The graphics look unbelievable. The entire world feels real, deeply detailed, and well put together from start to finish. Smooth Performance:
Even though it runs on Unreal Engine 5, the game is super well-optimized. Throughout my entire playthrough, I did not run into any lag, frame drops, or annoying stuttering at all. Environmental Combat:
The combat feels very smooth, the fights let you use everyday objects around you—like smashing bottles or using whatever is nearby to survive. Great Characters and Isabella:
The character development is top-notch across the board. The female character, Isabella, is absolutely stunning, emotional, and very attractive, but she simply does not get enough screen time. Her role feels way too short, and the game definitely needed a lot more scenes with her. A Rushed, Disappointing Ending:
The conclusion feels very sudden, as if the team ran out of time or ideas and just wanted to wrap it up. It feels like they forced a sad ending simply because it is a Mafia Game, which ends up feeling cheap and silly compared to the great setup.Despite the weak ending, the rest of the package is pure quality.

On the one hand, it's a real missed opportunity not only for character development, but to also sebvert the generic "mafia tropes" this series loves to hold on to (especially this game). After replaying the original Mafia trilogy I was excited to jump into Hangar 13's latest entry, one that promised to "return to their Mafia roots". Disappointingly enough, the only real return that I witnessed was the fact that everyone was Sicilian/Italian because everything else about this game was either the same as the previous entries, or a step down.
The game is stunning and the attention to detail put into the Italian countryside is truly something to behold. Lush vistas, old stone structures and ruins, shimmering creeks... all of it is a treat to take in as you gallop down the dirt roads of Sicily. These beautiful visuals come at a cost, however, as the performance of this game was completely all over the place. Even with a very powerful modern PC and turning down settings/utilizing DLSS, frequent drops and hiccups really mired an otherwise great looking game.
For the gameplay, this may be the most stripped down, bare bones, boring iteration of this series yet. The criticism of "go to point on map > kill enemies > go back to other point on map" is the main attraction, offering almost ZERO variety outside of this structure. The gunplay is awkward and the forced stealth sections with conveniently placed glass bottles for distractions and boxes to hide bodies was laughably bad.
They attempt to flesh the game out a bit more with some additional systems such as trinkets that offer special perks/skills, but you literally need not engage with any of them as the game hands you all the tools to clear every encounter regardless. All enemies will drop weapons and ammo, if you run out, resupplies will conveniently spawn everywhere, if you die you can simply start right where you left off and so on and so forth.
The saving grace of this entry is undoubtedly the characters. Top notch animation, facial expressions, and voice acting gives the entire cast such character as the story unfolds. Not to whiplash back to the negative but... the character work isn't enough to save the story either. While I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking, the story told in The Old Country could be lifted from almost any piece of Italian Mafia media over the last 50 years or so. Completely unoriginal and predictable at every turn. I know that won't matter to some, but if you are the type that doesn't enjoy knowing exactly how things will play out from the jump, you likely won't enjoy this one.
Overall at 14 hours of playtime I can't complain too much and I did enjoy touring around Italy for a bit, but this one is a hard to recommend game for fans of the series.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

These beautiful visuals come at a cost, however, as the performance of this game was completely all over the place. Even with a very powerful modern PC and turning down settings/utilizing DLSS, frequent drops and hiccups really mired an otherwise great looking game.
For the gameplay, this may be the most stripped down, bare bones, boring iteration of this series yet. The criticism of "go to point on map > kill enemies > go back to other point on map" is the main attraction, offering almost ZERO variety outside of this structure. The gunplay is awkward and the forced stealth sections with conveniently placed glass bottles for distractions and boxes to hide bodies was laughably bad.
They attempt to flesh the game out a bit more with some additional systems such as trinkets that offer special perks/skills, but you literally need not engage with any of them as the game hands you all the tools to clear every encounter regardless. All enemies will drop weapons and ammo, if you run out, resupplies will conveniently spawn everywhere, if you die you can simply start right where you left off and so on and so forth.
The saving grace of this entry is undoubtedly the characters. Top notch animation, facial expressions, and voice acting gives the entire cast such character as the story unfolds. Not to whiplash back to the negative but... the character work isn't enough to save the story either. While I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking, the story told in The Old Country could be lifted from almost any piece of Italian Mafia media over the last 50 years or so. Completely unoriginal and predictable at every turn. I know that won't matter to some, but if you are the type that doesn't enjoy knowing exactly how things will play out from the jump, you likely won't enjoy this one.
Overall at 14 hours of playtime I can't complain too much and I did enjoy touring around Italy for a bit, but this one is a hard to recommend game for fans of the series.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

UE also gives way worse visual compare to illusion engine. all facial expression look like shi, all cut scenes send 0 emotion, and it has the weird UE blur on it. This will be the last UE game I played. The finish is so cheap, this game prob worth 30$ Max, wait for sale if you really want it. Or just play Mafia 1&2

It is pretty, but if you like doing the story and are not good at driving you are throwing money away. I have played the other Mafia games, but I was younger and had better reflexes then. I was hopeful for this game until I saw the reviews at release and I refused to risk it until it was basically half price. I will say, this was an awesome game! I don't see where the bad reviews are coming from and I regret not picking this up sooner. I started it after work one night and before I knew it, it was 6:30a.m.! I started at like 10p.m.. If you love stories about the mob, it's great! I can see how some would find this game boring but in the context of the story, doing stuff like moving some crates or walking/driving around and experiencing story through dialogue just seems real and natural. In The Old Country the story does nothing for me and atmosphere is non-existent. World feels dead and video gamey instead of real and lived in. Also I really dislike that the game often teleports you directly to the missions instead of having you prepare and drive there yourself, which removes half of the charm and groundedness of the previous games. This makes The Old Country feel like a standard linear 3rd person shooter with almost constant action.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Except the driving actually. It was so well made and felt full. I felt the heaviness and grip strenght of each car to the fullest. It was amazing.
Now let's talk about the rest... How this game broke my heart and genuienly stressed me out time to time lol. Story, characters, dialogues, cutscenes... They were just so, so well made. Oh and by the way this is my second time finishing the game. I first finished it when it first got released back then. Now i bought it on steam and had the chance to replay it. And it even affected me more than the first time lol.
You can feel the atmosphere so well. Being in 1900s Sicily when the ''Mafia'' just borns. Every time Don Torrisi showed up, i felt the pressure around. When i got to the last chapters, i stressed out and just didn't want to continue because of knowing what will happen in the ending... Oh how it devastated me. How the atmosphere and characters around you change. You feel that everything's just about to f*ck up. Such a great feeling it was to experience all this truly. The actual story itself however is pretty cliche as you can expect though. It's mostly understandable for me since we are literally playing in 1900s Italy. Everyone was very strict and conservative back then yet alone leave the ''Mafia'' lol. So you can expect those characters to act like them also. Even more than a ''standard'' conservative Italian family back then actually. It's very understandable the characters act like them and story being shaped into something you would expect.
Dialouges for me make it up to that actually. With the cutscenes and all, i just loved it. Not for everyone maybe although i don't know what anyone else could expect something different but it's alright. If you don't nitpick about everything and just consider the time and the surrounding environment, i'm pretty sure you are gonna enjoy. Combine that with decent gun play and great car driving mechanics, there you go. A fine mafia game i would say. Maybe not the best one considering also the repetitive missions and the design of them. Still a fine one i would say.
Oh and also the dlc was pretty nice. Nothing big but it was nice to see a background of a previous and important mafia game character. I loved the last mission of dlc slightly more than the rest of it but overall it was okay :)\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
