I never really cared about the Backrooms before, but as a co-op game the concept works surprisingly well. Some levels are genuinely creepy when nobody in the lobby knows what’s coming.

But over the course of three years, it went downhill, and I'm really disappointed.

The first level was fun, but even then it was a pretty basic backrooms game. I have played Minecraft backrooms mods and Roblox games that were better made and more fun than this. Don't waste your money nor your time on this game.
By level two the puzzles and entities were starting to get on my nerves. The puzzles slog on and on and the solutions are either a guessing game or the solutions are so stupid that you are better off guessing the solutions. The stamina or lack there of made the game hard but not in a fun nor challenging way, and by level three we were just trying to force ourselves to continue. The developers of this game clearly have no idea what makes a game scary and haven't the slightest thought in there head about what a game fun. You feel helpless running from the enemies only because you run out of sprint after taking 15 steps. The monsters all look like free unreal engine models, and the levels are the most basic, boring, uninspired, and unoriginal maps I have ever been cursed with playing.
Even with friends this game is a buggy, frustrating mess. Level transitions failing to function, monster noises overlapping into an unholy cacophony that makes you beg God to strip you of your hearing, and convoluted map designs meant to waste your time. All of this with in the first few levels.

The monsters all look like free unreal engine models, and the levels are the most basic, boring, uninspired, and unoriginal maps I have ever been cursed with playing.
Even with friends this game is a buggy, frustrating mess. Level transitions failing to function, monster noises overlapping into an unholy cacophony that makes you beg God to strip you of your hearing, and convoluted map designs meant to waste your time. All of this with in the first few levels.

The multiplayer design is also poorly made like not having specator vc or having to wait for everyone else to continue has no indicator which is really bad design. Escape the Backrooms is a Wish ordered version of Outlast Trials. It's okay, but as most games like this you have no idea WTF you are supposed to be doing and it's a bunch of trial and error unless you have someone show you what to do. I'm a gamer in my 40s, I'm over time wasting games that don't seem to reward you for your time. EtB, is a very average game and it's certainly not scary. Honestly, it's drives me nuts that we can't rate games with a more accurate scale. It's either positive or negative, this game falls somewhere in between. For the price, it's not too bad but I don't see much of a longevity for EtB and at the end of the day, it's simply not that fun compared to other games like it. Your best bet if you are still interested in this game is to find 4 other friends, if not I'd probably avoid EtB all together. Animations are all horrible, the only levels that seem to get actual attention are the TikTok slop levels rather than the actually interesting ones, monsters are really really bad, it fails miserably at trying to be scary, user interface is horrible, I could go on and on, but the biggest flaw is that each level is poorly designed and extremely confusing. There's no clear objective you're just wandering around trial and error until you figure out what to do an hour and a half later.
