Positives:
• Gameplay is very good, with a lot of features from previous AC games, and you can carry multiple special weapons, like Project Wingman.
• The campaign is very good, with 30 missions which is 10 more than AC7
• 10/10 Soundtrack per usual
• FOR me personally, I had no performance issues, but other people are having issues, so be wary.
• All of the Shadows/Lux Lunae themes are absolute bangers.

The game is a blast. Love the chaotic missions, the story (so far) and the soundtrack.
At first your plane feel a bit more sluggish in this one, but you get used to it quickly, and working your way up the aircraft tree will restore some of that agility you might have missed from AC7.
The performance of this game is pretty unfortunate, but with DLSS I was at least able to make it work for me. Currently running this game on all ultra, at 2560x1080, DLSS Quality and I'm able to maintain 60+ FPS most of the time (save for some cutscenes, which drop into the 50s, and while I'm doing strafing runs and have explosions in my face where it tends to drop lower than that for a couple of seconds).
RAM usage seems unreasonably high. The game hogs ~18GB on my system, which is kind of insane for any game, really. Might be a memory leak?
I'm glad Bandai Namco actually cares about ultrawide nowadays, cause this game is extra beautiful on the wider aspect ratio.
I recommend the game, but only if you have a beefy PC and aren't trying to run it in triple digit framerates.
P.S. It's really bizarre that Ace Combat Zero is just hard linked to a 140GB installation. I don't understand why they wouldn't just give it to us a separate app.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Not having much trouble running either on my distro HOWEVER on top of the insult that is Denuvo the Game has the first ever kernal level anit-cheat from bandai (Not even Tekken has it). And that means no multiplayer for linux users at all. Real shame. It's a choice to lock out linux users as well not a necessity.
Don't expect them to make it compatible with steam deck or machine in the future.
BTW just checked and their is already a cheating software up and running meaning it's all worthless to do this.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI've never written a proper review for a game before this, but since I love Ace Combat as a series since I was a little kid, I thought I want to write a review for this game right after finishing the 1st run of the campaign.
I wrote this review after just completing the campaign on Elite difficulty, so I won't really touch on Multiplayer etc. And I'm just writing what comes up on my mind so yeah, sorry if the review is a bit messy.
So, yeah this game is close to perfect Ace Combat game for me personally, mainly about the story and the gameplay. It ranks close to my childhood goats like the holy trinity, ACX etc.
Let's start with the positives. 1st, the story. Finally after not having great stories for Ace Combat in a long time. I can say that this game's story is very very good. I'm having a hard time trying to convey my feelings after completing the story because of my limited English but yeah. All around the story is very good imo, especially after what we've got last time with AC7's story (I love Trigger, Count, etc. but AC7's story is just bad imo, especially after playing this story). This story literally makes me care about most of the main characters across the story. Although at first I thought I won't care for some of them, but the game proved me wrong I guess.
2nd, the gameplay. NGL at the first flight, I was caught off guard with how much heavier the planes feel compared to previous AC games that I've played growing up. But as the time goes on, it kinda grew on me. The heaviness gave a new feeling while playing the game and making it feel more brand new in the gameplay part compared to previous games. Love that the command system is back, it probably help me care more about the characters compared if there wasn't a command and wingman system.
3rd positive, the soundtracks. Me personally, I love this game's soundtracks. Some people are not a fan of this game's soundtracks, but for me as always, Ace Combat never miss with the soundtracks. And this one is also the case.
Now for the negatives, well for me the negatives are with the performance, AC0 DLC, and some minor stuffs. Well at least for now. I might uncover more negatives after writing this review.
The performance, well I knew that the minimum spec requirement for this game was going to be kinda high for my PC, but holy hell IT IS HEAVY. Since I keep postponing on upgrading my GPU, I played this game on low preset with the spec of my PC. I really want to blame on the Ray Tracing etc. But I'm kinda partly to blame for not upgrading my GPU and resulting to me having not a great performance. I mean it's hovering mostly on 60 fps, but it doesn't look good. Like AC7 looks not that far off from this game and it runs so much better. Don't get me wrong, this game looks gorgeous, but so do AC7.
The 2nd negative, WHY DOES MY AC0 acts as a DLC. IDK WHY THEY BASICALLY LIED TO OUR FACE THAT THE GAME WAS GOING TO BE A SEPERATE APP, NOW THEY'RE BEING BAKED IN AS AN DLC WITH THE MAIN GAME INSTEAD. BANDAI NAMCO, PLS FIX.
They're some minor gripes that I could think of while writing this review. Like why are we bringing back the Assault Horizon slo mo things? When I saw it the first time, I was worried, thank God they didn't go overboard with it. I know it's so minor. But I'm trying to find things to complaint at this point.
For now, that's all with my small review for the game. I'll continue to enjoy the game. I'm planning to do the Ace difficulty after writing this review. Hopefully Bandai Namco will fix some or all of the gripes that I have with the game. But yeah this game is going to my top 5 at least of my favorite AC titles of all time. If the games gets the fix that it need. It might touch the top 3 since campaign wise and the gameplay wise. This game is perfect for me. But sadly my weak PC kinda hinder the experience that I had with the game. Maybe I should upgrade my PC, BUT THE PRICES ;(

3rd positive, the soundtracks. Me personally, I love this game's soundtracks. Some people are not a fan of this game's soundtracks, but for me as always, Ace Combat never miss with the soundtracks. And this one is also the case.
Now for the negatives, well for me the negatives are with the performance, AC0 DLC, and some minor stuffs. Well at least for now. I might uncover more negatives after writing this review.
The performance, well I knew that the minimum spec requirement for this game was going to be kinda high for my PC, but holy hell IT IS HEAVY. Since I keep postponing on upgrading my GPU, I played this game on low preset with the spec of my PC. I really want to blame on the Ray Tracing etc. But I'm kinda partly to blame for not upgrading my GPU and resulting to me having not a great performance. I mean it's hovering mostly on 60 fps, but it doesn't look good. Like AC7 looks not that far off from this game and it runs so much better. Don't get me wrong, this game looks gorgeous, but so do AC7.
The 2nd negative, WHY DOES MY AC0 acts as a DLC. IDK WHY THEY BASICALLY LIED TO OUR FACE THAT THE GAME WAS GOING TO BE A SEPERATE APP, NOW THEY'RE BEING BAKED IN AS AN DLC WITH THE MAIN GAME INSTEAD. BANDAI NAMCO, PLS FIX.
They're some minor gripes that I could think of while writing this review. Like why are we bringing back the Assault Horizon slo mo things? When I saw it the first time, I was worried, thank God they didn't go overboard with it. I know it's so minor. But I'm trying to find things to complaint at this point.
For now, that's all with my small review for the game. I'll continue to enjoy the game. I'm planning to do the Ace difficulty after writing this review. Hopefully Bandai Namco will fix some or all of the gripes that I have with the game. But yeah this game is going to my top 5 at least of my favorite AC titles of all time. If the games gets the fix that it need. It might touch the top 3 since campaign wise and the gameplay wise. This game is perfect for me. But sadly my weak PC kinda hinder the experience that I had with the game. Maybe I should upgrade my PC, BUT THE PRICES ;(
Should you play this game? YESSSSS YESSSS AND YESSS. 10/10 (FOR ME EVEN WITH THE PROBLEMS)

There is nothing MKB and controller players will lose if hotas support was available. Hell I think you guys would get better control anyway. But it's the immersion for me and many others and this game failed to deliver.

Day 1 jitters and bugs aside (there's a fair amount but I trust they will be fixed with time), I've quite enjoyed it so far. The gameplay is smooth, a bit less snappy than AC7 but it rewards positioning and momentum management more. A lot of influence from Project Wingman in the feel of the game.
Monetization: 2 tiered Battlepass, Loot Boxes, and real world money to premium in game currency. The Morgan is extremely dominant over the starter planes, and I assume is dominating the PvP scene (I've been playing the PvE as I don't paticuarly care for PvP in games). However, nothing seems to be hostile to F2Ps, and the grind seems entirely manageable for anyone who isn't going to shell out cash. I'd say 7/10, depends how it is in a year really.
The AC0 Stuff is obviously not optimal with the steam release (you need to have AC8 installed to play it), however I understand this has to do with legal issues? Aircraft licensing is rough (RIP to the Tornado). However, AC0 is a worth-it part of the pre-order no matter what. It's Time.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI'd say dont buy into the hype wait a few more patches before getting, I se alot of complain about ACZ not being a complete separate game, that is annoying but it's not why I'm here for.
Pretty sure a handful of us got into the hype and not see the "pretty high" spec requirement even at minimum, mainly I'd blame it on the newer Unreal engine being a pretty unoptimized mess and so is the game itself too being a solid 150GB, here's a few annoying thing, forced "frame gen" and forced ray tracing, things at the bare labeled spec probably cant handle we remember how bad rat tracing and frame generation for the RX6000 are for, it's "better" for RX7000 but still less ideal if you HAVE power budget these days.
Honestly recommend option to turn these off and use the legacy rendering since they still look pretty at "low". Also the cutscenes somehow always runs the GPU to near max least on my 6700XT at a constant >95% usage keeping it at a too tropical toasty 75C.
Next point, Easy Anti Cheat (ugh), here we got the worst of the worst, though we all remember how popular AC7 got more or less the amount of mods people made for it, thanks to the fact there is no anti cheat even on the online lobby which times you'd encounter a hacker here or there, but for AC8 anti cheat likely will prevent modding and actually useful heavier tweaking to the graphics settings like disabling raytracing or replacing 16k texture for a more reasonable 2k-ish ones etcetc. I'd appreciate ACO and AC8 being separate installs or entities in the game files than forcing anti chaton singleplayer game cause yeah for single player game we'll cheat here and there, a little mod or ALOT, I know I would for MRP/unlocks.
Game needs to be labeled with what anti cheat it uses and I'd really like ACO to be an actual separate game instead of mostly build into AC8 like with MGSV and MGSO
Overall the game is still pretty the gameplay is fun, ACO still got network bugs to fix through. But there are still issue with the engine with HIGH resource usage and ACO and AC8 needs to be separate entity due to anti cheat.

From what I can gather on my end, it eats up anything that's available RAM wise.
The more RAM I cleared up on my laptop, the more AC8 would take it, until there was nothing left except a few 100 mb left. Obviously this caused problems, everything became very "sluggish", including the game itself.
Framerate was hovering around 30 FPS or so as well, at Ultra (see below for specs), from the very first cutscene of the game (Intro). Sometimes dipping into the mid 20s. I imagine my system having only a spare 100-200 MBs of RAM didn't help this situation at all lol
I got to about 19,346 MB used by Ace Combat 8. Laptop would hover around 31.8-9 GB RAM used.
A refund has been requested.
Extremely unfortunate, I was really looking forward to playing this. Guess I'll just get this when it goes on sale inevitably within a year or so. Ain't no way I'm gonna pay full price (paid more actually, 90 bucks! cause what can I say, I love Ace Combat) for this game ever again.

Your wingmen are fantastic and actually feel alive in the air battles. Is the game a spectacle, yes it is. But my god the performance is abysmal. I have a pretty good PC and struggle to hold a solid 80FPS. This game is sadly victim to UE5, Denuvo, and EAC. I would stay away until Denuvo is disabled. If there are some magic driver updates that come out and fix this I will change my review.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The game is not worth $80 dollars to preorder. It's barely $40 in its current state.

The game requires you to install AC 8 just to play it, and this has more repercussions. Consoles don't have this issue. Choose wisely if your pre-order is mostly based off of being able to get AC Zero.
I will post my thoughts regarding the main game later, but I want highlight something regarding Ace Combat Zero (the pre-order bonus), which might affect some people's decision on whether to pre-order this game just to get Ace Combat Zero on Steam.
Ace Combat Zero does not show up as a separate game in your Steam library. It only comes up as a DLC option under Ace Combat 8. It's not integrated to Ace Combat 8 itself and installs in a separate folder under the main game. So you can launch it separately without launching Ace Combat 8 (by using Steam launch options or by clicking the .exe file in the installed folder), but you still need to install Ace Combat 8 to access Ace Combat Zero.
This is a baffling decision. Especially considering that Both PlayStation and Xbox versions of Ace Combat Zero (the pre-order bonus version) show up as separate games in their respective libraries with its own trophies/achievements. And I believe Steam already has the functionality to allow implementing this (pre-order bonus game showing up as a new game entry), but Bandai Namco seems to have chosen not to do that for Steam.
So this mean that;
- You need to download and install a 137GB+ sized game (Ace Combat 8 download size) just to play a 3.2GB sized one (Ace Combat Zero download size).
- Steam version of Ace Combat Zero doesn't have achievements or cloud saves, but console versions do.
- Ace Combat Zero doesn't show up as a separate game entry in your library, but rather hidden under the DLC section of Ace Combat 8.
- You playtime, screenshots, guides, review, and all other community contributions for Ace Combat Zero are tracked under Ace Combat 8. Not as its own entry.
I'm grateful to finally get to play the official PC version of supposedly one of the best games in the series, but it's incredibly disappointing to see how it has been implemented on Steam. This issue seems to be only happening for PC version, and console versions of Ace Combat Zero are properly implemented.
