Almost all of the multiplayer runs had to be abandoned because the progression didn't trigger in the right way, doors wouldn't open even though the mission told you to progress in the level.
A lot of modifiers are just straight up buggy.
Singleplayer is playable for me but some people reported game breaking bugs even in Singleplayer.

The game feels nothing like Serious Sam.
Gameplay-wise, there's no weapon meta, no dancing with the enemies, and none of the combat flow that makes Serious Sam, Serious Sam. The level design is also generic, and most areas play pretty much the same, with the exceptions of some areas that were seemingly ripped straight out of SS1. This games genuinely just feels like Behavior wanted to make an FPS roguelite and slapped Serious Sam on it for clout.
Performance-wise, based on how the game looks, I really shouldn't be getting around 40 FPS at 75% 3D resolution. I'm not criticizing the art style, I actually like it.
The game is also way too buggy at the moment, to the point where I can't currently recommend it even if you're not a Serious Sam fan. Your friends will often get kicked back to the lobby while loading into levels, and the game crashes frequently, which is very frustrating for a roguelite. We've just had three 1h+ long runs that crashed at the final boss. We've also encountered a bunch of other miscellaneous bugs that still weren't patched from the playtests, such as the screen randomly getting a yellow filter that stays for the entire level, or subtitles still appearing even when they're disabled in the settings.
Speaking of subtitles, the dialogue in this game is absolutely horrendous. It's some of the most unfunny writing I've ever heard, and it feels like the game is trying way too hard to be funny. It's that generic inoffensive modern humor a lot of new games have. The only character that isn't as terrible is Retro Sam, and guess why? He's mostly reusing lines from SS1 again.
So it seems like everything they've taken from an actual Serious Sam game is the best part. Who would've thought?
Also, who are these characters? The reptiloid one is cool but Broken Sam and Orphan Sam looks as generic as ever. We already had a female version of Sam which could've been used instead. In fact, we already had multiple version of Sams that could've been taken. SS2/Xbox Sam, SS3 Sam, Classic Sam, Future Sam, etc...
If you entirely put Serious Sam aside and take this game as an standalone entry, then this could be an enjoyable game to play with friends, assuming the bugs and performance issues get fixed, and you turned off the dialogue.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

You entered a challenge portal but the last remaining enemy glitched out of bounds? well gg you can now reset your run because you can neither leave the portal nor kill the enemy to continue. Not sure why they didn't add a timer or trigger mechanic to deal with this, because for some reason enemies tend to move out of the map or get struck behind walls fairly often. There were multiple playtests yet something game breaking as this has no work arounds? ridiculous.
There's also a coop bug that randomly disconnects you after a boss fight. It's also not possible to rejoin the lobby afterwards, which means your run is dead again. Why can disconnected players not re-enter the lobby again? it makes no sense.
performance optimization is also terrible. medium settings on my system struggle to stay above 100fps, which is funny considering how basic the game looks. not even frame generation is available. there're 20 year old games that look better than this and they run on a literal toaster.

This might be the most fun I've had with serious sam in a long time. The bosses are amazing too.

The poor optimization and the amount of bugs that can literally break your runs make the game almost unplayable. I've had bosses become invulnerable or noclip through the floor, leaving me completely stuck with no way to even restart the run.
I really hope this game gets more updates that fix these issues, because it has a lot of potential with the multiverse Sams, different locations, interesting weapon upgrades, buildes etc.

I recommend this game as an introduction to roguelikes, to the genre itself, especially if you enjoy grinding which I also do sometimes. However as a serious sam game, it is a pass for me. I reached the last phase of the last boss after grinding two times and called it a day - I checked on videos what to do there and yeah Oprhan Sam's ultimate ability..I just didn't see it worth grinding it any further.
Here are my thoughts:
Music/OST is actually excellent. If the rest of the game was up to this quality, it would be no complaints from my side. This OST could be put in any of the mainline serious sam games, and they would sound great. At least this game has a kickass soundtrack. Some people did not like it, but I think the composer did an excellent job imho.
Audio design: The weapons don't sound memorable, including the ultimates. Actually some audio pieces or effects were too loud.
I can see what kind of tone, and "feeling" the game tried to go for, it is just that the developer couldn't keep the quality up, because of the deadline probably.
Graphics - I am not sure why fortnite stylish graphics were chosen for this game. There are some levels and worlds which look really great, but some worlds (Biomes / location) just look blank, like Egypt. It feels like some textures/shadows were not finished. The Rogue Netrisca planet, SS Infinite, Lumina or whatever their names are especially look great.
There are great looking UE5 titles out there, so the engine is not an excuse.
Jokes - Repetitive, all over the top to the point where you want to turn off the audio for speech lol. When Inverse Sam started talking and things got a little bit more "serious", that is when it was interesting for a couple of minutes. I am not against one liners, but there is just too much of it.
Bosses: The Kleer God, Rogue Netrisca, Shard of Mental are great, Inverse Sam is also not bad. The Lava Golem, Highlander Reptiloid bossfights should need a revamp, as they seem generic.
Enemies: Decent, but again the variety of the enemies is not what I think Serious Sam fans will be looking for.
Number of enemies - Sometimes, you get that Serious Sam feeling, that funny chaos, and a few moments are enjoyable.
Difficulty: Because it is a roguelike game it is very difficult at first as you need to upgrade your characters, but still I think this would still require difficulty settings to be more more accessible to serious sam fans, or newer players.
Sometimes you have to use a pistol to fight against entire hordes, especially in like act 3. I understand the randomness, but this should have been balanced, if you start with a specific lower tier weapon.
Story: Servicable, at the end it feels like you don't achieve anything though.
Levels: They are just too repetitive. There aren't so many worlds. I understand the levels need to be short, but instead make it less about grinding less and have more levels, worlds.
Sometimes some parts of the levels are available to the player in Act 2 and 3 but they quickly became boring.
This is about multiple universes!? The "challenge rooms" also become repetitive.
Anomalies: Some are fun, challenging, but some can be way too annoying. The third person one should be an option in the game as it makes playing it much easier. Some are definitely funny though.
Weapons: That cooldown and reload mechanic, oh my god. I do not understand the choice there of making them underpowered that way. Apart from that the weapons are not that bad to use.
Ultimates: Decent.
Characters: They aren't that bad, but there is only a few of them, and they aren't that unique or interesting. Plus Orphan Sam appears to be the meta. Alien Sam is cool.
Performance: There were some lags when entering the hub place, but apart from that I think it runs well.
Perks, Intel, Trinkets, crystal orbs - It takes way too long to get into them and everything is way too expensive. Lowering the costs would already make the game much better imho.
The health system is weird. This shouldn't be a game where you have to use melee combat to acquire health. Or at least make it more integrated, by acquiring more health back.
Bugs: There are several of them, that can be encountered, can be patched in the future.
Secrets: I didn't actively search for all the easter eggs, secrets, there aren't so many though.
I think a linear/traditional single player campaign with very similar level design and concept would have been really great. I see the fun and goal of Roguelites and Roguelikes, It was a nice intro to me to the
Roguelie genre. However a game designed like this actually makes you want to play the traditional single player campaigns instead, that was the feeling that I got. And it is not nostalgia speaking, as I liked TFE (Legend of the beast as well), TSE, SS2, SS3 (Jewel of the nile as well), SS4 (Yes it was buggy upon release, but now it is definitely an SS game worth playing), Siberian Mayhem (S tier) and the Next Encounter as well, to give a spin off example.

Perks, Intel, Trinkets, crystal orbs - It takes way too long to get into them and everything is way too expensive. Lowering the costs would already make the game much better imho.
The health system is weird. This shouldn't be a game where you have to use melee combat to acquire health. Or at least make it more integrated, by acquiring more health back.
Bugs: There are several of them, that can be encountered, can be patched in the future.
Secrets: I didn't actively search for all the easter eggs, secrets, there aren't so many though.
I think a linear/traditional single player campaign with very similar level design and concept would have been really great. I see the fun and goal of Roguelites and Roguelikes, It was a nice intro to me to the
Roguelie genre. However a game designed like this actually makes you want to play the traditional single player campaigns instead, that was the feeling that I got. And it is not nostalgia speaking, as I liked TFE (Legend of the beast as well), TSE, SS2, SS3 (Jewel of the nile as well), SS4 (Yes it was buggy upon release, but now it is definitely an SS game worth playing), Siberian Mayhem (S tier) and the Next Encounter as well, to give a spin off example.

Gunplay feels very nice, granted you tweak some settings that are turned on by default as my sensitivity felt too low when first playing the game but that was quickly fixed with just one simple peek into the game settings. They're also easier to unlock as of the latest patch by giving you more catalyst orbs and the guns being cheaper, which eases up the grinding by a hefty amount.
So far all of the bosses have been unique and very fun to fight, dying felt like an actual mistake from me and not a design flaw. Attacks are well choreograped (either via voiceline or animation) and therefore are pretty easy to predict and dodge in time. The music in this game kicks some serious ass too. While not made by the fabled Damjan Mravunac, the composer did an insanely great job on all of these tracks and I advise people to go listen to the soundtrack.
Obviously the game's not perfect, I have had my own complaints (most of which have been fixed with the recent patch like making grinding way easier) but if you manage to overlook them, this is a pretty good side-entry for a spinoff, and for a very nice price too.

Maybe due to it being a rogue lite or it not being faithful to the Serious Sam style of gameplay but those complaints fail to mention that this is spin-off game that only costs $20. I haven't played long enough to say if it's REALLY good, but I can safely say it's very enjoyable. As a serious sam series life long player, and someone who usually likes roguelikes, I'm having lots of fun with it

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThough I give this game a good review, it is highly flawed in principle. In many aspects it's a competently made game; decent movement & gunplay, easy to read the action, maps are visually appealing. However it falls short due to what I'll call: rougelite limbo.
This game attempts to capture the replayability of rougelites while still, for the most part, holding true to the preestablished Sam formula. By not leaning enough into either side, this places the game in an awkward middle ground that fails to accomplish either goal. I'd personally say the game needs to lean more heavily into its rougelite aspects.
While there are many areas I think could be improved, I believe the perk system needs the most work.
There's a distinct lack of experimentation. Many perks are simply incremental upgrades, such as extra health or armor, and many perks don't synergize well with others. The few perks that do synergize well feel mandatory to pick, which only serves to only limit your options. This leaves you trying to picking the same perks every time, ruining much of the fun in rougelites, which is through experimentation. This could be solved by just adding more perks, but I think the issue mainly comes down to the philosophy behind the way the current perks are designed. Many perks are designed with specific builds in mind, and often come with limitations that prevent them from being useful with other perks. There should be a greater variety of more generalized perks that can synergize well with many builds. Some examples could be: bonuses to fire rate also improve movement speed, or the higher your maximum health, the more damage you do.
In addition, I also believe there should be more perks that provide active abilities, and of these perks, some could have their own build paths. As an example, take a basic grenade ability. It could be upgraded into a cartoon bomb with a larger explosion, an incendiary, which leaves a lingering pool of fire, or a remote detonated sticky bomb. As an aside, if more active perks were to be added, don't limit how many the player could take. If they want to bind every key and make inputs like they're playing Moonlight Sonata, let them.
Lastly there should be more options for support focused perks. These don't necessarily have to be strictly focused on support either, bringing it back to designing perks to synergize with many builds, you could design perks that help with a support oriented role, while still being a worthwhile choice for a non-support player. An example could be a perk that increases weapon knockback. Useful for helping to keep enemies off of your teammates, yourself, or could even be used to get environmental kills.
Overall I'd give this game in it's current state a 6.5/10
