I wanted to enjoy it more based on concept/design, but the build variety viable vs. the enemy scaling makes it really restrictive, tedious, and repetitive. Great concept, but unless they rebalance I would pass if you just like the usual survivors power-building loop. At least I'd try the demo first and then read through the negative reviews and get a feel for if the game scales out in a way that you'd like.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhen I sat down to play this game today, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I ended up putting over 5 hours into it and couldn't put it down.
A reductive way to describe this game is: Vampire Survivors except the maps are side-scrolling. You have multiple characters to pick from with different starting weapons and they all feel a little different. Many of them are unlockable as you complete certain challenges, There's a shop with upgrades that will make your runs easier as well.
Each map gets progressively harder as different waves of enemies come through, with occasional bosses. The levels themselves have completely climbable walls and ceilings that you simply stick to and can maneuver about. The background is sometimes also climbable.
Enemies drop blood which is experience, and you level up, selecting from a random set of upgrades. It's a bit more varied than VS in that weapons can upgrade in number of projectiles, area/size or in other ways particular to their function. Some upgrades give a ricochet or piercing effect, or the Laser might get an upgrade that does more damage the longer it is touching an enemy. You can reroll your upgrades with coins, a currency you also accumulate with experience. Coins can also unlock locked chests on the map for more upgrades, and enemies will drop chests as well to give you even more upgrades on top of the ones you get from gaining blood/experience.
There are some truly weird and fun weapons, like a bouncing basketball, a cloud of toxic gas, a damaging webbing (that you can climb on) or a turret. It's worth noting all the weapons auto-shoot their projectiles and they are not manually aimed (usually at the closest enemies). You seem to only be able to have two weapons at once, but you can have what seems to be an unlimited amount of support upgrades that rather come as unique upgrades to your particular weapons or just supplimentary.
One cool support ability is a zombie ring that infect enemies to be on your side, and they go off and infect even more. Another upgrade lets you absorb HP from critical hits. In fact, increasing your luck synergizes with crit-based proc abilities like this, and many others. I've only unlocked a small fraction of what's available in my 5 hours of play, judging by the massive tome of abilities you can scroll in the game's library.
The game gets pretty hectic and fun once you figure out how to survive long enough to see the later bosses of a level. I have to highly recommend the game if you like Vampire Survivors and side-scrollers, as this one feels particularly well-made (from the creators of Nidhogg 1 and 2!)

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI don't normally play this kind of game as I am terrible at them but... after seeing the trailer for this (and, more importantly, hearing the soundtrack on it) I knew I must purchase this game. I played the hell out of the demo and now have 40 hours in the full game. I've managed to beat all levels multiple times and while it has certainly been a steep learning curve for me, it was well worth it imo. Once you get a load of stuff unlocked the game is a little more forgiving. It remains fun and incredibly addictive! Medieval drum n bass jungle ftw! Thanks Messhof! Also a big fan of Wheel World and I loved Flywrench style and soundtrack - need to check out Nidhogg next methinks...

Also really reminds me of Nuclear Throne with how there's plenty of depth but there aren't that many actual decisions in a run. So if you want a bullet heaven that beats you up with incredible charm then this is 100% worth the buy.

It's hard for me to leave a negative review because the game looks so interesting but I'm not having any fun anymore, it's more frustrating than fun. I felt the same way about Megabonk which I didn't find was very original or understood what it was trying to do outside of just copying game mechanics and UX. The fact I still had some ROR2 DLCs to play just made me feel like I could be having more fun playing that instead.

I'd give it a 5/10, but for the first 4 hours it was more like an 8/10.
The art style and soundtrack are amazing. But I really can't recommend it whole heartedly.
I also started noticing the balancing issues people talked about over time. Why is one random tiny red bird able to tank so much damage? Why is bone snake dead in 2 seconds but the frog and tiger boss feel only killable by finding an exploit area they can't land on? For the most part I can forgive that stuff and still had a blast with this game...
BUT... the one thing that I really dislike is that (from my experience, idk how it works exactly) I got almost 40% into the game before it decided to unlock the ability to buy extra weapon slots.
That felt like a giant artificial grind was added for no reason and it feels cheap. Those runs you did where you got super far or had some clutch explosion trigger just at the right time are cheapened and were doomed from the start because the game withheld stuff from you for no reason other than to pad gameplay.
Some stuff unlocking with time works great, jump heights, small perks like drop site related stuff, but gating things that are core to you having a successful run until you have more hours in the game really sucks.
Ultimately I feel like this design decision contradicts the premise of a survivors like where platforming skills are important to your success if you just have to grind until your profile is fully upgraded.

The balance feels absolutely abysmal? Some of the upgrades feel like they're only there to bloat the pool, and RNG is RNG beyond. You want more damage? Too bad, have another size upgrade that doesn't help when everything takes 10 hits to actually kill. The jumps between bosses are ridiculous besides. You can completely destroy the first boss, then the next wave just eats you alive. The amount of conflicting things spawning onscreen make some of the upgrades actually dangerous to take (zombie is super useful, but can be very difficult to see on some of the monsters as to what will/won't hit you; burning is useful, but again blocks your view of what's coming to hit you; and waves will spawn with things that fly across the screen at angles, fly directly towards you, and drop down all at the same time). That's not to say that I don't enjoy hectic, because I'm a huge bullet heaven fan - but the visibility in this is frankly junk when it wants to ramp up so hard.
I think the existing upgrade need a look over, or maybe rates of how often things show up. It's a bit better after some balancing, but it still feels out of left field after certain tiers unless you get amazing luck. Most well done games of this ilk are pretty winnable even with moderate or subpar builds, but this one feels like you have to get The Perfect Combo and play pretty much the same way every time to succeed. Makes me sad, because I love the art style, I love the concept, it's just.

To start off with positives it's a very interesting iteration on the survivors formula and I appreciate the attempt to make it not "stand still for 20 minutes" simulator like a lot of other games in the genre. The art style is also very charming,
However for the negatives, i'm going to start with the big one here, the balancing is genuinely atrocious currently. Half the items are so niche in their use or are just flat out terrible, so you end up having an immensely bloated loot pool where you just have to say over and over again "this all sucks but this is the least terrible one ig". The enemies scale way too out of control and the game has consisently given me impossible runs not because of my own fault, but because the game refused to give me the items I needed to fend off the hoard of bullet sponges flying at me. There's of course also a bunch of enemies who you'll have no way to counter as they just flew off screen directly on to you within less than a second, and a handful of enemies that shoot projectiles at you also off screen, which sure is.... fun? Even when you do get a good run, it doesn't feel satisfying because it just immediately ends upon killing the last boss, which means no victory lap for you like in Megabonk or Vampire Survivors.
Some of the characters in this game are also so cartoonishly bad, I genuinely thought the Bug was meant to be a joke. His the single "upside" is having the worst flight ever put in a game because they decided to give you ice physics when you fly. This is in the same game where there's already a character who puts webs everywhere, effecitvely letting HIM also fly without the ice physics. The bug is also somehow NOT even the worst character in the game because Krug exists.
I haven't even mentioned how obscenely grindy the game is. If you even want to THINK about winning a run then you need to buy all the shop upgrades, so you're essentially forced to throw yourself against a wall over and over again, playing impossible runs in the early game grinding bones just to have a CHANCE at beating a run.
I really do want to like this game, I think it has a LOT of potential and i'm willing to change my review to a postive if we get updates fixing my issues, but as it stands I just can't reccomend the game in it's current state.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

One of the biggest draws is the stylized designs, though I did think those candles were crates for a bit there, I adore the art style. The music is amazing, the progression feels like a good curve with plenty of replay-ability.
I hope to see more levels added in the future, and maybe more secrets in the starting area/in runs. I adore this game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There are a few issues I have with it:
- passive upgrades make the game feel like a grind in the beginning but once things are unlocked the game becomes much easier without any challenge
- runs always end after 3 bosses so there's no way to continue a good run. I'd love an endless mode or boss rush
- map variations get boring after learning all the chest locations and cycling through them\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
