I first played the standalone Meta Quest 3 version of the first game for over 200 hours.
To support the dev team, CM Games, I bought the Steam version as well and got all the achievements.
To me, the first game was the absolute peak of VR gaming—even better than Half-Life: Alyx.
So naturally, I had sky-high expectations for Into the Radius 2.
Right now, I’ve played nearly 50 hours of ITR2, and yesterday I finished all non-co-op achievements on Iron Man mode.
Regrettably, I feel like the second game just doesn't live up to the first one.
If the first game was a 100/100, the second one is a 60 at best.
In ITR1, every single map had its own extremely unique vibe.
Chapter 1 had the abandoned train station and the two warehouses full of anomalies.
Chapter 2 had the super intense rooms next to the swamp.
Chapter 3 had the isolated, helpless feeling of the canyon.
Chapter 4 had the garages and the tank.
And the final chapter inside the Radius itself was incredible.
I was so immersed that I’d daydream about what I’d do if my friends and I got dropped into these maps in real life, and how I’d lead them to safety.
In ITR2, though, every map feels like a half-finished product, like it’s just recycled assets stacked together.
There’s no strong, distinct identity separating the three maps either.
On top of that, there are so many random collision objects on the ground that throw you into the air while walking—it’s a bizarre design that completely ruins the immersion.
A lot of great features that made ITR1 special didn’t make it into the sequel.
Like the teleporting shadow figure—that was basically the mascot of Into the Radius.
And for gun maintenance, you don't even have to clean the barrels or the magazines anymore.
Weapon variety doesn't feel distinct enough either; you can basically beat the game using Level 3 guns.
The over-fragmented, highly customizable weapon attachment system actually ruined the fun of wanting to try out every single gun for me (though that might just be my personal preference).
By the time I got to the endgame, I couldn't help but wonder if ITR2 was made by a brand-new dev team that never played or got immersed in the original.
I truly loved the experience the first game gave me.
Back then, I didn't even want to beat the game because I didn't want it to end.
Sadly, the sequel didn't give me that same feeling.
With ITR2, I just wanted to rush through it, get all the achievements, and be done with it.
As a die-hard fan of Into the Radius, if there's ever an ITR3 in the future, I’ll still support it.
Performance issues also hurt my experience, though I know that's on my end.
I’m running a RTX 4060 with 8GB RAM, so I can only play on low settings.
Even then, after playing for 30 minutes, pulling out the map causes insane lag stuttering.
Of course, this is a limitation of my own specs, and I've been waiting for performance optimization updates, but it definitely affected my play experience.
Now I have to figure out how to do the co-op achievements... I hope my hardware can handle it...

Good game mechanics, good atmosphere, terrible creative decision by the devs.
I loved first game - one of best VR games I ever played. And I will compare stuff to the first game a lot.
As for this game, it improved lot of aspect of first game - gear and weapon customization is great! I absolutely love how you can position your packs and gear on your vest in any way you want. Really great use of VR potential.
Now let me just straight up to the worst part of game - anomalies.
While signature part of Radius, they took worst aspect of anomalies from first game and made it even worse.
Anomalies are EVERYWHERE!!!
Now - thankfully there is option to lower or disable random spawn. On "normal" (by default) you can barely walk ten steps without getting hit by one. And that will take most of your life.
So it kills pacing by forcing you to inch slowly and throw your detectors all the way.. thats.. not..fun..
With random disabled you can leave only clusters - while better, its still really badly done.
Anomalies dont work properly, detectors dont work properly, many times you cannot even spot them and they will mess up your progression. And sometimes there is simply no way between them... especially those lighting ones are not triggering by probes most of time.
This by itself earned the game negative review from me. Game dont respect players time and artificaly stretches playtime.
On the topic of wasting players time.

Gods I cant express how much I hate this stupid bastard.
Why the **** I have to shake his hand every time? Why is he standing and waving on me so often? why is he talking so much?
Is this some kind of dev fetish to make players shake hand with their imaginary "best buddy" npc?
Why do I need to stay on spot with thumb in my ass and listen to his talk? I wanna go explore, not listen to some ghost guy telling me how corporation is bad. You cant even mute his voice! Part of game story? Great - why not having it on tapes like in first game? You can play it when you feel like it (like chilling in your base)
Many players complained about him months ago and nothing was done.
Visuals - game look gorgeous. I love the world vibe - though I prefer more older looking gear from first game - this feels bit too modern but thats matter of taste.
What kills visuals for me is that low-hp state.. why would I want most of my screen covered by red while listening to heartbeat? If I dont have syringes it will stay with me until I heal. For love of everything what is holy - give us option to remove it!
Now being perfectly honest - this is still definitelly above average game, but if I leave positive review, nobody will read it and fixing the things I mention would elevate this game from "decent" to "amazing"
So I really hope someone on dev team will read this and it will be fixed.

No idea what they are choosing to use their time on but into the radius 2 Still needs work. The gun walls not complete in the slightest, re-playability is non existent, And the game needs more options to end game.
Saving grace. Modder's. My last playthrough was enjoyable because I modded the hell out of it to make the game feel like a mixture of Stalker, Metro, and Chernobelite. Better movement, more speed, better gun play, functional artifices that do things instead of just being cash to exchange.
Issue is. Because the mods do a lot of the heavy lifting to make the game enjoyable. Any and every update the game has gotten or will get breaks them. That's nothing new. What is new is people's limb stick attitude to people that do a job better then you. it use to be. Game comes out, has an open source to allow modders to make things, those games still have community's and players and a fandom to this day. (Skyrim, Fallout, HLA, Mech Worrier 5) So on.
Now its "Mod's are unhealthy for a games life span." "Mods Ruin a Dev's image for a game." "Mods take money out of the Dev teams hands."

Could sell a lot more with opening up full mod support and letting the community make the game into its own. make its own joined world spaces, let people craft things along side the game... then the copies would also sell well.

What I DO like about ITR2:
- The story, while it isn't groundbreaking or anything, does what it needs to in terms of guiding you throughout the game
- The removal of armor and AP rounds was a positive choice in my opinion, because it made the smaller rounds like 9x18 still usable, even in the endgame (though this wouldn't be a good choice)
- The options given to the player in terms of wearables and guns is simply amazing. The different parts available, the paints, camos, backpacks, and holsters all make for a very enjoyable time when getting ready for your next trip.
- Nighttime visibility for enemies was a HUGE thing for me in ITR1, and the reason I never went out at night. I never found it fun to be getting shot at from long distances when I couldnt even tell where it was coming from, making me totally helpless. In contrast, ITR2 makes it so that at nighttime enemies can't tell where you are unless you get right up on them, which is an extremely welcome change for me.
What I DONT like:
- ITR1 had a sense of loneliness that pervaded the whole game, which felt kind of special to me. In my opinion, Lauri detracts from that special atmosphere that the 1st game had, and I feel as though he would be much better off as a statue, akin to Katya from the 1st game, with level transitions being ropes as they were in ITR1. Eva doesn't detract from the atmosphere for me because we aren't given the chance to really interact with her face to face.
- Stashed weapons having degraded stats sorta kills the excitement for me of finding free guns in the radius. A big part of both ITR1 and ITR2 for me is to make a point of saving money by scavenging items in the radius rather than buying them from the shop at base. Discouraging looting guns from the radius by making them worse in every way to the shop counterparts is a very strange choice in my opinion.
- Knives feel sort of lazily tacked on at the end for me. Given that you can eat food with your hands now, and that there's a literal spork you can buy, I feel like there just isn't a reason for them to be in the game, as they suck genuine doodoo in combat, to the point where if you get the CHANCE to use a knife, its always better to just run away.
What I have mixed feelings on:
- The larger maps make for a more fluid experience I feel like, but in terms of how large ITR2 is, it does honestly feel smaller than ITR1 for me. I feel like the addition of one or two more large maps could have fixed this, like for example maybe another map similar to Pobeda Factory from ITR1? Point is, the maps ARE good, but theyre SO good that I just wish there were more of them.
- The artefacts in ITR2 DO have better designs than ITR1, the idea of the radius trying to "recreate" household objects that were in Pechorsk at the time of the event is a really cool concept, but functionally, artefacts are just more valuable altered items. In ITR1, artefacts really did have useful abilities (useful is an overstatement, talking abt the "steps" and "night eye" artefacts here.) I know that supposedly a "laboratory" was in development that would make artefacts functional? However, I have yet to hear anything about it.
Conclusion:
This is a REALLY great game, maintaining the atmosphere and gameplay that made ITR1 so special to me. Aside from a couple of choices that seemed questionable to me, I would recommend this game to someone else on ANY day. Now I just need to convince my friends to play with me :(\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

And I was hoping this one was going to be as good or better than the first. But it is not. The game doesn't look good. Constant lag spikes even down on medium quality and the thing I noticed the most is how bad the body rig is. I also tried the coop with a friend and that was the same exact situation just with another person. Oh and the shaders at game start take ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forever.

The NPCs are horrible and completely ruin the vibe and experience of the game in every manner possible, they have got to go. The story is a perfect example of go home and do it again. The optimization is still pretty bad, there isn't any sort of body adjustment or controller rotation/adjustment, and the torso tracking has been god awful since 0.14 and they haven't fixed it, more or less turning it into a feature at this point. I absolutely love this game and its counterpart but the developers are foolish for making these poor decisions. They need to completely remove the voiced characters from the game, rewrite the entire story, and focus on quality of life and accessibility options before anything else.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\ti've enjoyed the first game, but like with the Stalker 2, ITR 2 isn't it. it's not a continuation of the first game, it's a whole different game. and from that prospective that's good, but that's it. i like the style of new gear, i like the customization mechanics, i love the redesign of the sphere in the center of the zone. but everything else is mediocre. guns feel alright, but they feel weaker. also, the game is very poorly optimized. i have a good PC, but my game lags on medium graphic. plus, the game crashes instantly and for some reason the image flips if you start the game first, and not start the Steam VR first. plus, the devs took the 'horror' elements too high. during night, you can't see anything, the visibility in the first location is just awful, and the enemies look scarier. overall, if you ignore the crashes and bad optimization, the game's good, but still, buy at your own risks.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
