-A nice variety of levels with different mechanics and interactive mechanics.
-The side worlds/missions are delightful changes of pace where we get to be more goofy and just have fun.
-Some good old teamplay mechanics, one person has to active the thing so the other person can do their thing and etc.
Cons:
-The story is honestly kinda whatever. The villain is just evil, and despite the game being about theft of ideas, everything in here just seems like a variation on already existing media/ideas.
-The fantasy/sci fi settings do start to get stale by the 2nd half. They need to build on the mechanics more instead of just slapping a different skin over the same sequence. The tech outfits/worlds kind of all look generic, and many of the fantasy worlds are just different forest vibes. The side missions are the saving grace in the variety regard.
Overall Split Fiction is a fun co-op game to playthrough with a partner. While it has a very nice coat of paint, the actual mechanics within very rarely fully engrossed me as I was hoping.

Looks beautiful, interesting story (though simple), good gameplay that keeps changing and thus is interesting. The game feels really high action with zero grinding or boring bits. Some parts of the gameplay in the end made me like "whoa this is really interesting idea!". And there was this one part that really made me laugh. Really interesting idea with changing between worlds, which also makes the game feel fresh. This one is better than It takes two or A way out. It's ironic a story about writers is so poorly written. It's very unclear if these are novel authors, screenplay writers, or game writers? They just keep saying "writer" over and over again and refer to their work as "stories" instead of saying "book" or "film script". It sounds very unnatural. I wish there was more diversity in the sci-fi worlds. Most of them are just space, but sci-fi can be so much more than that! Like how Manware is more grounded on earth but everyone has robotic limbs and the technology is more advanced. The villain is just a super flat evil tech CEO. I wish he was at least funny or had SOME kind of interesting personality. I will say the gameplay can be fun at some parts, but the puzzles are so overly simple. It feels more like the game is a shallow rollercoaster ride than a good narrative or fun in depth game. This just feels like a step down from the studio's previous games.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

For 95% of the game you're just running down a hallway side by side and sometimes opening a door for the other before immediately rejoining. You may as well be playing a single player with how little interactivity that game has. The final level is creative and fun and is like what I expected the majority of the game, but it's only the final level. Pretty disappointing overall. Visually pretty but gameplay is a huge step-down from It Takes Two. There's also no puzzle solving or really anything to slow you down or work together. The powers you get each level are also incredibly boring and uncreative. Not the worst game but definitely not the best. We just didn't really have any fun playing it, like, at all. The only parts I didn't really enjoy were the Cold Potato challenge and the 2D sections, mainly because I'm just not a fan of 2D games. Aside from that, every moment was an absolute blast.

I really don't like the gameplay any of the chapters have to offer. Consistently throughout, it feels like you are playing the game alongside someone, and sometimes as a rare treat you help each other through 1 platforming puzzle. The first 3 chapters give you very simple and straightforward abilities, and I can only point out one or two areas that creatively have you use teamwork together. Other that that, you mostly platform separately or waiting for the other person to open a door for you. I think the last two chapters and Chapter 4 (Final Dawn/gun chapter) do improve on the fun and interactivity levels though.
The other reason is how little you actually interact with the worlds you traverse. It would be the obvious decision that "completing" the story would trigger the glitches but that's it. I really wish the dynamic of the authors knowing how the story ends was used (Chapter 4 did this with the solider on your team but it seemed to be for comedic effect and not actually thought about), but lacking this really makes this game feel like a showcase game of sceneries and environments.
But also some of these characters are genuinely so awful. Every single character (excluding the main characters) are extremely one-dimensional. Mr. Hammer makes hammer puns and her leader is a boring white woman. Parking Lot robot makes parking puns. The Ice Kitty King says "Slay!!!" because this entire game was written by millennials. The best characters are the dragons because they don't talk. Some people dislike the actual villain, Rader, but I think he is fine actually. Nothing much to comment since he is kind of always in the background then has a extremely cool 5 minute boss fight.
TLDR: It's passable if you want to play with one other friend/partner after playing "It Takes Two" but I found it quite boring and tedious.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I ended up falling in love with the story, the characters, and all the little moments along the way. The gameplay was creative, very fun, and always kept me excited to see what came next. Finishing it felt bittersweet because I wasn't ready to say goodbye. I'd love to play more games like this but it so rare to finddd so this was such a gem to me truly and it was one of those special adventures that stays with you long after it's over. <3\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I think the thing that impressed me the most was the sheer quantity of different ideas put into the game. I kept telling my husband that I would love every segment of this game to be a separate game, because I would play the heck out of all of them. It was one novel idea after the other, and was super cohesive coming together.
The plot was also really beautiful, and you could see so much character development over time. It's also great for couples where one person is bad at platforming, because the platforming is super forgiving. I was never frustrated by any of it.
I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
I saw someone complain about the lack of fantasy parts compared to sci-fi, and I also wish the fantasy parts were longer.

So far, the only way to pass the trolls is to throw the lemons; no matter how good you are at dodging or if you roll behind the crates, the rock will still hit you. I literally stayed still for part of the game, and it would just respawn me near my partner without me needing to touch my keyboard.
