\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAt the time of this review i'd just finished the church mission and got promoted to security level 3. I will update my review the further i progress through the game. Game played singleplayer on default normal difficulty on the lowest graphics settings.
The entire time i played this game i just feel frustrated by both the game design decisions and technical issues. Which is a shame since the first game was one of my favourite VR games.
Starting with the things i like about the game:
A lot of people don't like the new sterile digital atmosphere this game has compared to the more postapocalyptic ragtag analog feeling of the original. I don't mind it as much, i think it's a good change to signify the passing of time and involvement of the UNPSC since the events of the first game.
I also enjoy the new shop system and the modularity of the equipment, i just wish i could pick and try any gun and parts regardless of security level as currently you can't even take locked items off the rack if you don't have the required level.
The new mimic designs are cool and a good improvement over the black shadows of the original.
Then the things i don't like about the game (there's a LOT):
Some mechanics feel like a downgrades or unnecessary changes from the original. No more ramrod, now it's just brushing and the toothbrush can break for some reason. The automatic repairing station is nowhere to be found which sucks, in the original because you had the option to just spend money to skip the tedious equipment cleaning.
Probes are now consumable, 50 probes per dispenser.
Food is now nowhere to be found in the radius (literally can't think of a good reason for this) and you can only buy them from the shop for so much money including the crackers which are just downright useless (why are they even there, just buy the snickers bars).
There's no more weapon crate spawns in the world. There's random gun stashes in the world but they don't respawn in the tide and there's no notes you can find that gives you clues on where they are.
Payouts for normal missions are peanuts and they're the same missions over and over again.
The usable artifacts in the first game was really interesting. They're not in this game, now you just have regular items that turn black you can sell for money.
Jumping mechanic is barely usable since you can only jump like a foot off the ground anyway. The platforming parts just add frustration.
The tide is less interesting because now just downright kills you instead of teleporting you somewhere random.
The voice acting and direction for characters SUCK. In fact this game probably doesn't need NPC voice acting in the first place. Can Lauri just SHUT UP please. He sounds too happy like some videogame tutorial character instead of someone actually in a post apocalyptic universe. The lady that calls you from the mission monitor has that annoying millenial humour voice. You know that clip from Viewfinder, "hold on, did you just shift reality?", that one.
Onto the technical issues, this game is really poorly optimised. I have a decent mid spec laptop that ran ITR1 fine but chugs all the time in this game. It barely runs on 8gb VRAM. RAM can be upgraded but for VRAM you're stuck with what you have. A lot of times you flinch and move your character so fast the game just freezes for several seconds and pray the enemies don't get cheap shots on you while you're incapacitated.
The hand angle using the Pico 4 controllers is about 20 degrees downward and there's no option to set angle offset in the settings. You can use the Pico Connect app to offset it sure, but this shouldn't be an issue in the first place.
TLDR: Too many changes in this game feel like downgrades to the original. Get Into the Radius 1 instead.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The concept of the enemies from ITR1 was understandable for performance. But now, having textures and feeling is great.
But the biggest part of my enjoyment is the Multiplayer... I love playing with my friends more than single player.
The graphics are not always good looking, could be better, I would hope this will improve over time, but since my main experience is Multiplayer, well, this game still needs A LOT OF WORK!
The amount of times the Host must fix my weapons and anything that packs and holds things and interact with, needs host control to fix.
It mainly happens when you die.
Weapons can't be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and loaded.
You take backpack content out, you can't put it back in.
Wanna hang your scanner on your arm, NOPE!
You die holding your gun, it's hit or miss on keeping it.
Your backpack won't load when you die, requiring host to save and reload.
There is a area with a pool with death water that you can fall through... You don't die and you can't get out coz if you try, the top of the water kills you.
What was worse? That skim death water hides what's under... INCLUDING YOUR BACKPACK!
Your backpack should be fair and float over where you died or move to the side, but no...
Not all traps render, so you can find yourself electrocuted or blasted by something.
Or enemies, mostly the human like ones, can glitch walk, blinking everywhere until they are in your face.
Or *spoilers*....
They sit where you teleport and you die instantly.
Lots to work on to make it not so buggy and more enjoyable for all players.
Overall, not something to turn from, but if bugs frustrate you easily, hold off a little longer.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The game has a massive problem with unstable FPS, with drops happening every 3 seconds and making my motion sickness kick in after just 5 minutes of gameplay. Some areas are literally unplayable because of this.
You may say, "Maybe your PC, connection type, or headset is the problem," but with a 4060 Ti, 32 GB of DDR5, Wi-Fi 7, Steam Link, and a Meta Quest 3S working flawlessly in every other VR game, that is unfortunately not the case.

The graphics can be good or beyond horrid, just depends on how the game feels that day. You might also have an endlessly vibrating screen effect every 10 seconds. No one knows how to fix this. The controls are beyond horrid, and good luck rebinding them. The name for what the button does is not listed when rebinding. On top of that, your hands are at a down tilted angle. You have to break your wrists to have normal looking hands. I really really wanna like this game, but every time I play is 50 minutes of trying to fix ♥♥♥♥. Hopefully the dev doesn't abandon the game, and adds some much needed polish and QOL.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Good game mechanics, good atmosphere, terrible creative decision by the devs.
I loved first game - one of best VR games I ever played. And I will compare stuff to the first game a lot.
As for this game, it improved lot of aspect of first game - gear and weapon customization is great! I absolutely love how you can position your packs and gear on your vest in any way you want. Really great use of VR potential.
Now let me just straight up to the worst part of game - anomalies.
While signature part of Radius, they took worst aspect of anomalies from first game and made it even worse.
Anomalies are EVERYWHERE!!!
Now - thankfully there is option to lower or disable random spawn. On "normal" (by default) you can barely walk ten steps without getting hit by one. And that will take most of your life.
So it kills pacing by forcing you to inch slowly and throw your detectors all the way.. thats.. not..fun..
With random disabled you can leave only clusters - while better, its still really badly done.
Anomalies dont work properly, detectors dont work properly, many times you cannot even spot them and they will mess up your progression. And sometimes there is simply no way between them... especially those lighting ones are not triggering by probes most of time.
This by itself earned the game negative review from me. Game dont respect players time and artificaly stretches playtime.
On the topic of wasting players time.

Why the **** I have to shake his hand every time? Why is he standing and waving on me so often? why is he talking so much?
Is this some kind of dev fetish to make players shake hand with their imaginary "best buddy" npc?
Why do I need to stay on spot with thumb in my ass and listen to his talk? I wanna go explore, not listen to some ghost guy telling me how corporation is bad. You cant even mute his voice! Part of game story? Great - why not having it on tapes like in first game? You can play it when you feel like it (like chilling in your base)
Many players complained about him months ago and nothing was done.
Visuals - game look gorgeous. I love the world vibe - though I prefer more older looking gear from first game - this feels bit too modern but thats matter of taste.
What kills visuals for me is that low-hp state.. why would I want most of my screen covered by red while listening to heartbeat? If I dont have syringes it will stay with me until I heal. For love of everything what is holy - give us option to remove it!
Now being perfectly honest - this is still definitelly above average game, but if I leave positive review, nobody will read it and fixing the things I mention would elevate this game from "decent" to "amazing"
So I really hope someone on dev team will read this and it will be fixed.

STEER AWAY IF YOU WANT TO PLAY COOP!
To start with there is obviously MASSIVE visual glitches.
Here is a list of the glitches I encountered in coop despite the game being a "finished product" (40$ Price tag!):
As a host:
1-Sometimes you suffer a game crash.
2-A chance for ammoboxes to not be able to be loaded by bullets of the same kind despite having enough room in the ammobox.
3-You usually appear offline for other players, thus they can't join you in-game, they must go to steam friends list outside of the game and click join game from your steam profile.
4-Lauri doesn't teleport you despite grabbing his hand.
As a client (player other than host):
1-Gun floats away from the hand it's held in, hand gets super stretched as it floats away, then the gun disappears, until the host picks it up themselves, the client won't be able to see the glitched gun in this state.
2-There is a small chance for some guns to not have a bullet in the chamber, despite being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ beforehand.
3-Issues with in-game voice system not syncing in the Facility, thus you are muted for the other players.
4-You crash frequently
5-HIGH CHANCE for you to auto drop stuff in your hand if you grab them while running, also drop items already in hand if you started running (especially if you come across a desync in collision boxes).
6-HIGH CHANCE for you to drop and lose stuff you grab and they disappear on your end, but the host can still see it, and when the host picks it up, it shows up again for you.
7-Backpack not being able to hold items often after grabbing it from the back (if you put something in it during this state the item will just fall through the bag), so you have to ask the host to put stuff into your backpack instead, and then it starts working properly magically.
9-Often you spawn sinking into the ground if you load into a new area/die and respawn, thus you have to calibrate your height again or you will stay as a midget.
10-Often you are unable to load mags into your rifle, it especially happens with AK pattern rifles.
11-Often your gun starts having a visual glitch where it's parts start "disassembling" without actually affecting the functionality of the gun, but it makes it harder to track the state of the gun, because you can for instance have the gun receiver be somewhere and the gun frame be somewhere else.
12-A chance for ammoboxes to not be able to be loaded by bullets of the same kind despite having enough room in the ammobox.
13-Rare chance for your items to not be sellable in the item shop, so the host's got to grab them and throw them themselves.
14-Lauri doesn't teleport you despite grabbing his hand.
15-Dandelion Anomalies (which is one of the MOST NOTRIOUS ANOMALIES THAT KILLS YOU QUICKLY AND APPEAR IN LARGE NUMBERS) doesn't render (appear) on the client side until the host restarts their game (not reloads, RESTARTS).
16-HIGH CHANCE that when you load into another area, your already ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gun is now uncocked, and you have to rack the slide/chagrining handle AGAIN, so if you face off with an enemy without knowing about this, you will find out that your gun is not firing, have to hastily ♥♥♥♥ it, only for you to take massive damage/die from the enemy encounter, plus the game gaslights you by showing that the gun is ready to fire (bullet in chamber and safety off).
17-MODERATE CHANCE for flashlights/Night Vision devices to not be toggleable, thus you have to ask the host to take them from you, then give it back to you so you can toggle them on and off, this happens especially when loading another area.
This game doesn't deserve to be called finished, many things are still missing, and the bugs are PLEANTY on COOP, which is the MAIN POINT OF THE GAME, THE THING IT WAS DESIGNED ABOUT.

I enjoyed the chest rig system and choosing where to put ammo pouches and things like that the. puzzle at the church was fun to figure out (even though i spent a good 10 minutes not knowing what the hell i was supposed to do) I wish they made more top priority mission like that
The meh: The price for food is TERRIBLE as it should not cost 200 supply credits for a pack OF CRACKERS that do next to nothing for your stamina, that is the same price as a can of beef in into the radius 1 (which fully refills your stamina bar). The characters way talk too much which kind of ruins the feeling of isolation that the first game has. the voice acting is not great as Luari just sounds robotic and painfully unaware of the things going on around him. The top priority missions all feel like introductions to new mission types that you get to do over and over again which brings me to the lack of mission variety
the missions: place sensor, place distortion sensor and place terminal evac device are literally the same mission also when you complete a mission you get THE SAME MISSON just in a slightly different spot.
The bad: The choice to get rid of artifacts honestly just felt lazy, in into the radius 1 I always thought that the artifacts were under utilized but it was still a cool concept so when into the radius 2 artifacts didn't do anything i was kind if disappointed but i thought maybe they'll add that in the future. But nope they just completely get rid of it. The game feels weirdly vibrant and alive when compared to the post apocalyptic aesthetic of the first game. The enemies are unthreatening to say the least and most of the mimic voice lines once again fall flat. Speaking of enemies where the hell are the seekers and sliders because the game needs something to break up the endless hordes of mimics.

It's also probably the buggiest game I have ever played, and I have played my fair share of early access games. The amount of crashes and gamebreaking bugs (guns unable to reload, magazines disappearing on level transition, enemies shooting me from under the water, and so many more) make this game impossible to recommend. Which is a shame, because this is also one of the most fun gaming experiences to play with friends when everything works. But when my friends are crashing every 2 minutes or losing guns they spent hours obtaining, it just becomes frustrating. I still enjoy the game and will finish it. I hope the developers do fix this game, because it is a gem.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

A true gun-enjoyer sort of title, setting up your rig and your pouches for easy access, loading up your mags, taking your tools, taking food, and venturing out to see if you can find some money in the zone.
Get back, you physically unload your items from your backpack and neatly organize them on your shelves, in a way only VR games could. It's all physics based and tactile, and very satifsying every time.
Later on you start getting rigs with so many pouches, an armor plate, and truly kitting out your gun with parts and mods out the ass. I've only scratched the very surface of that, but you can see what becomes available in the store. Guns feel incredible in this game, way better than any flat game could.
This game is a dream if you like the two sided gameplay loop of preparing at the base for a mission, setting up your gear, loading mags, repairing, replenishing, upgrading, and then going out fully stocked and hoping you don't lose your backpack out there, very Tarkov. Except you do all of that in VR, in 3D, making even cleaning and reloading a fun minigame.
The details really matter for immersion, and these guys don't shy from effort. You can even see the bullet impact on your armor plates when you're back at base. That sort of thing makes all the difference to me.
I always read so many negative reviews, but for this game, truly unwarranted. I get it, you don't like the cringe dude that orbits the player, whatever man. If such a small grievance ruins the game, how do you enjoy anything at all? Guessing you don't. Overlooking all the effort, all the quality in this title, for small complaints? Seriously deranged.
The devs also perfectly managed to keep all the detail within the boundaries of what's still fun. Sacrificing a little realism for ease of use, saving the general player a lot of frustration. Frustration is still part of the game here, and learning curve too, but for my tastes, very much within reason.

We ran into numerous infuriating bugs within the first 30 minutes.
Every time my friend loaded into the game it would spend 10 minutes recompiling shaders instead of caching them correctly.
Half the time when loading into the game the entire game and menu would be upside down??
When a coop member was reloading, their mag would glitch and appear 6 inches in front of the bullets.
The inventory is frustrating to use due to needing to crane your neck downwards to see the tiny mag pouches, and if you miss them by a millimeter your precious ammo just drops to the ground. Their body forward estimation isnt great either, if you look to side and then down, you'll end up looking at your chest instead of your bodies side, meaning you have to do the unnatural opposite movement of looking down and then over to your pistol or pouch.

I think a lot of the negative reviews come from people comparing this to the original game, and the fact that you have significant trade-offs if you decide to play one game over the other. ITR2 has co-op, but no one likes Lauri. ITR1 has the analog feel and the ramrod, but mods were officially not supported. Just examples.
I think ITR2 stands strong if you stop comparing it. I've personally never played anything close to as immersive as ITR1/ITR2, which puts them both very high on my list of favorite games, regardless of either of their flaws or shortcomings. Highly recommend you give this a try.

Its also just a great game. the exploration, finding a gun in the wild, getting a good loot hall, the loop is just so fun. The problems are still there from ITR1-1 , namely devs cant figure out how to throw a grenade but thats ok because they are uselessly weak. Second, good luck getting off a ladder. In addition lots of clumsiness with controls eg really tough to turn gun light to and from Infra Red mode. i started a run went for 27 hours taking my sweet time got to the point where it was time to go to zone 3 and the npc would not spawn...
tried playing more missions to see if i got my points desynced and that did not work + one of the missions kept spawning in the ground
finally i decided that i was going to restart and speed run 10min in and one of my mags i droped while reloding falls into the floor and is gone...
i wish this was a verry polished game but its not
they removed most of the aspects of itr1
they removed the game even being scary
removed to random teleporting via the radius wall
made the guns less detailed
ect.
and 1.0 they are still adding basic stuff
this 1.0 update feels verry unpolished and as if they where like ♥♥♥♥ we gotta get something out
they also fell short by a lot on what they promised for 1.0 like more than 2 player support
this doesn't even feel like the original into the raduis it feels like another game made by a less competent studio
i dont really feel like there is a way to save the game other than start from scratch unfortunately and where as itr1 made it seem as if the upnc was reacting to the radius this time it seems like they where expecting it and built this big base with half the areas still blocked off
TLDR: buy into the radius 1 not 2 if you want a less buggy experience and it to be a lot more fun. buy 2 if your done with itr1 and or wanting to play coop and don't mind the bugs

Performance wise, this game is a mess. Textures don't look as polished as it used to be in the first game, and OH GOSH, the game is not pc-friendly in terms of performance, especially with the way the game looks.
Strange and lonely vibes are gone, replaced with characters that are bland and out of place in the game's atmosphere.
Weapons are a huge plus in this one though. Customisation is truly PEAK and the variety is good. (Although a revolver would be great as a sidearm)
Multiplayer is a really nice touch, but it's missing some interactions, like a way to revive other players with equipments or syringes.
The game itself isn't bad, but I really think they missed out on major improvements and calling this a finished product is not what I expected. Wishing the devs the best to make this game worth the 50 CAD.
