The best part is the dual-class system and the massive Devotion tree—you can combine any two classes to test out crazy combos, and the build variety is just insane.

You'll need to min-max your gear to cap your resistances and squeeze in enough resistance reduction (RR) to hurt enemies. I've bounced off of it 3 different times now, across a few years total. The problem I have with it every time is that there's such an information overload with the character screen, it's super unclear what the attributes are there for, the skill allocation system is funky, the constellation thing feels like it has no direction.

Boss health has been buffed to make them not fall over in seconds. Okay, great. But now they also really like to oneshot your character. Or perma freeze you for a minute because you have about a billion different resists to feed and that's on like 3 items.
You're playing a constant game of evading and trying to get in for a hit sometimes and Sunder does not make this better. I want to play an aRPG not a bad soulslike clone (and souls games usually only kill you if you're running a low level into a dangerous area).

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tIf, like me, you grew up playing Diablo 2 on the PC, then you'll greatly enjoy Grim Dawn for its gameplay loop and the overall dark, horror setting and environments. Giant bugs to crush, zombies to slay, and so many other awful nightmares lurking in the shadows that you get to destroy in the pursuit of helping others. While I do greatly enjoy the lore in D2, I think what Grim Dawn does very well is give you story beats incrementally in a way that makes it easy to follow. There are pages to collect that reveal details and flesh out the world you're exploring, NPCs along the way who expand upon what you've already learned to uncover hidden truths, and ultimately, it feels deeper this way because you're never just rushing from one town to the next.
I'm not terribly good at plumbing the depths of character development in terms of skill trees and the like. I play a Shaman and I admittedly don't know if I'm doing it right, but I have a whole lot of fun with her and no trouble killing bosses. There's a very forgiving learning curve on classes and skills.
Performance wise, my PC is a bit older, but the game runs splendidly on it at full graphics. I haven't noticed any significant delay or stuttering, nor issues with things not loading or lagging.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Don't bother with my little Steam game time, I've played this game for so many hours n days off Steam n my main character is a lv64 Witch Hunter.
Crate used Titan Quest's cool engine n then built an amalgamation of some of the most interesting n badass themes: weird west mixed with lovecraft, occult, steampunk n a sprinkle of turkish jinn like horror. Then to make it even better, they made the game feel more grounded n somewhat down to earth in an eerie way.
The aetherials for example are a very interesting concept. You don't exactly fight them head on, you don't even understand what they really are most of the game. They're not just some demons. Most of the game, you're just fighting their vessels which are living or dead humans n other organisms meanwhile the aetherials themselves feel untouchable. Like the fact you already lost to them before even beginning the game.
You can definitely see their catastrophic effect on the game's world n the most beautiful part about it is they bring this ruin with humans' hands like what you might see in some port if you ever reach it.
That brings us to one of the strongest points within the game, IMO. The lore n how connected it is to the game's atmosphere. Much of the lore is through notes you loot alongside environmental story telling a bit like how Fromsoft games roll for example but GD has its very own nice touch to that like for example there is a series of lore notes that you collect in a region full of wendigos n the game doesn't shy when it comes to grotesque n cruel details.
The most horrifying part about the game is it feels so made of human horror rather than fantasy. Some parts dare I say feel rather poetic.
The factions are very well designed n they feel very lively. You'll see each having their own missions n goals n they fight amongst each other. Even enemy factions would fight against each other sometimes while you're around emphasizing how hostile they are to each other despite of you. Grimdawn's world is one that's already moving without you. The game world is moving you not otherwise eventhough you do have some choices n they do have quite an impact some time but there is an overall feel of lovecraftian nihilism within the game that no matter what you do n no matter how stronger you get, you feel very small n your enemies still remain mostly veiled in mystery.
Its not a fight against some demons. The game is a fight against the humanself n the unknown n that, IMO, is what makes it dreadfully beautiful.
The game is full of secrets n exploration is very very rewarding. There are even difficult secret bosses. The build variety is amazing. Its not Torchlight's level of simple nor Path of Exile's level of complex. Its that sweet spot inbetweener.
As mentioned before, choices do exist n they can be very impactful. Some even dictate whether your actions bring ruin to a whole settlement or not. There are lots of intrigues n plot twists when it comes to world's events.
While the game's engine is an old one, its artstyle n direction make it a graphical dark beauty to date if you ask me.
The voice acting is pretty cool as well, many NPCs have a nostalgic feel about them. Don't go in expecting a Deckard Cain but some NPCs may stick out with you like John Bourbon, The Warden n Darius Cronley.
And since we mentioned The Warden. This guy is ruthless type of scary specially with the environmental n lore notes build up before that. I believe he's a bit influenced by Diablo's Butcher but done better since this guy is not just interested in a sadist hunt but way worse.
Overall, the game is a narrative masterpiece n it doesn't do all of it with words but lots with visual cues as well.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI've had Grim Dawn in my library for what has to be a decade now. Finally decided to take a shot at playing an ARPG without a guide to see if my brain still works. For the first time in my time playing ARPG's i'm not bum rushing to end game so I can hit one button for 1000 hours. I'm experimenting with builds, making new characters and only very occasionally looking up things when im trying to find a way to make a build work. A game that has me hooked now that i've given it a real shot and I am so happy the game is still getting support after all this time. I doubt theres very many fans of ARPG's who havent given this game a shot, but for those of you like me who have been sleeping on this game, please give it a shot. Let your creativity run wild. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI've played a good amount over the years, and the newest DLC is probably some of the most fun I've had in the game. I know difficulty is a touchy subject in games, so I'll try to explain where some of the playerbase's friction is coming from.
For a long time, Grim Dawn was a walking simulator where even a bosses' deadliest attacks could often be facetanked. With Fangs of Asterkarn, this is not really the case anymore outside of specialized tank builds. I don't think this is a bad thing. The game's identity has changed slightly, but not enough to warrant concern imo. Right now, Grim Dawn is still super beginner friendly, and you can play whatever class combo you want as long as you build into your damage type and don't ignore your defenses.
Yes, if you choose to play on harder difficulties early, you might have to kite a bit and maybe even leave an encounter to return later when you're stronger. Again, not a bad thing. If for whatever reason difficulty is still a concern, the upcoming 1.3.1 patch is set to nerf enemies at the highest difficulty even more while increasing the amount of rewards you get. Nothing wrong with waiting until 2027 to get more content patches in the live branch either.
No matter what, this will be a valuable pickup for any offline ARPG enjoyer for years to come.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I only just started Ultimate after beating the main game without any DLC yet. Now I'm really looking forward to beating it so I can start on all of the DLC!!

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAfter playing through the new Asterkarn update on Ultimate difficulty I have to give this update a negative review. The Nemesis system is absolutely MORONIC. I'm literally blocked from improving my character because every time I want to do a more serious dungeon some Nemesis boss spawns in it and wrecks my character. I don't know what bad drugs the developers were doing when designing this system but clearly they didn't realize it would make the game UNPLAYABLE in many situations.
What's worse is these Nemesis bosses specialize in attacking me in tight dungeons, they run several times faster than me, they don't get frozen or slowed and every time they kill me their health pops back up to 100%. So you're telling me if I want to do a dungeon I better turn the game off and on multiple times until I get a run without a nemesis boss? Except that doesn't work either because the sheer number of monsters in some of the dungeons will DEFINITELY trigger a Nemesis spawn.
What's worse is these Nemesis mobs are BADLY overtuned so that they easily 1-shot me at 15K hp (apparently you need over 20K to have a decent change of killing them in Ultimate). So really it doesn't even matter how well I play given they're unstoppable, 1-shot me and immediately regen to full health upon my death.
For an ARPG this is some of the WORST game design I have ever come across and by itself ruins what would otherwise be a fun experience.
P.S.: I have 700 hours in the game and still haven't seen a Hagarradian Enforcer drop (the cold guns I need to make my build endgame worthy). Apparently pistols are some of the rarest drops and there's no way to farm them or craft them (except if you get lucky and the blueprint for them drops).
Why can't you make loot at least PARTIALLY wield-based, particularly in Ultimate?
I don't want to use save editors to make this game fun, at that point I'd rather not play it anymore.
