You bring it back to the ship.

Except the building is basically a giant haunted maze, the lights barely work, and there are approximately 400 different ways for you and your friends to die.
And your employer doesn't care.
You could get eaten by a monster.
You could fall down a hole.
You could get crushed.
You could get lost.
You could watch your best friend get dragged into the darkness.
The Company doesn't care.
Meet quota.
That's it.
The game is at its best when playing with friends because Lethal Company somehow turns basic survival horror into the funniest possible workplace disaster.

The monsters are also fantastic because you never really know what you're going to encounter.
Some enemies can be avoided.

Some basically exist to ruin your entire day.
And the worst part is that your friends are often more dangerous than the monsters.
Someone leaves a door open.
Someone turns off the lights.
Someone takes the only flashlight.
Someone gets lost.
Someone picks up an object they absolutely shouldn't touch.
Someone says, “I think we're safe.”
You're dead five seconds later.
The proximity voice chat makes everything even better.
You can hear your friends getting farther away.
Their voice gets quieter.
Then you hear:
“GUYS?”
You run toward them.
“GUYS, I THINK SOMETHING IS HERE.”
You arrive.
They're gone.
You hear their voice from somewhere in the distance:
“RUN.”
You run.
You don't ask questions.
You just run.
And then there are the moments where the game is genuinely terrifying.
You're alone.
Your flashlight is running low.
You haven't seen anything for several minutes.
You're carrying a valuable piece of scrap.
You hear footsteps behind you.
You turn around.
Nothing.
You keep walking.
Another sound.
Now you're moving faster.
You reach the entrance.
You think you're safe.
Something attacks you.
You scream.
Your friend is laughing over the microphone.
This is what Lethal Company does best.
It creates genuine horror and then immediately ruins it with your friends behaving like idiots.
The scrap system also makes everything more stressful than it should be.
Normally, if you found something valuable in a horror game, you'd be excited.
In Lethal Company, you're terrified of losing it.
You spent twenty minutes collecting scrap.
Your inventory is full.
You're almost back to the ship.
You can practically taste the money.
Then something kills you.
All of your scrap is sitting on the floor.
Your friends are still alive.
They have one job:
Get the scrap.
They don't.
They leave.
You watch them fly back to orbit with absolutely nothing.
You are now more afraid of your friends than the monsters.
And somehow, that's still not enough to stop you from playing again.
Because every run creates a story.
You don't remember the ordinary trips.
You remember the disaster.
The time someone got trapped behind a door.
The time your friend was killed five seconds after saying “I think we're okay.”
The time someone carried an absurd amount of scrap back to the ship.
The time everyone died and one person somehow survived by hiding in a corner for twenty minutes.
The time you met quota by the smallest possible amount.
The time you failed the quota by one dollar.
The time everyone was laughing so hard that nobody noticed the monster walking toward them.
Lethal Company is a perfect example of a game where the mechanics are simple but the situations they create are endlessly entertaining.

You're not saving the world.
You're not fighting for humanity.
You're an employee.

A lot of the monsters don't have any counter play besides just running away, as most of them are unkillable and/or kill you instantly, and even if you did try to fight them, you don't get anything for doing so, you risk your life for nothing. Because of this, the game kinda just becomes an infinitely repeating loop of pick up items, run away from monsters, pick up items, run away from monsters, and stops becoming fun once the monsters stop becoming scary and just become nuissances. To make matters worse, these unavoidable obstacle enemies seem to be Zeeker's favorite, and he keeps adding new ones every single update while also reworking the maps and making them worse to play on. This was my first ever experience in the world of co-op horror games and it had such a hold on me. The amount of laughs, screams and a few cries made me cherish this game so much. From the wonderful people I got to meet, to the few solo runs I would do, I can truly say I love it! I would so so so recommend this game!
I also love forcing others who have never played lethal just to make them feel the pure terror I once did :) The turrets still have me screaming tho.

However, this game is so reliant on cooperative play, and unfortunately, I don't know what happened, but all of the vanilla players are insanely toxic. You will join lobbies, say "hello," and get instantly kicked. You'll die in a run, despite getting the most loot and dying last, and lobby leaders who haven't even been to artifice before will call you trash and kick you. The entire community needs a massive attitude adjustment, and maybe actually present fathers in their lives.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Now every public server is either full of people who ♥♥♥♥ around, die in 15 minutes flat, then leave, or, has one guy in it that speedruns every map like a TAS-bot, while one or two other people just hang around disinterestedly, or, a server with 2 people in it who instantly kick you because they're waiting on someone specific.. Oh, and of course, MODDED servers.. Servers where they hacked in infinite scrap so the game becomes pointless, or a server with some admin-tool nonsense that lets the owner (who coincidentally always happens to be a bored 7 year old) randomly mess with you or kill you. This game was made as streamer-bait, and streamer-bait is what it will always remain as, in my eyes. Might be fun if you have friends, and take nothing seriously, but you'll only be having that fun for around an hour before the charm wears off quickly.. And if you DO like taking things seriously, have fun being endlessly frustrated by other people in your group messing around because this game never figured out if it was a "haha funny" game or a "git gud and win" game, and wound up crippling its potential trying to be both.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Every entity has incredible mechanics and details that make the game so much better. The whole idea of it is simple, but always fun, giving the game a lot of replayability. Even though updates aren't as common as some games, each one adds content to the game, from visual updates, new entities, major changes to the games mechanics, or even smaller changes that most people don't notice, but still greatly help the game. This will always be one of my favorite games, either grinding to try to get a higher quota or just playing to have fun with my friends. Thank you to Zeekerss, who created this peak game.
