because I just got finished with my first playthrough of the game.
I had the pleasue of meeting the dev of Doggy Don't Care at PAX25 and even then I could tell he was extremely excited to share what he had been building with anyone that would listen. The game consists of 4 major levels with puzzles throughout them. The game does extremely well to lead you in the right direction with their puzzles without holding your hand and with fun little optional collectables and steam achevements. I found myself hanging around levels longer looking for every little secret I could find.
Being in my 20's I progressed at a faster pace, and I will probably have had this game fully wrapped up in about 6 hours with the New Game + achevements and 1 or 2 I missed. But I could see the games appeal to children which is more its intended audience. At PAX children would finish the demo then go and line back up for another go which is what you want with a game like this.
It was a pleasure seeing this game grow and release and to help support the growing Australian Indie Scene.
Fun little game like this are super important for that.

In this short little game you are playing as a Dog that, as the title says, really don't care and you can cause a whole lot of trouble and mischief through a couple of different stages/levels/locations while collecting badges and costumes. A solid indie gem that is well worth the price in my honest opinion. The developer is very active on social media and responds very fast to questions which I find is very great as it shows that he cares about the players and the game.
Pros :
- Relaxing and smooth gameplay as you roam around the stages/levels/locations causing mischief
- Easy (but not THAT easy either) to 100% the Steam achievements (perfect for achievement hunters)
- Engaging stages with challenging puzzles and secrets (costumes) to find
- Great customization with 17 different costumes to make your dog feel like your own. (I am a cat person so I went with the cat costume of course. Loved the achievement that was tied to it!
- The option to get help with some smart and clever hints is a great feature for those that are stuck
Cons :
- The jumping was a little frustrating in some of the dream levels as the jumping didn't feel responsive while running and jumping but this could be skill issue on my part (played the game wtih a Xbox One controller).
- The visibility on the sand stages with the whirlwinds made it hard to see where to go sometimes which resulted in roaming around aimlessly until things just appeared. Maybe that is by design.

Once you have figured out how everything works out you can play the whole game through in an hour, give or take. Other than that, works well both on linux and windows 11 as well as has ok performance on older lenovo t480 laptop. Speaking of; it's always fun when game devs stop by to livestreams! <3
I don't think I have any complaints. I only sorta broke the game a little bit once (made a laptop model streeetch, but it didn't affect gameplay and it fixed itself) which is pretty good considering I usually break stuff.
If you enjoy silly games like Untitled Goose Game, Little Kitty Big City, and Catlateral Damage, I think you'll thoroughly enjoy Doggy Don't Care.

Essentially, you're running through levels collecting snacks, completing badges, and wreaking havoc wherever you go. The badge system can feel a bit tricky at first as there is no real guidance on what to do, but once you get the hang of it, it starts to make sense and feels satisfying working out how to solve the puzzle for each of the badges.
