I waited a long time for the price of this game to get cheap enough for me to buy it, as I was only interested in playing the solo campaign and had no interest in any of the multiplayer features, so this review is very much just about the campaign experience.

I have read quite a few reviews that say that the campaign gets stale fast, with it mostly being due to its repetitiveness and gameplay style. I however don't fully agree with that and after completing the campaign it only left me hungry for more.

I would define the campaign as a slow paced and heavy hack-and-slash third-person shooter that overall feels pretty relaxing to play. The sit back experience is definitely due to you playing in a squad with two other unkillable ultra marines throughout almost all of the campaign, and these two buddies of yours, Sergeant Gadriel and Brother Chairon are really good at staying in combat and soaking up all the damage while you just sit back killing the elites. I however quite liked this, as it to me was more exciting to fight the elite forces on my own while my squad members too care of the weak hoards of cannon fodder.

In this campaign, you fight against two different enemy types, the Tyranids and the Thousand Sons (Chaos Space Marines who worship Tzeentch). The first half of the campaign is all about endless hordes of Tyranids and then it slowly switches into all about beating the Tzeentch worshipping traitor legion. I found the second half of the game to be a lot easier than the first half, but I'm not sure if it was because I just got better as I got further into the game or if it is because better weapon choices became available and that the forces of Tzeentch were just over all less aggressive than the Tyranid hoards, but I was in a lot less melee fights nearing the end of the game.

I really liked the story they told throughout the campaign and I think they captured the feel and style of 40k quite well, especially the cinematic cutscenes were phenomenal and just fueled my desire for a full blown animated 40k series even more. It took me around 8 hours to finish the campaign with watching all cutscenes and I played on medium difficulty, which was definitely too easy, so I recommend playing on hard and above, it should be doable for most people. On medium difficulty I only fell down twice and both times I fell because I wasn’t paying attention, so medium difficulty is really easy.

What I missed the most from this campaign though is more customization options. There is the Armoury Hall, where you can customise your space marines weapon loadout before every mission, but that is pretty much it. There are no visual upgrades or customizable armor pieces other than like 1 or 2 skin choices that I think you have to own DLC to use. I like character customization in all my games, so this is definitely what I missed the most.

I only played a few hours of the campaign from the first game but I never completed it, so whether or not the campaigns are of similar length or quality I can't say, but I quite enjoyed this one and I think it was worth the 10 bucks I paid for it on sale.

But about a month ago, devs pushed a hotfix (14.2 I think) that made the game crash every 20 minutes or so, making it impossible to complete a mission. Game is now unplayable for me. I play on Bazzite/SteamOS. I have over 150 hours in this game with basically no issues until now. The linux community has isolated the cause of the bug to be a shader cache overflow within the game engine. This isn't a problem with my computer specifically, and it affects everyone playing on any form of linux.

People have reached to to Saber Interactive support about it, and they just respond with a generic message saying to ♥♥♥♥ off and not use Linux. Instead of just passing the message along to the devs and letting them take 10 minutes to fix it.

DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU USE A STEAM DECK, STEAM MACHINE, STEAM FRAME, OR ANY VARIANT OF LINUX.

Every crash is consistent with all the other crashes I've had before.
It's always caused by a texture streaming overrun.

D3D12 games use "scratch buffers" as temporary GPU-side workspace for certain operations. vkd3d-proton pools and reuses these buffers rather than allocating fresh ones every time, and it logs a "high water mark" warning whenever the number of buffers simultaneously in flight (i.e., allocated but not yet returned/freed) hits a new peak it hasn't seen before.

A large enemy encounter or swarm moment triggered a burst of GPU-driven work and needed more scratch buffer space than what was available is my plausible guess. \n\t\t\t\t\tDespite having logged many hours in this game, I am leaving a negative review because, looking back at the whole experience, it is a game that is 50% excellent while the rest can be disregarded due to terrible design. I hope this serves as food for thought for the community and the developers, given that we will likely see a *Space Marine 3*. When I say half the experience is good, it is because the game essentially features only two factions, and only one of them works satisfactorily: the Tyranids. Their attacks are clear, and their mechanics are fair and learnable, with viable counters available within the player's offensive and defensive toolkit. The other faction—Chaos—is a mess of stun-locking, hard-to-read movements, teleportation, and an excess of cheap mechanics. In this regard, the game offers many fun and challenging missions centered on one faction, while the rest are often ruined by waves of enemies that drain all your defenses, parries, and blocks through spam, randomness, and teleportation. Ultimately, for fans of the franchise, it is worth trying because the production quality is excellent and it advances the story; however, it is evident that the developers never sought to balance the two factions to ensure a good player experience. Quite the opposite: with every decision, they managed to make the Chaos faction even more annoying, tedious, and "cheap." Hopefully, they will fix this in the third installment. Edit: I forgot to mention that the game's connection system is terrible, especially during sieges; it disconnects you and kicks you back to the main screen, causing you to lose all your progress. This happened to me so many times that I stopped playing that mode.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tI purchased this game 2 odd years ago on release after playing Space Marine extensively and really enjoying it. On starting up and getting in to the first mission, I found on my 5120x1440 ultrawide that the aspect ratio was hopelessly restricted (I could see from the top of Titus head to his belt).

A fix was promised after a number of people made a fuss about it, so I put the game aside to wait for the fix. The fix came, a FOV bar, and now I could see from Titus head to his knees... I tried to play it, but it was still not good enough to play the game. So I refunded and despite being outside the week since purchase and over the 2 hours played, Steam permitted the refund.

2 years on, we have a sale and a bunch of patches, so I decide to give it a whirl again. Still unfixed, the FOV aspect is basically unplayable. After a brief search, I've found that some mad lad has created a mod PAK that enables the camera to go beyond the limit of the FOV slider and low and behold, TITUS HAS FEET! Better than that, I can clearly see around him, parry enemies etc.

Except the mod file = all online content is blocked because it could be cheating... Seriously.

This is such a ridiculous fumble. A simple configuration fix that anyone can do, but the developers refuse to just add it to the game for.. reasons? If you run any sort of ultrawide setup, don't give these guys your money because they do not respect you.\t\t\t\t\t

What is the point of having important story information be shown on hologram screens in cutscenes, if the pov camera that's supposed to show it, is pointed somewhere else. It's like the camera operator has an extreme case of ADHD and just starts looking everywhere else, except for the damn screen with information on it, that you HAVE to read/look at to understand what the f* is going on.

Oh and you know those Space Marine brothers that are with you? Yeah they just dissapear sometimes. You end up either finding them walking in place, or staring into a wall like it's their first time seeing one. Before anyone throws a fit, I know they teleport when you keep going without them, but that doesn't excuse how silly it is to have this issue after so long.

Also, who was the cheese brain who thought dataslates did not need subtitles? Like why the hell can you have subtitles on things that the game doesn't even deem necessarry for the story. But when it comes to information on what has happened on the worlds you are on, you don't need it.

To be honest, it's pretty bold to try and compete with companies like EA on who can break their game after launch the most. But that's what you get when you also have an incompetent CEO who would gladly charge you for every step you take in the game, if he could.\t\t\t\t\t

It's also frustrating to see them consistently lock PVE unlocks behind PVP when the games PVP is lack luster and barely supported at best. Not to mention just the overall toxicity in a large part of the community.

Even more annoying to me are how scummy they're starting to get with monetizing things. Like Twitch drops now requiring subs when they were supposed to be doing away with the FOMO stuff altogether. I pre-ordered the Ultra Edition of this game, with 272 hours played. The Tactical class is the reason I put in these 270+ hours, and it was also the first class I maxed out. The launch version of Tactical was the core reason I kept playing this game for so long.

Saber marketed patch 15.0 as a rework for Tactical, but it is nothing more than a massive nerf. This heavy-handed nerf is a betrayal to players. Before the patch, the Auspex scan could stack up to 300% damage bonus. After the update, the bonus cannot even reach 100%. Saber has killed the Tactical class. The Tactical we have now is not the Tactical we once knew.

If Tactical can be gutted like this, there is no guarantee that other classes will not suffer the same fate in future updates.

Before this patch, the developer repeatedly nerfed Tactical across multiple updates. Patch 4.0 cut the Auspex damage bonus and melt bomb. Patches 13 & 14 reduced flame burn damage and broke established build synergies. The 15.0 update completely erased the main build I spent hundreds of hours refining.

The base game now sells for only 60-70 RMB, while I paid more than six times that price for the ultra pre-order edition. My pre-order purchase and 272 hours of playtime prove my love for this game, yet the developer betrayed its pre-order customers.

I kept playing this game because of the gameplay and class mechanics available at launch. The repeated, sweeping nerfs to my main class have destroyed the playstyle I invested hundreds of hours into. The game I loved playing no longer exists.

开发商Saber对外宣称15.0补丁是战术兵天赋重做，但这根本不是平衡性调整，本质是完完全全的大幅度削弱，这种粗暴的削弱是对玩家的背叛。改动前，战术兵鸟卜仪扫描最高可以叠加300%增伤；补丁更新之后，这套增伤上限连100%都达不到。Saber杀死了战术这个职业，现在的战术兵已经不是以前的战术兵了。

既然战术兵可以遭到这样的削弱，那谁也不能保证以后其他职业不会落到同样的下场。
在此之前，开发商就已经在多个版本持续削弱战术兵：4.0补丁削弱鸟卜仪增伤、热熔炸弹；13、14版本下调焚焰枪燃烧伤害，废掉成熟的武器构筑联动。15.0的更新，直接移除了我几百小时打磨、赖以游玩的核心输出玩法。

现在游戏基础版售价仅六七十元，而我当初预购终极版，付出了超过现价六倍的价格。预购终极版与272小时的游玩，足以证明我曾经对这款游戏满怀热爱，但游戏厂商背叛了预购玩家。

我当初持续游玩这款游戏，是因为游戏首发时的职业机制与游戏体验。开发商后续持续性、颠覆性地削弱核心职业，直接摧毁了我喜爱的这套玩法，当初支撑我游玩的内容已经不复存在。\t\t\t\t\t
