This is not a bad game by any means, but I think a few setbacks make the full price hard to justify for most people.
First of all, combat is easily my favorite part of the game. Game Freak really deliver here. The combat is fun, responsive, and feels great to play. This isn't a Soulslike, so there's no real punishment for dying. It's much more action focused, with consecutive parry mechanics that remind me a lot of Sekiro, plenty of move combinations, and even some QTE style moves from our companion, Koo. I honestly have very few complaints about the combat.
Exploration is another strong point. There's a good sense of discovery, and finding things while exploring actually feels rewarding. The traversal system is also fun, and the whole concept of a pos t apocalyptic Japan is pretty intriguing. Unfortunately, the level design doesn't really live up to that concept. A lot of the environments feel boring, repetitive and uninspired, and the lack of enemy variety makes things worse. You fight the same enemies with basically the same movesets over and over again. Even the bosses end up feeling pretty bland and underwhelming.
From a technical perspective, I didn't have any major performance issues, but the visuals definitely don't live up to the hype. The game look noticeably blurry, and the camera positioning can be pretty awkward at times. The recent patches have improved things, though, so it's definitely better than it was at launch.

The Japanese voice acting is good, but the cutscenes, dialogue, and animations don't really do justice to the performances. I never really had that "Wow, that was epic" moment during any of the major cutscenes. Even some of the sequences in the early hours reminded me of Stellar Blade, but unfortunately they never reached that same level of impact. The protagonist being so emotionally flat doesn't help either. The plot itself is also quite slow, especially early on, which makes it difficult to find a reason to keep pushing forward. That said, I did appreciate the overall message of the story, and there are some interesting twists toward the epilogue.
Overall, while the graphics aren't particularly spectacular, the characters aren't that engaging, and the narrative and gameplay loop can become repetitive over time, I still appreciate what the developers were trying to do here. It's clear that Game Freak was trying to explore something different, and despite all its rough edges, I had a good time with it. If you're willing to overlook its shortcomings and experience the game on its own terms, there's definitely something here to enjoy.

The game is decent, it does what it wants to do pretty well but not exceptionally well. It is no masterpiece, and you will notice the shortcomings (maybe because of budget or time limitations) but I did not have any major bugs and nothing, and overall I enjoyed it greatly. It ran fine on my Steamdeck too, without having to tinker around to make it work, which was a huge plus for me. Even though it's officially not compatible, it ran better than some games that officially are compatible. The downside is that the settings are all on low and some cutscenes take a long time to load.
I also enjoyed the slow pace of the cutscenes more than I thought I would. In a world filled with games, movies, etc. full of actions every 30 seconds, I was happy to have a more slow-paced experience. Sadly, the middle of the game is almost a full stop on the story for some reason. But I was still happy with the overall experience. The story is its greatest weakness, I enjoyed it in the end, but the storytelling and the long stretches of nothing do not help. Having plot twists explained to you while you’re running around on the map is a choice for sure, but not necessarily a compelling one.

You can play around with different builds and the more you unlock the more fun the different combos become. The game is not hard, but sometimes the stiffness of the main character can be frustrating. I adored the wolf (easy point to get from me, I must admit) and I liked using its skill to fight. I understand how the reuse of enemies and bosses can be frustrating. It did not bother me, and it made sense lore-wise somehow.
I found the world compelling, but I am also a sucker for post-apocalyptic scenery. Gimme city ruins in the middle of nature and I will have a good time. But I also believe the art direction to be solid, even though you can see that they were limited in assets, as they reused most of them. The different maps still felt different enough for me to be happy. I loved exploring and moving around!

Even moving on to new maps and chapters, you'll still end up fighting the same enemies. The subtitles seem to have been localized, they don't match the japanese voices and the meaning is changed. The story seem to have been written by an untalented writer. Alot of useless dialogue that does not progress the characters or story. The story itself isn't interesting. They keep you in suspense clueless about the story for so long, till you reach a certain chapter, where you can't run or interact with objectives or campfire, cause the story is being spammed hard in the dialogue, and yes you gota wait for the long unskippable dialogue to finish before you can continue. The game features a new game + with an additional diffeculty level that has a seperate achievement for it. The only problem is, the dialogue throughout the story cannot be skipped if you decide to go for it. You'd think ok new game plus and a new diffeculty, maybe a new ending? Nope stuck to 1 ending sorry.

I love and respect the intention behind the game and what the developers wanted to achieve. However, as someone who simply plays the game, I can say that it has a lot of issues—and its biggest problem is pacing. The game takes around 12 hours to become truly interesting, both in terms of gameplay and story. A lot of people simply won't have the patience to stick with it for that long. If this had been an eight-hour game with a stronger focus on combat, like Ninja Gaiden or other hack-and-slash games, it could have been much better. I think Beast of Reincarnation will be remembered as the Kingdoms of Amalur of JRPGs: a game with a clear vision that never fully delivered on its potential. It's a solid—and beautiful at times—game, but many players won't be able to overlook its biggest flaws.
The best thing about this game is its combat. It feels great to parry enemies and leave them vulnerable, and it's clear that Game Freak put a lot of effort into creating a combat system that is both fun and accessible. With plenty of options to optimize your build, you can become incredibly powerful by the endgame. There are some difficult fights, but nothing ever felt impossible. However, the combat feels overshadowed by the game's unnecessary scale. The large, empty maps feel like a waste because there are very few enemies to fight, and most areas are filled with the same enemy types. This makes exploration and combat increasingly repetitive. There are a few things to discover, such as recipes, books, and crops, but they rarely feel rewarding enough to actively search for. There are also no NPCs to interact with—only a few vendors near certain camps—which makes the world feel even emptier. Honestly, I think this game would have benefited from a more linear structure, similar to Ninja Gaiden 4. I don't think people would have complained about that at all. The game simply feels like it was designed with a bigger scope than the available resources could support.

It sometimes feels like these elements exist mainly to extend the game's runtime. Personally, I wasn't completely put off by this because I grew attached to the characters, but I can understand why many players won't feel the same way.

It's also clear that the game was heavily inspired by Nier: Automata. When the game was first announced, I was worried it would be a cheap copy, and sadly, I can confirm that it sometimes feels that way. Many locations, musical choices, story tropes, and even certain characters feel extremely similar to Nier: Automata. Without spoiling anything, there were several moments when I was trying to figure out the characters and the story, only to realize by the end that my predictions were correct because the game was simply too similar to Nier: Automata. If you're someone who doesn't mind these similarities, you probably won't have a problem with it. However, I can see this being a major negative for other players, and the game could unfortunately be remembered as the "Temu Nier: Automata"—which I personally think is unfair.
So, is this game really as bad as some people say? No, I don't think so. Despite everything I've criticized, I still find Beast of Reincarnation fun and worth playing. The combat feels great, the music is beautiful, and the story—while confusing and almost nonexistent at first—eventually becomes solid. Most importantly, the entire package has a lot of soul and artistic vision, and I can appreciate that as a gamer. I think Beast of Reincarnation could eventually be remembered as the Kingdoms of Amalur of JRPGs: a great game with a lot of potential that was overshadowed by its competitors. Maybe not today, but in a few years, people might look back and say, "Beast of Reincarnation was actually a great game."

Many locations, musical choices, story tropes, and even certain characters feel extremely similar to Nier: Automata. Without spoiling anything, there were several moments when I was trying to figure out the characters and the story, only to realize by the end that my predictions were correct because the game was simply too similar to Nier: Automata. If you're someone who doesn't mind these similarities, you probably won't have a problem with it. However, I can see this being a major negative for other players, and the game could unfortunately be remembered as the "Temu Nier: Automata"—which I personally think is unfair.
So, is this game really as bad as some people say? No, I don't think so. Despite everything I've criticized, I still find Beast of Reincarnation fun and worth playing. The combat feels great, the music is beautiful, and the story—while confusing and almost nonexistent at first—eventually becomes solid. Most importantly, the entire package has a lot of soul and artistic vision, and I can appreciate that as a gamer. I think Beast of Reincarnation could eventually be remembered as the Kingdoms of Amalur of JRPGs: a great game with a lot of potential that was overshadowed by its competitors. Maybe not today, but in a few years, people might look back and say, "Beast of Reincarnation was actually a great game."
If Game Freak ever releases an improved or updated version that addresses the problems I mentioned, this game could go from solid to incredible. I think it provides a good blueprint for future Game Freak projects, and I genuinely hope they continue making games like this. **Graphics:**
This game can look very nice most of the time. Emma and Koo are the highlights, of course, but I don't think the overall visuals are quite AAA quality.
After defeating each boss, Emma and Koo gain a new flower on their respective bodies. Emma's attaches to her hair, increasing the length of her braid, while Koo's attaches to his tail. It's a nice detail that I really appreciate.
The environments look fine, but after the first open zone, they generally start to look the same. It began to feel very "copy/paste" to me after a while.
All in all, the game's graphics are more than serviceable, but if you're expecting top-tier visuals, you aren't going to find them here.
**Sound:**
Another area where I didn't have much of an issue. The music is great and fairly catchy. If you enjoy the music from the NieR series and/or Stellar Blade, you'll probably feel right at home with the soundtrack.

Koo's abilities help change things up, but the system still felt like it was missing something. It's somewhat similar to FF7 Remake, where you gain AP that allows you to use his abilities.
One downside to the combat is that the enemy variety is pretty pathetic. Each enemy only has a couple of moves, and once you learn them, the combat starts becoming much more predictable and dull. There are a few variations of certain enemies later on, but nothing particularly challenging.
Bosses are another weak point. There are only a few bosses in the entire game, and around three of them are repeated. One boss is fought three separate times for story purposes. It's one of the weakest parts of the game, and just like the standard enemies, most bosses only have a handful of moves to learn.
Traversal through the environments can actually be really fun, especially when you're searching for some of the more important items. The problem is that most of the items you find are almost pointless. I really wish exploration had been more rewarding.
Lastly, the optimization was—and in some ways still is—unacceptable. I'm running the game on a 4090 with a 7950X3D at 32:9, and the constant frame drops were a major problem. Game Freak has released several updates, but this game needed another six months to a year to cook before releasing in the state that it originally did.

The game took me just under 33 hours to complete, including NG+. To be fair, I rushed through NG+ primarily to get the final achievements, so I believe my first standard playthrough took roughly 25 hours.
I will say that NG+ is very disappointing because there really isn't much reason to play through it outside of getting a few achievements. There aren't any substantial new rewards unless you simply want the enemies to hit slightly harder.
The achievements, if you care about that stuff, are your typical assortment. You will need to complete NG+ to finish leveling up Emma and Koo, as well as fully upgrading all of their abilities. Oh, and there is also a single achievement specifically for completing NG+.
**Verdict:**
Even with all of its flaws, I still enjoyed my time with the game overall. The combat, music, Emma and Koo, and some of the later story moments were enough to keep me interested until the end. I don't think this is a bad game by any means; it just feels like a game that had a lot more potential than what was ultimately delivered. That is why I am still giving it a positive recommendation, even though I would personally rate it around a **6.5/10**.
I didn't touch much on the story above, but it's pretty standard fare. Most of what happens can be figured out ahead of time if you have a few brain cells. The ending was decent, though, and it did manage to give me some of those "feels."
I would not recommend buying this game at full price. I would wait for a decent sale.
I doubt the game will get a sequel, and honestly, it works fine as a standalone title. The game had a lot of promise, but in the end, it turned out to be a disappointment for me.
Hopefully Game Freak learns from this experience and takes another chance at making something outside of Pokémon.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI can say that Beast of Reincarnation isn't bad, but it's also pretty damning. I really respect GAME FREAK, not because of Pokemon, but because they do make some interesting decisions. Pocket Card Jockey was one of my favorite games on 3DS. That said, I had hoped that further into the game new mechanics would unlock or GF had something up their sleeves that would make it unique or even... better. I'm sad to say, none of this happens. I mean, everything is OK, just OK. Story, characters, gameplay, the world. At times I felt in awe of the scope, almost Shadow of the Colossus -like, but in the end nothing is fleshed out enough and so it turns out, there's just nothing great. Game progression is very linear, but had SO MUCH potential. It looks like it could be a sprawling world, but it's not. I almost feel as if this was rushed to get it out of the door. I think if GAME FREAK could do this over, they would let it cook for another 6-9 months to really let the world feel living, which is ironic considering robots are the top of the hierarchy.
Some thoughts on gameplay:
This game wants to be Nier X Stellar blade. It does NOT want to be a souls-like. Don't let that tag fool you or you will be disappointed.
Music is exceptional; it feels more like Stellar Blade in that regard.
The jumping mechanic isn't utilized enough as there's so many invisible walls it's actually pretty frustrating.
Most of the game is pretty much single button combos R1 with the occasional X (on controller)
Even unlocking "skills" pretty much is a variation of the combo and because of this can seem pretty dull
There's stealth, which I think is the one highlight, and might be the only thing that stood out. But you can't use that on bosses. So, another missed opportunity.
I think I can count on my hands the number of different enemies.
The world is missing lore and secrets, which I'll be honest I mostly skip, but I think it's a disservice to have a game appear so vast but be so empty. There's really no good reason to explore, save for an occasional charm. Searching for seeds isn't worth it in my opinion as food provides such a minor buff.
Koo, your dog, will mark everything on the map anyway (as long as you've unlocked this skill). So, there even more reason not to really explore.
Invisible walls block even buildings in the middle of maps. Seeing an opening large enough to fit a mini van through yet not being able to go in it is frustrating.
There's a lack of breakable objects, which lends to the emptiness. You'll see a wooden box, but it can't be broken. Maybe I'm asking too much there...
Purchasing items in game are WAY too expensive, usually costing about 1/3 of your funds
There are moments like I mentioned about the scope where I almost feel in awe. But maybe it's because the game doesn't offer enough tension or difficulty. Or in souls games, possibly losing something valuable. That said, the game is on the easy side. Though you will occasionally get killed asking, wth.

This game wants to be Nier X Stellar blade. It does NOT want to be a souls-like. Don't let that tag fool you or you will be disappointed.
Music is exceptional; it feels more like Stellar Blade in that regard.
The jumping mechanic isn't utilized enough as there's so many invisible walls it's actually pretty frustrating.
Most of the game is pretty much single button combos R1 with the occasional X (on controller)
Even unlocking "skills" pretty much is a variation of the combo and because of this can seem pretty dull
There's stealth, which I think is the one highlight, and might be the only thing that stood out. But you can't use that on bosses. So, another missed opportunity.
I think I can count on my hands the number of different enemies.
The world is missing lore and secrets, which I'll be honest I mostly skip, but I think it's a disservice to have a game appear so vast but be so empty. There's really no good reason to explore, save for an occasional charm. Searching for seeds isn't worth it in my opinion as food provides such a minor buff.
Koo, your dog, will mark everything on the map anyway (as long as you've unlocked this skill). So, there even more reason not to really explore.
Invisible walls block even buildings in the middle of maps. Seeing an opening large enough to fit a mini van through yet not being able to go in it is frustrating.
There's a lack of breakable objects, which lends to the emptiness. You'll see a wooden box, but it can't be broken. Maybe I'm asking too much there...
Purchasing items in game are WAY too expensive, usually costing about 1/3 of your funds
There are moments like I mentioned about the scope where I almost feel in awe. But maybe it's because the game doesn't offer enough tension or difficulty. Or in souls games, possibly losing something valuable. That said, the game is on the easy side. Though you will occasionally get killed asking, wth.

Unfortunately, while the game has some fun gameplay and combat ideas, it ultimately comes across as a 'under cooked' experience. The game suffers from a myriad of gameplay systems that are hard to engage with and feel borderline useless. The cast and dialogue are so boring and uninspiring I dread every cutscene or support conversation. The game endlessly recycles bosses to the point where they lose most impact. The story itself makes little sense as well. Ultimately this game needed another year of development time to iron out these issue or it needed to be cut in half, with a tight 10-hr main story. I hope GameFreak gets another chance at making a unique game cause they had a few good ideas, but I cannot recommend this game to anyone.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The combat system is easily the highlight for me: the different skills, arrows, bolts and simple-but-satisfying combos feel great to use and kept me engaged throughout the whole game.
The story itself is actually very interesting, and the worldbuilding is fantastic. The mix of post‑apocalyptic, medieval and fantasy elements creates a setting that really pulled me in.
But the way the story is told… that’s where the game lost me a bit.
Every character feels strangely emotionless, the cutscenes lack energy or inspiration, and after a while I honestly found myself zoning out during the long dialogue sections. It’s a shame, because the underlying story is good — it just isn’t presented in a way that keeps you awake.
The maps also feel a bit lifeless, and the enemy variety is unfortunately very limited.
