\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhy is it I have to re-install the ENTIRE game, every time there is an update!?!? Wildcard and Snail games really dropped the ball on this one. ASE was a little understandable because I started playing in 2016 and watched as the game grew up. With ASA they had the opportunity to ACTUALLY fix the game and get a fresh start but, no. They instead decided to lock everything behind paywalls, refuse to listen to their actual customer base for fixes, and set their update system up in a way that doesn't make sense. Why does a hotfix basically uninstall and reinstall the game. Snail games took an ASE turd, (That we all somehow loved and enjoyed) and pushed it through Unreal engine 5, to create the ASA polished turd. (Which is actually worse than its ASE counterpart.) To remodel a home, you need to fix the foundation and all the hidden things in the walls. Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, etc. before you put in all your shiny finishes. Snail games and Wildcard skipped over the hidden work required to fix their game and instead pushed out all the shiny finishings and left a crumbling foundation. I had high hopes but after almost 4 years since this game came out you can clearly tell they don't care about the players or their products.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Ive played sometime into this game. Ive learned how to make my own servers and beat my head against bricks to do it. In doing so everytime cubecoders or wildcard drops an update it crashed everything, Ive started over multiple times in my worlds building breeding to be at 0 again.... now im on docker and afyer the genesis update and their constant hotfixes and now this summer bash crap runs of updates they have crashed everything again. No mods are working. Causing my servers to not run due to failed loops in mod download. So again ive lost all the dinos Iand buildings and failed mayerial i had trying to clean it up and refresh. I do not recommend this game at all wish I could I love it so dam much but now Ive lost my players ive lost my passion and im tired of my money going into thin air. Im tired of having a 400 gb download for 1 game.........this alone is making me not play any game at all. So im glade wildcard doesnt care about consumers or their products and i will go find something else to with my time......\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Maybe its just the child in me drooling over the dinosaurs... But the real question is, is it still worth playing? Personally, i think so; this doesn't mean it doesn't come without its share of problems though.
For those who haven't played Ark before; the Survival Ascended variant is simply just a prettier and better version of the original 2017 Survival Evolved game. It also comes with all the optional map add-ons that arguably cost too much. But regardless of my feelings on its monetization and quality of "DLC" maps, Ark is still a great buy for anyone looking for a Dino survival game.
Like many of the survival/crafting games of the genre, Ark will dump players into a relatively unforgiving world that will require players to start fighting to survive nearly immediately. From there, there is actually a really nice flow of technological progression that makes advancement feel like more than just an increase in stats. Your dinosaurs and what is available to you will also progressively get better. Most of the dinosaurs in the game can be tamed and ridden should you have the appropriate saddle unlocked. The games progression will also take you to a variety of monster-filled caves to acquire artifacts that will be used to summon three challenging bosses. These fights will require you to be extremely prepared as it is extremely punishing to lose in one of these encounters. Not only will you lose any armor, weapons, and ammo you had equipped, but potentially several hours of gathering and crafting. you’ll also lose the artifacts needed to summon the boss, forcing you to replay those challenging caves all over again.
The biggest drag about the games progression cycle is simply the grind for resources and new gear. However, this can be easily mitigated with players simply toying with the world setting from the menu. Be warned though, Ark is a LONG game, even with the changes you can make to the settings.
Ark also has quite an interesting narrative flourish; defeating all three bosses unlocks an endgame dungeon that reveals a surprising amount of backstory behind the ARKs and their purpose. I personally found it quite interesting and it honestly only increased the hype I have for Ark 2. if the game ever comes out.... The game also has array of "Explorers Notes" collectibles that expand on the games story and atmosphere.
If I ignore the crappy monetization, Ark is genuinely good game that I would recommend to anyone who likes survival games. It has a good array of maps for people to play, some of which are much better than others. I don't know about you, but I will always find riding ridding a T-Rex or Sniping something from a flying mount enjoyable.

Everytime there is an update I have to have double the space of the game to update. 500gb to just do a 1gb update. Update the game and get launch issues. Once you are in game be ready to literally take 2 steps forward and 1 step back, the desync in this game is nothing like anything else. The amount of hackers in public servers is just unavoidable, they do not get banned and are very open on there aim hacks and speed hacks, this is a poor excuse to spend $50 or whatever they want now. So the reason I am giving it a negative review is the monetization is such a bad look when the optimization is in such a bad spot. This game is roughly 400GBs when you have all the DLC, it runs like ♥♥♥♥ and I have a pretty strong PC. So I can't imagine how bad it feels on a system most average people are running. If they cared to prioritize optimization instead of milking the players for money I'd give it a positive review. Cause the game itself is pretty damn fun, when it works.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Unfortunately, the technical state of the game completely ruined the experience.
Throughout my 30+ hours of playtime, the game crashed constantly, regularly causing me to lose 10 to 20 minutes of progress at a time. I kept putting up with it because I hoped updates would improve stability. Instead, it only got worse.
The final straw was when the game crashed and sent my PC into a black screen and boot loop. I had to spend over two hours restoring Windows just to get my computer working again. After finally recovering my system, I launched the game again to test it, and it crashed in the main menu before I even started playing. The exact same thing happened a second time. Another black screen. Another boot loop. Another hour spent recovering my PC.
No game should be capable of causing this level of system instability.
To make matters worse, despite explaining everything to Steam Support, including the repeated crashes and the fact that the game effectively rendered my PC unusable twice, my refund request was still denied because I had played too many hours. Those hours were spent trying to enjoy the game and hoping the issues would be fixed, not because I had finished it and wanted my money back.
I wanted to love this game. Underneath all the crashes is an amazing survival experience. Sadly, the technical problems completely overshadowed that.
Avoid this game at all costs until the developers can prove it is stable. No amount of fun is worth risking your progress, your time, or potentially your PC. I played Ark: Survival Evolved on mobile for nearly two years before deciding to finally invest in real gaming technology specifically to be able to play Ascended. I decided to get a Steam Deck specifically for this and two other games since IT'S MARKED AS VERIFIED and was extremely disappointed to find that it was unplayable. I spent over an hour trying to get the settings right, but Ark is a hard game and even with graphics all the way down and using cheats to turn off shadows and a lot of other tricks applied, frame rates were terrible and input delay was despicable. Maybe I'd recommend it if I'd actually been able to play it, but until that time there's no way I'd tell you to buy it if you have a Steam Deck\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I have limited space available so I have to unstall the whole game and reinstall for the each updates. Until you update, you will not be able to play.
