I know a lot of older people praise games like mother or chrono trigger and how they often think back on them lovingly. I like to think Kingdoms of the Dump is that for me. The characters are charming, the music is pretty good, the gameplay is fun, the story is captivating, many side quests and stories. Its all around an awesome game! Now yes, as some others have said, there are some problems. Graphical glitches here and there and the platforming can be annoying sometimes because of this being a 2D top down game (the devs will be releasing an update). But other than that, I cannot really find a reason for someone to not play this game, unless you don't like turn-based RPGs. I'm not a huuuge fan of the genre (I have only played Super Mario 64 and Earthbound) but I still had a blast! Highly recommend it.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There's so much on the map that FELT like it would be a cool thing later, that I never figured out. Roach Games, you've earned a fan for life.

Aesthetically, the game has wonderful pixel art and the soundtrack is probably my favourite from any game i have played so far. Combat is relatively simple but there is plenty of depth in character choices/builds to keep it interesing all throughout. The dialogue is well written with the tone being generally cheerful, though it is more than capable of being serious when the need rises. This extends to th story, which while not anything that will blow you away, I remained invested in the characters and plot the entire time.
As for stumbling, the game takes a dip in quality in its final chapter. It is here where you are given more freedom to explore the world and you quickly realize as you find destinations and complete sidequests that some content is unfinished. This inludes a couple of broken quests, many zones and items that are never used, some abilities appear to not be unlockable, and a dip in level design for some sidequest and mandatory dungeons. Crashes were rare, happening only 3 times in my playthrough, but save points are frequent enough such that I never lost more than a couple minutes of progress. Despite such issues, I greatly enjoyed the game and achieved 100% completion.

I love dedication to the whole bit what would trash can value for food? Sentient tables and chairs being prideful and arrogant the rudix cude being a key to everything. So many time I am floored of the work the have done visually and story wise.
I have not finished the game yet but I felt it deserved me praise.

Good 👍 it functions as it should be. A cross between crono trigger and whatever strategy RPG you like plus any FF Snes games battle system combo.
I expected it to get brutally hard later down the line but...still fun.

Several maps later in the story of the game have several places that haven't been smoothed out. rough edges of exploration that were clipping the character. thankfully they put in place an unstuck button in the menu which was nice. still plenty of weird clipping in and out of several different places for exploration and maps that they had created. The beginning of the story of the game and maps that you explore through were perfectly done. just the later to mid and probably the ending have all these constant issues. Nothing was really stopping gameplay it was just a little bit immersion breaking.
All this to say for the price and time and enjoyment you get out of this 8.5/10

Once upon a time the Lands of Fill, the great Garbamesh travelled along with his trusty scribe Bookworm to unite the many kingdoms and save the Lands of Fill from the toxic green waste. After successfully eliminating the threat, they locked away the powerful artifacts they had used except for one: the 8-Ball that helped them see the future. Garbamesh went on to be king of Garbagia, with Bookworm, Fuschia, and the other party members eventually becoming leaders of other groups like the Bookkeepers, the Laundromancers, and so on.
It has been many years since then, with King Globespin now sitting upon the throne. Yet on the morning of Dustin's ceremony to go from being a squire to a knight, the escaped bug convict Rutilius crashes the party and abducts the king, setting of the crisis that begins the game proper. All while Dustin is still asleep in his home, late for his own ceremony after drinking too much curdled milk and reading comics the night before.
Kingdoms of the Dump has a lot of charm with its anthropmorphized characters and the theming of kingdoms and cultures where people are different kinds of trash, clothing, and furniture, along with catfolk, dogfolk, bugfolk, and ratfolk. Almost everyone and every place has a punny name based on the kind of thing they are, which keeps the game mostly lighthearted between the major story beats.
The style is pixelated in the way the classic SNES and Sega Genesis games were, particularly JRPG's like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. The combat is turn based, with the ability to time strikes and blocks for a bonus like in Super Mario RGP or more recently, Clair Obscur. There's also a 3x3 grid of square tiles for movement in combat so fighting on the frontline or backline has an effect on the damage you give and take. This combination of mechanics is a nice twist on turn-based combat, and give it just enough depth without needing to look up guides to understand the tactics.
There is a tight cast of six core party members, each of which have some unique things they can do that help them traverse and interact with the Lands of Fill, making the game easier to explore as your party fills out. Dustin can convert specific metal objects into Scrap, the games shared "mana" pool that the whole party uses for their skills and spells. Ratavia moves quickly and can climb vines and pipes. Musk uses pheromones to disguise himself as other people. Walker can use his gun to stun enemies out in the wild, flip distant switches, and falls slowly when platforming allowing him to traverse wider gaps. Cerulean can use laundromancy to create up to five bubbles at a time that can be used as bouncing platforms. Lute can even use his string to grapple towards other platforms and objects. You only have access to a trio at a time for most of the game, so there are often treasures scattered about earlier maps that you will only be able to reach later on using another characters abilities, so don't worry too much about unreachable treasures until you have an airship that can fly you anywhere you want.
Most issues and gripes with the game are easily addressable, resulting in only occasional minor annoyances that need to be addressed by backtracking or reloading. The inventory limits you to having at most 10 copies of a single item, which can result in leaving treasure chests behind because you have no more room for something. This isn't an issue for most of the game if you just sell off items once you have more than 7 or 8 copies of it, but there's an end game side-quest involving repairing Garbagia where this issue is heavily exacerbated. There are also missable side-quests if you progress through the main questline too quickly, although there should be more than enough to still be able to get the 25 side quests done achievement even if you miss a few of them. Even if you get stuck on some scenery, the game has an Unstuck option in the menu.
