.
The fun pimps need to rehabilitate their community interactions and how they deal with aggressive criticism as well as fix bugs that have been causing issues for years – instead they are adding bandits, more costumes, and making additions to the game that originally existed as mods.
Instead of an actual dialog the developers blame the community. And the community is no better seeing this long list of issues that have piled up over the years, and the developers indifference to fixing them, they react in increasingly aggressive ways. There is no way out of this cycle except to accept the game I loved for years is truly and irrevocably dead and to move on.
After this play-through with my friends I’ll be uninstalling. I truly have nothing but kind wishes to the modders of this game as they made this game playable in between the long nothing in between patches. I do wish the developers well, but I cannot continue to support them or this game. To the community; you have valid concerns and genuine issues with the game, I just hope some of you learn how to express yourselves a little better so your message does not get written off as “Childish ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥” and ignored by the developers. I also have countless hours in this game on Playstation, back when the cities were laid out in perfect squares and perched on a cliff that the road ran down, (a bug that still exists, by the way!). Even janky as the game could be, I still had fun. (edited to add: I played this game with mods for nearly all those PC hours - this game is atrocious without modding and truly dull).
Unfortunately, this is not, apparently, what the developers of the game are interested in. They had the game going on a really good track way back when, but things really went down hill as they leaned more and more into their own personal mini game, aimed at corralling players into playing only in ways that they approved of. Once they discovered that people were playing their game in ways that they hadn’t imagined, the wheels came off the bus.
The devs are so devoted to breaking their own game it’s unbelievable.
Here’s a list of just SOME of the things that were in the game previously, and were fully functional and working, but because the Pimps didn’t like how people used them, they decided to pull them back out: temperature-based debuffs like heat shock or hypothermia, wetness effects that impacted insulation and temperature recovery. Zombie smell system that if you were carrying food would attract zombies, wellness system for a long-term health and stamina gains, weapon and armor parts for upgrading and assembly. Learn by doing skill leveling replaced by the awful perks books and magazine system. Custom tool quality progression through use, dyes and full gear color customization. Different armors like padded leather, height, scrap, iron, steel, military armor and hazmat suit. Multiple unique guns and variations like the blunderbuss, long barrel shotgun and marksman rifle. Random biome placement, more zombie spawns in the world outside of POIs, real weather impacts like sandstorms and blizzards that affect movement and visibility, stamina loss tied to temperature and sickness, layered clothing system with thermal impact, more punishing hunger and thirst mechanics. Random weather events like snow in the forest biome that would make it cold. Multiple zombie models that have been removed like the football player, cowboy, and the stripper. Gore blocks that would build up from dead zombies, allow zombies to crawl over base walls, log spikes, removed blocks like flag stone, dirt blocks, scrap metal, bricks, reinforced concrete, stainless steel, and wet bloody concrete. The nighttime actually being dark like nighttime. Vehicle parts that can be swapped out and part quality impacting vehicle speed. Glass jars, barbed wire, lootable zombie corpses, fertilizer and hoe farming system, usable table saw, sewing pockets into clothes, clothing system as a whole, zombies taking fall damage, and biofuel (this list was taken from a video by a content creator who has done more to promote this game than anyone, including the Pimps).
And that is not even the exhaustive list. Some of those things have begun to show up as DLC, which is telling. Also, DLC of chicken armor? And the lumberjack armor? Do NOT get me started on that crap.
If you are ok paying almost $50 for a game that the devs can yank apart on a whim, because their fee-fees got hurt, then by all means, buy this game and support these idiots. They'll take your money and blame you for it.

Over the years the developers steadily replaced player freedom with structured progression, standardized cosmetics behind DLC, left long-promised features (bandits, real story) undelivered across multiple “full” releases, and continued to claim the game wasn’t really multiplayer while shipping and monetizing multiplayer features.
Over the years The Fun Pimps have repeatedly stripped out survival systems (or heavily simplified them), told players the old versions were broken/unbalanceable/immersion-breaking or just needed to go for technical reasons, then years later reintroduced similar (or the same) mechanics — sometimes framed as fresh new features or optional toggles after enough community pressure.
Concrete examples that match what you’re talking about:
Smell system — Present early on, made carrying certain foods actually matter. Removed around Alpha 16–17 (said to be temporarily broken / coming back soon). Stayed gone for years. Later updates (including the 2.5 “Survival Revival” era) brought a reworked version back.

No... I used to. Loved the S#!+ out of this game, recommended it to folks and even bought it for console when it had it's ps4/gearbox phase. The game has drifted too far from it's original plans for the game and it is STILL NOT OUT OF EARLY ACCESS!!! AT THIS RATE THE NEW MEME IS "We got GTA6 before 7 Days to Die went Gold..." Initially started as a open world experience, and while the game updated they seemed tow want to change direction, they want this to be closer to an RPG and are slowly reducing open world aspects. Another is customization they quite literally removed clothes that you could vary your characters appearance and reduced it to armor sets that, in my opinion look awful, but don't worry for over 8-10$ you can buy a skin. So how long until you strip building away and lock that behind a DLC?
20ish Dollars for the Alpha, jump the price to 45$, strip basic features that've been in the alpha for over a decade and were liked, but kept everything players hated, and then attack the fan base and creators who play your game because you made a mistake and sent the wrong test version to them.

Due to the changes implemented by the developers over the last few years, the experience has become too linear and overly curated. The DLCs they release are nothing but skins, offering no real gameplay improvements, new features, or meaningful content. At this point, it feels like they are just milking the player base.
If not for the incredible modding community, I would never touch this game again. If you are a new player interested in this title, I highly recommend looking into overhaul mods as soon as possible.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

They are too busy trying to force you to play their way rather than adding more to the game.
