\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tIt truly pains me to leave this review. I absolutely love this game and truly want what is best for it. I played this game during the early access and ever since, the game state has just been going downhill. As of right now, there are way too many frustrating mechanics: header/rainbow spamming, keepers holding onto the ball seemingly forever, keepers diving out of the box to pick the ball up, and a lack of forced urgency while on attack.
I doubt the devs will see this review, but I have ideas that would fix all of these issues:
1. Header/rainbow spamming
Make it so using headers/rainbows to keep the ball in the air takes a significant amount of stamina like the fake shot mechanic does. This will make it feel more reasonable to defend against and still rewards players who can use it at an appropriate time.
2. Keepers holding onto the ball
I have no problems with the mechanic when a keeper saves a shot from the other team. What frustrates me and a large amount of the player base is keepers being able to pick it up from a pass from their teammates. This just further pushes the meta of scoring a single goal and then just passing it around so the other team can't do anything. I think to fix this, we should look at the sport this is based on and copy that. If your teammate passes you the ball, then the keeper cannot pick it up with their hands.
3. Keepers diving out of the box
This one is really frustrating to play against since it is so counter-intuitive to the real-world sport. A simple fix for this would be to make it so instead of the keeper picking the ball up outside the box it is more like a diving header that clears the ball or a slide tackle or something of the sort. Anything but the keeper diving out of the box to pick it up with their hands. I think this would balance that mechanic because it still allows keepers to be a little bit more of a sweeper but as an attacker you could still punish that style of play.
4. Forced attacks
This take might be a little more controversial, but I think this game would heavily benefit from some form of shot-clock like in basketball. As of right now, many teams/players just sit as the goalkeeper and wait for somebody to challenge them instead of pushing to score goals (what this game is arguably about). I am not sure exactly what the time frame would be like but along the lines of roughly 30 seconds for a team to develop some form of attack/play and get a shot. What this looks like in my mind is when you have the ball there is a perimeter around the goal (~2-3 feet away from the posts/crossbar) and within the timeframe you have to have the ball shot within that area using the shot or pass mechanic. If you can't get the ball in that area or score within the timeframe the other team acquires possession in some format (not sure about how that would work yet). I think this would help the game further push their desired fast tempo style gameplay and would result in more competitive matches overall.
Anyways, this game has SO much potential, but right now too many of these frustrating mechanics/metas are holding it back from greatness. This game used to be one of the very few games that actually felt smooth mechanically. It used to be a game that rewarded you for the time you put in. It used to be one of the most beautiful games for self expression I'd ever played. I would meet new people constantly, and through the game's mechanics I could see their personality expressed in game in a way that I've never seen in any other game. Different people were good at different things, and the game was so balanced that they could do so without having an unfair advantage. It felt like the game had soul to it. While the cosmetics were lacking in some departments they had a distinct finish that felt original. When you saw a screenshot you could instantly tell what game it was. It was literally perfect. Peak experience seasons 0 to 4, but alas it's all over.
Rather than adding new buttons or buffing defense, they decided to butcher the game mechanics themselves. All the flow the game had is gone. It feels like an early beta piece of ♥♥♥♥ brick. All the animations are clunky and the previously polished magnet systems have been completely skinned, which now makes skilled passing no longer viable. In the esports scene there's a strategy referred to as "prio ball" which abuses the game mechanics and makes it essentially impossible to defend against volley shots, and due to the magnet changes it is now the only viable strategy, leaving the game an empty husk of what it once was. Rather than respond to communtiy feedback and remove exploitative dribble tech they nerfed base dribble mechanics to the point that the only form of dribbling left is the very exploitative tech that was being complained about in the first place. The cosmetics are meh, the people that have come to the game all think they are the main character of an anime and refuse to play the game as intended (ball hogging, shooting from way outside the box, etc.), and the changes to the goalkeeper dive do not feel great to me.
Obviously, they can't just remove cosmetics or tell the new people to stop playing, so I don't expect those problems to go away until the Bluelock-ers get bored. But for the keeper changes, might i suggest making the long dive the default, with the short being the dive that requires extra input (even just making this an option in the settings would be great). or making it so tapping the dive is short, but holding is long. In either case, more options for how we can use both dives would be appreciated.
The usual suspects are still problems IMO:

also teammates suck sometimes because they just want to look cool and never pass the ball, which mostly ends up with your team losing.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI can't recommend the game in the state it's in. The mechanics are fun, but the battlepass system is straight up an insult to the time of their playerbase. You have to play 5 games for 1 token (25+ minutes), and eventually one tier costs 5 tokens so you have to grind for 2+ HOURS to unlock 1 TIER. The progression is such a disrespectful grindfest, that I feel insulted. The developers expect their players to be playing Rematch 24/7 it seems. The game is fun, but not THAT fun. As long as they have this disrespectful system, I can't recommend the game at all. I missed out on better opportunities because I thought this was achievable until I found out it just isn't. I'm 52+ hours in and I'm not even close to finishing the battlepass. Can you imagine that? A terrible progression system and I've never felt this bad about progressing in a game. Seen bluelock collab coming and was very excited and counted the days down for when it came.
