\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI'm not gonna mince words. Blasphemous 2 is easily one of the best games I've played in my life. I was already incredibly impressed with the first game and somehow the sequel is even better, in my opinion.
First of all, this game is massive. The base map already has a ton of content but then there's also the Third Sin DLC which is basically a huge love letter to Symphony Of The Night.
The combat is slower paced, more methodical. You have to pay attention to the animations, immunity frames. Mashing won't get you anywhere. Once you have a few more combat options then you can be a little bit more reckless but it still doesn't mean it's a walk in the park. I died in the sequel a lot more than in the first game.
The art is absolute peak. The OST is filled with bangers. The NPC's are interesting. Voice acting is amazing. Tons of varied enemies (with just a few palette swaps). Great bossfights. A lot of hidden items, collectibles. One of the most interesting things about both Blasphemous 1 and 2 (and people are torn on this) is how both games approach story progression. It's similar to Dark Souls in a sense that there are some 'point of no return' moments for certain NPC's and if you rush through the game without paying attention to dialogues, without reading lore in the item descriptions etc. it will affect the outcomes. Not everyone likes this and I did screw myself in the first game by triggering a bossfight on accident, but ultimately I think it's a good thing. It makes you sit with the consequences of your actions. Sometimes things just don't go how you planned. And the game features NG+ anyway, both B1 and B2.
Is the game flawless? It's pretty damn close to being that. I think I only encountered one bug when my fervour bar didn't recover after picking up the guilt fragment and I was forced to go to the confessor but other than that there was nothing that disrupted my enjoyment in any way. This was just pure fun and amazement, from the beginning to the end.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I coudn't stop playing for days and almost play it all in one shot. Loved the art, the gameplayed and i had a lot of fun exploring the map, i already got a 98% and i need to find the last piece i miss.

You dont have invulnerability frames after a hit or contact damage. That means that 2 enemys can just touch you to death without you being able to dodge or move.
And the worst part of that is that the game is really inconsisten in the damage calculations. Sometimes u can kill "x" enemy in 2 hits and sometimes that same enemy can take 3 or 4 hits; sometimes u stun "x" in 1 hit and sometimes "x" just facetank the hit and hit you. And whats worse is that the same thing can happen to you. One enemy that does a lounge attack (the monk thats on the first game as well) one shot me because i was in a recovery animation after a hit so he hit me 4 times in a single attack. The game is weird and oddly unpolished. Just like the first game... And people defend it like the game is a masterpiece, just like with the first game, and is not. Its an average game that gives people Stockholm syndrome for some reason.

One enemy that does a lounge attack (the monk thats on the first game as well) one shot me because i was in a recovery animation after a hit so he hit me 4 times in a single attack. The game is weird and oddly unpolished. Just like the first game... And people defend it like the game is a masterpiece, just like with the first game, and is not. Its an average game that gives people Stockholm syndrome for some reason.

The story doesn't impress me. Some of the gameplay mechanics are more clunky than entertaining or challenging. A good number of the bosses are just overly drawn out combats where the boss regularly does something unavoidable so either you miraculously get a lot of bonus damage to win or you just run out of heals before they use too many unavoidable attacks.

1) the map feels too big and non linear
2) the amount of dead ends that require a special ability to get through is too much. Just the idea of having to redo 50% of the rooms later make me want to stop playing.

it also introduced a new weapon system which offers variety in playstyle and unlockable moves, keeping the combat fresh and allowing players more strategies, this also ties into progress and exploration which is nice

Weapons feel okay and enemies are repetitive but not awful.
That being said the second half, β₯β₯β₯β₯β₯β₯β₯β₯β₯. Once you get like your third permanant exploration unlock it feels really lazy. Exploration stops feeling exciting and starts feeling very linear. To beat my playthrough took me around 12 hours and by that point I really did not feel like playing any more.
The last handful of bosses did not feel fun, just annoying? not difficult, did 3 of second try, 2 of them on my first try, second to last boss took me 10 attempts due to his second phase having some very strange timings and a lot of extra attacks being thrown in as hp changes. The actual final boss after took only two attempts (only two and not one because it makes you attempt the first one with no heals or flask restores after your last boss fight).
Tried the area with the whip, got it half way upgraded but got tired of how repetitive it was. The whip is good and I used it for the entire game after but it really devolved into walk into X area, fight arena room that consists of a few ghosts, some candelabra dudes, and almost always ends in a minotaur (or two!) and I just couldn't be bothered after the 5th arena room like this.
Overall, fine game if you like soulslikes or castlevanias. But past the half way point really drops the ball and gets boring.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
